The Prophecies of Who is the Messiah?

There are many prophecies concerning the Messiah throughout God’s love story the Bible. That is the Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God. There are many prophecies concerning the Messiah throughout God’s love story the Bible. That is the Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God. Today we will begin our journey through some of these prophecies and discover who is the messiah, the Anointed One. 

The first aspect that we look at of the Messiah in the Old Testament is His ancestry. So let us look at some of those scriptures that reveal the ancestry of the Anointed One.

Many centuries ago, there was a man who was called Abram. The Eternal Almighty God changed his name to Abraham. Which means father or chief of a multitude. 

Abraham believed the Eternal Almighty God and gave his total allegiance to Him and worshipped only Him.

The Eternal Almighty God gave a promise to Abraham concerning the Messiah. 

Let us read Genesis 12:1-3 “Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

This was a generational promise that would occur centuries on in time. Long after Abraham’s death. Abraham became the founding father of both the Hebrew and Arab people. 

The Eternal Almighty God foretold that in the seed of Abraham all the nations of the earth shall be blessed. That from Abraham’s lineage will come the Anointed One, the Messiah and saviour of the world. The Anointed One who will be the glory of Israel and the light unto all those of non Jewish lineage. He would be the one to pay the cost for all humanity. To set humanity free from evil and their selfish desires. He wold be the one who would come from the lineage of Abraham.

So the first prophecy we have looked at is: The Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God, would come from the lineage of Abraham.

As time passed the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob grew to be many. Just as the Eternal Almighty God said it would happen, they became a great nation. Jacob had 12 sons. The Eternal Almighty God foretold that through one of the 12 sons, that is Judah, there would be a royal lineage. 

Genesis 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.

Again the Eternal, Almighty God promised that through the tribe of Judah, He would establish His eternal kingdom. 

As time passed, the Eternal Almighty God gave the same promise to the second king of Israel, king David. David was from the tribe of Judah. 

Let us read 1 Chronicles 17:11-14 And it shall be, when your days are fulfilled, when you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your seed after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be his Father, and he shall be My son; and I will not take My mercy away from him, as I took it from him who was before you. And I will establish him in My house and in My kingdom forever; and his throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”

In this passage of scripture there is a duel meaning. There is a reference to David’s desire to build a physical temple as a place for God to dwell. In His grace and mercy, the Eternal Almighty God states that this will come to pass. However it was not to be in David’s lifetime but through his son and successor Solomon. 

In this the Eternal Almighty God reveals His heart’s desire and eternal plan to David. Taking David beyond his own time and circumstances. He states that through David’s descendants, that is his lineage of the tribe of Judah, the Anointed One of God would come. The Anointed One will establish God’s eternal kingdom. The reign of this king unlike his sons Solomon and those after him, would be forever and ever amen. 

So the next prophecy that we looked is: The Anointed One of the Eternal, Almighty God would come from the lineage of king David.

The Eternal Almighty God shared his heart with David once again. He foretold to David of a time when the Anointed One would come. He would come from eternity, into our finite world. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom. He would have the ultimate power of the Eternal Almighty God. 

Let us read a Psalm written by David that expresses the Eternal Almighty God’s heart and plan. David expresses the Eternal Almighty God’s heart and plan in a Psalm. 

Let us read, Psalm 110 The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies! Your people shall be volunteers In the day of Your power; In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth. The LORD has sworn And will not relent, “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.” The Lord is at Your right hand; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill the places with dead bodies, He shall execute the heads of many countries. He shall drink of the brook by the wayside; Therefore He shall lift up the head.

The Eternal Almighty God empowered David to see through to eternity. Where the Anointed One sits in the position ultimate power and authority. That is the right hand of the Eternal Almighty God. The Anointed One is king of all kings. David acknowledges the Anointed One is His Lord. He has received the Eternal Almighty God’s right to rule and reign, that is given total allegiance to Him and worship only Him.

The Anointed One shall walk amongst the nations. That is in our finite world on earth in our dirt and pain. There will come a time when He will execute judgment upon the nations of the earth. That is judgment for rejecting the Eternal Almighty God and His right to rule and reign. For in rejecting the Anointed One is to reject the Eternal Almighty God. The Anointed One will bring refreshment and victory to humanity.

Not only is the Anointed One the ultimate ruler, that He is in the position of the Eternal Almighty God Himself, but He is also a priest forever. An eternal priest who represents both humanity and the Eternal Almighty God. A priest that is righteous, that is, not of the corrupted seed of humanity.

Time passed. King David is dead and buried. His domain became split into two kingdoms. Both the Northern and Southern kingdom of Ancient Israel had turned their backs on the Eternal Almighty God. Yet in amongst all their darkness, the Eternal Almighty God still shared His heart and plan with them. 

Even in the rebellion of the Ancient Israelites, the Eternal Almighty God continued to share His heart and plan. This time through His prophet Micah. 

Micah 5:2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.” He will be born in the city of David, Bethlehem. 

The Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God would be born in Bethlehem.

So the next prophecy that we looked at is: The Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God would come as a vulnerable baby, born in Bethlehem.

The Anointed One would not be born of the corrupted seed of humanity, but would come from everlasting. Again the Eternal, Almighty God shared His heart and plan. This time with the prophet Isaiah. 

Let us read Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. 

The Eternal Almighty God, reveals that the Anointed One would not only come from the lineage of David, but also He will be eternal. That is the Anointed One would be the Eternal Almighty God Himself. He will come as a vulnerable little baby. Bringing His kingdom of peace and true justice of equality. For His kingdom reflects His character or nature. He is just and true, Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counsellor, Almighty God, Everlasting Father. He will be known as God with us. 

Let us read again from Isaiah. 

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. 

That is the Almighty God. The Almighty God will personally comes from His everlasting existence into our finite world. He is the Almighty God who became one of us. The Almighty God would be the Messiah, the Anointed One, the Christ and saviour of the world. He would do this personally and intimately as one of us. He would come and dwell amongst humanity. To set humanity free. 

So the next prophecy that we looked at is: The Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God would personally come from eternity into our finite world.

To sum up the Messiah, the Anointed One, that is the Christ would come from the lineage of Abraham and be a blessing to all people groups. He would be from the lineage of David. The Anointed One will have the power and authority of the Eternal Almighty God. For He is the King of all kings. His power and authority and kingdom is eternal.

The Anointed One of the Eternal, Almighty God would come as a vulnerable baby, born in Bethlehem. He would personally come from eternity into our finite world. For He is the Eternal Almighty God Himself. 

So time passed. Hundred and hundreds of years later, after these and all the other prophecies were spoken, the Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God did come. His name is Jesus. 

This momentous time was recorded in the New Testament Gospels. 

Let us read Matthew 1:1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:

To the wise men of the East, the students of the stars, it was revealed. Matthew 2:1-2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

To the shepherds watching their sheep by night, it was revealed. Luke 2:10-11 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

To the Apostle John it was revealed that Jesus was the word of God who became human. John 1:1-4 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Verse 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

As time passed Jesus had grown to be a man. To the Jews of the day He revealed, John 8:58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

Praise His mighty name!
