Throughout the ages the Eternal One continues to pursue in love. Even those whom He knows will never come to Him, He continues to pursue. As His desire is that none should perish. The Eternal One deems that everyone has the right to hear and the right to choose.
Aspects of humanity continue to give power to their selfish desires and evil. The surge for power continues to cause conflict and suffering. Social injustices are ever increasing, wars and rumours of wars abound,
Yet in amongst it all the Eternal One steps down into our darkness and says, ‘Come let us reason together.’
Let us go back in time, when the whole earth was in turmoil. The situation was this. There were those who said they were the people of the Eternal One, yet in their hearts they were not. They had rejected the Eternal One and His right to rule and reign. They chose the violent ways of the surrounding nations. Instead of worshipping the Eternal One who created humanity, they corrupted themselves and the land. Having turned their hearts away from the Eternal One, they worshipped the gods made by humanity. They didn't want to hear from the Eternal One directly, so they dulled their hearts and minds.
Yet the Eternal One in His never ending love, sent His prophet to them, to speak for Him. All with the desire and intent to set them free. To bring them back to Himself, so that they could live in harmony with Him, the land and each other. This prophets name was Isaiah.
Isaiah was sent to his own people group. Through visions, the Eternal One spoke to Isaiah the truth about Isaiah’s people. The imagery the Eternal One revealed to Isaiah was both vivid and damning.
They were referred to as a brood of evil doers, having forsaken the Eternal One, provoked Him to anger having defiled themselves and the land. The Eternal One states how they had turned His beloved city into a place of evil. A city that was supposed to be a haven for all people to come and encounter Him. The Eternal One now refers to the city as a harlot. It is a place filled with hands full of blood. Where everyone loves bribes and follows after rewards. They worshipped the works of their hands and followed the violent ways of humanity. Even the children had become corrupters. They turned the city of God into a place of injustice and oppression. All this has provoked the Eternal One to anger. As the Eternal One hates injustice, inequality and oppression. They are the works of the selfish desires of humanity and the Eternal One declares them evil.
So from the kings to the lowest in the socio-economic hierarchy, the whole of Judah had corrupted themselves.
Yet in amongst all this, the Eternal One through His prophet Isaiah states, ‘Come now, and let us reason together. The Eternal One invites the prideful people to dialogue and reason. This invitation is to reveal the truth to them. For everyone has the right to hear.
Isaiah 1:16-18 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow. Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool…”
The Eternal One reveals His heart for all people. To seek justice is to seek the only one who is just. The Eternal One through His prophet Isaiah revealed what is unjust and now reveals what is justice. For the Eternal One is just and true. He is the eternal, self-sustaining, all-powerful, all-knowing one who is has no evil in Him. He is never one with evil and is only good, just and true. Only the Eternal One can determine what is just and true, for He had no selfishness in Him and no need for anything.
So the Eternal One states, ‘Rebuke the oppressor…’ Rebuke in this instance means to be honest or integrous. That is in relationship with the Eternal One, out of a transformed heart and mind, in surrender to Him, will treat others equally. For equality to the Eternal One is His justice. True justice and rightness. The Eternal One’s kingdom and community is of equality where they were to no longer be the oppressor or be oppressed. For each one is equal.
The Eternal One continues to reveal what is justice to the prideful heart and mind. He states, ‘Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow...’ The Eternal One, who is just and true never uses His power for self-gain. So He is urging the powerful to use their power to raise the powerless up, equal-equal. For that is His kingdom and true justice.
Yet the majority at the time of Isaiah refused to listen. They harden their hearts even more and in arrogance and pride set themselves up to be as God. They continue to choose the way of oppression and abuses of power.
Again the Eternal One reasons with them in a way the prideful heart and mind can understand. He reveals to them that empires of humanity come and go. As there will come a day when the proud will be humbled. On that day the Eternal One alone shall be exalted.
For the Eternal One will bring both eternal judgment of evil and eternal salvation.
Isaiah 3:14-15 The LORD will enter into judgment With the elders of His people And His princes: “For you have eaten up the vineyard; The plunder of the poor is in your houses. What do you mean by crushing My people And grinding the faces of the poor?” Says the Lord GOD of hosts.
The Eternal One’s presence is judgment to those who have rejected Him. As a result of rejecting the Eternal One, it is revealed through the prophet Isaiah that this is aligning oneself with evil. Delighting in oppressing others and haughtily exalting oneself above the Eternal One is the root of all evil.
So the Eternal One’s invitation is simple, Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool…”
So in amongst all this, there is a remnant. That is those who have chosen to receive the Eternal One and His right to rule and reign. Giving total allegiance to Him and worshipping only Him. As a result of receiving the Eternal One receive His salvation.
Aligning oneself with the Eternal One is to align oneself with only good. Delighting in good and hating injustices and abuses of power of this world is aligning oneself with the Eternal One’s character.
All throughout the Eternal One’s love story the Bible, His heart for equality and true justice is revealed. To bring the Eternal One’s words to a prideful and rebellious people who have chosen their pathway of destruction, the prophet Isaiah was not alone. Another such prophet at the time of Isaiah was Micah.
Through His prophet Micah the Eternal One again brings words of salvation and judgment. Again the Eternal One invites the prideful people to come let us reason together.
Micah 6:2-8 Hear, O you mountains, the LORD’s complaint, And you strong foundations of the earth; For the LORD has a complaint against His people, And He will contend with Israel. “O My people, what have I done to you? And how have I wearied you? Testify against Me. For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, I redeemed you from the house of bondage; And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. O My people, remember now What Balak king of Moab counseled, And what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, From Acacia Grove to Gilgal, That you may know the righteousness of the LORD.” With what shall I come before the LORD, And bow myself before the High God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, With calves a year old? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, Ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
Through His prophet Micah, the Eternal One exposes their unjust and evil hearts. From the rulers to the people they were corrupt. This is includes the religious leaders who are false prophets. These are the ones who claim to speak for the Eternal One, but have given their hearts to evil.
The Eternal One reasons and exposes their deceptions. He states that He never mistreated them, He never left them nor had He ever forsaken them. The Eternal One reasons He never approved of their excesses and abhorred their injustices and abuses of power. He did not require burnt offerings, though they gave them in an attempt to manipulate and deceive Him.
The Eternal One through the prophet Micah reasons. He has shown you, O man (that is humanity), what is good…
For the Eternal One is good. So to the prideful religious who with self-centred motives the Eternal One reasons, do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with Him.
To do justly is to give total allegiance to the Eternal One, for He is just and true. In giving total allegiance to Him, live in continual surrender to Him. To the prideful who boast about their outward appearance, opulent wealth and oppressive actions, the Eternal One states, love mercy. That is love goodness, kindness and faithfulness.
For the Eternal One is kind and faithful. He alone is only good.
The first use of this word that has been translated as good is in the beginning. In the Genesis One account of creation. When God said, ‘Let there be light…’ and light was brought forth with the sound of the Eternal One. Out of the darkness and the chaos, light came into existence. All of His creation was to be a reflection of Himself, His goodness, His kindness and His faithfulness. Let us go back to that time.
Genesis 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
The physical light that the Eternal One created, divided the light from the dark. The Eternal One is the spiritual light who divides the spiritual darkness from the light. In reasoning with the prideful people who say they are His but have given their allegiance to the darkness, the Eternal One defines what is good and what is evil. The first man and woman were created equal and all of creation was very good.
Back to the Eternal One’s words to the prideful people through His prophet Micah. ‘But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God…’
Walk humbly is to receive the truth about the Eternal One, self and others. It is to acknowledge one’s need for a saviour. Receive the Eternal One’s right to rule and reign in one’s life. It is the daily journey with Him through this life to know and experience the Eternal One more. Walking humbly with Him is live in continual heart and mind condition of surrender to Him. For He alone is worthy of worship, honour and glory. When living in a heart and mind condition of surrender to the Eternal One, one cannot help be humbled. He transforms and renews a surrendered heart and mind to live in the reality of His justice and character.
The Eternal One’s invitation to come is always there. For those who have yet to receive Him, when Jesus walked the earth as a man He said in Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
So together with the Spirit we say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
