Healing Waters - Day 50

Acts 3:1-13 -Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the temple gate, which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple,  who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us." So, he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So, he leaping up, stood and walked, and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.  Now, as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch, which is called Solomon's, greatly amazed. So,  when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: "Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?  The God of Abraham, Isaac, and  Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate when he was determined to let  Him go.

In this devotional scripture, I see a man who has never walked, a man who has had to rely on the compassion and generosity of others his whole life. He is approached by two disciples, Peter and John, and this brief interaction sets in motion a new life for him and extends the message of Jesus Christ.

The scripture tells us that he is carried by some unnamed party each day to the gate called Beautiful, and each day he sits begging for alms. It's the ideal spot, the gate called Beautiful is right outside of the temple, and many people come each day to offer prayers and sacrifices. Today, he is approached by Peter and John, disciples of Jesus. They have no money, but they understand the power and authority they have been given in Christ Jesus, and they offer him healing.

Peter says, "look at us," the man gives them his attention, and then  Peter says, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." Peter then takes him by the right hand and lifts him up, "and immediately his feet and ankles bones received strength."

The man, in today's devotional, had settled into a routine of begging alms at the gate called Beautiful and depending on others daily, but God had something better for him. Friends, God doesn't want us to settle. He wants and waits for us to come to Him! He wants us to trust in His loving care and His ability to provide.

Have you settled into a routine of survival due to some long-term illness or crisis?

When you are in trouble, do you go to God first, or has it become easier to rely on others?

This Christian journey calls for us to look at our life in light of God's Word and trust Him to meet our needs. We must begin to believe the promises of God above what we see and feel. Your spiritual gifts are needed. God wants to use each one of us in some way as healing agents like He did Peter and John at the gate called Beautiful.  Luke 10:19, Jesus says, "Listen carefully: I have given you authority {that you now possess} to tread on serpents and scorpions (evil and demonic spirits), and {the ability to exercise authority} over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will in any way harm you." I want to read that again; Luke 10:19 says, "Listen carefully: I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will in any way harm you." My friends, with power and authority, comes responsibility, don't allow the enemy anymore place in your life or circle. Earnest prayer and honesty will be needed! Honesty with God, yourself, and others, don't hide your limitations; Peter and John told them, share them, along with your victory stories, along with the things God has done for you! Don't forget to tell others that God loves them, that He has the best plan,  and that nothing is too hard for Him! James 5:16 says, "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."

Let's Pray,

Lord, you know where we have settled in life and in our faith and why!  Today we look to you, and we believe that nothing is too hard for you! Strengthen us, Father, and cause us to rise up and walk again! Heal every wounded place that exists in our hearts, set us free from deception and every yoke of bondage. Forgive us, Lord, for dishonoring you! Have mercy and guide us by your Holy Spirit! Show us how to use the tools the authority you have given us to uproot evil and defeat the enemy (Satan). Lord be magnified in our midst! We want your will to be accomplished in and through us. Complete what you have started, Lord, and be glorified in our lives, in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen!
