Humanity demands that there is a cost to be paid for freedom. History testifies that many wars have tried to be justified as paying that cost. Freedom, true freedom as defined by the Eternal One cannot be seized by force. For it is a freedom that transcends both the physical and spiritual realm.
It is the same freedom that the Eternal One freely gave humanity, in the beginning. However in the freedom, power and authority that the Eternal One had given them, humanity chose to give their freedom away. They gave their power and authority to rule and reign to their selfish desires and evil. Effectively giving their selfish desires and evil the power and dominion to rule. So when humanity chose to become one with good and evil, instead of being one with only good, they gave away their freedom.
Having given away their freedom, humanity became trapped in their selfish desires and ultimately live in bondage to death.
Ever since, humanity is continually striving for this freedom that they had chosen to give away. Freedom from the controlling, debilitating and destructive forces of their selfish desires, evil and death.
But the good news is that the Eternal One, in His great love, stepped down into our darkness and shone His glorious light. He crossed cultures and time, dominions and powers. To pay the cost of freedom, to set humanity free.
The Eternal One came from eternity, into this finite world that is damaged by evil. He became a human. Subjected Himself to the full human condition with a physical birth and death. A birth and death that is recognised in both the physical and spiritual realm. Where He paid the cost of freedom that humanity demands has to be paid.
The Eternal One came from the spiritual realm into the physical reality of this world. This time He came intimately and personally in human form, to once again give freedom.
For in the beginning the Eternal One - Father, Son and Spirit, one spirit created. With His eternal voice and breath the Eternal One brought forth the physical light. Into the chaos, the void, the nothingness, the Eternal One spoke and breathed into the physical and spiritual realm.
Eons later, in a moment in time, the Eternal One personally became the gift of freedom.
As humanity demands that someone has to pay for the cost of freedom, the Eternal One willingly paid the cost for us. So that we could believe and receive once again His gift of freedom. A freedom that is defined by the Eternal One.
That is true eternal freedom. Free from shame, the destructive insatiable forces of our selfish desires and ultimately death. The Eternal One did it all, so that we could be truly free.
Just as in the English language the word of kingdom is the union of two words, so too is the English word freedom. Kingdom refers to the king himself and the domain where that king’s right to rule and reign is recognised. The same is true for freedom. It combines words free and domain or dominion. That is the realms, areas or regions where being free is recognised.
As Jesus life, death and resurrection is recognised in both the physical and spiritual realm, the cost of freedom that He has paid is also recognised.
When Jesus walked the earth as a man, He defined what true freedom is. Both spiritual and physical.
Luke 418-21 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.” Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
Jesus came to bring healing and freedom, equality and justice. The Eternal One who spoke light into the darkness and life into the void, proclaims freedom. To all who receive Him, we receive His sacrifice and accept the cost that He has paid for our freedom. In receiving Jesus we receive His freedom. A freedom that is recognised in both the physical and spiritual realm. A freedom that is in part to live now, in this world damaged by evil and in the fullness of time for all eternity. No more death, sickness, dying, sorrow or pain.
Jesus brings true freedom in healing to our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual existence.
Where our physical bodies inherit eternal life, having received Jesus, no longer held captive to death.
Having received Jesus and the cost He has paid for our freedom we receive freedom from emotional hurt and pain. Healing of broken hearts and all offences ever done to us and by us. Having received Jesus we receiving spiritual healing of no longer being destined for an eternity of darkness, shame and torment. Having received Jesus we are destined for eternity of light, honour and peace everlasting.
Jesus also sets at liberty those who are oppressed or downtrodden. In this world damaged by evil there is inequality and injustices. Having received Jesus and the cost He has paid for our freedom, we receive His justice and equality. Once again restored as equal. Physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
After Jesus announced His mission He preached, taught and demonstrated His power and authority to bring freedom in both the physical and spiritual realm. In one conversation He had with those of Jewish lineage, He talked about being truly free. Linking freedom with truth and being enjoined with the Eternal One’s identity.
Let us read John 8:32-36 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Jesus links the truth that brings freedom with His own identity. His identity that is recognised in both the physical and spiritual world. That is the identity of being the Son of God.
In receiving Jesus, receiving God our identity in both the physical and spiritual realm is changed. For our mortal physical bodies become a dwelling place for the Spirit of the Eternal One. This is what is referred to as a spiritual birth. Receiving Jesus’ status as Son, we become a child of the Eternal One.
The truth that brings freedom is Jesus Himself. Being enjoined with Him, identifying with Him and the cost that He has paid when He identified with us.
Jesus reveals that true freedom is being set free from the slavery of sin. That is sin as defined by the only one who is perfect and pure. It is to cause an offence. In this context Jesus refers to sin as not accepting the Eternal Ones right to rule and reign. They know who Jesus is, yet they chose to reject Him and His right to rule and reign. In rejecting Jesus, they reject their only pathway to freedom.
One of the deepest and subtle forms of slavery that humanity experiences is self. All the injustices and inequalities of this world are a result of humanity’s selfish desires. Whether consciously or subconsciously being trapped in the insatiable quest for self gratification and self glorification.
But the good news is Jesus brings true freedom. For He is who He says He is. He is the Son of God who became the Son of Man. He is the ultimate power and authority in both the spiritual and physical realm. Representing both God and humanity, Jesus is the only one who brings true freedom.
A freedom that is for all people to receive. Regardless of ethnicity, economic status, age or gender, Jesus paid the highest cost. The cost being His spiritual form and physical life.
In Jesus’ public physical death and resurrection, He defeated the ultimate enemy of humanity and that is death.
Remembering that it is humanity who demanded that someone has to pay, the more we know the enormous cost that the Eternal One paid for our freedom, the greater the revelation of His selfless love we can receive.
Jesus referred to the cost of our freedom as the pearl of great price. He uses a story style of communication to explain how He places the highest value on our freedom. A freedom that is both physical and spiritual.
Matthew 13:45-46 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
The Eternal One placed the highest value on humanity’s freedom. Jesus refers to all those who receive His sacrifice as the pearl of great price. Telling a story Jesus states that the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls. This is like the Eternal One seeking for all those who will receive Him. As a result receive His sacrifice and receive His freedom. The merchant in the story sold all that He had for the sake of the one pearl of great price.
This word that has been translated as sold in sold all that he had to pay the cost, can actually mean to sell someone into slavery. Jesus became a bondservant, that is a slave to the human condition, gave up His heavenly riches and paid the highest cost for our freedom. True freedom. That is freedom from the destructive controlling forces of our selfish desires, shame and ultimately death.
Both the physical and spiritual realm testifies that Jesus is the Son of God who became the Son of Man. All those who have received God throughout the ages testify of who Jesus is.
Those who witnessed Jesus’ human life, death, resurrection and ascension. Also all those who have received the Eternal One’s right to rule and reign throughout the ages. Having received Jesus, received the Eternal One, testify of who He is and what He has done in paying the cost of freedom. The cost of freedom that humanity demanded that someone has to pay the cost.
Those of the spiritual realm also testify that Jesus paid the cost of freedom. The good and bad spirits all know who Jesus is and testify. The Eternal One also testifies. God the Father and the Holy Spirit bear witness that Jesus is the Son also became human. He came to set humanity free and satisfy the demand from humanity that someone has to pay. Jesus became that someone, both physically and spiritually.
Let us go to 1 John 5:6-13 and I’m reading from the New King James Version.
1 John 5:6-13 This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.
If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
Both the physical and spiritual realm testify that who the Son sets free is free indeed. Jesus has paid the cost of freedom. The Eternal One - Father, Son and Spirit - has given everything of themselves to humanity. Paid the ultimate cost. A cost that humanity demanded be paid. The Eternal One did it all for us. So that we can be truly free.
