00:21 Speaker

The prophesies were known. Gabriel the messenger of the Lord has announced the coming of the true witness who will come in the spirit and power of Elijah. He will testify of the coming of the Messiah. The eternal one, king of the Jews, the Holy One of Israel, the Son of God, the saviour of the world.

The true witness was in his mother Elizabeth’s womb. Months earlier Elizabeth and Zacharias had a visitation from the angel Gabriel. Who announce they would conceive and give birth to the true witness of the Messiah. He would come in the spirit and power of Elijah. So the time was now for the coming of the Messiah.

Again the angel Gabriel was sent to bring good tidings. This time the angel Gabriel appeared to one who was chosen to conceive the much awaited Messiah. She was the cousin of Elizabeth. Her name was Mary.

But unlike the birth of every other human, the Messiah’s conception would be of no man or a result of a human act. For the Messiah will be of the essence of the Holy Spirit. He will be the eternal one Himself.

Let us go back to that sacred moment in time.

Luke 1:30-33 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

The external one through His messenger Gabriel, speaks intimately and personally. He calls Mary by name. Declaring peace into the fear and revelation into the darkness.

For through Mary, God will bring forth the Messiah. God Himself will come in the form of a baby and subject Himself to the full human condition. His name shall be Jesus. Which means the eternal one is salvation.

So God Himself is not only the giver of salvation, but He intimately and personally would become the embodiment of it. Still fully divine, yet the perfect human representing humanity

For long ago, in the beginning, humanity was given by God the power and authority to rule and reign. In equality and respect, they were able to delight in God, each other and God’s perfect world. As everything was very good.

Yet the first man and woman chose to give over their God given power and authority to rule, to their selfish desires and the evil one. Activating evil into God’s once perfect world. So into this world of inequality and shame, God Himself would come.

He would come to bring eternal salvation. Salvation from death, the destructive forces of evil and humanity’s selfish desires. To take back the power on behalf of humanity. Bringing true justice and equality, eternal life and salvation, honour and respect. Where all who choose to receive God’s free gift of salvation in Jesus, delight in God, each other and an eternity in God’s renewed perfect world.

Jesus the eternal one, is salvation.

God through His angel Gabriel continues to bring this good news of Jesus’ birth to Mary.

Jesus will be called the Son of the Highest. That is the very essence of the Lord God Almighty. The eternal one who created the heavens and the earth and all things good.

The eternal one will come from the highest place of heaven itself. Sent from the heart of God the Father, who is seated upon His throne in heaven. From that place of ultimate authority and purity, Jesus would come. He would come as a vulnerable little baby.

Down to earth from heaven. He would come at a time in human history when the empires of the east and west collide. The Roman Empire was in power. It was one of the most brutal and decadent empires of humanity. The absolute worst of humanity was on display. They would happily crucify an innocent man, just for the pleasure to abuse power.

The contrast between heaven and earth, eternity and temporary, peace and violence, love and hate, equality and oppression, God and humanity was vast. Yet Jesus the eternal one, Son of the Highest, became the Son of Man. He was not of the corrupted seed of humanity, so He was still fully divine. Yet He would willingly become fully human to set humanity free.

So into this world the Messiah, the Son of the Highest, would come.

Jesus the eternal one, is the Son of the Highest.

The angel Gabriel continues. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.

Centuries earlier God promised to the second king of Israel, David, an eternal kingdom. So from the tribe of David, the tribe of Judah, an unending kingdom will come.

In the gospel according to Matthew, the text states that Joseph, the betrothed of Mary, is of the tribe of Judah, the tribe of David. Again God through the angel Gabriel reveals to Mary that Jesus is the One. He will rule and reign over those from the house of Jacob, that is those of Jewish lineage. Not only over those of Jewish lineage, but over those of every tongue, tribe and nation.

This eternal kingdom, from the lineage of king David, will be ruled by the eternal king. History proves that the empires of humanity come and go. David’s rule over Ancient Israel came and went. But in Jesus, the eternal one, being born into the tribe of Judah, He fulfils the prophesy of an eternal kingdom given to David.

For it will be unto all who receive the eternal king, that they will enter into God’s eternal kingdom.

Jesus the eternal one, is given the eternal throne of His earthly father David.

Mary upon receiving this good news asked the angel Gabriel, ‘how can this be for I don’t know a man?’ The angel Gabriel explained.

Luke 1:35-36 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.

Mary’s response to God’s word through his messenger Gabriel was, ‘Let it be to me according to your word.’

Time passed. Mary, was now carrying the Son of God, baby Jesus in her womb. She travelled to her relatives in the hill country, to a city in Judah. She entered the house and greeted her cousin sister Elizabeth. Let us go to that divine encounter.

Luke 1:41-44 And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

Mary’s cousin sister Elizabeth was carrying John the Baptist in her womb. He was the true witness who would come in the spirit and and power of Elijah. For a greater revelation of this please listen to the jesus loves : the world podcast - In the Spirit and Power of Elijah.

For as the prophecies foretold, John will testify that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God and saviour of the world.

The babe in Elizabeth’s womb, when he heard the greeting of Mary who was carrying Jesus leaped for joy. Even in his mother’s womb, the one coming in the spirit and power of Elijah will  testified that Mary was carrying the Messiah, the Son of God and saviour of the world.

In response, Elizabeth testifies also that Mary is carrying her Lord in her womb.

Mary also testifies of God and sings a song that is rich in revelation, thanksgiving, honour and worship.

Let us read the song of Mary.

Luke 1:46-55 And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, In remembrance of His mercy, As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever.”

Mary acknowledges and testifies of God her saviour. That He has done great things for her. Not only for her, but for her people and the world. For God has shown His unending mercy, gentle kindness and pure goodness from generation to generation. God spoke to her fathers, to Abraham and to his seed. He declared that through the lineage of Abraham, the servant of the Most High would come. In Jesus, God fulfilled everything declared to Mary’s people and all humanity.

Mary testifies that to all who receive God and His right to rule and reign, God exalts. For they are the humbled and hungry. Seeking with eager desire the truth, the way and the life. God brings them to Himself and fills them to the full with good things.

Only God is good and He fills the hungry with His eternal goodness. God gives all of Himself for all of humanity. God Himself, the eternal one is salvation and the giver of life eternal. In Jesus, God gives us the greatest gift of all.

Only God is truth and can determine truth, as there is no evil in Him. To those who are genuinely seeking the truth, they are seeking God and His rightness. Having received God and His right to rule and reign, enter into all His goodness.

In complete contrast, to all those who reject God and His right to rule and reign, they have denied their only pathway to salvation.

In rejecting God they have been put down from their thrones. In their own eyes they are mighty, yet God reveals they are not. Having rejected God, those who have put their hope in the riches of this life are left empty. As everything of this world is temporary, they exist in this life with no purpose, identity or eternal fruit.

God in His power and authority has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. For the proud in heart and mind reject God and His right to rule and reign. This word scattered actually means to seperate the dirt and refuse from the grain. God in Jesus will separate those who have rejected Him and His right to rule and reign, from those who have received Him.

For those who have rejected Him have aligned themselves with evil and the destiny of evil. Which is judgement as evil, eternal torment and darkness. Having denied their only pathway to salvation, are separated from God and all His goodness.

In complete contrast, those who have received God have aligned themselves with goodness and eternal life. Having received Jesus, received God enter into His salvation. Together for all eternity with God, living in the fullness of His salvation and all His goodness.

History proves that into this world of inequality and abuses of power, God in Jesus has come. In Jesus, God brings His kingdom to humanity. His kingdom of equality and empowerment of others. Where the imbalances of power are equalised, the humbled exalted, the hungry filled and evil eliminated.

Mary testifies that in her womb, is the greatest gift of all, God Himself in Jesus. The eternal one who is salvation. He is the Son of the Highest, who was born into the lineage of king David. Jesus is the eternal one who rules and reigns forever and ever, amen.
