Healing Waters - Day 48

John 9:1-7 – As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" Neither this man nor his parents sinned, "said Jesus, "but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is the day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world." After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. "Go, he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" ( this word means "Sent"). So, the man went and washed and came home seeing.

For the last few days, we have discussed taking the limits off God and the vision this faith journey requires when faced with seemingly impossible circumstances. Today's devotional scripture speaks of a man who had a severe physical condition. He was born blind. When a child is born with an abnormality, we all too often look for someone to blame. The disciples of Jesus immediately concluded that this man's condition resulted from his or his parent's sin. However, today's devotional scripture tells us clearly, that sometimes no one is to blame! "This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him."

I'd like to say that again, it says, "this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him!"

I found great comfort in today's devotional passage because it tells me that sometimes the challenges and physical afflictions we face in life are not anyone's fault. Somethings have simply been permitted so that the works of God might be displayed in us. Our Father in heaven created this planet, its creatures, and every unique individual on it. He has revealed His immutable and majestic attributes through nature and His creation. But some of us still doubt and struggle to believe what we cannot see. Today's devotional scripture is an example of how God will and can use our sufferings to reveal His presence, grace, and redemptive love.  God's glory is revealed in his children when we endure and prevail in unexplainable adversity.

The man was blind from birth. It was not his fault or his parents. Jesus saw him, spit on the ground,  made mud, put the mud on the man's eyes, and then told the man to go wash his eyes in the Pool of Siloam.  The man did not conference with Jesus about his condition, whose fault it was, or where to wash his eyes. He obeyed Jesus.  The scripture says, "So, the man went and washed and came home seeing." The man obeyed and received His healing.

My friends, today, let's retire the internal and external debates. Let's stop the fault-finding. Instead, let's obey; so that the works of God may be revealed in us. Let's go and wash our eyes in the Pool of God's Holy Word, for only then will we be able to see with eyes of faith beyond our adversity and affliction.

I have one scripture that I would like to read in the Contemporary English Version, Paul says, in  Ephesian 1:16-18, "So I never stop being grateful for you, as I mention you in my prayers. I, as the glorious Father and God of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you his Spirit. The Spirit will make you wise and let you understand what it means to know God. My prayer is that light will flood your hearts and that you will understand the hope that was given to you when God chose you. Then you will discover the glorious blessings that will be yours together with all God's people."

In the Amplified Version of the Bible, it says, "that God would grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation, (which means gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight) into the true knowledge of Him.  And that the eyes of your heart (the very center and core of your being)  may be enlightened (flooded with light by the Holy Spirit).

Today, my friends, be healed and be blessed as you go and wash your eyes in the pool of God's Holy Word!

Let's pray

Lord, we thank you for your presence, grace, and redemptive love today. Lord, we thank the salvation through your Son, Jesus Christ, and we thank for His blood sacrifice and all the protection and healing it provides. Lord, help to remember that even in our suffering, you are at work, help us to give up concern about whose fault it is, and trust that you have a plan that involves our victory. Lord, give a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. Father, enlighten the eyes of our hearts that we may have hope and understand the riches of your glory in the saints and your great power towards us. Heal us, O Lord, as we spend time in your Holy Word and wash away our impurities. May our faith and trust be in you only, Lord. Lord, their times when no one is at fault for our trouble, especially in those instances, help us to hold to hope and believe you for the impossible. Help us, O Lord, to endure until then end, so that your glory by maybe revealed in us. Lord, let your glory be revealed. Lord be magnified, in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen!
