From the beginning of creation right through to the final completion of time itself, God reveals His selfless, unconditional, unending love for all people. Everything God does, He does because He so loves. For that is who He is.

Through the revelation of Jesus comes the knowledge and experience of God’s great love. His love that is both relational and personal. In Jesus, God the Father gave Himself to pay the cost for all offences ever said, thought or done against God, self and each other. In paying the cost of all offences and defeating death and evil, each individual has the opportunity to receive deliverance from them and their eternal consequences.

Throughout God’s love story the Bible, there are individuals and people groups who come to know and experience God through the revelation of Jesus. One such individual was the Apostle Paul.

Out of the revelation of Jesus, the Apostle Paul wrote many letters testifying of the love of God. One such letter was addressed to the people who had received Jesus, received God and lived in the region of Galatia. Let us begin with the greeting of this letter.

Galatians 1:3-5 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Paul begins with the powerful revelation of God and His great love. He states, grace to you. Grace being the divine influence upon the heart, that brings joy. It is the perfect good will and loving kindness of God toward an undeserving humanity.

Peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, is a divine peace. It is a safety and security in His great love and a blessed assurance of salvation through the revelation of Jesus.

For it is the goodwill and pleasure of our God and Father to deliver us from this present evil age. Where we can live in the blessed assurance of our salvation in this present age and for all eternity.

God has given all of Himself in the Son of God, becoming the Son of Man. In grace and truth Jesus came. From the depths of the Father’s heart He came down from heaven to earth. He lived, He died and rose again and ascended on high. He is now eternally in a resurrected, glorified human form.

Oh what love that the Eternal, Self-Existing one, the Father, Son and Spirit, who of one will looked into eternity and created. Even knowing that humanity would corrupt themselves and God’s perfect world, He still created. Seeing through the windows of time, it was His good pleasure to become the sacrifice and pay the cost for humanity. That He might deliver us from every offence and their consequences. He did it all for us. For this is the gospel truth that came through the revelation of Jesus.

Galatians 1:11-12 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Through the revelation of Jesus, the fullness of the truth about God is revealed. The Father testifies of the Son and the Son testifies of the Father. Likewise the Holy Spirit testifies of the Son and the Father. The Son and Father testify of the Holy Spirit.

God gives all of Himself to all people groups and nations. He did it all for the one.

Unfortunately there were those in Galatia at the time of Paul writing this letter that attempted to pervert the gospel truth. They were advocating that salvation was obtained through the works of the law. That is the laws, customs and rituals given to the Ancient Israelites centuries ago.

Through the revelation of Jesus, the Apostle Paul testifies of God. That is who He is and that salvation is a gift from God of God Himself.

To prove his case the Apostle Paul takes the recipients of the letter back in time. To the days of Abraham, long before the law was given.

Galatians 3:5-9 Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.

It is God Himself who brings salvation. He supplies His Spirit to personally dwell within everyone who says yes to Jesus, yes to God and gives total allegiance to Him.

Just as Abraham who lived at a time long before the law was given, believed God, God accounted to Abraham righteousness.

Believed is to confirm and be faithful to. In this instance that is to confirm that the Eternal One is God and give total allegiance to Him and worship only Him. In doing so Abraham received the Eternal One, who is the Father, Son and Spirit and His gift of salvation. Abraham received the rightness of God, that is His equal justice and salvation. For each one throughout the ages has the right to hear the truth. Every individual has the right to choose who they worship.

The Eternal One, the creator of heaven and earth brings His justice of equality and respect to each individual, people group and nation.

Those who are of faith are those who have said yes to the Eternal One. That is yes to Jesus, yes to God. For God shared His heart with Abraham and with us today. That through the lineage of Abraham the saviour of the world in Jesus would come.

Galatians 3:15-18 Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ. And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

The Eternal One made a covenant with Abraham. Abraham chose to confirm God’s love and covenant by being faithful to God in worshipping only Him. The Apostle Paul explains that through Abraham and His generational bloodline, God Himself in Jesus would come and be the saviour of the world.

The law that came to the Ancient Israelites 430 years after God’s covenant with Abraham did not supersede or replace the promise of God Himself being the saviour of the world. For since the foundation of the world He willingly would become the perfect sacrifice. Be the one to pay the cost for every offence ever said thought or done by every individual, people group and nation throughout the ages.

The law was given to the prideful Ancient Israelites to reveal to them their need for a saviour. To bring them back to God in a time when they chose to reject Him and as a result deny their only pathway to salvation. The law is an example of God’s great love and amazing grace. In by giving the law to the Ancient Israelites, they were enabled to believe they had received the forgiveness of God. A forgiveness that is always there for them and anyone who is willing to come to Him. Through the sacrificial system, the Ancient Israelites were required to pay the cost allocated for their offence. They were to provide compensation of equal value to the offence they had committed. This required an admission that they had committed an offence. This admission would help open their hearts and minds to God.

The law also revealed God’s heart for true justice of equality and respect for all people. For the heart of God is that none should perish and all would receive His free gift of salvation.

Paul makes it clear that through the revelation of Jesus, upon receiving Him, we are all heirs according to the promise. The promise given to Abraham that through His lineage the families of the earth shall be blessed. This is the promise of salvation for all people.

Galatians 3:26-29 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Each one who receives Jesus inherits equal status. For there is no divisions or hierarchical distinction in God’s family. Regardless of socio economic status or gender we are born into this life, when we receive Jesus we receive His salvation, His status, His inheritance and eternity.

This is what being baptised into Christ means. As having received Him we are immersed in Him. That is in all of who He is and what He has given. We are free from the bondage of the injustices of this world.

Yet to live in the fullness of this reality and the freedom of what we have been given in Jesus is a daily journey. A daily journey of surrendering of our self will to God and receiving from Him more of His character. More of His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Where He transforms us each day to see others through His eyes of equality and love, grace and forgiveness.

The Apostle Paul explains it this way.

Galatians 5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

This freedom and equal status that we have been given by God in Jesus is not for self gain. It cannot be earned nor deserved. It is a gift of God. This precious gift from God of God Himself is to be received. It is not for self gain to feed ones flesh of self will. It is a gift to be free of the controlling destructive forces of the self will of humanity. To be empowered to not feed it, but to surrender it to the perfect will of God the Father and His desire for each person to be truly free.

Where each one in newness of His Spirit and transforming power, out of His love in us, serve one another. To serve through His love, means to be free of the bondage of selfish desires to say and do things to get from another what self wants. In surrendering to God this desire to control and manipulate others to get what self wants, God brings true freedom.

The Apostle Paul in this letter refers to the daily journey of surrendering these desires of self as crucifying the flesh. In surrender of self will to control and manipulate others to get what self wants to God, the flesh is not fed. Instead blockages of God’s work in us are removed.

Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Out of the revelation of Jesus, we are empowered to know and experience the love of God. Through the daily surrender of self will to that of the Father’s will, we are able to know and experience His love more and more. Out of His selfless, unconditional, unending love for all people, we are able to walk in the Spirit. Through the revelation of Jesus, knowing and experiencing His unending love, liberating truth and transforming power is a daily journey. All of which is a work of God. We simply surrender and receive.
