Focus: Finding positivity & coping methods; How do we keep our own precious energy both contained AND contributing? This week's episode is about giving and receiving instead of giving ourselves away. It is also about learning to embrace our gifts and allowing those gifts to create momentum in our lives instead of pushing or forcing. With therapeutic music, you can just lie back and then the music work with your brain to feel better in fewer than 15 minutes.

Welcome to Guided Harmonies, the podcast where I put words to my therapeutic music. My name is Margaret Dahlberg, and these episodes are designed to provide short moments of reconnect. I don't know about you, but I really don't always have an hour to meditate, nor do I always have the patience. I discovered that my music can create similar effects of meditation in a short time. All you need to do is listen with a gentle curiosity. If you doze off, it's okay because the music and your brain will work together to make you feel better. Today's episode explores our precious energy and how we know when we are using it in a way that fills our cup and when we are using it in a way that is draining us. It is about learning how to allow our gifts to work for us instead of using our gifts to push or force things. So the song I picked was written for a podcast guest from my sister podcast, Miss Tweety's Parents. It was written for a woman who had tremendous drive and energy until she got knocked down with postpartum depression. She talks about learning to overcome and how life-changing it became for her. Now she is an advocate for raising awareness as well as funds for mental health improvements. You'll hear her song starts with a joyful and excited energetic theme that goes through its own journey throughout the song, coming and going within the piece. The final presentation of that joyful energy returns more calmly and yet more authentically. Let's get started. Sit back or lie down if you are able and close your eyes. Let these harmonies guide you to a better place. Allow your breaths to move as your body chooses. This meditation is between the music and your brain. Your body can learn and respond to the vibrations as they come. You do not have to put in any effort. Just lie back and let it come to you. As you breathe, notice the lightness and joy in the music. Imagine you can very gently send this lightness toward your belly when you inhale. Do you notice any areas that just feel good? Perhaps they are relaxed and heavy, maybe tingling with comfort. It could be your chest, your pelvis, anywhere really. When you find that spot, check in with your face. And as you inhale, see if you can match your sense of well-being with a gentle smile. Do not force it, simply feel that positive energy that you found in your body, and use your smile to represent that feeling. While you smile, continue to breathe however your body chooses to. This smile will release a great deal of tension. When we focus on what feels good instead of where the stress is in our lives, we can find more ease. Return to that part of your body that just feels good. And with your smile, continue to breathe and focus. Imagine that each breath expands this good feeling. Just inhale in the positive and exhale that sense of relief that comes with it. Gently breathing in and out with ease. It is a part of the human journey. There will always be moments that cast a shadow. This is where it is important to focus on what feels good in your life. And if other emotions come up, just allow them to flow and release. While you breathe, think of one small thing that you enjoy doing that may help you feel good. A stroll, a talk with a friend, stroking a pet, the smell of a fresh flower, your favorite workout, a good book, a nice cup of tea, a song, cooking or baking, creating art or a craft. Imagine this activity that helps you feel good and continue to breathe with little effort. At the same time, focus on that part of your body that feels so good and continue to allow it to expand. This joyful music has found its own momentum without effort, just as you can when you focus on the positive. Do not rush to open your eyes if you plan to. If your breaths have deepened, try to energize them a bit before you let in the light. When you are ready, allow your eyes to crack open. Be sure to move slowly at first. Thank you for joining me today. Do you want me to compose you your own guided harmony? It really doesn't take much. Feel free to reach out. Have a wonderful day, and know you have invested in your own wellness. And this will reach all of those around you.
