We live in a world damaged by evil. Where there is no justice. That is true justice that is given equally regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, economic status or position in community.

Our reality is that there is only true justice in God’s kingdom. His Kingdom is a place of equality and respect, truth and justice, peace and harmony, restoration and healing, freedom for the captives and liberty for the oppressed. Jesus brings this reality here on earth into this world damaged by evil.

For only God can determine true justice for only God is just, good and true. For there is no selfishness, evil or lies in Him.

There is coming a time when the fullness of God’s kingdom will reign throughout the entire cosmos. Jesus, the king of God’s kingdom is coming back to bring true justice. To make everything right. Heaven and earth will become one in perfect harmony and evil will be totally eliminated.

When Jesus, the Son of God walked the earth as the Son of Man, He spoke much about the Kingdom of God and His return.

During that time He had several encounters with those who persecuted Him. Those who refused to receive Him as their king and saviour. In one such encounter, He made an extraordinary statement. He stated that  judgement is entrusted to the Son of Man.

John 5:22-30 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

Here Jesus reveals He and the Father are one. When the Son of God became the Son of Man, He did not loose His divine character. For He is and was and always will be God the Son.

The eternal Father honours the eternal Son and the eternal Son honours the eternal Father.

Honour in this context means to place value upon. Even in Jesus’ humanity, He placed the highest value onto doing the Father’s will. The Father placed the highest value on Jesus in honouring of Him. In honour of the Son of God becoming the Son of Man, the Father has committed judgment to Him.

In the culture of the time, to have the same honour as the Father is to claim equality with the Father. In this instance Jesus not only stated He has equal honour with God, but equal authority.

Let us read verses 22-23 again. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

The Father honours the Son by committing judgment to Him. So those who do not honour the Son and receive His right to rule and reign dishonour the Father.

God in Jesus has placed the highest value on us and honoured us with His human life, death and resurrection. Jesus is coming back for all who honoured Him by having received Him. Received His sacrifice as saviour and His right to rule and reign as king.

That is how we place the highest value on God’s sacrifice for us. By saying yes to Jesus and giving our allegiance to Him and the Father. Worship only Him. In honouring Jesus as saviour and king, we honour the Father and His gift of Himself to us.

Jesus revealed that honour and judgement are intertwined. Let us continue on as Jesus assures us of our inheritance.

Verse 24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

In honouring God and His right to rule and reign, we shall not come into judgment. We are passed from death to life.

The giver of life itself gives life everlasting. A perfect life that has no end. Life that is above time. Never aging, never gets sick and will never die. Where we will physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually live in the fulfilment of God’s kingdom. In the glory, majesty and splendour of the eternal one, for all eternity.

In Verse 25 Jesus states, …the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.

Jesus assures us that the appointed time of His coming had come at that moment. Where anyone who hears His voice will live. Jesus is also speaking of His return. When the physically dead will hear His voice and receive His eternal inheritance. Upon Jesus’ return the fullness of God’s kingdom will be realised. Evil will be totally eliminated and death has no power or place.

Remember raising the dead and bringing judgment is God’s domain. For He is just and true. He is the giver of life itself. The eternal one is light and life. Only He has the power and authority to speak light into darkness and life into death. For He alone is the one who created something out of nothing.

Let us continue on.

Verses 26-27 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.

Jesus is now in a resurrected, glorified body that never gets sick, never wears out and never dies. The eternal voice who in the beginning spoke light into darkness, is the Son of God who became the Son of Man. Jesus will return and execute judgment on all who rejected Him. Rejected His sacrifice for humanity as saviour of the world and rejected His right to rule and reign as king.

Jesus is the divine light and Lord of everyone’s destiny. To reject Him is to choose death over life, judgment over honour, darkness over light, bondage over freedom, inequality over equality and injustice over justice. Sadly there are those who knowingly choose to align themselves with anything that is opposed to God.

To receive Jesus, receive God is to choose life over death, honour over judgment, light over darkness, freedom over bondage, equality over inequality and justice over injustice.

In verse 28-29 Jesus puts it simply, the choice is between good and evil.

Verses 28-29 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

Rejecting Jesus and His right to rule and reign is to choose an eternal destiny of condemnation. For this is true justice. Jesus reveals that in rejecting Him is to choose to be one with evil. The conscious choice to reject Jesus, reject God is to do evil.

In this life journey, to never receive Jesus, never receive God is the ultimate offence. It is choosing an eternal destiny of condemnation. To reject Jesus, reject God is to align oneself with pure evil. Ultimately becoming one with the evil one, who not only rejected God and His right to rule and reign but declared war against Him.

Yet God loves with such a pure, selfless love that He does not want anyone to perish. So He paid the highest cost for our salvation. God places the highest value of honour upon us. His honour. The honour of the eternal one who created heaven and earth and all things good. Jesus’ sacrifice is eternal. He is forever in a resurrected, glorified, human body. God gave everything for us to believe and receive. So that each individual can make an informed choice.

Jesus in this passage is making the choice and destiny of that choice very clear.

Those who have received Jesus’ sacrifice and His right to rule and reign throughout the ages, have done good. Our destiny is eternal life. Having chosen Jesus, we are free from any condemnation. We are declared innocent by the one who has the right to judge. God Himself. The only one is who good and true.

Only God is good, only good. For there is no evil in Him. Yet the evil one who has declared war on God and rejected God’s right to rule and reign is pure evil. There is no good in him.

Jesus continues in verse 30. I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

Jesus the Son of Man, still fully divine, He again reveals His honour and surrender to the Father’s will. Jesus in His humanity surrenders His human will to that of the Father’s will. Before that moment in time, God - the Father, Son and Spirit, one God, one Spirit were of one will. Together they created the heavens and the earth. They filled the earth and created a home for humanity to live in perfect harmony. Together with Him. They gave all of themselves to humanity, so that we could believe and receive.

In that moment in human history when the Son of God became the Son of Man, He had a human body and will. Yet He surrendered His human will to that of the divine will of God the Father. In His humanity Jesus did not seek His own will. Jesus not only subjected Himself to the full human condition but to the Father’s will. For it is this very reason He came in human form, to set humanity free. To restore peace and harmony to the universe and all His creation.

As God never takes back what He gives, in the beginning He gave the first man and woman His identity, His power and authority and free choice. They chose to be one with both good and evil, corrupting the created good reproducible seed of humanity. Humanity gave their God given power to rule and reign to their selfish desires, evil and death. So God the Son came in human form to take back the power to rule and reign given to humanity’s selfish desires, evil and death. Representing humanity and representing God, Jesus took back the power given to evil and our selfish desires. He defeated death and the Father raised Jesus up to eternal life in a resurrected glorified human body. So we can rule and reign with Him in all His glory.

The resurrected Jesus declares, in Revelation 22:12-13 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”

Jesus is coming back for us. Immediately at the appointed time of the Father. The Father is waiting for all those who will come to Him to come. Jesus states, My reward is with Me. His life, death, resurrection and eternal inheritance is with Jesus. Praise His mighty name!
