Hitting Rock Bottom Without Excuses
SPEAKER_00When I stopped drinking alcohol almost eight years ago, my life was in a pretty bad place. Alcohol had caused so much pain that I had destroyed a business. I uh destroyed a romantic relationship. I drank so much once that I threw up blood on a computer. Alcohol had caused tremendous amounts of pain for almost 10 years. And then when I finally sobered up eight years ago, my life was still in pieces. I was borrowing money from a family member, I was living in a friend's place because I had no money. I was working in a restaurant after trying to get a graduate job in London and failing at it. And I was back at square one. And to sober up for eight years and have no desire to drink, I had to make an awful lot of changes. But there are really two that stood out. And today I'm going to break them down for you because I want you to get to a place where you don't want to drink. I want you to be in that state of mind where you can truly take it or leave it, but you always choose to leave it. That's where I am. I can drink if I want to. I've been able to drink for eight years. I haven't touched a drop because I have no desire. I don't resist the urge. I don't fight the urge. It's just a natural part of my life. And I've now shown this to millions of people on this YouTube channel. I've worked with hundreds of private clients showing them how to do it because it really boils down to two simple changes.
Why Willpower Eventually Breaks
SPEAKER_00The first change. Now, the first change all comes down to the way that you view alcohol. Now that sounds simple, but it will all make sense. So if you want to stop drinking alcohol and you have this paradigm, and this paradigm says that alcohol is a beneficial thing, it adds value to your life. It helps you with dealing with stress, it helps you socialize, it helps you relax, it helps you do all of these things, and that is how you see alcohol. If you stop drinking alcohol with this worldview, is it gonna be easy? Are you gonna be able to say no when all your friends look like they're having a good time and they've all got a beer in their hand? Are you gonna be able to say no? Well, you probably will be able to say no, but eventually, what are you gonna do that day when you're tired? When you've had an argument with your spouse and you're in the pub and then all your friends are there? What are you gonna do that day that you get bad news and a family member passes away? See, when you see alcohol as something that adds value to your life, you need to use willpower time and time again. I promise you one thing. One day, that willpower will not be there. Something will have happened. You'll just be in that mood where you're just like, I can't handle life today. And guess what happens? Because you still see alcohol as a solution to your problems, as something that will help you get through them. One day you'll look at that drink and think, okay, I'll have one. Now listen, don't get me wrong, there are people out there who use willpower and never drink ever again, but it's few and far between. I mean, I tried to do this a hundred plus times. I tried to do it time and time again, it never worked. And in fact, what would happen, because I still had alcohol in this pedestal where I saw it as this great thing that would fix all my problems. I wasn't drinking, I wasn't drinking, I wasn't drinking. Then the day that I finally drank, I was drinking more than I was before I'd stopped drinking with willpower.
Reframing Alcohol As Pure Cost
SPEAKER_00See, when you stop seeing alcohol as this beneficial thing that helps you, and you really see it for what it is, right? You peel back the layers, you see it as poisonous substance that adds nothing to your life, this ethanol, this disgusting thing that if you drink it, it can cause cancer, it can destroy relationships, it can do so many bad things. We know this, but we don't always see it this way. So this is the first change you need to make. You need so much certainty here, so much certainty that alcohol adds nothing. Absolutely nothing. Because we live in a world that will tell you that that is not true. You'll turn on the TV, you'll see an advertisement, you'll walk past an alcohol aisle, you'll hear friends say that, yeah, let's go for a drink, let's have a good time. You're going to get so much information that alcohol is a good thing. So unless you're 100% clear that that poison adds nothing to your life, stopping drinking will always be a challenge. Now I am so sure that alcohol adds nothing to my life that there's no fighting. It's it was this switch one day where there was a, you know, this 10-year battle trying to stop, doing whatever people around me were doing, AA meetings, just saying no, whatever it was, until I fixed that worldview, I kept going back to the drink. And it was getting worse and worse. So this is the first big change. Now, how can you do it? Well,
First Principles And New Inputs
SPEAKER_00you use first principles thinking, right? You break the problem down into its component parts, you study it, you really just get alternative worldviews. How can you do that? Well, I can coach you through that. You could work with me directly. If you click the link down below, you can fill in an application and schedule a call, and we can see if that approach could work for you. You can also read books. You can read my new book, The 48 Hour Alcohol Reset. If you go on Amazon and search the 48 Hour Alcohol Reset, you can grab a copy of that. But it's all about bringing in new information, bringing in new worldviews, new paradigms, and fixing this idea that alcohol adds value in your
Build A Vision You Move Towards
SPEAKER_00life. Now, the second change. So you could fix your worldview and not drink alcohol for the rest of your life. And a year may pass, two years may pass, but nothing changes. You look around and you're still in the same shape. Your relationship is okay, your business is all right. And that's when that little voice in your head can pick up, it can peek up, you know, out of nowhere, this idea of, hmm, you know, why don't we just have one or two? Maybe it's gonna be okay this time. Well, how can we defeat that? Even if you're 100% convinced that alcohol adds nothing. You need something to go towards. You need a vision. You need a future that you're channeling yourself towards, and you need this vision of how life could look without alcohol. So, this is something that I did early on in my journey. When I stopped drinking alcohol, I knew that I couldn't just keep doing what I was doing. I knew that if I kept living that same life, then I just knew I had to do something else. And I had always had this vision to have an online business, to be able to travel and to work from anywhere.
Change Your Environment To Change Belief
SPEAKER_00And what I did is I booked this one-way flight to Thailand. I went to Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand, where I knew lots of people were living the dream that I wanted. And it just so happened that I met this person, then this person, then this person. And before you know it, I'm making videos about not drinking alcohol. I'm helping a lot of people, I'm doing what I wanted to do. And what made the big difference and the big change that I made that really started to help things materialize was just changing my environment. It was going somewhere else. And it was really seeing other people live the vision that I had for my life, and then me realizing it's possible. Like I can do this. As long as I don't drink and stay focused and just kind of step into this new version of me, I can do it. And there was this shift of belief. When you're around those people who are doing what you want, you start to realize it's 100% possible. Like I can do this. So one of the biggest changes you can make is doing this. It's changing your environment. It's getting around other people who are doing what you want. And I've done this so many times. I did it when I started making sober clear stuff. I got around coaches, people who were doing an online business with coaching. And I'm about to transition to a new phase of my life. So my wife is pregnant, it's not going to be long now. And the life that I've been living up until this point, it's been amazing. I'm so grateful for it. But it's not the vision I have for a family. So we just came back from England. We travelled all over England. We
Updating Your Vision For The Long Run
SPEAKER_00went from Scotland all the way down to the south because I have this vision for a family life where we're outdoors, where we're going camping, bike riding, playing in mud, not playing around on screens, not being in a big city filled with I mean, it's just not for me. I've got this vision for what I want in a family life. So we went to England and really just, you know, scoped out the whole area. And when I was there, we met somebody who owned an Airbnb. So we owned this farm that's not operational. And D had these cottages. And the cottages he'd rent out because it's in this really nice place in Devon in the south of England. So we went to stay in one of these cottages and then I met the owner. And the owner was uh was explaining like he'd moved his family uh from Scotland, they've come to Devon, they bought this place because he wants all the things that I was talking about: no screens, outdoor living, family life, dogs, animals, etc. And I've now come back home, I'm home now, and I feel that fire again. It's like the vision is back. So I know exactly what I need to do to make that a reality, and I've seen somebody else doing what I want. And by going and changing my environment, by taking a flight, going to another country, and really just spending three weeks building a vision, I've now come back and my energy is good. Like I feel like let's get to it. I mean, I'm literally two hours off the plane, I'm back home and I'm making this video because I'm motivated. I see now the vision of where I want things to go. And this is an ongoing process when you stop drinking alcohol as well. You'll need to keep updating your vision because you'll get to a place that in a year you'll say, Okay, I want to be in this shape, I want to make this much money, I want my family life to be this way. And in a year, you'll be there. And you'll be surprised at what you can get accomplished when you don't drink. And then in a year, you'll need a new vision. You'll be thinking, all right, well, what's next? And when you don't drink, you need to be going towards something. I mean, it's it's good to be grateful, it's good to be in the present moment, it's good to really just look at things and be happy and content, but you need something else. You need to be always going towards a better version of you. Because running away from the pain of alcohol and the negative things that used to happen in the past, it can get you sober. But if you want to live the next 20, 30, 40 years of your life where you're happy, you're healthy, you're not drinking alcohol, you're setting an example to the people around you, you need things to go towards. So if you can take anything from this video today, sure, reframe how you view alcohol,
