Now, before y'all answer, before I answer, let me get into it. Let me get into it. So recently on Cam Newton's podcast, he made a statement suggesting that a woman's value decreases the more children she has. After a question was asked to him, do you think a woman's value lowers the more kids they have with multiple women? I mean multiple men, Laura. And that was his answer. And he even stated that he told one of his babe moms that if her Nets boyfriend does not love her and the five kids she has, then that is not the one for her. Which I agree on that part, because if you don't love me and my kid, you not for me and my kid. We don't need to be together. Kids. But what I don't agree on is that a woman's value decreases the more kids they have because a woman's value should never be reduced to her to her womb. And having children doesn't decrease a woman's value. If anything, motherhood often mother motherhood often builds resilience, emotional intelligence, and strength. Absolutely.

Do More Kids Lower A Woman’s Value?

If you are a single man, if you put yourself in the male shoes, or even if you're a female and you're date and you're a lesbian, you're looking for another woman, if you are one individual person and you go after somebody with kids, that's that one person plus all the mouths of their kids. Like you are responsible for that whole household. She got respectfully, no. I mean, I get that. I mean, and listen, this is somebody I have a partner with children. Right. I cannot have children. So, like, I have no problem with it. But at the same time, if I was somebody, like a lot of people that I know that had children when they were younger and they have multiple children by different people and can't keep a relationship, why are you still looking? You have children. Take care of your children. I mean, yeah, take care of your children, but also at the end of the day, I'm gonna shut up on that point. But also, this goes for men too. So the more men have kids with women, you know, it they value decreases if the arm value decreases as well. So it's it's situational because I'm putting me you don't believe in double standards. No, really. Uh he got, let's say, five kids. Of course, first you're gonna be like, damn, none of you got five kids? Oh, hell no. But when you learn out that he has been married and he and his wife are divorced, or she had cancer and she passes away, you look at it differently. So you can't say that man's value is low because you don't know, it's all about the quality of the person, and that's where it is with me. So even with the woman, it's the same exact thing. Like it really is a situational. Every woman that has seven kids doesn't mean she has seven different baby fathers, it doesn't mean that the kid's dad is not in the lives, it doesn't mean the next person she's with is not financially able to take care of those seven kids because he knew from the jump I got seven kids. Right. And her life didn't stop when those kids came. I mean, she knew that, and she's still a person, or he's still a person. And usually people who have kids date people with kids. So it might not even be a single person aiming for somebody with a lot of kids. And they might be in the same boat, so they understand each other. I be so offended when because you know I'm single, so I'll be talking to niggas or whatever, right? I'll be so offended. I be talking about niggas or whatever. Well, when I tell them, I proceed to tell them that I don't have no kids, and then you proceed to tell me you got three. SPEAKER_06Uh we think beauty standards are just trends, but they come from culture and they shape our identity. In the US, we're told to be ourselves, but everybody still chases the same look. Right? In the nineties, it was super thick.
Beauty Standards: Identity, Aging, And Anxiety
SPEAKER_06Eyebrows, the flat irons, burning your hair, the baby blue eyeshadow, low rider jeans, the uh listen, yes. All of it. Now it's lash extensions, BBL bodies, the clean girl, the slick bun, the filled lips, the waist trainer, gym girl bodies, right? It changes with each generation. So different decades have the same pressure. Editing pics before you post it, saving for surgery before saving for a car. People are scared to age past 30. And these are all because of beauty standards. Shit. Girls are comparing themselves to influences that they'll never meet. And that's a word right there. Because how often do you go on social media and you scroll down social media and you're like, I wish I could. Dang, if my and it's all of this, I don't know if it would be considered envious behavior, but it's all of this looking at something that you might not be able to obtain, and all in all, it's make you not like yourself. So we compare ourselves to what we see every day when the same face and body show up everywhere. Our brain thinks that that is normal, and brute beauty trends change, but insecurity stays the same. Honest facts. So an individualistic see, I ain't fuck it up that time. Cultures like ours, beauty feels like it's a job. If you don't look good, it feels like it's your fault. If you didn't try hard enough, or you didn't work hard enough, or you didn't buy the right products, there's something wrong with you. You got the the diets before vacations, people hiding their acne with filters. I have hyperpigmentation in my skin and I hide it with either a tinted moisturizer or a filter all the time. Because my grandfather is albino, so there's light patches in my skin when I don't wear nothing at all. And nobody, nine times out of ten, don't know that. You got something on? Yeah, I got something on my own. You know, you got it's a tinted moisturizer. I sure the fuck do. So women crying in dressing rooms, people are scared to be seen without makeup at work. Girls are deleting pictures because they don't like their friends. Their friends. Yes, they don't like their friends. When your friends look better than you and you want to crop them out the picture, girls is doing this.

SPEAKER_06That's the whole thing. Back in the 90s, we used to take uh different pictures of girls on the walls. Now girls are screenshotting influencers and creating Pinterest boards and saving Pinterest boards of what they want or what they want to look like. I want her lips, but I want her hair. Right? So when worth gets tied to looks, your brain connects beauty with acceptance. That creates anxiety and low self-esteem. When beauty equals worth, aging feels like it's a failure. I don't know how many of y'all are at 30 or past 30, but I wasn't excited to turn 30 until my best friend put it in a way to where it's like the next chapter of her life. Where it's like now, okay, you've learned all your lessons in your 20s, now you're in your 30s, and it's time to apply what you learned. And until she put it to me like that, I feel like 30 I was going down. I'm going down. And I don't know why, but that's how my mind was. And I guess it's from like the outside influences that I had. So in collectivist cultures, they push beauty differently. It's less about standing out and more about fitting in. So you do not embarrass your family or your community. That's what it's all about. Not embarrassing your family or your community. So your family will say, stay out of the sun so you don't get darker. They pressure you to straighten your natural hair for weddings so it doesn't look naffy. Uh being told to lose weight before meeting someone's parents, hiding tattoos from your relatives with long-sleeve shirts and turtlenecks. Or dressing modestly so people don't talk. Specifically, when you go meet somebody's parents, you got on something that you wouldn't typically wear, but you want to dress nice for their family. Happens all the time. But people change how they look to avoid judgment, and that creates a sense of belonging, but it also creates a sense of fear of being yourself. In some places, beauty is a trend, and others it's a rule. In Korea and other places in in Asia, they like small features, petite features. They like paler skin. Um remember, I don't know if y'all have ever heard of this, but like for a long time, you if your feet were over a certain size, it was unattractive. So they were like breaking the girls. Yes, like beauty in other countries is dangerous. Yeah. So all of this shapes identity. Women start watching themselves all day, how they look when they sit down, how they look when they laugh, how they look when they're aging, not going swimming because of your stretch marks or your razor bumps. Skipping events because you got a breakout or a pimple, comparing your body to whoever else's body is in the gym, buying clothes that you can't afford just to feel normal and fit in. Back when we were in the 90s and we were growing up, girls used to worry about being too fat. But now it's changed to where everybody wants to be thick in the right places. So it's the same exact anxiety, just a new shape. When people constantly judge their own looks, they start seeing themselves as objects instead of people. That leads to shame, eating issues, depression, body dysmorphia. And if beauty is a full-time job, when do women get to just live? So I got a closing thought for y'all. Culture teaches us what beauty looks like before we even know who we are. It shapes our confidence, our dating lives, our money choices, and even our mental health. So my reflection question for this week is what beauty rules did you grow up with in the 90s or early 2000s? And are are you still following them without realizing it? Always wear earrings. But I don't do that. Always wear earrings is a big one for me. Like my family, they always get on me every time they see me.

I get that but it's kinda it's kinda like you gotta be glistening type of thing. They want you to shine bright like a diamond. No, right.

So now, as I got older, for me, a beauty standard or something that's in the back of my head is I always gotta match. If I don't match, it's ugly. And I hate that because not matching nowadays is a thing. Wearing different patterns is a thing, wearing a random pop of color is a thing, but I will literally sit there and make myself anxious trying to find something that matches perfectly and not wearing clothes for years because I can't find anything to match with it. Fucked up. So like for me, I'm sure I said it earlier, but like I said, I grew up with a mother who's very Christian, everything.
SPEAKER_09So it was like boom, bathing suit, you're gonna wear a cover, even in the water. Cause for one, for her, it was like, oh, you're developing too early.
SPEAKER_06Now it was more so for me, I'm like, well, this is my body, so you're making me feel uncomfortable. And then there was a certain situation in life to where it was like I had a quote unquote stepbrother.
SPEAKER_09Um, I broke my arm, I didn't have my sling on, and then also I had on a dress that the lady that my dad was actually dating gave to me.
SPEAKER_06And to my mom, I looked grown, quote unquote.
SPEAKER_09So with that, it was like growing up, and even to this day, I kind of do struggle with like body dysmorphia itself because I've been skinny as fuck. I'm my biggest, fat as hell. But then it's like there's moments where I look at myself like, hey, I could tone up here or I could do this, that, da-da-da. But for the longest itself, when it comes to situations like how you spoke on, that always just depicted on what others thought of me. You know?
SPEAKER_06And I had to understand literally at the age of fucking 16, like, hey, it don't matter what the fuck y'all think. At the end of the day, this is my life, it's how I feel. Motherfucker, if I wanna fucking eat, I'm gonna eat. If I wanna drink, I'm gonna drink. And of course, we know with those two situations, you're gonna gain a little bit of weight.

Your body, you know, she is curvy for a small girl, but it's just like certain things you gotta wear, like something that's like covering your hoo-ha, not like accentuating it, you know. So it's a thin line. Yeah, and I mean, it's like, is it a beauty standard? And it again, now it goes to the conversation we were having earlier about sexualizing because I want her to be comfortable, and if that's what she likes to wear, like she looks so cute in her outfits.
