Masters Preview with The Guest
CBS Sports proudly presents the Masters. It's always so good to hear Pat Summerall's voice at Augusta.
SPEAKER_02It's Sunday at the Masters with the Ah yes, welcome to the show. And here we are once again as you hear a different beginning of this show. Because that means it's only what happens one time of year. And that is, of course, is the Masters. And you hear the music playing in the background to signify that. And of course, to my side, in studio. Well, we're in a remote studio. We're over at the guest uh house, and we're here uh doing a live show together. I welcome in his first appearance uh since the Super Bowl show, the guest. Guest, how are you?
SPEAKER_00I'm doing great. It's an honor to be live with you, host well, don't get too used to it, guest.
SPEAKER_02What is that supposed to mean? Well, I think the show sounds better in the home studio than it does here in this uh Oh, I thought you had plans for me or something. So, guest, how you been uh since the Super Bowl? You've been laying low, you get the baseball season has started.
SPEAKER_00Watching the baseball, watching the Yankees. Yeah, it's been great.
SPEAKER_02So, guests, did you uh did you watch any of the basketball? Final four? Yes, sir. That was pretty two crappy games, wasn't it? The final four.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the last two games weren't uh weren't the greatest.
SPEAKER_02So before we get into the whole uh Masters talk and uh what's going on with Augusta this year, we got the plays, of course, we're gonna we got the menu, we got uh Ted Scott, Scotty Scheffler's catty tips of winning the show. We have a master's quiz, we have a master's facts, and then we'll each get the guest pick for the masters. I don't know his pick yet. I just wrote down that we're gonna do his pick, and when the guest doesn't know the host pick, and then we'll wrap it up with a Bobby Jones uh story. So, guests, this is let me get your thoughts because of course the host has talked about this on the last few shows, the whole Tiger Woods, what's happened to him, and uh, you know, his latest accident, now he's stepping away from golf. Guess your your thoughts on the whole Tiger Woods situation. We haven't gotten your the guest opinion yet on this.
SPEAKER_00Well, when I when I saw the picture of his of the overturned SUV, I just uh like most people, I said, geez, not again. It looks like the same accident that happened to him the last time. So I tuned in. I don't normally watch the indoor golf, but I tuned in last week because they said Tiger was gonna play. And I wanted to see if he was gonna play. And yeah, he was there, and they interviewed him before the start, and he was just sweating. And I just couldn't believe the way he looked, he just didn't look right to me.
SPEAKER_02So you were you were saying right there to yourself something was going on with with Tiger Woods, and then shortly thereafter, his only appearance, by the way, in the TGL Golf League, he gets in an accident.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and they they ended up, his team ended up losing the championship. And uh, I mean he he made a couple shots, but he didn't do anything that was, you know, anything spectacular.
SPEAKER_02And then can you believe the idiots that tuned in to watch him play this a couple shots, and the same idiots thought that this guy was gonna show up at Augusta this week and play and play good. That's what kills me about these people.
SPEAKER_00Well, we don't know for sure if he was gonna be at Augusta, because he never really said. But they they found out later that he was going to be on the senior or the what they call the champions tour now. He was gonna play in the champions open, I think.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he committed to that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02He committed to playing in that. And you know how all these guys were are when they everybody always asks him when they get in their 40s and they ask them, Are you gonna play on the champions tour or slash senior tour? These guys all deny that they don't want to play on it. They always say they don't want to play on it, but then they show up. And then they show up and play because it's easy money to them if you're still young and still playing good. And not that Tiger needs the money, but I think he was looking at that as some sort of, hey, a way to get back into play. A way to get back into playing and you know, maybe getting you know my some of my uh reputation back as a player. But none of that's happening now because of course he's taking a step away from golf.
SPEAKER_00Who knows what's going to happen?
SPEAKER_02By the way, taking a step away from golf, guest. He hasn't played since 2024. I thought he already took a step away. Like I don't understand what the what the big deal about him is taking a step away from golf. He's already taken a step away. What's the big deal?
SPEAKER_00I think they said the last time he played was 2022.
SPEAKER_02No, 2024. He played, he played the four rounds at the Masters and he didn't play again after that.
SPEAKER_00Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_02We've hardly seen the guy play. So what what's the shock that he's not around?
SPEAKER_00And you know, all these people that are the people want to see him play senior tour. See him play what?
SPEAKER_02Play what? What are you watching him play? You're better off watching them on the senior tour. Wait, what's the excitement of watching some guy go out and shoot 80 and 80 and then miss the cut? I I can I can do that.
SPEAKER_00I mean, yes, you have.
SPEAKER_02I mean, what's the what's the big deal? I don't I just don't get it. I just uh you know that's not what this show is about. I just want to get your uh uh opinion on uh what was happening with uh Tiger Woods guest. But this is the Masters show, and of course, we got all the Masters Usual stuff to go over. And first of all, we do this every year on the show. We dissect the Masters Club dinner, and this is this is a sticking point here to the guest uh because the chairman, Fred Ridley, who has nothing to do with being part of the past champions dinner, always worms his way into getting a free meal, right, guest?
SPEAKER_00You know, it's not I can understand maybe why they have to have Fred Ridley there for the dinner, okay? But then after the dinner or or or before the dinner, they take a picture of the past champions. And Fred Ridley is right there in the middle. Now he's not a past champion. What is he doing in the picture? He's the host of the dinner. He's the host, but he's not a past champion. He shouldn't be in the picture. Black black him out.
SPEAKER_02Now what about what about the whole thing with the Masters past champion dinner? The defending champion, which is your man Rory McElroy, he has to pay for the dinner.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I I was trying to find out what the dinner would cost. And all I could find out was they said it's it's up to five figures, depending on what the menu is and what what wine is served. It could go from ten to twenty thousand dollars for that one dinner.
SPEAKER_02Now I could see if Fred Ridley was paying for the dinner, him sitting in on the picture and getting to sit on a dinner, but he doesn't do any of that.
SPEAKER_00I just can't see why he's in the picture. That that really bugs me.
SPEAKER_02So just to go over a few of the uh items on the uh on the on the menu here. Now, of course, we all know the host is tradition here. He's gonna say three-quarters of these things wrong, but as an appetizer, uh, they got a peach ricotta flatbread with balsamic, hot honey, and basil. Peach and ricotta? And then uh on the other side of this, they got the rock shrimp tempura with creamy spicy sauce, bacon wrapped dates. I guess they better not have the monkey from Indiana Jones taking a date there. Uh, we all know what happened to him when he swallowed the date in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Uh, also as an appetizer, they have the grilled elk slider with caramelized onion jam and roasted garlic aioli. Now, you're telling me. Where did they get the elk? Yeah, you're telling me they had to go kill a nice elk up in the Montana just so Rory could have that as an appetizer?
SPEAKER_00Fred Ridley went up there and shot him.
SPEAKER_02Guess you think Jack is taking an elk slider out of his plate come uh Tuesday evening when they have the uh I think everybody's gonna pass on the elk sliders. And the first course is also a first course. That was that was just the appetizers guest. They also have a first course. Yellow fin tuna, and I don't know how to say this, carpi piacho with toasted baguette shives. I don't know who's needed an interpreter. Did you also know this? They added this. They just added this recently, guests, on the first course menu. In honor of Tiger Woods, fried chicken sandwich served on its side.
SPEAKER_00Served on its side because of the SUV on its side.
SPEAKER_02That's a good one. You get it, guess? I got it. Yeah, and I'm the bad guy now, right? For saying that. The host is the bad guy. Oh, the big course, the wagyu filet mignon or seared salmon. Now, guest, you know what the filet mignon. You know that you can't get that well done like you like, because that's an insult to the chef. You know that, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So there goes your uh wagyu filet mignon, guess. You won't be able to have that.
SPEAKER_00I I'd slip uh I'd slip Fred Ridley a 20 and tell him to get it well done for me.
SPEAKER_02I don't think a 20 is gonna work with Fred Ridley guess. Uh and I've for dessert, they got the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and warm toffee sauce. That must be some kind of uh Irish uh no baileys poured over that with Rory?
SPEAKER_00I I I I would love to see those guys eating that stuff. That would be a show in itself.
SPEAKER_02And of course, there's a list of uh champagne on here, there's a list of wine, uh uh some kind of uh wine from 1989. Who knows how much that costs?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's why the price you know can go straight up.
SPEAKER_02You know, they got a 2015 bottle of champagne. Who's drinking? Champagne, and then you gotta wash it down with some wine, and then you gotta wash down the elk. That elk gets a little sticky between the teeth. Or is Rory passing out personal tease to pick your teeth out of the elk slider in your in your meal after? That's an all-in-honour of uh Rory. That's the dinner there. Now, guest, we did find out after, right? Looking into the details of the dinner and your man, Fred Ridley, being in on the uh the main dinner. Did you know there's an amateur dinner guest that Fred Ridley's involved in?
SPEAKER_00Yes, I tried to find out some information on the amateur dinner, and uh I I couldn't I I wanted to find out first of all who paid for it. I can't imagine there they'd they'd charge the amateurs for their dinner, but I couldn't find out any information on who pays for it. Of course, Fred Ridley is at the amateur dinner, and it said that other members of Augusta are at the amateur dinner. It didn't say who, but it said there's other members involved.
SPEAKER_02Now, isn't now isn't Jack a member of Augusta? Could he possibly be at the amateur dinner?
SPEAKER_00He could if they invited him, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So your man, Fred Ridley, getting in on two free dinners.
SPEAKER_00The amateur dinner is on Monday. So he gets a dinner on Monday, and then the regular dinner is on Tuesday, he gets another dinner tonight the next night.
SPEAKER_02Now, what's your to Fred Ridley before we get into the other chairman list here? Your biggest pet peeve about Fred Ridley, besides being in the dinner, is what guest when they do the opening ceremony every year?
SPEAKER_00Every year when they do the opening ceremony, you got you got uh Jerry Player, Jack Nicholas, Tom Watson there, and Fred Ridley, before he introduces him, he's got to look at his cue cards. Jack Nicholas is right on the T, and Fred Ridley says, next up on the T and he looks at his cue card. But it's Jack Nicholas. He's standing right in front. But every year Fred needs the cue cards.
SPEAKER_02That's what I don't get that either. Now, uh I just uh when I re- just played the Pat Summerall voice there, uh that was from the 2011 final round of the Masters, where I played that, and of course we heard a little snippet there of Jim Nats. I played that at the very beginning of the show. I forget who the who was the chairman before you got your list there. Who was the chairman before uh Fred Gridley? Billy Payne. Billy Payne. They go to a clip, I didn't play it. They go to the clip of Billy Payne doing the opening ceremony guest, and he doesn't have a cue card.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's the way it should be.
SPEAKER_02But Fred really has a has a cue card.
SPEAKER_00Needs his cue cards. You want you why he'll he'll have his cue cards you know next uh Thursday or whenever. Yeah, next Thursday.
SPEAKER_02So I guess at being uh a chairman of all these years at Augusta National. Why? Uh Southern Boys down in Augusta. We don't like to have many chairmans. So I guess you got a list there, guest, of the chairmans of how many years they were chairman and what the turnaround has been. Well, so what's the history there? How many chairmans they've had at Augusta?
SPEAKER_00We've had seven chairmen in their history. And Clifford Roberts, I guess was a the co-founder of Augusta with uh Bobby Jones. And Clifford Roberts was the chairman from 1931 to 1976, 45 years chairman.
SPEAKER_02That's that's a lot of free meals.
SPEAKER_00That's a lot well they didn't start the dinner that early, so he wouldn't have been getting the free dinner. But they've had Clifford Roberts, a guy called William Lane, Horde Harden, Jack Stevens, William Johnson, Billy Payne, and Fred Ridley. Those are the those are the only chairmen of Augusta.
SPEAKER_02Wow, that's but I like though, after the uh what's that guy's name? Clifford Roberts there. How quickly though they go through the chairman's though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the one the guy after Clifford Roberts, William Lane, he only asked lasted three years.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he must have not liked it, he probably wasn't invited to the dinner, so he probably said, forget it, I'm not being the chairman anymore.
SPEAKER_00Billy Payne was there for 11 years. And Fred Ridley's been there since 2017.
SPEAKER_02So before I I know I I I've thought of something else since you were going over the chairman list, and um there's been lots of complaints. Now, you know, the women's amateurs being played there this past weekend was paid at Augusta. And a lot of people had tickets to this, the same people that have tickets for the big masters tournament that's going on this weekend. And the big should do is to get into the clubhouse and be able to purchase items in the golf store, and the biggest complaint is how long the line is and how long people take to buy things in this store because it's so valuable. Because a lot of the people that go in there get by a bunch of stuff and they sell it on eBay. So I got a picture, guess. Now I know you listeners can't see this picture here. This guy got in big trouble. I I don't know his name, but he took a picture of all the items uh that he bought in the Masters Clubhouse and he posted it on Twitter, and he's selling all this stuff. The retail value of everything in this picture is over$2,500, and this guy expects to make four times that amount on eBay. Now I got this picture, I can't wait to see the guest reaction.
SPEAKER_00Wow, that's a lot of stuff. This is this is this is his purchase this year.
SPEAKER_02This past weekend, this guy bought all this stuff in the master's clubhouse as he weighed in line. Uh, in this picture, there's shirts, there's hats, there's putters, there's the gnomes. That's a big selling retail on the eBay, the master's gnome for your garden. There's the chairs, there's backpacks, there's all kinds, there's the flags that go on the flag stick. This guy bought everything possible in the in the master store.
SPEAKER_00So apparently there's no limit to how many items you can get.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's what that's the what the thing is. People are saying there should be a 30-minute limit in the store and a cat and a and a cap of a thousand dollars you can buy in the store to limit the the weight of the line to go faster and move along. Because people take way too long to go. Some people wait almost half a day to get in the store to get in there to finally buy something.
SPEAKER_00We'll get Fred Ridley right on that.
SPEAKER_02All right, now, guests, uh, as we get into the masters here, uh Ted Scott, uh, Scotty Scheffler's caddy, he gave his top keys to winning at Augusta. And you have those keys right in front of you there, guest.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, now Ted Scott is the caddy for Scotty Scheffler, but he was also the caddy for Bubba Watson. And Bubba Watson won in 2012 and 2014 with Ted Scott. So Ted Scott has been the caddy on four winning masters. So here's his three keys to winning at Augusta. Number one is keep it below the hole. It's funny you say that.
SPEAKER_02Okay, okay, go ahead.
SPEAKER_00Number two is get the wind right on number 12. And not the third one.
SPEAKER_02I don't understand the wind on number 12. It's a 140-yard shot. I could throw it from the T box onto the green.
SPEAKER_00Well, everybody's worried about the wind when they come to the T. You remember how Tiger used to come to the T at 12 and he's tossing grass up and the uh the third key is no three putts. Yep. Well, you could say that about any course.
SPEAKER_02Well, don't ask the guest or don't ask the host about his putting because I three putted 11 times uh a few weeks ago on the trip on one round. So no three putts. So, okay, guests. I'm no caddy and Augusta. I could come up with the same three reasons. Okay. No offense to uh Ted Scott here. I know he's been on the bag of uh a winning guy four times. No, no offense to Ted Scott. I could have came up with the same keys. I mean, come on. I'm just watching it on TV. Every year.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what's that doesn't qualify.
SPEAKER_02Well, I don't know what qualifies that guy either.
SPEAKER_00Well, he's won. He's won four masters. I don't know. I just don't I don't even know. He's one four master. You've been the one master as a spectator. That doesn't qualify you for anything.
SPEAKER_02It qualifies a lot more people that uh would know about Augusta. And by the way, when I went to Augusta to back up about buying something at the clubhouse there at the at the uh place, I don't remember the line being that long, and I don't remember people going crazy. I know I bought a cup, I bought a mouse pad, which I still use to this very day for my mouse at work. I still have it, I still use it. It's got the course laid out on it. I still have that mouse pad. You know, and that was you know 30 some years ago that I had that from. So I still have my items from the master store. I didn't go up and throw them up on eBay.
SPEAKER_00So you went you went to the master store and you bought a cup and a mouse pad. You're at the master's and you buy a cup and a mouse pad? Okay.
SPEAKER_02Oh boy. No, no items for the guest. I didn't get anything. Oh boy. All right. So, as usual, the guest has uh some featured items here on the master show. We have a master's quiz as he flips through his book here.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Some of these are multiple choice, so multiple guests, my favorite. Okay, you ready for the quiz? Yes, sir. Number one who is the only player to win the masters twice in a playoff. Here's the choices. Bubba Watson, Sevi Belasteros, or Nick Faldo?
SPEAKER_02Nick Faldo won his first two Masters in a playoff. Uh he beat uh Ray Floyd uh in one, and he beat uh the other guy, uh Scott Hoke. Scott Choke.
SPEAKER_00Very good, host. That's one for the host.
SPEAKER_02Scott Choke. People, if you want to see a guy miss a big time putt for the Masters, go Google on the YouTubes, go on the YouTube, and uh search Scott Hoke putting on the Masters on the 10th hole. You you would not believe the putting misses. All right, get the next question.
SPEAKER_00Number two. Who was runner up at the Masters the most times without ever winning? Greg Norman, Tom Kite, or Tom Weiskoff?
SPEAKER_02Boy, I know Norman lost a couple times. He was up there a lot. Who was the other two guys? Tom Kite or Tom Weiskoff? Tom Kite. He he he had a good run for like eight or nine years, but I don't think he was ever in the running at Augusta. I don't remember him. I don't know enough about Tom Weiskoff. I'll just go with Norman.
SPEAKER_00It was Weiskoff. Okay, number three.
SPEAKER_02I remember we had Tom Weiskoff golf on the Commodore 64. Remember we used to play that? Tom Weiskoff golf, and it had a computer picture of him when they wearing his stupid beret hat. Remember he wore the beret hat, didn't he? Tom Weiskoff? He wore the British racing cap hat. No, I don't think he did. Oh, I know I thought he did. Maybe he did. I I don't know for sure. Alright, question question number three.
SPEAKER_00Jack Nicholas played in 45 Masters. How many times did he make the cut? 45, 37, 31, or 23?
SPEAKER_02Well, it's not 23 and it's not 45. He didn't make the cut any every time. So it's gotta be either one of the two middle numbers there. And Jack was always played well, Augusta. I'm gonna go with B.
SPEAKER_00You're right, 37. Very good. Multiple guess. Number four. What year did Tiger win Tiger Woods win his first green jacket? 97. Wow. Ghost. You're on fire here. Here's the last question. Which of these is not a bridge at Augusta? Hogan? Jones Nelson? Sarizen. Not named for a bridge.
SPEAKER_02Hogan? Jones' bridge is twelve. No, that's Hogan's Bridge is twelve? Hogan's bridge is twelve. Nelson. Nelson.
SPEAKER_00It's Jones.
SPEAKER_02Really? Bobby Jones doesn't have a bridge? It's his course!
SPEAKER_00So you got you got uh three out of five. That's good.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's then wait a minute. How does Bobby Jones not have a bridge? I don't know, you'd have to ask them. Alright. So now we have the uh Master's Facts. Oh boy, let me do I change the music here to put on some sleeping music. Okay, everybody's favorite, Master's Facts with the guest.
SPEAKER_00Master's Facts, you may not know. Okay. Number one. The runner up gets a silver medal and their name engraved on the permanent trophy. Did you know that? No. On the trophy that the champion holds up, he also whatever the permanent, I guess the permanent trophy must be the one that's at Augusta. I don't know. Number two. No player has ever won the par three contest and the tournament in the same year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I believe that. And did you know that a lot of guys don't like to play in the par three contest? Because of that fact. Because of that fact.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Here's one you'll like, number three. On the course, domestic beers are served in white plastic cups. While imported beers are served in green plastic cups.
SPEAKER_02That means you don't talk to anybody with a white plastic cup because they don't have any good taste in beer.
SPEAKER_00That's why you see white paper cups all over the place.
SPEAKER_02You don't associate yourself with anybody with a white plastic cup. Only people are green.
SPEAKER_00Now we talked about this one already, number four. The winner has to pay for the champion's dinner. The estimated cost is between$10,000 and$20,000, depending on the menu. We talked about that. Number five. Over the years, the toughest hole has been the 10th, with a scoring average of 4.31.
SPEAKER_02Now, for people don't know, that's the hole. Dog leg left down the hill as you go down to the bottom part of the course to start the back nine. They put a big sand trap about 280 yards out that stretches for about 50, 60 yards. So a lot of guys lay up with like a three-wood or a five-wood off the T because they know they can reach the bunker. They have that T backed up. They keep on backing that T up over the years. Pretty soon it's gonna be out on the street, the way they back that T up. The way these guys hit the ball. But that is the tenth hole.
SPEAKER_00Very good. Okay, number six. Now here's something. We've been doing this show a long time. And here's something I I never knew. And maybe you knew. The caddies all wear white jumpsuits, they have a number on the front of the jumpsuit. And that's based on the order that the player arrives to register for the tournament. In other words, host, if you were the first player to register to arrive at the course, your caddy would get number one on his jumpsuit. And if they're the last player to register, I think they said there's 88 players this year. So if you're the last player to register, your caddy gets number 88. So Joel Damon's getting 89. He's not gonna be there.
SPEAKER_02Did you know that? No, I didn't know that. So are you looked down upon if you have one through 10 and 78 through 88?
SPEAKER_00I don't know what the players think when they see a guy that's got one on there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're the first loser to sign up. A little anxious, huh?
SPEAKER_00Well, what about number 88? What do they tell him?
SPEAKER_02Glad you could make it? That's a guy who backed in, that's what I would say. Backed into the tournament. Fred Ridley got the invitation stuck in the mail.
SPEAKER_00Okay, here's the last fact. Number seven. Augusta National is closed from the middle of May to the middle of October. That's all the nice weather, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02Well, it's really hot and humid down there. So they don't play when it's hot and humid. So it's closed. So they don't want to tear the course up. Yeah, I don't blame them. Wow, we don't let them people tear our course up in the middle of the summer with all them flies and mosquitoes around.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's it. That's a fact.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they don't want they don't want people tearing it up. Before we get into our picks here, guest, uh, now I my one pet peeve here the last few years. Now, we're not gonna go into the usual 56 minutes of uninterrupted commercials. The host isn't gonna complain about that. I'm gonna complain about a new thing. Over the years, the on the final round, when a past champion would go around the golf course, the crowd would stand up and cheer for him as he got to the team. Give him a standing ovation. And I was okay with that. Well, for some reason, this tradition of doing it on the final day, standing up for a past champion as he makes his way around the course. Because if you're a past champion and you once again survived to get to the fourth round and be able to make it through four more rounds of playing at Augusta because it's supposed to be one of the hardest courses to play. And remember the tagline: if you win at Augusta, you truly are a master. I don't know who came up with that dumb line. But anyway, it was a tradition of that the players, the past champions, if you coming around on the fourth round, of the people on the T-Box would stand up and cheer for you. Well, that has morphed into, turned into every round now. And it's just annoying when you see a guy like Bubba Watson, who's played there and is chess champion there, he gets a standing ovation for four rounds now on some of the holes with the where the patrons have to stand up and cheer for him as he comes around. I don't know who started doing it for the first three rounds and why that now has morphed into people doing all that when it was just their tradition to do it on the final day. So that's my new biggest pet peeve is as I watch the Masters now.
SPEAKER_00That's annoying.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's annoying. Yep. So that's my new pet peeve to pick apart about the Masters. So moving on to the picks for this year, the 2026 Masters. Uh, the guest here uh has got the odds written down for uh a certain amount of players here. So go ahead, guest.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I didn't go I didn't go through a big list of players, I just got the top seven or eight players here. Of course, Scotty Scheffler is first, he's a plus 480.
SPEAKER_02Now, Scotty Scheffler started off the year hot. He won the first event he was played in, has been playing good at all. I'd be very shocked uh if he comes away and is having a great four rounds here uh come this come this weekend. I don't think Scotty is gonna be in this tournament to win or not. I don't I don't see him doing well this weekend, specifically because he hasn't been playing well at all.
SPEAKER_00On the William Hill, he's uh winner is plus 500, top five is a minus 125, and a top 10 is a minus 220.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Then we have Rory McElroy, defending champion. Plus 1,000.
SPEAKER_02Now I don't like Rory either. Now I I already people already know who listen to this show, I already don't like Rory. But I'm just saying this as a betting thing. If I was gonna make it bet, I wouldn't bet Rory at all. A few weeks ago, he got out of the tournament because he hurt his back. He withdrew. He hasn't been playing great either. Uh he he he just seemed to be able to not be able to get it going yet so far this season. So that's another guy I wouldn't uh put. Plus, usually the defending champion uh they have a lot to deal with the week they come back uh from defending the championship. They gotta turn in the green jacket, guess. They can't wear that. They gotta prepare for the dinner. You know, they gotta pay for that, like we talked about. You know, Rory's probably chapped to dad. He's gonna pay for that lousy Fred Ridley to have a free meal. So he's not focused on winning. So I don't like Rory.
SPEAKER_00Okay, next we have Bryson DeChambeau plus 1200.
SPEAKER_02Now, DeShambeau has had uh, he's been now, there's two guys on the live tour that have been playing really good here the last few weeks. And I know people don't want to hear it because it's the live tour, but I see your list right here. Both Bryson DeChambeau and John Rahm have been playing great on the live tour. They have been battling each other week after week. They played in a playoff a few weeks ago together. Either Rory, I mean I'm sorry, either Bryson has won or John Rahm has won. Both these guys have been playing great. Now, we know DeChambeau on the final round, he doesn't do well in Augusta. He seems to choke in the last few years, so I don't like Bryson's uh chances because of those you know last round mistakes, but John Rahm is a past champion. I really like John Rahm this week.
SPEAKER_00Okay, they're both plus 1200. Then we go to Ludwig. Now I know this guy's name is Oberg. I like to call him Aberg. Ludwig Aberg, plus 1600.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this this kid seems to be around in every tournament, but he just seems that he can't finish. Uh we just saw him. What did he do? He's choked away a few weeks ago, didn't he? Guess hit it in the water twice. Yeah, he choked away a few weeks ago, this kid. So he'll be up there, but I don't see him winning.
SPEAKER_00And next we have Xander Sheffield. He's plus 1600.
SPEAKER_02Now he just uh oh no, it wasn't him, it was the Morikawa guy who won a few weeks ago. Right. They they look alike to me. Um anyway, uh, even though they're they nowhere don't look at each other. I I see Morikawa, I see Shaffley. It's just they're the same player to me. That's what I mean by that. Um, I don't see him doing anything either. Now, this Matthew Fitzpatrick, the guy who's like, now the guest likes Matthew Fitzpatrick, right? Because he's been playing good lately.
SPEAKER_00He's been playing really good the last three or four weeks. He's a plus 2200.
SPEAKER_02Now he's former U.S. Open Champion. He's played well in the Open Championship, he's he's fared fairly well here at Augusta.
SPEAKER_00But uh I don't know what happens to these guys when they're playing. He played like back-to-back tournaments really good. And now he's taken a couple weeks off. So I I don't know what happens to a guy that's really hot like that. He takes a couple weeks off. It seems like he never comes back and plays at that same level. So I I question him.
SPEAKER_02Okay, now you got uh a couple wild cards down there, I guess.
SPEAKER_00I just put down these two guys because they've been they've been playing good. They got this Maverick McNeely guy. He seems to be always Mike McNeely? Maverick, named after the Tom Cruise movie. He's a plus 10,000. And and this guy, Tony Finau, he seems to always be in there. He's a plus 10,000. So maybe that's a you know, put a little money on him.
SPEAKER_02I'm not putting my money on any of those two guys.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Uh you just heard who the host likes. I like John Rom to win this uh masters tournament. I'm I'm all in on the Rom winning. I think he's playing really good right now. I think he has a great chance. Guest, your pick.
SPEAKER_00Okay. If you asked me that a couple weeks ago, I would have said Matt Fitzpatrick. But I'm going with my man Ludwig Aberg.
SPEAKER_02All right, well, that's the guest's pick. He's going with Aberg, Old Berg, Fat Berg, whatever you want to call, Big Bird, whatever you want to call. The guest is going with Aperg. All right, those are the hosts of the guests. Uh two picks uh for this year's uh Masters. Now, uh to wrap up our show, our 2026 Master show, the guest has a Bobby Jones uh story here that goes along with Augusta.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I came across, doing all my research I do for the show, I came across this story about Bobby Jones. Now he's the co-founder of Augusta with Clifford Roberts. He was an amateur golfer in 1930. He won the British Open Championship and the British Amateur Championship. Then he won the US Open and the US Amateur Championship, all in the same year. Well, before those tournaments, he bet on himself at 50 to 1 odds to win all four. Who is he, Lincoln Hawk? And he with the money he won, he retired from competitive golf. Never played competitive golf again after winning those four tournaments. Isn't that something?
SPEAKER_02Because he bet on himself.
SPEAKER_00He bet on himself. Which I guess he could do because he was an amateur.
SPEAKER_02Well, why couldn't these guys could probably bet on themselves?
SPEAKER_00They couldn't, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02That's why I said the Lincoln Hawk reference. You didn't get that reference, guess? What was that movie called?
SPEAKER_00Over the top. Over the top.
unknownOh boy.
SPEAKER_00Lincoln Hawk. I don't know what the odds are on Lincoln Hawk.
SPEAKER_02Alright, folks, that's our uh master's show here for uh today. Uh, you know, I hope you guys enjoyed it.
