Listen, no fancy editing today. I had to film this video this morning, right now. In fact, I've not even had my coffee yet. I'm going to sit and drink my coffee with you guys while I make this video, but I had to let you know what just happened Because, honestly, I'm getting annoyed at this point and I don't want to be a negative person.
Speaker 1:I don't want to rant too much. I don't want to be that guy that's screaming on the internet and that's not my style at all. I want to uplift people, but what I heard the other day pissed me off so much that I had to make this video right now. So what happened? What am I talking about? First, who am I?
Speaker 1:My name is Leon Sylvester. I am basically the founder of a coaching company called Sober Clear. I've not drank myself for almost seven years. I struggled with alcohol for a decade, trying AA meetings, trying to use willpower, reading stop drinking books, doing all this stuff, nothing worked until I found a new method. And now that's what I teach in my coaching company. Sober, clear. Now, before we get into why I'm so damn angry anyway, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm just. I'm not even sure how to bottle this emotion up. But before I get into it, I do have a free video training down in the description that you can access. That shows you how my new method works. It works as little as 48 hours. You know, tens of thousands of people have watched that video. They say it changed their life. So definitely go and watch that free training.
Speaker 1:But let me get into it. So in my coaching company, right, I do a lot of calls. I've probably done upwards of two and a half thousand phone calls now with people who have got drinking problems out, with people who have got drinking problems. So you can imagine I've heard it all, but what I heard the other day honestly, I want to go and find this person and beat them to death Not literally. I hope I don't get in trouble saying that, right? So let me have a sip of this, because it's early here.
Speaker 1:So I get on a call with this guy and this guy is super successful. He works in finance and I think he said he had 600 employees underneath him, right, so this is a top level leader and this is, you know, a lot of the people that I work with. Right, they've got the financial resources to go to a 50 grand a month rehab, right, not, not listen, I've got clients that aren't at that level, right, but I get a lot of people these top level people they get in contact with me that want help because they want something new, they want something different. They know that the traditional ways of failing them and what I heard next, just honest to God, just drove me insane. So this guy's like you know he knew he wanted to change, right, starting to affect his health, starting to affect his relationships. You know the trust stuff with the wife, and you know it's the same story. I've heard the story a million times.
Speaker 1:So what does he do? Right, he does what everybody else does. He goes to the doctor and guess what the doctor said Well, have you thought about drinking? You know? Just maybe one or two drinks, you fucking what. Honestly, if a doctor said that to me, I would try and get his license revoked. Like, I'm coming to you with a personal problem, not a personal problem, a drug addiction. And you're telling me to keep taking the damn drug. What If he could drink less? He'd be drinking less.
Speaker 1:A doctor, a medical professional, a person that's probably spent 200 grand on you know college educations and spent 10 years studying, and they're able to read all these academic papers, and somebody comes in with a really personal problem, a drinking problem, a drug addiction. Well, if you thought about just having one or two, like everybody else, you're fucking what, man? When I heard that, my heart just sank because I wondered. I wondered how many millions of Americans? Because I don't know if this happens in other countries, right, but I thought how many millions of Americans are going to doctors and they're sitting having a conversation, opening up their heart, and the doctor's turning around and telling them to have one drink.
Speaker 1:Can you imagine that? Listen, there's no such thing as one drink, right, just like there's no such thing as one coffee. Hang on, I am addicted to caffeine, right, but I don't care about that. I'll tell you why. If I drink alcohol, I destroy everything, right? I will have no money left, I will have no relationship, I'll hurt my relationships with my friends, and alcohol is a slow, slippery slope downwards. Caffeine addiction. I ain't going to drink 10 cups of coffee and then crash my car, right? You get the point. Anyway, I'm not perfect, so right.
Speaker 1:So this guy tells me that the doctor tells him to have one or two drinks. And I heard it and you know, my heart sank. Luckily, this guy saw sense and said I want to try something new, I want to reframe the way I view alcohol. I don't want to go and listen to these dumb ass doctors that have got no clue what they're talking about. So we joined the program. So I'm very excited to see the change in this client. We've not actually properly started our work together yet, but that's good news, right. At least he saw sense.
Speaker 1:So next, next thing I'm angry about. So I don't want to sound like a gossip, right, but I've seen a stop drinking coach, right, and I'm never going to name this person because I'm not that type of guy and I'm not trying to create conflict, I'm not trying to create an enemy, but it's not just one guy, I've seen it multiple times. So I'm not like singling anybody out here, but I've seen stop drinking coaches. Right, these are supposed to be leaders. These are supposed to be example setters. Right, they're supposed to set the standard and I've heard them sit and say they still drink. Bro, what are we doing here? What's going on?
Speaker 1:Alcohol is a drug, right? What's going on? Alcohol is a drug, right? Alcohol is a drug, and when you drink the drug, you get dehydrated, your inhibitions are lowered and then it makes you want to drink more and more and more, and it's a chain reaction that never ends until you stop. So we've got one side of the spectrum. We've got top medical professionals, people that we trust with our lives, telling us to have just one drink. Then we've got stop drinking coaches telling us that they still drink. Right, what is going on?
Speaker 1:I want to make one thing clear right, I say in these videos a lot that you can control your drinking, and you can. You can control your drinking the same way that you can control your drinking and you can. You can control your drinking the same way that you can control your crack cocaine usage, the same way that you can control jumping in front of a moving vehicle. Right, you've got control over those things. You've got control over getting on an airplane and pulling the emergency exit and jumping out, don't you? You've got control over that, but you don't do it. Because why the heck would you want to do that? You've got control over that, but you don't do it. Because why the heck would you want to do that? You've got control over shooting us some heroin in your arm, don't you? You can do that whenever you want, but you don't do it. See, that's where you want to get to. You want to get to a place where you can take it or leave it, but you always choose to leave it. That's what true control is.
Speaker 1:I say the word control, but you want to know why. It's a bit of a gimmick. I'll let you in on a little secret. I say it to kind of reel people in. I say that you can control your drinking one day, but there ain't no such thing as control. True control is what I experience, it's what my clients experience. It's being able to take it or leave it whenever you want and then always choosing to leave it. So these people who are these doctors that are saying have one or two, have got it ass backwards. They're not in control. These gurus that are still drinking I don't get it, but that's the weirdest thing ever. But they don't understand what true control is and listen, I did a call yesterday with another guy and I felt a little bit bad because I was a bit harsh. So hopefully you'll watch this video, so I'll just in fact I'll send it to you. I apologize because I was very blunt on this conversation, because he kind of pushed a little bit and it ended up being a bit more of a debate rather than coaching or, you know, seeing if the program was a good fit, and I hate it when a call goes in that direction.
Speaker 1:But my worldview with alcohol is totally black and white. Right, I have pure binary thinking with alcohol for me. So binary thinking is when you know. It's kind of like you know you love who is it? You love Kamala Harris, but you hate Donald Trump. Or it's the other way around. Right, it's like black or white thinking One person's right, the other person's wrong, and or I mean like in Thailand, you've got the royalist and then you've got the non-royalist, where I am right now.
Speaker 1:Some people think that you know, binary thinking is wrong in most cases. Usually the answer is in the middle, right, it's in the conversation. So I don't buy into binary thinking in most things except alcohol. But let me have a quick caveat here, except my relationship with alcohol. Right, that is binary thinking. I think alcohol is poison, I think alcohol is ethanol, I think there's no advantage to drinking it, and I think that that's the case for everybody. But I'm not going to say that there aren't people out there who do drink and have a relationship with alcohol, that they can have one or two drinks and things are fine.
Speaker 1:The problem is is I spent years romanticizing that I could be that way, but I'm not built that way. Right, when I have one drink, it leads into more, it leads into problems. So, anyway, one second, it's early, I need more coffee, hang on, so anyway. So I get on the call with this person yesterday and he starts telling me that he's not sure he wants to stop yet, right, and I'm like okay, and I mean at least he's on the call, right, at least he is kind of like toying with the idea. And I just said, man, maybe we're not right to work together, but I didn't say it like that, I was a little bit harsher because he pushed back on my ideas. But the thing is is whenever somebody pushes back on my ideas on alcohol, I'm open-minded on anything. Right, you can change my mind about anything. I will listen to anybody on any topic and I'm open-minded. What's that opinion? You should have strong ideas, loosely held With alcohol. My ideas will not change, my worldview is so strong.
Speaker 1:And this guy was almost having a little debate and giving me a little bit of pushback and I was getting angry. Was having a little debate and giving me a little bit of pushback and I was getting angry because I'm thinking yo, dude, like you're wrong. And he'd say well, you know, you can't compare alcohol to crack cocaine which which I do and I'm like what, what are you talking about? Like it's a freaking drug, the same way crack is, and it kills more people than crack. Anyway, he's like, but no, but anyway, the point of the matter is that he wasn't sure if he wanted to stop or not and I just said well, we're probably not the right fit to work together. Totally cool, let's go our separate ways. If you ever want to help in the future, I'm here for you. You know all good.
Speaker 1:But what's the problem here? Well, the deeper problem lies in these damn idiots that are telling people to have one or two drinks. It's ludicrous, all these damn idiots that are telling people to have one or two drinks. It's ludicrous, all these damn idiots that are telling people that they still drink alcohol, when they're supposed to be the ones setting the example. And you know what? I'm going to be honest. I tell people sometimes that when you go through my program, you can still drink. And you can Because, do you know what? I can't stop anybody from doing anything. I can't stop anyone from doing anything. And I'll be honest, right, because I go back to what I was saying before about binary thinking. For me, my ideas on alcohol are set. They'll never change. There have been people in my program that have gone through my program and they have successfully managed to drink less. Right? That's happened a handful of times. Is that the norm? No, is that my goal for them? No, but I'm not in control of anybody's actions, right.
Speaker 1:But going back to what I was saying, is, the point of this video here is that we're getting mixed messages all the time from people Doctors, coaches, alcohol companies drink responsibly. There's the big one drink responsibly, right? What the heck does that even mean? And, honestly, I'm just getting fed up with it. Sometimes I wish I owned an alcohol company, because I'd be bloody so rich I wouldn't be staying in a hotel right now. I'd be in a castle, but I'm not, because I'm not an unethical drug dealer, right? That's selling a drug that's killing millions of people.
Speaker 1:So let me end on this. I wanted to remind you, right, that there's no such thing as having one drink. If anybody's telling you that one day you're going to be able to drink, the chance is low, right, I told you. There's people in my program that have done it. It's not the norm, it's not what I want for people. I want people to get to that place of true, true control where they can go on that vacation, you know, to a place like a fully inclusive place where there's nice food and everything and there's alcohol there and they don't drink. You know I've done that loads of times.
Speaker 1:You know I've got a free upgrade to first class recently. So I'll tell you a quick story. My video editor and my wife we flew from Dubai to Bangkok, business class, and I paid for my obviously for my wife and I paid for my editor as a gift just to say thank you for all the great work that he's done, because he's made these videos amazing. So you've got him to thank for a lot of these videos. So, as a way to say thank you, I upgraded him to business class and it's Emirates, so it's nice. Anyway, lucky me. They say hey, you, leon, you've been upgraded to first class, so that was pretty fun.
Speaker 1:And you know, they come in and then it's unlimited drinks and it's all this expensive stuff and it's like I don't even notice it, it's like I'm blind to it. And then I saw the guy next to me drinking his champagne and I thought why, what's the point? And we've got all these associations with, like, well, I'm in first class, so I should have my champagne. And I'm sat there drinking this orange juice, still feeling like a boss, right, still feeling pretty good. But this is the point, right, alcohol is poison. It doesn't enhance your life in any way. It does absolutely nothing for you because it's a drug. And yeah, I'm sorry to go on such a rant, but I was getting annoyed. I was getting annoyed. Anyway, listen, quick one. We're accepting new clients right now, so we're open for enrollment. Excuse me, I had to close enrollments down in March. Things got too crazy, but we're back in April now. We are accepting clients right now.
