Into the World - Ps. Kevin Loo

Wat betekent het eigenlijk om als volgeling van Jezus te leven in een wereld die vaak heel anders denkt, voelt en kiest dan het Koninkrijk van God?

In deze preek neemt Ps. Kevin Loo je mee naar Johannes 17, waar Jezus bidt voor Zijn discipelen vlak voordat Hij naar het kruis gaat. Jezus bidt niet dat Zijn volgelingen uit de wereld worden weggehaald, maar dat zij beschermd, geheiligd en opnieuw gezonden worden. Dat ene gebed laat zien wat het betekent om “in de wereld, maar niet van de wereld” te zijn.

Aan de hand van herkenbare voorbeelden, humor en diepe geestelijke inzichten ontdek je dat christen-zijn niet bedoeld is om binnen de veilige muren van de kerk te blijven. De kerk is belangrijk, maar het echte leven van geloof wordt zichtbaar op maandag: op je werk, op school, in je gezin, in je stad en in je dagelijkse keuzes.

Je hoort hoe Jezus het stokje overdraagt aan Zijn volgelingen, net als bij een estafette. Het gaat niet alleen om ontvangen, maar ook om doorgeven. Niet alleen om gezegend worden, maar ook om tot zegen zijn. Niet alleen om geloof belijden, maar om zichtbaar anders te leven door de liefde, waarheid en kracht van God.

Deze boodschap is voor iedereen die verlangt naar een geloof dat verder gaat dan zondag. Voor iedereen die wil groeien in discipelschap, impact wil maken en wil ontdekken hoe Jezus ons roept om Zijn liefde tastbaar te maken in de wereld.

Okay, some of you are like me. Misschien ben je zoals ik. I watch YouTube. Dan kijk ik YouTube. And uh I watch all silly YouTube. En ik kijk allemaal domme filmpjes. There are some YouTube I like to watch before I go to bed.

Or I like people cutting salmon. Of mensen die zalm snijden. How many of you know what I'm talking about? Wie weet waar ik het over heb? The Japanese chef there cutting the sushi. Die sushi snijden. Maybe it's not a good idea because after I watch it, I get hungry. Misschien is het niet zo'n goed idee, anders krijg ik honger. But actually, among all these videos, my favorite video is the Olympics.

And it's exciting. And dat is geweldig. You know, because my wife and I, we used to be runners when we were at school.

When you run four times 100 meter, you have to learn to pass the button. Dus als je 4 keer 100 meter loopt, moet je het stokje doorgeven. And then you have to receive it and then keep running. And then the winning team is not just about how fast you run, but how well you pass the button. And it gaat niet alleen over de snelheid, maar ook hoe goed je het overdraagt. Oh, I love it. Even now, I think about it, I get excited. And zelfs nu word ik er enthousiast van. Because when you see Jamaica, when they run the 400 4x100 meter with Usain bolt, man, it's like a well-oiled machine. So fast.

And uh it helps me sleep good. And it helps me omit te slapen. Because I think life is perfect. Why do I want to talk to you about four times one hundred meter? Waarom wil ik praten over 4 keer 100 meter? Because in the scripture, not in het woord, there's a passage in the Bible where Jesus passed the baton to the disciples. And I want to take you to the gospel of John, chapter 17.

And we will kijken naar Johannes hoofdstuk 17.

And now, verse 13. Maybe I have my brother to read. Verse 13 to verse 19.

Vers 13 tot 19, maar nu kom ik naar u toe and spreek dit in de wereld, omdat zij ten volle mijn leidschap in zichzelf hebben. En ik heb hen uw woord gegeven, en de wereld heeft hen gehaald. Omdat zij niet van de wereld zijn, zoals ik niet van deze wereld ben. En ik bid dat u hen niet uit deze wereld wegneemt, maar dat u hebben waar voor de bozen. Zij zijn niet van de wereld, zoals ik niet van de wereld ben. Uw woord is de waarheid. Zoals u mij in de wereld gezonden hebt, heb ik ook hen in de wereld gezonden.

Johannes 17 is een gebed van Jesus. Because he was preparing for his departure. Want hij bereid zich voor voor zijn vertrek. Because from John chapter 13 onwards, after Jesus washed the disciples' feet.

And so you have to imagine that moment. Dus je moet dat momentje voorstellen. The disciples hebben alles opgegeven om Hem to volgen. They have sold their boats.

They have left their tax collecting a business.

Ze hebben hun zaken, hun bedrijven vergeten om Jezus te volgen.

And you have to remember: when the disciples sold the boat, they sold everything.

Dat was niet de moment in the tijd waarin je kon kiezen what you did.

And zijn vader was een viser, but zijn opa een fisher was. So, when they sold their boats to follow Jesus, they have sold everything that they know.

Dus toen zij een boot verkocht om Jezus te volgen, verkochten ze alles wat ze hadden.

And so now you can imagine the atmosphere is very tense. If Jesus is leaving. Als Jezus weggaat, I have no more boats. It's going to be tough. And so Jesus was praying. And then they heard Jesus prayed. And they heard Jesus bidden. And now, this is a very important part I want us to know.

And this is a belangrijk deal.

But he prayed that all of us will have the joy that was with him in us.

What joy is he talking about? Welke vreugde heeft hij over? Jesus is not about it's not talking about happiness that is circumstantial.

Because otherwise, we think Jesus is losing his mind. And then in verse 14. It says, I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. So, there are a few things we need to see what this prayer is all about.

And vanwege het feit dat we allemaal zijn geboren, zijn we allemaal in deze wereld.

You bent here. You heb niet gekozen om hier te zijn. Your mom and dad got married, and then you were born. Your ouders zijn geboren. It's nice. You are born Dutch, you are taller. I have not seen anyone taller than me. You have to niemand gezien die klein is. Ever since I reached the Netherlands. But but yeah, it may not be your choice, you choose to be here, but you are born and you are here. And it is geen keuze that you hier bent. By virtue that you and I are here. And for the fact that you here bent, there are things that we need to do. If you are a student, how many students here I have this morning? If you are a student, you have no choice, you have to go to school. Wait till you go to work. And some of us have to go to work. And some of us moeten work. And then after that, we got married. And then we have to take care of our family.

We have to provide for them.

We have ups and downs. So that's the reality of who we are. It doesn't matter whether you follow Jesus or not. Life is the same. Something different, I'll talk about later.

And so you realize after becoming a Jesus, you still have challenges.

It's still not easy.

But that's the reality of because we are here on earth.

The world hates you because you have the word. This has been told to us 2000 years ago. That zei Jezus 2000 jaar geleden al. But then it says, why they don't like us? Because they know that we are in the world, but not of the world.

And they zegt, Waarom haat het ons?

When we receive the word of God. Wanneer wij het Word van God ontvangen. When we receive Jesus. Wanneer we Jesus ontvangen. When we receive the Holy Spirit in our lives. Wanneer we de Heilige Geest in ons leven ontvangen. Dan begint het Word van God ons te veranderen.

Zodat we wel in the world zijn, maar niet van deze wereld.

The world does not hate us because of who we are. Number one. Number 1. When you receive the word of God. The Bible tells us it's more blessed to give than to receive. This is totally contrary to the world.

The world says the more you have, the happier you become.

Own more, buy more, have more.

SPEAKER_01 13:28

But the translation to English.

SPEAKER_00 13:33

But Jesus says it's more blessed to give than to receive. So when you and I start to walk with Jesus, we begin to learn this.

And they delen veel over financiën and verschillende dingen, and daar hou ik van.

Why? Waarom? Because the ultimate aim of walking with Jesus, being a follower of Jesus, is that it becomes a way of life for every one of us every day. And then you also learn that love is found in giving, not getting. And then it gets harder and harder. Are you guys okay? And then Jesus says, You have to learn to go the extra mile. And then Jezus zegt: Je moet leren om een extra stapje te zetten. What is the extra mile? What is that? Hoe zet je dat extra stapje? Extra mile is after you finish the first mile.

Als je morgen moet werken.

If you work from 9 to 5. Als je werkt van 9 tot 5. 9 to 5 is your first mile. 9 tot 5 is de eerste stap. Staying back is extra mile.

If you cannot even go to work on time.

It's not even the first mile. Dan is het niet je eerste stapje zelfs.

So, these are the values of the scripture that you have to learn to go the extra money.

You got to learn to love your enemies.

Some of us vinden het moeilijk om van hun familie te houden. And om van je vijand te houden is niet eens.

Sometimes you think about their name, you're upset.

Soms denk je alleen aan de naam wat je boos is. Maar de Bijbel leert ons om van onze vijanden te houden. De volgende. We moeten leren om Hem te vertrouwen. Ik ben een voorganger. Want dit is het werk van God. Het is het geen business, geen zaak. Je weet niet waar de collecte vandaan komt.

Je kan mensen niet dwingen om meer te verkopen. E-commerce.

It's about people learning to walk with God and trust God and give what they want to give to God.

Het gaat erom dat je mensen leert leven wandelen met God en ze kunnen geven wat ze willen geven. Als de kerk het goed doet en je hebt genoeg geld, dan voel je dat je geslaagd bent. En het volgende jaar is misschien compleet anders. De manieren van God in het woord.

Dan moet je leren om je meesters te dienen zoals je de Heer dient.

The Bible just says, serve your masters as you serve the Lord. And so the reality is we are in the world, we are not of the world because we have a different standard of life altogether. So, what do we do? Dus wat doen we? So we look at the Bible. We kijken naar het woord. Vers 15. Jesus continue praying. Jezus gaat verder met bidden.

Ik bid dat u hem niet uit de wereld haalt, maar dat u ze beschermt tegen de boze. Jezus die bad niet dat als je hem ontmoet, dat je dan vervolgens uit de wereld gaat en je niet met uitdagingen hoeft te dealen. Je wordt niet uit deze wereld weggenomen, maar Jezus bid dat je beschermd wordt. And that is wat het betekent om niet in de wereld te zijn. Ofwel in de wereld, maar niet van de wereld.

But that's not the end of Jesus' prayer.

Alright, in verse 16, they say they are not of the world, even as I am not of it.

In ver 16 staat er: ze zijn niet van de wereld, zoals ik niet van deze wereld ben.

Sanctify them by the truth, your word is the truth.

Dus terwijl je niet in de wereld bent, wel in de wereld, maar niet van de wereld, bid Jezus dat je wordt geheiligd door de waarheid van het word.

The third part in verse 18 is this: as God sent Jesus into the world, I have sent them into the world. So that when you are sent into the world. That you are not just supposed to be in the world. You are not just supposed to be not of the world. But after you've been transformed by the word of God, you have to be sent back into the world.

Dus daarom is het belangrijk om te begrijpen dat het niet alleen gaat over dat je in de wereld bent, maar dat je ook weer opnieuw wordt uitgezonden in de wereld. Three parts. Drie onderdelen.

The first part you are in the world. It's not a choice. It's geen keuze. Imagine you here. Stel je voor, je bent. So you are in the world. You bind in the world. I don't know Jesus. I don't know God. Ik ken God niet. My life has problems. I have a lot of challenges. Ik heb heel veel uitdagingen. And then I step into the work of the kingdom of God. So now I'm in the world, but I am not of the world. It's like a factory. The factory called the church. And the fabriek heet the kerk. The community of the believers. I'm being changed. I'm being sharpened. I'm being tested. And I word veranded and I word get test. So I become better. Dus ik word beter. It doesn't mean I have no problems. It betek niet dat ik geen problemen heb. I still have challenges. But the Holy Spirit is at work on the inside of me. But the Heilige Geest is in the mind. But the problem is this. We are not supposed to stay in the church. We are not just supposed to stay here.

We zijn niet alleen bedoeld om here to blijf.

We cannot just hope oh every week I just want to go to church.

We can niet alleen maar bidden and zeggen, oké, defend our service Jesus.

She is just a person working with the radio. Zij is gewoon iemand die bij de radio werkt. And Martha doesn't know me. And Martha kent mij niet. I'm just a caller. Ik ben gewoon iemand die belt. But when I have Jesus in my life.

Wanneer je opnieuw de wereld ingezonden wordt, dan is je wereld misschien niet ideal. Er zijn uitdagingen. Je gaat naar je werk, daar heb je politiek in. Maar nu ben je niet van de wereld. Je hebt het woord van God ontvangen. Wat doe je tomorrow, when you go back to office.

I used to live a double life. It was slecht. When I was in school op school was, I was very vulgar. I cursed and I swear all the time. But then when I came to church on Sunday. For many years I lived like that.

For veel jaren leef ik zo op die manier.

People, my friends, do not know. Like, oh, you go to church on Sunday. But you are swearing more than us.

And I slowly allow God to work in my life to change me and to transform me.

And I did God toe on me to veranderen and to transformer.

When we come to church on Sunday, when we study the word of God in our small group, when we go to a prayer meeting, whatever we experience, it is not supposed to stay here.

The real test is tomorrow if people know you have Jesus in your life.

In een stad die niet zo groot is. De impact die wij kunnen hebben in deze stad is enorm. En gaat naar je werk terug. Wees een getuige voor Jezus.
