Healing Waters - Day 43
Luke 13:10-14 -Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, "Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity. And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight and glorified God. But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, there are six days on which men ought to work; therefore, come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day."
In our devotional scripture today, I see ritual, sickness, healing, and worship. The ruler of the synagogue is upset. He criticizes Jesus for healing on the Sabbath and the Woman for seeking her healing. This church leader has lost focus on what is truly important. He has failed to comprehend that meeting people's needs is more important to God than preserving a ritual. This Woman has been sick for years, 18 years to be exact. Oppressed by a spirit of infirmity, I am sure, at some point, she was exposed to ridicule because of her appearance and possibly a very lonely existence. Our primary scripture says she was bent over and could not raise herself up. Which also tells me her mobility and vision were hindered? Try it; if you can stop what you're doing, try it right now, bend-over, and then try and look up, it's hard, isn't it.
Can you imagine the looks and stares? This Woman received as she went about her daily activities? I mentioned loneliness too because I know for a fact that when sickness enters your home, relationships change. Illness has the ability to sift out weak and surface friendships and relationships.
Have you ever had something so drastic happen that it changed everything around you? Your relationships, mobility, and vision for your life? In the past, I spent days wondering will things ever go back to normal. Does God have a plan? Is this my life now, is there any hope for me beyond what I currently see or feel? Yes, there is hope. God has a plan, and if you make up your mind to believe God's word and stand on his promises, Jesus will usher you into a place of peace and hope. Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
The Woman in our primary scripture is an example of how we should act during a crisis and after. She did not lose hope. She continued to come to the synagogue, despite her condition. She didn't get mad at God and walk away because he took a long time to meet her needs. She continued to go to the place of worship. And then, one day, her faithfulness pays off. Jesus sees her. She didn't do anything to draw attention to herself; as we see in other healing stories, she didn't shout his name out or come begging for his help. But He saw her, in her bent-over state, and He called her to come. He spoke a word to her then lays His hand on her. Saying, "Woman, thou are loosed from your infirmity." If I may paraphrase, woman thou art loosed from the sickness that has plagued your life, loosed from that which hindered your mobility, and limited your vision. Loose from what has caused you such grief! It is over! You are free! The primary scripture says, "He laid hands on her and, immediately she was made straight and glorified God." Her response was worship. She gave God the glory for her deliverance! Hallelujah!
My friends, I don't know what's currently plaguing your life, if anything, but God does. I don't know what has affected your relationships, mobility, and limited your vision of the future, but God does. My friends, I don't know what is weighing on your heart or opposing your faith in Jesus, but God does, and He sees you!
Job 34:21 says, "For His eyes are on the ways of man, and He sees all his steps."
2 Chronicles 16:9a says, "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him."
And Proverbs 15:3 says, "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good."
The Bible tells us that God sees it all! Today, my friends are assured that God knows what you are going through, and today is calling you, just like He called the bent-over Woman in our primary scripture. The Lord is calling you and me, calling us to come to Him. To come believing that He can and wants to heal us! To humble ourselves and be honest about our troubles, to repent and confess our sins. Jesus is calling you and me to come and be loosed! To be freed from the things that have controlled our life! He is calling you today to be thou loosed in Jesus Mighty name!
And when He sets you free, please don't forget to worship Him!
Psalm 107: 1- O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
Let's Pray
Precious God, I thank you today for life. I thank you for the graces and mercies that you have already shown us. Lord, we thank you for your word, Lord, because your word tells us that you see us and that you look to show yourself strong on behalf of those who are loyal to you. Lord, help us to be loyal to you. Please help us to be committed to you! Forgive us of our sins and give us hearts that are turned completely towards you, O Lord! Set us free right now, Lord, from all oppression and every sickness! Lord, your word tells us in Malachi 3:6 that you are the Lord, and you change not. So, we are coming to you right now, just like the Woman in our scripture today. A spirit of infirmity plagued her, restricting her body, mobility, and vision, but You O God spoke a word and set her free.
Lord, there are things in our lives that have controlled our path for many years, things that have hindered our progress, assaulted our faith and limited our vision. But today, we put our hope in you, and we look to you for deliverance. Loose us right in Jesus' name, loose us from everything that is not of you. Loose us and heal us, O God, in Jesus' name! Father, we trust you, and we praise you! We bless you, Lord, for deliverance, we give glory for your mercy, and we thank you for our healing right now, in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen!
