And we just got done watching the open championship. And, you know, while there was uh, you know, not a lot of drama with the golf, uh, you could say there was with uh Ryan Fox uh making the putt on 18 to win, it just didn't seem like it was that exciting. Uh just because the uh none of the top players were up there competing for uh the win. Uh Scotty Scheffler gave it a run today, uh, just couldn't get up there. Tommy Fleetwood uh was uh trying to give it a run. Uh he came up short, and of course, uh Bryson DeChambo uh choked today and fell way down uh the leaderboard, and he was non-competitive. Uh, Cameron Young had a great run in the morning to post a score. And as you can see from the result today, uh Ryan Fox uh making uh the putt on 18 to win. But there's a lot to talk about of other things that were going on during the open. And there's only one guy that could come on the show here and discuss that with me with the host. And that, of course, is the guest. The host, guest, well, it's uh uh an appearance on the show, your first uh since the uh Kentucky Derby show, guest. How's the uh how's the summer been going? Well, summer is officially over, guest, because you listened to this show uh because you know, after 4th of July, summer is over, if you if you remember the host's story when he was talking about that.

Well, guess we just watched uh the final golf major of the season. Uh that, of course, is the open championship held over there in England in Royal Burkdale. And uh Ryan Fox guest with the big putt on 18. What did you think of today? Did you I just made a comment before you came on, guest? Uh because there was like no big name player out there, I didn't find it besides Scotty Shefford trying to make a run, I didn't find it that exciting. What did what did you what did you think of the whole fourth round today, final round today with Ryan Fox guest?

I'm I I'm just the opposite, uh host. I I thought it was pretty exciting. Scotty was making a run there for a while, and Burns was up there. And then you had Young. I mean, there were a number of guys that were in contention, so I thought it was pretty exciting.

You think Montgomery Burns is a good golfer that you're worth turning the TV on to watch, guests?

Now let's look, we get we got uh, you know, the the Ryan Fox guy had a chance on 17. Uh he hits this iron play, he goes with an iron, and he ends up in the bunker, he ends up parring the hole. And it seemed like his chances were really low because they made the 18th hole was the second hardest hole of the whole tournament. Guess, what are your thoughts of making 18 a hard hole? Wouldn't you want to make it a little easier hole to have guys in a more birdie chance to be in contention for the for a major? Wouldn't you like 18 to be a little more easier for these guys? Or are you are you okay with the making 18 a hard hole?

I'm okay with 18 being a hard hole because you've got 17, which is kind of an easy hole. It's a birdie hole. So you can't have you can't have 17, which is an easy hole, and then have another easy hole right after that. So I think the way they've got it set up is is fine.

Um what do what did you think of the course conditions, guest?

Well, that's the that's the first thing uh you gotta look at. That's that's the first you know, the this is supposed to be uh a major championship. And the course looked terrible. The fairways were all burned out, the rough is all burned out. Before the game today, they had uh Bones McCoy, you know, the caddy. He was out there bouncing a basketball on the fairway. Did you see that?

No, I did not I did not see that. I didn't know he was doing that. It was he trying to show, was he trying to show how hard the surface is? Is that why he was doing that?

He was bouncing a ball on the fairway. It was like he was bouncing it on concrete. The ball was coming up so fast. And they said the rough the ball, you know, the rough is all burned out, so there's no disadvantage to hitting it in the rough.

One comment was the fairways are running faster than the greens. What kind of a course is that?

What what did you think, uh uh guest, when uh Scotty Scheffler there got hit that shot, his second shot on 17. He hit it way to the left of the grandstand, and then he ended up having to hit a provisional job uh ball, and they ended up finding his first ball he hit, and he was able to take relief and still get Bertie.

I don't understand that whole thing on 17 with Scotty. I thought once you hit a provisional ball, once you decide that you have to hit a provisional and you hit it, that's the ball in play. I think you can't go back, you can't go back and play the original ball. That was my understanding.

I I don't I'm I okay, I'm not a rule, I'm not an expert of the golf rules uh guest, but I I always thought that hitting a provisional ball is it is what it is. You're hitting a provisional ball in case you can't find your original ball you hit, and the original uh the provisional ball would then be, you know, he was hitting two, he would then be hitting four up at the up where the provisional ball landed, not hitting three.

Whereas it's but they said they said his ball was lost. So don't you get so much time to find the ball? I thought you got I think he was on the I think he was on the next hole when they said, hey, we found Scotty's ball.

So how how does that work with the I don't understand how that's what that's what I don't understand the whole thing.

I just don't I know when you watch other tournaments, if you hit a ball like next to the grandstand, you got relief from that with no penalty. But they couldn't find his ball originally. So I I like I say, I just don't understand. Somebody's gonna have to explain that to me, that whole that whole scene on the 17.

Well, he ended up getting a birdie, uh, and then he had to, of course, uh birdie uh 18 to have any kind of chance, and of course, he didn't he didn't get he didn't do that. So uh, you know, Scotty Scheffler uh run at defending the uh open championship fell for uh fell didn't fall for him. And uh you know Ryan Fox out of nowhere, yes, uh, you know, played great down the stretch there. I didn't like his uh decision to hit an iron on 17. Uh I texted you that, but uh he came through with a big drive on 18 and a great second shot, and he made the birdie.

Yes, how about how fast he plays and how how he I was just gonna I was just gonna comment on that. He was in the bunker there, and he just went over and just hit the ball like like like nothing. He didn't take any time at all. You know, if that was some other player, he'd be walking around the bunker, he'd be walking up the fairway, he'd check the wind, you know. He just gets up and he just gets up and hits the ball. Just like he made the putt on 18.

Man, that's the kind of guy, you know, that's the kind of guy I want to play with, a guy who plays fast. That's what I like. Playing fast. Now, uh that that wasn't the uh, you know, that wasn't all the talk of the uh open this weekend. Uh the uh Bryson DeChambeau controversy guest and Rory commenting on that. Now let's let's go back to uh Friday's round guest. What um DeShambeau on the fifth hole hits a ball into the uh what do you call that grass guest?

The fescue grasscue grass. He hits the he hits it into the fescue grass. He goes over to uh look at his ball and see where it lies and everything, and allegedly he was stepping on the grass to give himself a better second shot.

Yes, grass behind the ball. Now, I don't know if that's what he was doing. If you if you to watch that one time, now of course these guys watch replays and replays and replays of it. To initially watch that, I had no idea that that's what he was doing, that's what he was trying to do. And I I don't I don't know. So he hits the ball, he ends up getting um he ends up getting a bogey on it, and uh, because he he uh missed the uh the par putt, ends up finishing the round. He thinks he's one shot off the lead. Uh he gets later, he gets at the end of the round, he gets called out to the course. They go out to the fifth hole, and he's addressed a two-stroke penalty. Instead of being one shot off the lead going into Saturday, he's now three shots off the lead. He he threatens to not play on Saturday. He stays at the range until midnight hitting balls. He wouldn't tell anybody if he was gonna play on Saturday. Therefore, he was screwing up all the times of when people would tee off because uh if he doesn't play, then you get paired with someone else. It changes all the times of all the people uh before him and after him. So he's creating all this controversy. He, of course, he ends up playing Saturday. What did you think of the whole situation, guess, with Bryson DeChambeau? And then we got Rory's comments, which I'm gonna play after uh you addressed about the DeShambeau ruling.

Well, when they showed the the video, he was already standing way in back of where the ball was. So you didn't they didn't show him, at least the video I saw didn't show him when he first was looking for the ball, walking around. He was standing in back of the ball and and and he was trying to decide what to do. So I didn't see, I don't know, did they show a video of him when he first walked up?

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, they show a video of him first walking up, and he's just walking around. He's just walking around. It's not like he was uh, you know, look, it didn't look like to me he was matting down the grass on purpose. And I I I just don't I don't understand.

He could have been he could have been looking for his ball and just walked by the ball and and matted the grass down without really realizing that that's where his ball was.

So I was watching it live. I was up in the players' lines watching it with a few other players, and um as soon as he made the step into the ball, we all sort of looked at each other and were like, it didn't seem right. Um and then when I heard that he was you know he was called in by the rules officials, I think we all it was pretty obvious for why. Um yeah, I mean I think you know, I think there's no doubt that he improved the line of his boxing. So, you know, and again, it's like whether it was careless or whether it was intentional, I don't think it matters. Hopefully it was careless. Um, but I think the two-shot penalty was was justified for what what do you think the scene after obviously you guys were delayed getting your tea times as well because of what was going on. Well no for everyone. Um yeah, I look I you know I won't pretend to be up here in the fan rising. I'm not particularly fond of them. Um I think a lot of it's performative. Uh I think a lot of it's our attention, and yeah, you know, to to hold the tournament hostage like that and have all of us volunteers, players, everyone waiting on him to depart. I didn't feel like it was a great look.

Rory said that uh by him stepping all that on all the grass, he he improved his back swing. That's what Rory was getting at. And he said everybody was talking about it in the lounge. Everybody was talking about it.

Yeah, he's uh Rory talks a lot when he's having a bad round and he's not in contention. When he's in contention, he doesn't say anything. So Rory should just keep his mouth shut.

Now, what did what did you think, guess, of Brad Factson's comments of Scottie Scheffler having to play the first two rounds with Tyler Hatton and Bryson DeChambeau? He said having to play the first two rounds with those two was was a two sh was automatic adding on two strokes because he had a deal playing with those two. Have you ever heard of some kind have you ever heard a comment of that before?

Yeah, but they showed DeShambeau after a round. I I don't know, I forget whether whether it was Friday or Saturday. It must have been Friday. Scotty was on the putting green practicing, and DeShamble walked over to him and he was patting him on the back and like they were long lost buddies. So I I don't get I don't get Scotty's comment.

Well, your reason he's saying that is he's he's saying that Scotty shouldn't have to play with two live players. That's what it comes down to. That's what that's what it basically comes down to. And guess, if you look at it, right? Let's let's look at it this way. You think if Scotty Scheffler hit his ball in the rough on the fifth hole and walked around his ball, you think he would have been addressed a two-shot penalty? Guessed? Probably not. Because look at the break he got on 17 today.

Well, you know, on Saturday, Super, I think that's how you say his name, he was in the ruff. I don't know if you saw this. His ball was in the ruff, and he went around and was picking the grass around his ball, and he even picked up some grass behind his ball. Some dead grass that was on on the ground. Now, isn't that improving your lie?

It's different rules, guess, for uh, you know, whoever is uh whoever's out on the course. You know, it it's whatever the RNA thinks is is is a penalty and what is not, and it all depends what who the player is. That's what it that's what I think. And I guess I sent you that video, right? My buddy, my new friend of the show, Win Dum Clark. I sent you a video, guest, of the U.S. Open of him improving his lie on his back swing, and they don't get penalized him for it. What did you think of that video I sent you?

What did you think, guess, of the overall coverage of uh NBC? I I think NBC, guess, does a hundred times better job broadcasting golf than CBS. What did you think?

Yeah, I think I like I like NBC a little bit. The thing I don't like is that playing through thing where they show the commercial on one side and the golf on the other.

Well, I think it'd be oh it'd be alright if there wasn't a player that was in contention that they were that was playing on the right side when there was no comment or anything.

So you're saying, guess, when you put the commercial in, make sure it's a scrub. Now here's the other thing, guys. Here's the other thing that kills me about NBC. Mike Tariko, obviously. How about that scene with Tariko's with the claret jug? How he had to be standing there showing us the claret jug. How'd you like that whole thing? How he had to come out and go, this is the trophy they're gonna win today. You know, all of his Mike Tariko act and everything. I sent you a photo of it.

Yeah, Tarico's gotta come in at the beginning of the show. The beginning of the broadcast. He's got to come in there for like 10 or 15 minutes, and then he disappears, and you don't see him again until the end.

Well, he was over at the donut shop there on 17. Now, guest, here's the other thing I didn't understand. Yesterday and today, we had to have this guest commentator, Paul McGinley. Paul McGinley is famous for having two holes in one in two entirely different years in the Open Championship. That's it. Never won, never came close to sniffing any kind of championship, but here's this guy guest in the booth Saturday and Sunday as a guest commentator. Who cares what Paul McGinley says?

Uh before I let you go, guest, did you see the bison story out of Yellowstone National Park where uh this bison was laying in the ground, and all of a sudden he decided to get up and he started roaming around and he started chasing this older gentleman and I don't know if it was his grandson or his son around, and the bison ended up ramming the guy and flipping him about eight feet in the air. Did you happen to see that video, guess?

Yeah, they had it on the national news one morning. They showed the whole video that the guy and his and his uh, it was either his grandson or his granddaughter, they were standing there taking pictures of the bison. And all of a sudden, this white pickup truck came rolling by, and the bison got all excited, jumped up and was jumping around, and he went right after that guy. I guess the guy tried to hide in some of the trees that were there, but then he came back out, and that's when the bison got him through him about 10 feet in the air.

Well, that's what happens when you're uh out and about and you see uh an animal like that, and you're roaming around close to the animal. I see any kind of wild animal like that that I know that could eventually uh pop up and uh you know zone in on me and may come after me, you won't see the host standing around there. The host will be running in the other direction. Uh, you know, just like how the uh food comes in for the reps at the center table at work. Uh the host will be running like that, uh, you know, going and getting out of the way. Uh host doesn't want to be rammed by no bison. Jeez. My God. I I don't, you know, you know, the host and Mrs. Host have been out in the wilderness before, and uh, we've had some run-in with some animals. Uh we've uh scurried way out of the way and have gotten out of the way of uh crossing animal paths before. I don't know why people find it uh intriguing to uh hang out and film wild animals as they're roaming around. Remember, you're in their backyard. They're not in your backyard, you're in their backyard, you're in their territory. Don't mess with them. Right, guest?

But yeah, if anybody hasn't seen it yet, uh probably just go on the YouTubes or uh, you know, do a Google search for uh bison attack at Yellowstone uh National Park, and you'll see uh this guy at uh his like the guest said his grandson or grandkid or whatever, uh, you know, uh get chased down by the bison. This guy gets flipped. But that that that bison, that guy, that he's he's lucky that bison didn't come over and trample on him.

Yeah. That's what I was thinking. He just he just hit him and and the guy flew up in the air, and then the bison just went the other way. But he could have he could have gone over and really you know did a job on it.

First of all, if the host is ever in that situation, being athletic as the host is, he's doing the Le'Veon Bell spin move and getting right out of the way of that bison. That guy ain't touching the host. I I it's like flag football for me. That bison would be right, right, I'd whip right around that bison. That bison wouldn't be touching the host. That's all I'm gonna say about that. If I was ever in a situation like that.

Uh, we are uh, of course, we had to have him on to talk about the golf today. Uh, you know, everything that was going on over uh this past weekend, uh, you know, with the conspiracy stuff. But this thing, hey, we're not done yet with this show, folks. We're not done. Because we have more football over and unders to do, and we gotta go and start a new division. You didn't think the I wasn't gonna leave you guys hanging without some football over and unders on this show. So we've done half the NFL so far this year. We've done 16 teams. The host record dating back to 2025 so far through 16 teams is nine, six, and one. We are now starting a new division on this show. We are gonna move back and go to the AFC East. And let's just go with one of the better teams in the AFC East, the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo Bills finished the 2025 record with a 12 and I'm sorry, the 2025 season with a 12 and 5 record. Their head coach is new head coach, Joe Brady. He takes over for the fired Sean McDermott. Josh Allen was their leading passer last year. He had 3,668 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, 10 interceptions. He also had 579 rushing yards to go with that. Their leading running back was James Cook, 1,621 yards with 12 touchdowns. They also added 291 receiving yards. Their leading receiver was Shaqir with 719 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Their leading sacker was Greg Russo with seven sacks. Their leading tackler was Cole Bishop with 85. Offensively, they ranked fourth. Defensively, they ranked seventh. Their odds to win the division are minus 150. Favorites to win the AFC East. Odds to win the conference plus 480. Odds to win the Super Bowl plus 1,000. Their 2026 over and under is 10.5. Over is minus 140. Under 10.5 is plus 118. Last year, Buffalo Bills over and under was 12. The host had 12 and 5. They finished 12 and 5. Their format is a push. We weren't over or we weren't under. That drops our record over and under record last year to 9, 6, and 2. So the host had 12 and 5. They finished 12 and 5. Vegas had 12 wins. Pushed all the way there, folks. So nobody wins anything there. The house doesn't win. The host doesn't win. It goes to a push. They're key additions. They signed Bradley Chubb as they needed some pass rushers. CJ Gardner Johnson and they traded for DJ Moore, a second round pick. They lost Taryn Johnson, Dane Jackson, Curtis Samuel, and Tyler Knapp. They drafted TJ Parker, an edge rusher. David Binson, quarterback, Jude Bory, a tackle, guard. Now, before we go over the schedule, last year they were 12 on their over and under. Vegas has lowered them to 10 and a half. Now they added a better receiver with DJ Moore. I don't know if he was worth a second round pick. He's already had he's an older receiver, but Josh Allen needed some help in the receiving corps. Their GM went out and got that for him. Now, they got a player-friendly head coach now in Joe Brady. He's Josh's buddy. The offense is still gonna be pretty good. I don't know if James Cook this is this is key. And this is people, remember what happened the year before doesn't always happen the next year. Remember, remember, that's one thing you have to think about when following the NFL. Everything always doesn't happen again the way you think it should. And then people get upset at that when it doesn't. So remember, James Cook had his best year cystifically. I don't think he'll have a better year than he had last year. So let's just say James Cook drops off just a little bit. Or he, you know, lots of carries, you know, almost 1,900 yards, all-purpose yards, Thurman Thomas level for James Cook. Can he do that again this year? I don't know. That's one thing we gotta keep, you know, keep in the back of your mind. Now, the other key thing, Sean McDermott. He was a defensive coach. The Bills had the seventh ranked defense. I don't know how focused, how much Joe Brady knows defensively. And I don't know if the defensive coordinator they hired to run the defense. We don't know if he's gonna be capable of doing the same things with the defense as Sean McDermott did. Now, I think again, I think the offense will be a top 10 offense. I don't know. Now, this is the key thing for the Bills for me. And I love you guys up in Western New York. I I I want the Bills to do well. I want them, I can't I want them to be up there. If the Steelers aren't up there, I'll root for the Bills against the rest of the AFC team. I don't know if the defense losing Sean McDermott, I don't know if the Buffalo defense can be even a top 15 defense. There. That's that's my worry. So let's go to the schedule. They start the season at Houston, loss. They open their brand new stadium on Thursday night football against Detroit, win. San Diego at home, win. New England at home, win. They travel to the Rams on Monday night football, loss. At Oakland, win. Then they have a bye. Baltimore at home, win. At Minnesota, Monday night football, loss. At the Jets, win. Miami at home, win. Kansas City, Thursday night football, win. At New England, loss. At Green Bay on Sunday night football, loss. Chicago at home on a Saturday, loss. At Denver, Christmas Day, loss. At Miami win, the Jets at home win. I got Buffalo going 10 and 7. I am under the 10 and a half this year for the Bills. Plus 118 to the under. The host will take the under on the Bills. And again, a few things here as you look at the schedule. Just like a year ago. Detroit at home, San Diego at home, Baltimore at home, Kansas City at home, Chicago at home. Big games, big teams at home. Now they do have a couple hard road games. Rams, Green Bay, Denver. Those are three difficult places to play when you're on the road. Houston will be difficult the opening weekend. So I think Buffalo will have a little problem on the edge, but they got big games at home, and they gotta win those games when they're at the home team. Plus, they finish up against Miami and the Jets two cupcakes in the division. So they should be winning those two final two games of the season. I got Buffalo going 10-7, and my biggest concern for the Bills is the defense heading in to this season. Now, our second AFC East team. New England Patriots. They had a 2025 record of 14 and 3. Head coach is Mike Vrabel. Their leading QB is Drake May, 4,394 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, eight interceptions. Their leading receiver was Stefan Diggs, 85 catches for 1,013 yards. Their leading running back was Trayvon Henderson, 911 yards with nine touchdowns. Their leading sacker, Harold Landry, 8.5. Their leading tackler, Robert Spilini with 98. They had the third best offense and the eighth best defense. Their odds to win the division are plus 150. Buffalo was minus 150. Odds to win the conference plus 850. Odds to win the Super Bowl plus 2,000. Their 2026 over and under is 9.5 over minus 145. Under plus 120. Their 2025 over and under was 8.5. They went 14-3. The host had 7-10. That is a loss. That drops the host to 9-7-2 on his 2025 over and under. The host missed badly in his prediction of New England. He was seven games off. There are key additions this year. Romeo Knobbs, a four-year $80 million deal. AJ Brown in a trade. Kevin Byrd on defense. They lost Stefan Diggs. They lost Garrett Bradbury and Cleavon Chazum. They drafted Caleb Lowe, an offensive tackle, Gabe Jankis, an edge rusher, and Eli Raned in a tight end. Now their schedule. Defending AFC champs. Won the division. Gonna get all the first place teams. So they might have a more difficult schedule, but it doesn't look like that on paper. Buffalo's got the more difficult teams on their schedule. Baltimore, Kansas City, Denver. Well, New England has Kansas City and Denver because they play that division. They don't get Baltimore, they get Pittsburgh. So that's the difference between finishing first and second. And Pittsburgh are supposed to have a down, you know, they're not supposed to be as good as they were last year, even though they switched coaches, even though they got more offense. Who knows how New England's gonna do with that game? But they got the same teams as Buffalo almost. So here we go. They opened the season at Seattle on a Wednesday. They're playing the Super Bowl champions, a rematch of the Super Bowl. You know how that usually fares for any team that travels to the Super Bowl champion. That's a loss. Then they're at home against Pittsburgh, win. At Jacksonville lost, at Buffalo lost, I got New England starting one and three. Home against Oakland, home against the Jets, both wins, at Chicago lost, at Miami win, home against Green Bay, win. At Detroit, but that game's in Germany win. By at San Diego on Sunday night football. Now here's the difference. Buffalo gets San Diego at home. New England has to travel the San Diego and they have to play him on Sunday night football. Loss. Buffalo at home win. Thursday night football at home, Minnesota win. At Kansas City on Monday night football, loss. Now remember, Buffalo gets Kansas City at home on a short week on Thursday night football. See the difference when the schedules? At the Jets win. Denver at home loss. Miami at home win. I got New England 10-7. Same exact record as the Bills, but I'm over the 9.5. That's minus 145 to the over. So I like New England over by a half a game in their over-under record this year. I think New England will be good. I think a lot of teams are going to be after them and know what they do. I don't think they there's no way they win 14 games again this year. They're not going to creep up on teams. But I think they'll be a solid team. They'll be in it to the end. And it all depends on a number of these big games, how the ball bounces, turnovers go, of what New England goes. And can Drake May duplicate what he did last season? Can Drake May have another great season? They don't have a great running game. So their leading bacteria, he's not James Cook, but he's got Romeo Dobbs now. He's got AJ Brown now. So you know, that should be enough for Drake May to get it going. But you never know. You never know how A.J. Brown is going to be. He might be good for 12 or 14 games, and there'll be a game where he doesn't get the ball, and who knows what controversies that's going to start. And don't forget, the whole Mike Vrabel thing with Diana Roussini. Who knows how that's going to play out? Who knows if that's going to have any hangover on the team? Who knows if that's going to be brought up all season everywhere they go? Is Mike Vrabel going to be questioned about it? Is he going to be asked about it? And are they going to throw that out there? Is it going to eat at him? Is he going to be able to coach the same? So don't forget, that's still hanging out there for New England. But I got them at 10 and 7. And those are my first two AFC East teams. Of course, I left the two crappy AFC East teams to do on one show. That's the Jets in New England. We'll be doing those on the next show.
