Healing Waters - Day 54
Acts 19:11-12 – And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
Paul often characterizes himself as a prisoner or servant of Jesus Christ. He authored approximately 13 or 14 books of the New Testament. He was not a part of the original 12 apostles but after a drastic conversion experience on his way to persecute Christians. He was stripped of his terrorist role and commissioned as an Apostle to carry the gospel of Jesus Christ and make disciples. Paul has spent two years proclaiming and defending the gospel of Jesus. The word has reached all of Asia, both Jews and Greeks. Today's devotional text indicates that on his missionary journey, just like Jesus Christ, extraordinary miracles took place, and God was with him!
Paul performed remarkable, supernatural, outstanding, unusual, and wonderful manifestations of God's power; miracles. Pieces of his clothing, handkerchiefs, or aprons were given to the sick and demon-possessed, and people received healing and deliverance. In our previous devotional, the scripture talks about how God was with Jesus Christ and how he went about doing good and healing all who were sick. Today's Holy text ends with the same saying, "God was with him!"
I Corinthians 12: 1-11 tells us that God gives spiritual gifts as He wills and that the gifts are given for the profit of all. God does not impart gifts for us to become rich and famous. The gifts are given to promote His kingdom. People are dying, hurting, and deceived. When believers yield themselves, God can then use them as instruments of healing and deliverance. The individual is helped, Satan's works are destroyed and dismantled, and God's Kingdom is exalted and advanced.
The similarity that I would like to draw your attention to is that God was with them. They were able to function effectively in their assignments because God was with them. Submission to God, belief in His Son and His Word are prerequisites to God being with you and I. God is not asking any of doing anything on our own; we need His direction and the power of His Holy Spirit to live the life He's intended for us. I want to share a scripture with you that talks about the necessity of abiding in Him and our need for God to be with us!
John 15:1-10- I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away, and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in Me. "I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me, you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. "As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.
Today, my friends, let's be faithful disciples, let's submit to God, let's keep His commandments, and allow His word and His love to abide in us. Let's be people that abide in Him, then and only then will we too bear much fruit, because God is with us!
Let's Pray,
Lord, your word tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:31 to desire the best gifts. Your word tells us that you, Father give gifts as you will. Today, Lord, it is not about gifts. Give us whatever you desire. Today, Lord, we ask you to help us to abide in you, to abide in your love, and to understand that without you, we can do nothing. You created us for your purpose, and you love us. Help us, love, as you love, help us submit to your will like Paul and Jesus so that you may be glorified in the earth. Make us true disciples, Lord. Be with us, and enable us to bear much fruit in Jesus' Name, Amen!
