The Ramblings of an Insomniac
Can’t sleep? Neither can I! This podcast is a peek inside my head. My crazy, sleep deprived brain. The rambling conversations I have with myself that keep me awake at night.
I use my IPHONE. I walk around, rambling into it. Wondering around my property, neighborhood or wherever.
You hear everything. My dogs, coyotes, crickets, birds. You hear unedited, life. You never know, who or what may interrupt?
I keep my opinions, emotions and my podcast, uncensored . I discuss politics, government, mental health, addiction, family, love, dog training, America…life. I talk things out. Working my life out in real time with an audience. Or at least, I HOPE?
Look, this is NOT a professional podcast. It’s poor quality. My intro and outdo music somehow, faded into the ether? I had both. Now they’re gone. This podcast is not for the faint of heart. If you need safe rooms, I may not be your gal?
You will either like it? Or not? I hope you like it? Only one way to find out…

In this episode I discuss learning from our mistakes, Darwinism and never saying, never.
Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Ramblings of an Insomniac. I'm Courtney. Hi, hello. Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening. How the heck are you? I am doing this through my Bluetooth. So we shall see. I don't know if this is gonna work, but again, my phone has been sounding weird. In fact, I'm gonna take the case off and just see if that helps. Um, but hello. Welcome, welcome every single person. Thank you so much for checking out my podcast. Lord knows you have a million to choose from. Everybody and their aunt has a podcast, and so I am nothing special. You know, I say all the time that humans are not special. None of us are special. Um, there are billions of us out there, therefore we're not special. I'm hanging upside down, by the way, stretching over the side of my bed, and it's making my voice sound weird. Um, so I'm stretching while I'm talking to you because I'm extraordinarily oh I am so tight right now, it is ridiculous how bad I need a chiropractor, an actual acupuncturist. I've never had acupuncture before, never, and I want to try it out. But I need to get back into yoga and I need a chiropractor ASAP. So I've been trying to stretch every night, and holy cow, I am my good gravy, I am so um tense and so like um well tense that I can't even get like when I bend down right now to touch my toes. You guys, I can barely get past my knees. Like this is insane. I can get like one hand length past my knees. That's all I can do. That's as low as I can get to the ground for stretching because I am so freaking tense and tight and like concrete, it is ridiculous. Ugh, so I need to start stretching, which is what I am working on. I really am. I am trying um to get back into that routine because it is so important to stretch and breathe. And of course, people are like, duh. Obviously, breathing is important, Courtney. We are all aware of how important it is to breathe. But you know what I mean? I mean, seriously take a breath, like deep study paste, you know, like a study and a steady-paced breath in through your nose and like you know, slow and steady and out through your mouth, slow and steady, and take those good, deep, clean breaths. They just help recenter you, and I forget, you know, how much they do, and I say it on my podcast all the time. I try, I try to say it at the end of my podcast, you know, to remember to take a breath and stuff, and I forget, but man, um, when I do start stretching again and I take those breaths, I'm like, oh god, it feels so good. And you forget just how fucking amazing it is to just stretch it out, stretch it out, and stretch it out and stretch it out, yeah. Walk it out and walk it out. It's really good to walk it out too, actually. I just got back from um, it was only a half an hour work. What work? Ugh, walk, but um, I went on an hour walk earlier. Um, yesterday, I went on an hour walk in the morning, an hour walk in the evening um with the dog that I am sitting for. And so um I like when I'm dog sitting because it keeps me active, keeps my butt walking and going. So I am for I don't want to say forced to exercise because I like to, and I especially like doing it with um the animals that I sit for. But I mean forced as an you know, sometimes you're tired, sometimes you are comfortable and you don't want to get up. But dogs come first, cats come first, animals come first, so at least the ones I'm sitting for. And so it keeps me going, keeps me active. But holy cow, I have been crazy, crazy tense and like stiff, and I am hurting so bad. And now you're gonna hear my uh floor squeak, but I am just hurting like a mofo. So I went on a walk, put on some good music, and you know another thing, I forget how sometimes good music, you're just like, yeah. And I'm not gonna lie, there are songs I don't want to admit that I like. You know, we all have those songs that we don't want to admit that maybe we jam out to. And I've talked about this before in in a podcast of mine and some videos I've done on YouTube about I think a lot of us have those songs we are kind of not ashamed to like, but we're like, we closet case like them. And I just got done listening to Firework by Katie Perry. And I'm not saying that that song's a bad song and that you should be ashamed of liking it, but you know, I'm 52. But you know, age doesn't necessarily matter, but I I was like, fuck yeah, I'm a firework. I am a firework, Katie. You're right. And I was all feeling myself. And I also, I'm not gonna lie, I still sometimes like dancing out to party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. I'm sorry, it's a fun song to dance to. And as much as I can't stand Taylor Swift, as much as she drives me bat bananos crazy, I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I like listening to Shake It Off because I like the message. I do like the message of it. There are many artists that I don't agree with politically, that are so far away from what I believe in, but I'm trying to separate those things because if I like a song, I like a song and I don't wanna, it honestly isn't gonna phase them or affect them in any way if I stop listening to their song. Now, what will phase, you know, a musician or an actor, an actress is not going to their movies, not buying their merchandise, not following them on social media. You know, if if everybody stops buying their music and everybody stops buying their merchandise and stops following them on social media and stops going to their movies or watching their shows, then of course that is gonna start taking a massive effect. I mean, Jelly Roll, I think, was at 10 million followers, I believe he was at 10 million followers. And now he's at like five and a half million, so he lost half of his fan base. Now, I think the man should have a right to say how he feels. Jamie Kimmel has the right to say how he feels. And the freedom of speech is freedom for everybody in America, you know. We all have that right. But, you know, citizens, um, consumers also have the right to decide if what that person says is something they can stand behind, if it's something that they can support. And sometimes people don't want to separate music from politics, from religion, from sexual orientation, from race, whatever the case may be. By the way, I'm hanging upside down again, and I don't know if you guys can tell a difference, but I can. Anyway, um, you know, and I feel like in a way we should be able to separate the two. That said, if someone like Macklemore, you guys knew I was gonna bring it up, if someone like Macklemore is going to use another musician's platform to make a big to-do, make a big production, make a big hoopla about their political points of view, again, they have that right, but do they, do they when it's on someone else's time and someone else's platform? I mean, I guess technically it was his time because Ed Sheeran okayed him and approved him, approved Macklemore to um to perform at his concert. You know, Ed Sheeran approved it. He said, okay. I don't know if they had a discussion beforehand about, you know, hey, I don't know if McLamar was like, hey, by the way, I want to talk about Palestine and I want to bring politics and my opinion into this concert. Is that cool with you? I don't know if they had a conversation. I'm assuming not. I don't know enough about what happened to know. I'm assuming he did not, because obviously Ed Sheeran seemed to have had a problem with it. And I don't know why people are hating on Ed Sheeran. Honestly, it surprised me, it very much surprises me that Ed Sheeran is not pro-Palestine because he's such a liberal. And um, you know, he and Taylor are besties, and I know Ed has a lot of very, very liberal uh points of view. So I'm honestly quite surprised that he's not pro-Palestine. Maybe he is, maybe he is pro-Palestine, and he just doesn't want any of that at his concert. I honestly am ignorant on the topic. Um, I just know that McLamore, I saw the videos of McLamore going out there ranting and raving about Palestine and being pro-Palestine, and I saw those videos. I, to be honest, the only thing I saw was, you know, that Ed Sharon was like, hey, whoa, not cool, man. And I guess said, you know, you're not gonna be able to perform at my future concerts. And that is his choice. Why are we what business is it of ours if Ed Sharon doesn't want a certain artist to perform at his um at his concerts? You don't have to go to an Ed Sharon concert, that's fine, but he has a right to his opinion and he doesn't want it to be a political thing. Why is that bad? People have gotten really entitled and narcissistic, honestly. Again, I've talked about this so many times on a million of my episodes, and that is that people think the sun and the moon revolves around their own asses, that they are so up their own ass, they honest to God think that everybody and everyone needs to be in their universe, their beliefs, and their beliefs are the only beliefs, and they are so passionate about these beliefs, and they are so just passionate about it, but yet no one can ever seem to back up anything they say with logic or reason or sense. If you ask people to provide you with one single tiny shred of evidence of what they claim, I would say eight times out of ten, they cannot. And I feel like if you're gonna like something, you don't necessarily have to have a reason. But I feel like if you dislike something, I feel like you should have a reason. I know that sounds weird, but I feel like if you like something, I'm like, all right, you like it, and um I feel like, you know, maybe you should be backing it up, but I I care more about when you say you don't like something, why? And then I feel like you need to provide, you know, if you're making a claim about someone being racist or a Nazi or a Schmetterphile, you know, or unaliving somebody, or you know, visiting a certain island, I feel you should have proof of those things because now you're accusing someone of doing something that is illegal. And I feel like we shouldn't just throw those things out there willy-nilly, just tossing out accusations like we're Oprah. You get accused, you get accused, pointing your finger at you, making claims about you. I mean, my God, how many things have they said about Trump now that have been so false? How many things have they said about Trump and Charlie Kirk that have been balls-out fucking lie, false, absolute insanity? And then when you say, hey, give me one single, one single bit of evidence, what they will do more often than not is ignore you and they'll bow out because they're like, oh fuck, evidence. I don't have that. Oh, I don't actually, I can't actually back up what I'm saying. I'm just barking out my asshole. I'm just vomiting word diarrhea and hoping that it sticks to something. I don't know you were actually gonna call me out. Shit. And I find that weird because I don't want to be embarrassed and look stupid. I'm not a fan personally of looking like an idiot. I I don't find that fun or entertaining. I mean, I have looked and sounded like an idiot. Trust me, I've made videos where I'm like, ooh, that didn't sound great. I've made episodes where I'm like, uh, I probably could have been kinder, calmer, quieter. And nobody, I feel like nobody wants to be embarrassed or look like an idiot, but the evidence is uh proving otherwise. It appears that many people don't mind at all looking like an idiot. It appears many people don't mind looking fucking retarded at all. They're proud of it, they do it loud and proud, they stand up tall, head held high, and they're like doo doo doo! Idiot coming through. Make way for the idiot. I think we need to bring back dunce caps. You know, those big old gigantic tall cone caps where you sit in the corner with the dunce cap on. I swear to god, we need to bring those back. Only instead of in a corner, you need to be like in the public square. We need to bring back public hazing, I swear to God. You know, like Game of Thrones style, where you're like, shame, shame, shame, and you're like walking through the center of the city while everybody throws poop at you and screams shame. I know that's terrible, that's horrible, but maybe it would stop people. Maybe just maybe, but then again, like I said, no one seems to mind being embarrassed and being ashamed. No one's ashamed anymore. No one has shame, it seems. Or pride. People like to pretend they have pride, but um mine and your version or some people's version of pride is vastly different, apparently. My version of pride and some other people's version of pride are just not the same, and that's okay. I'm not claiming to be right. I'm not saying that I'm correct. Or just different. You know, just different. Nothing wrong with differences, nothing wrong with me having, excuse me, pardon me, I had to pause it and cough. Nothing wrong with you and Joe Blow and Sally Sue, um, having a difference of opinion, who cares? But it bothers me because I saw a meme the other day that said, uh, basically, I'm not gonna get it word for word, I'm not gonna get it verbatim, but basically it said maybe we should have allowed the people that ate the Tide Pods to eat the Tide Pods, to like, you know, maybe we should have allowed more people to eat the Tide Pods. And that sounds horrible. It's the same premise of Darwin, right? Let Darwin take over, let the stupid just um take care of itself. And that's horrible because if my children were stupid, if my family members were stupid and something happened to them because they were idiots, obviously I would be grief-stricken. I would be inconsolable. I don't want anything to happen to my family because they're idiots. I don't want anything to happen to my family no matter what. And I don't want anybody to lose a family member because they ate a Tide Pod. But the point of that is, you know, sometimes Darwin, you know, sometimes life has a way of sorting things out on their own. Sometimes life has a way of taking care of itself. That's why Mother Nature has tsunamis and earthquakes and hurricanes, I think, once in a while. Because it has a way of, for whatever reason, it's like I gotta get rid of some shit, I gotta blow off some steam. And then other times, you know, maybe it happens because we're drilling, maybe it happens because who knows? Whatever you want to believe, I don't subscribe to climate change. Well, I subscribe to climate change, but I but in the different way. This world, this earth, is we forget that we are a little teeny, tiny, itty-bitty dot. We are a blip on the radar of how long Earth has been around. And I think we forget that. We get consumed and narcissistic, and we think again that we're the only things that exist. We're the only things that have ever, ever existed, humans. But humans are not that old, considering how long the earth has been around. And the earth has been cooling and heating and cooling and heating for a long time now. She has a way of working herself out. She gets hot, she gets cold. She has a way of, you know, working itself out. And what we really need to be concerned about is the earth getting colder. We really, really don't want it to be the ice age. We don't want any extreme, of course. We don't want too hot, we don't want too cold. We're like Goldilocks. We need it just right. And that's not being Goldilocks, it's balance, which is another thing I talk about incessantly. Balance. Moderation. Drinking isn't bad. I mean, unless you're an alcoholic and you know you're not supposed to be drinking, but that's why what I'm gonna say is even more important. Drinking isn't bad, it's just moderation, it's how much you drink, unless, of course, you're taking prescriptions and you're not supposed to, but you know what I'm trying to say. Eating cake, eating cookies isn't bad if you have, you know, a piece of cake, not you know, two, three pieces of cake and don't exercise. So I feel like everything is in moderation and the world can heat and cool. And of course, things like you know, um having cars being invented and more people on the planet, of course, is gonna alter things. I'm not claiming that we're not gonna make an imprint on the earth, but technically, we really are just an ant. We're just a teeny tiny blip on Earth's radar. We've only been here for an incredibly small amount of time given how old Earth is, and we've made an incredibly incredible dinosaurs have made a larger imprint, and we actually need things to be hotter in a way, because then things can grow and we can actually have crops and stuff. Whereas if everything is cold, we're not gonna be able to grow crops. We would have to have greenhouses and things. But if you look at the data, if you look at science, again, given the amount of time we've been on this earth, and you look at the temperature changes, we're such a small blip. But whatever, you people can do their own research. This is why I encourage people. Chat GPT, if you if you ask the right questions to Chat GPT. I love this resource because it literally checks every database. It doesn't check Republican, it doesn't check Democrat, it doesn't check independence, it doesn't check gay, straight, trans, it doesn't check Lutheran, Catholic, atheist, it doesn't check male, female, it doesn't check CNN or Fox. It literally checks all of the world's databases. It gathers all the information in the world from all the sources and it gives you correct information. And you know, you can't be sneaky and ask things so that you get your correct answer. But I encourage people to look up their own stuff because again, you need to be educated when you're speaking of something. I admit all the time when I have no idea what the fuck I'm talking about, which is probably most of the time, you know. I'm not claiming to be some all-knowing, friggin' wise Yoda. Lord knows that's not true. But I've been here for a bit, I've learned some things. Um, thank God. You know, mistakes are we all make them because we're not perfect. We are imperfect. Again, I have tried to make a habit of telling people they're not special and that we aren't perfect in every episode. Um we're not perfect, so we are going to make mistakes. And an accident is doing something once and like, oh shit, whoops. Ugh, you know, you are you accidentally. Why is my brain blank? You know, an accident, you do something, you know, once or twice, and it's like, oh shit, damn, my bad. But when you're doing it three, four, five times, it's now intentional. It's not an accident anymore. You're not learning your lesson. You're clearly not taking accountability, you're not getting consequences, you're not learning your lesson. And that to me, it's so important to learn from your mistakes. Otherwise, you went through these mistakes for no reason. At least if you made a mistake, you and you've learned something from it, it's like, okay, something bad happened. That sucked. But at least now I have been like, oh shit, don't do that again. Or, oh, duly noted, I need to do things differently. I need to say things differently. I need to have my hands at 10 and 2 and not be on the phone. Whatever the thing is, um accidents can be okay. I mean, you know, I don't want people to get hurt or anything like that. But if you're learning a lesson, you're like, okay. But you know, like people, for example, that drink and drive. One time, I'm not saying one time's okay. I'm not promoting drinking and driving. I'm not saying it's okay at all. But one time, and I'm not saying it's necessarily an accident either, because you're getting in the car when you're drinking. But I'm saying people sometimes, good people, good people that do good things with amazing intentions, fuck up sometimes. Sometimes we just fuck up. No matter how amazing we are as humans, no matter how good we are, no matter how we have followed all of the rules our entire lives, and we have helped, and we are like mother frickin' Teresa, and we have helped every animal and humans, and we have done all the things, and we're a good mom and a good spouse and a good daughter or son or whatever, but sometimes we fuck up, and sometimes we make really dumb, really poor, horrible decisions. And sometimes those decisions are drinking and driving. And the best people in the world can make the stupidest choices sometimes. And let's say you do that. Let's say you get in a car and you drink and drive and you get an accident, God forbid, or you know, you get pulled over. You're like, son of a bitch, crap. Learned my lesson, not doing that again. I could have hurt someone else, I could have hurt myself. Wrong thing to do. Next time, designated driver, cab, whatever. A mistake. You know, it's a mistake. But of course, if you continue to do that, well, then now you're not learning your lesson, and you are, it's no longer a mistake, it's not an accident. You have, you didn't clearly you are intentionally now, you're like, ah, I've drank and dried before, and oh, I know the consequences, and I've told I've been told what happens if I get another DUI and I could potentially hurt myself or someone else, but I'm still gonna do it. Well, obviously, if you're drunk too, you're impaired. So obviously you're not going to make good choices because you are in no position, no state of mind to be making good choices. But that doesn't mean that it's a mistake, though, because you knew ahead of time you were going to be drinking. Maybe you didn't know you were gonna get drunk, maybe you had no intention whatsoever of getting drunk, and you're like, oh shit, I I I drank too much, I didn't mean to. But usually yourself or someone else is aware, and people need to start speaking up too. And telling someone, you know, telling their friend or someone else, hey, you know, you might be too drunk to drive. Let's not chance it. You know, we don't need to chance it. Too many people are chancing things. Like I've been watching these videos lately of people going on hikes where they are really inexperienced, and it's on a hike that is for very experienced people, and it'll be on days where it's hotter than shit, like three digits, and everybody will be like, no, no, no, don't do this, even if you're experienced. Don't do this hike today. And people are like, ah, fuck it, and they do it. Well, obviously, that's not good because um, unfortunately, um, I've been seeing these videos of hikers that are dying because of heat stroke, or they are sliding off of cliffs because they are placed there in places they shouldn't, because they want to get a good selfie. It's all about getting that good footage to post on social media. I was watching a thing on these two women that went to Yellowstone and they did not obey the rules about staying in the um on the side, not the sidewalk, staying on the boardwalk and staying, you know, behind the railing. And they even got talked to by the rangers there, and they decided they just really needed that footage, they really needed those pictures for social media, and they just had to, so they stepped over the railing and both of them passed away. And that's horrible and that's sad, and that is tragic. But I have been seeing more and more videos of the same thing, people just needing that really good selfie. These two, this two couple, um, I mean, this couple, these two people that were a couple, went to Zion National Park to Angel's Landing, and they were being obnoxious and almost, well, they did, they pushed two um hikers off the side because they were being impatient and not at all um respecting boundaries, and it was a very, very narrow pathway, and they pushed them aside. Well, then they ended up dying a little while later because they decided they wanted to really get those pictures, they just had to get those pictures, and so they went behind railing, they went behind a um, well, yeah, like a railing, and unfortunately, they lost their footing and they passed away. And more and more people are just completely disrespectful of other people's spaces and boundaries, and they are completely just want that shot and they are unaware. And mistakes to me, I mean, we again we're not perfect, but when you are constantly reminded and told, hey, don't do that, hey, don't do that, and you just disregard things, that's not really a mistake anymore. I mean, they they push these two people off because they were shoving them out of the way so that they could get around them in this very narrow, narrow space with an incredibly sharp drop-off. And they didn't even, when they realized that these two people fell, they didn't, by the way, the two people that fell ended up being okay. They didn't die or anything like that. They didn't pass away, they got hurt, but they lived. They sat there, looked down for a minute, realized that they were alive, that the two people lived, and then continued to hike. Didn't try to help these people, didn't call 911, didn't try to get them help, didn't say sorry, didn't feel sorry. They now think though that the heat was getting to them and the heat was making them extra agitated and altered their state of mind. But point being, there are people that make mistakes, and there are people that just don't listen and they don't obey the law, and they don't listen to people to they don't read signs or listen to signs and they don't think the rules apply to them. And those people mess it up for everybody else. I personally get real tired, real, real tired of other people fucking things up for the people that do follow the rules. I mean, listen, we all get a little sassy, we all get a little wild and crazy. My God, I have been one to break some rules, obviously. I am no saint and I don't want to be hypocritical. I have fucked up, I have broken rules, um, I have done stupid shit. Thank God I have not killed myself or someone else. So I try to be like, okay, good people do stupid things, and we forget that. We don't always give grace because sometimes the stupid things we do really, really hurt somebody else or unalive someone else. And obviously that is a huge big deal. But sometimes a really, really good person does something like that, and it, you know, we all would be like, oh my god, I can't believe, I can't believe they would do that. And people need to kind of shut the fuck up because we all like to say, I would never, I would never. Well, maybe there is a zero, zero, you know, one percent chance that you would do it. And you know, maybe the chances are so, so slim, very, very slim, that you would do it. But I feel like, you know, it's the the cliche, never say never. I don't think you should say never. Because we just don't know unless we're in that situation. And again, this is something I talk about quite a bit. I used to say shit like that. I used to be like, I would never, like you know, when you're younger and you're don't have kids. We've all done this when you don't have kids. You're like, I would never do that. I would never have a pacifier, I would never spank my child, I would never ground my child, um, I would never do gentle parenting, I would never spank, I would never do a bottle, I would never do a pacifier, I would breastfeed, I wouldn't breastfeed, whatever. And then we become a parent and we're like, huh. A lot of the things I said I would never do, I'm doing. And then other things I didn't do. Because you don't know unless you're in the situation. It's really easy to sit back when you are not the one in a situation and judge someone that's actually going through it and living life. Just like people that have been in prison. There are some good people in prison, and that sounds like a weird thing to say, but there are. And there are terrible people in prison. So you know, don't never say never. And we need to learn from our mistakes and grow, and that's the important thing. If we're gonna make a mistake, at least make it useful, you know. Otherwise, we made a mistake, and now we've also learned nothing from it, so it was a waste, and that sucks, you know. You know what's not a mistake listening to this podcast. I mean, maybe it was, maybe you accidentally turned me on, then you're like, fuck, who's this bitch? What is she yammering on about into her phone? Again, I'm talking into my phone and I'm on my Bluetooth right now, so it's never gonna sound good. And I've lost my intro and outro, which is a real big bummer. But yet, you guys still listen because you're badass motherfuckers, that's why. Because you're amazing, and I absolutely what up Singapore UK bring it in, by the way. It's something like America, Japan, uh, UK now in third. Oop, train. That was my actually whoop whoop. There you go. That's my shout out to you guys. That's my woo. Ha, that's my woo to you guys. Um, but it's uh America, uh Singapore, no, America, Japan, Singapore, UK. That's what it is. So, hey, I have to tell you, you guys freaking rock my socks. No matter what country you're from, no matter where you're from, no matter what background you come from, if you are tuning into this podcast knowing how shitty quality it is, and that I just yammer on, um, and yet you still listen, then you deserve the high five, the gold star, you deserve the robot. I love doing the robot. Ready? Uh-uh-uh-uh. Well, you guys can't see me because I don't have the video, but just know I'm doing the robot, okay? I wish I could think of different ways to say thank you. Um, but honest to gravy, I really, really genuinely can't tell you enough that I appreciate you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I hope you tell a friend, a family member, a coworker, a boss, um your spouse, shout it from the rooftops. Um, and I hope you listen again. Remember to control the things you can let go of all the rest of the crazy, crazy BS. Just let it go. Um, and remember to breathe in through your nose and let it out through your mouth, and just let all of the other bologna go. Thank you so much until next time.
