Healing Waters - Day 53

Acts 10:36-39 - The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.  And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

Life can hit you hard! Sometimes pain and disappointment we experience can be so severe that we forget at that moment that God is on our side. Satan, our enemy, uses our circumstances and the trouble in our life to cloud out the truth. The truth is that God,  the creator of heaven and earth, knows and cares about what is going on in our lives, and He has promised never to leave us or forsake us. Today's devotional text is a mere reminder of God's heart towards us. The Apostles want you and I to know that God not only cares about us, but God moves to bring healing, salvation, and restoration into the lives of believers. Our healing, salvation, and restoration are sourced in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ.  Jesus was the Word made flesh.  Our devotional text says that God sent His Word unto the children of Israel.

God sent Jesus to give us the truth, to heal and save us. John 1:14 says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." (NIV)  Our devotional text says Jesus is the Lord of all and that He came preaching peace. Peace is a condition of freedom from disturbance, whether outwardly, as of a nation from war or enemies, or inwardly, within the soul. (Orr, 2021)

The truth is we can share in that peace when we realize that God is in control, not our boss, not our bank accounts, not the doctor, not our family members, not our bodies or feelings. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan river and anointed by God with Holy Spirit and power. After His baptism, Jesus was set apart, consecrated, and empowered to share the message of God's love to others.

Jesus began preaching this message of peace in Galilee and did not stop until His message of peace had been shared in all Judea.  Our devotional text says He went about doing good and healing  ALL that were oppressed of the devil.  Sin, sickness, depression, shame, bondage, addictions, confusion, and deception once ruled people.  The good news, the message of peace is that Jesus came to set us free! Jesus came to give us peace!  God sent Him, God anointed Him, and God was with Him, and the scripture says He did good and healed all that were oppressed of the devil.  The Apostles, speaking in our devotional text, want you and I to know without a shadow of a doubt that this is not a fairy tale or made-up fable. They were with him in His travels, and they were eyewitnesses to the preaching, teaching, and miracles of Jesus Christ.  They were eyewitnesses to His message of peace. They also want us to know that they were there when He was falsely accused,  killed, and crucified on the cross (tree).

In sharing this text with us in Acts 10:36-39, the Apostles were fulfilling their commission. After the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, they went into the mountains of Galilee. Jesus met them there and commissioned them to share the message of His life. Jesus is God's love poured out to the world, and the Bible is God's love letter to us.  Matthew 28: 18 -20 says, "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

My friends, let's not neglect our commission. Only God knows where you are and what you truly need today. Maybe you're overwhelmed with anxiety, sin, sickness, busyness, or financial trouble. Friends, I want you to know that God's heart towards you has not changed.  He loves you, and He wants peace for you.  He sent Jesus to bring healing and salvation into your world. So, if you're in trouble or pain today, don't shrink back or run away. Run to Jesus in prayer, cast all your burdens upon Him.  He is alive, He cares for you, and He will meet you in your most challenging hour.  Psalm 34:18 says, The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. The Lord is near, and He wants to bring clarity and relief where confusion and pain exist, so run to Him. Run to  Jesus, the one sent by God to bring you peace.

Let's Pray,

Lord, today we thank you for peace, and we thank you for Jesus! We thank you for sending Him to pay the penalty of our sins, Father, for giving us another chance to say yes! Thank you, Lord, for providing a way for us to have a relationship with you. Thank you, Lord, for the love gift found in Jesus. Thank you for the peace and salvation that He has made available to me as a believer.  Today, Lord, we will embrace and rest in that peace. We will rest in the fact that we know that you love us and that you are working all things out for our good. Our times, Lord, are in your hands. We repent, Lord, right now for not trusting you. For depending on other things and other people, more.

Forgive us, Lord! Help our unbelief!  Help us to grow in our faith and trust in you! Guide us by your Holy Spirit and help us to trust you with our lives.  You are good Father, you are our provider, you are our healer, you are our restorer,  you are our peace,  and we bless your Holy Name! Lord, we will wait for your direction. We will wait on the refilling and empowering of your Holy Spirit to do and go where you have called us for your glory. Have mercy on us, O God, and may your purpose prevail in our lives,  in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen!
