Last week we journeyed through some of the many prophecies about the coming of the king. We saw how in Jesus’ birth, life and death, God turned the darkest hour of humanity, into the most glorious expression of His love. For God’s love story to us does not end on the cross and the human death of the king.
Into the dead body where He lay, the miraculous breath of resurrection life was given. Death could not hold Him as the final enemy that gripped humanity was defeated. In an instant everything changed. For the light of the world and the Lord of everyone’s destiny is risen. All hail king Jesus!
Let us take a moment of silent surrender, in honour of this sacred time. [silence]
[Prayer] Our Father in heaven, thank you for revealing the magnitude of your selfless love to us in Jesus. Through Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and ascension, we can know and experience you and your kingdom. We can live in reality of your salvation and deliverance, in this world damaged by evil. Father help us to see, help us to hear, what your Spirit is saying. Have your way in each surrendered heart and mind. We thank you, in Jesus name, amen.
As we lay down our preconceived ideas of what we think the text is saying, turn with me to the book of Philippians.
Philippians 2:5-11 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
This is the mind of God, the mind of Jesus the anointed one. Before Jesus’ human birth, death, resurrection and ascension, He was and is and always will be. For He is the Eternal One. The one true God - Father, Son and Spirit, the three are one.
Together they created the heavens and the earth and all things good. Jesus the Son of God, the very essence of God, did not consider His position of power as something to exploit. He never used His power for self gain. For God’s love is selfless and He has and always will use His power for the benefit of others.
Everything God has done, is doing and will do is for us is to bring salvation and deliverance, peace and harmony, victory and freedom, equality and respect. That is the fullness of His kingdom where heaven and earth become one in Christ Jesus.
Let us think about this for a moment. The all powerful’s character is such, that He will never seize power or take back what He freely gives. Instead He makes Himself of no reputation and became a man. To defeat the destructive negative forces of evil and humanity’s selfish desires.
As a man Jesus surrendered His human will, to that of the Father’s will. Before He became human, the Father, Son and Spirit - one God, existed in complete oneness of form and will.
God created the first man and woman and gave them His power and authority to rule and reign. Yet humanity chose to use their God given power for self gain. As a result, humanity gave over their God given right to rule and reign to their selfish desires and evil.
The whole earth is subject to the choices of humanity. All of creation cries out for the one who will represent humanity and pay the cost. The one who will redeem all of creation from the consequences of our selfish desires, evil and death.
To the Apostle John it appeared in amongst the turmoils of this world that there was no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth who was able to loose the seals over God’s eternal salvation and final judgement. Yet praise God we read in Revelation 5:5 But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

So God in Jesus the Son, made Himself of no reputation and become a man. Still fully divine, yet fully human. This was a real event in human history. Jesus’ disciples at the time not only observed Jesus life, death, resurrection and ascension, but they knew and experienced every day life with the divine. They gave their eye witness accounts and testified of Him.
Such is the magnitude of the love of God, that He willingly chose to take on the form of a bondservant. To use His divine power to bring our salvation and deliverance, peace and harmony, victory and freedom, equality and respect.

Revelation 5:13-14 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!” Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.
Every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. For Jesus is the Lord over all creation. Even when Jesus walked the earth as a man, His identity as divine remained. The demons immediately recognised Jesus power and authority to rule and reign. They knew who He was and had to obey.
His own natural creation knew who He was. At His words of His command the winds and the storm was calmed.
In all power and authority Jesus laid down His human life. For such was God’s great love that the very essence of Himself became the sacrifice for us. The perfect sacrifice that defeated death, selfish desires and evil. Jesus is the Lord of everyone’s destiny and He is coming back.
He is coming back to bring in the fullness of His salvation and judgement. He is the fullness of salivation for all who have received His right to rule and reign. The fullness of His salvation includes the elimination of evil and the fullness of our eternal inheritance. Our resurrected bodies that never get sick, never wear it and never die.
In Jesus return all those who rejected Jesus’ and His right to rule and reign will be confronted by their decision. In rejecting Jesus they have effectively denied there only pathway to salvation. Having rejected Jesus they have aligned themselves with evil and as a result are under the judgement of that evil.
Revelation 19:11-16 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
He who sat on the white horse has the identity and character of the Eternal One - faithful and true. Jesus is the faithful and true witness of God the Father and all who are His.
For He is the beginning of creation and the end or fulfilment of salvation. In the beginning was the word and the word was light and life. The word that spoke light into the darkness and life into the nothingness.
He is the Lord of everyone’s destiny and the fulfilment of salvation.
In equity He judges. His war is against evil that has declared war against God. In judgement against evil and all those that have chosen to reject Jesus’ right to rule and reign, comes eternal damnation of evil.
Jesus’ eyes are like a flame of fire. To those who have received Him, His eyes of fire represent His love, His presence, His healing and fulfilment of salvation.
For those who have rejected Jesus, His eyes of fire are His judgement and wrath of the Almighty God against evil. Everything that has declared war on God in their rejection of God, comes under judgement.
Jesus is coming back with His armies of heaven. He shall strike the nations and rule them with an iron sceptre. In Jesus’ return the fulfilment of all the prophecies of old will be complete.
The lies and deceptions of evil have are exposed. The empires of humanity that aligned themselves with evil come under the wrath of God Almighty.
For the lamb who was slain brings judgement upon those who rejected His right to rule and reign. He is triumphant for He is the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. For Jesus is the ultimate power and authority. He is the ultimate ruler of His kingdom of salvation and deliverance, peace and harmony, victory and freedom, equality and respect.

Jesus is coming back for all who honour Him. That is place the highest value on His sacrifice by saying yes to Jesus and giving their allegiance to Him. In honouring king Jesus, receiving Him as king, we honour the Father and His gift of Himself in Jesus to us.

Revelation 22:1-5 And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.
In the physical glorious presence of God Almighty, where we are in our resurrected glorified state, we shall physically see HIs face. There are those who in the spirit have had visions, dreams and experiences of seeing Jesus. Yet the future reality is beyond anything ever imagined. It will not just be spiritual, it will be our complete eternal reality.
Physically, eternally, complete wholeness, we shall see Him face to face. We shall rule and reign forever and ever. All because of who Jesus is and what He has done and will do, to the glory of God the Father.
For Jesus is the Eternal One, the Word of God, Faithful and True, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last, the Son of God, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Wonderful, Counsellor, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father, Mighty God.
