SPEAKER_01:Andrew, is pot worse than alcohol? Oh, what a what a good basic question. I mean, I think we're we're maybe not on the same page.
SPEAKER_00:Damn, they brought up alcohol with Andrew Huberman as a guest. I think the host is gonna regret this because we're about to watch a man that doesn't back down. He's got pressure from the host, from the two guests, and the audience, yet he still manages to deliver the message that people need to hear, not the message they want to hear. And in fact, this video was so good that I almost feel like they should show it to teenagers on how to deal with peer pressure, especially when people are making a big joke out of something that kills 90,000 Americans every single year. Respect to Andrew Huberman for how he handled this.
SPEAKER_01:With that, I think your view is proceed with caution, and mine is I'm high right now.
SPEAKER_00:I mean, it's pretty funny, but already we can see that they are making jokes out of taking drugs. So we can guess how this is going to unfold. Oof. I mean, Huberman laughed, but look at his face. He is not impressed. Alcohol's worse than pot.
SPEAKER_02:Everything, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Basically, isn't alcohol worse than everything?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. Zero alcohol is better than any. Right. Two drinks maximum for an adult non-alcoholic per week.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, he's delivering some pretty crazy statistics. Although I disagree that two drinks per week is okay. The same way that two cigarettes per week is not okay. It's still a group one carcinogen. It's the same as asbestos and tobacco. But either way, just watch how he handles this.
SPEAKER_02:It's now the upper threshold. Week. Per week. Week. What you can do without starting to increase your look, it's even it's not even that funny the way he reacts. Risk for cancer, increase your you know, about five percent of all business week.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I mean, it's just not that funny.
SPEAKER_01:Wow. Weekend exemption. Weekend exemption.
SPEAKER_02:Thank you.
SPEAKER_00:I mean, drinking's at an all-time low. Um and you can see the guest already chiming in. You get an exemption.
SPEAKER_02:I think it's because people realize that yes, it helps you fall asleep, but your sleep is super lousy. It messes up your gut microbiome. So he's not backing down. I'm not a teetotaler. I really think that people should do as they wish, but know what they're doing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. So notice how he said it. He said, I think people should do what they wish, but they should know what they're doing. And the problem is, is that the government guidelines don't talk about the dangers of drinking. We get a recommended daily allowance. We get told to drink responsibly, but we never get told by the alcohol companies or by the government that it's a group one carcinogen. We don't get told the real data. He knows this because he's a scientist. But I almost feel like this whole setup was we've got, you know, the good guys that are on your side who are the hosts and the guests and the audience, and then we've got this evil scientist that's trying to take away our fun. It's almost like a a bit of a show, but he still delivers the message. He doesn't back down. He could have easily just said, let's just move on to the next topic. But he doesn't. I got a lot of respect for Andrew Huberman after watching this.
SPEAKER_02:In terms of increasing your risk of cancer, especially for women and breast cancer, right? It's it's unequivocal. And there's yet another study this week that shows that even moderate drinking is is bad.
SPEAKER_00:Yep, absolutely. Which is why it's a little bit sad that he says that he's not a teetotaler. With all the scientific evidence that's mounted in front of him, he still chooses to drink. But it's his decision. I just think that the risk of even drinking a few drinks per week increases the risk of addiction that absolutely cancels out anything. There are people out there that might smoke one or two crack pipes a week. We don't hold those people in high regard. But anyway.
SPEAKER_02:If you enjoy drinking, just limit it and do a bunch of other things like get your morning sunlight, get your exercise, eat well to offset to offset the damage you're doing. How many drinks do you have a day?
SPEAKER_00:And just look at everybody sniggering and laughing and the guest, like, I honestly, I wonder if these laughs are fake. I don't know if there's an audience here, but whatever. Apparently, way too many. Another joke. It's just not that funny. I love you for the information, but you're depressing the hell out of me. So look, it's like we're on your side if you drink, and here's the here's the scientist that's boring and not that much fun. What a sad little setup that is.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. And what about uh hypothetically asking for a friend? Um what about someone who like uh like I don't I'm uh drink a lot now, but like in the past.
SPEAKER_00:Everybody always says they don't drink a lot now. I've heard that so many times.
SPEAKER_01:Like uh the uh because I feel like the human body really is amazingly resilient, the way you you can, you know, do things in your past, and then it it you know, once you stop doing them, you're you're pretty good, no? Yeah, oh good.
SPEAKER_00:You know, I almost feel like the jokes are made to soften the blow. I feel like it's actually scripted, to be honest. And they've practiced it beforehand before going live on air. I think this is live, I'm not sure. I've never watched this show in my life, and I never would. I'll just like Andrew Huberman. And when someone sent me this clip, I knew I had to share it with you guys because he handles it so well. But you can see how everybody's laughing and agreeing with the host or agreeing with these little jokes, but Huberman just doesn't back down.
SPEAKER_01:Every um singer have a have a future, every saint has a past. Yeah, but I mean if if that's true, then why not? I feel like I always like, you know.
SPEAKER_00:Oh, hang on. Now he's going, well, if that's true, then why not? What he's basically saying is, why not keep drinking? You see the way that he meandered around that point that he wanted to make of why not just keep drinking? He was very careful with how he delivered that. It's sad.
SPEAKER_01:Did as much as my body would allow me to. When my body let me have 25 drinks a week, I did.
SPEAKER_00:Listen, I'm I'm just when my body allowed me to have 25 drinks a week. Your body was never designed to have 25 drinks a week. You're just a bit younger and resilient. But I just think he's trying to not piss off his audience and get them to turn off the TV. You gotta think about the incentives here. So Huberman's got the incentive of promoting scientific factual information, and the host, all he really cares about is people not turning off his show. So it's kind of sad, but at least Huberman just didn't back down.
SPEAKER_02:Much different impact in your 20s and 30s. Right. Um, in part because of the way that sleep becomes more and more important for maintaining brain function and bodily function.
SPEAKER_00:And Huberman's last point was only related to sleep, and it's way deeper than that. It's not just that it affects your sleep later on in life, of course that's a factor. But also he didn't say that people tend to drink more over time. But anyway, I think Huberman absolutely nailed it. Thanks for checking out the Stop Drinking podcast by Soberclear.
