Following on from last week, we will continue journeying through some of the Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah, the Anointed One, the Christ.

We looked at some of the scriptures that revealed what the Messiah, the Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God would be like. He would be the light of the world who pushes back the darkness and brings revelation. The Anointed One is the king of all kings who would become the suffering servant who pays the cost for us. He would justify all those who receive Him, receive His sacrifice, receive His victory.

At the beginning of this series we looked at how the Anointed One would come. He would be  from the lineage of Abraham, the lineage of David. The Anointed One would come as a vulnerable baby, born in Bethlehem. He would personally come from eternity into our finite world. For He is the Eternal Almighty God Himself.

So today we will look at what the Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God would do.

Again we will go back to the time of Ancient Israelites. When they had turned their back on the Eternal Almighty God. Yet the Eternal Almighty God still continued to pursue them in love. He shared His heart and plan with them. This time with the prophet Jeremiah.

Let us read Jeremiah 33:14-17 Behold, the days are coming,’ says the LORD, ‘that I will perform that good thing which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah: ‘In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David A Branch of righteousness; He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. In those days Judah will be saved, And Jerusalem will dwell safely. And this is the name by which she will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’ “For thus says the LORD: ‘David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;

Once again the Eternal Almighty God declares that from the lineage of David, the Anointed One will come. He will execute judgment and righteousness on the earth. Judgment that would be against evil and everything associated with it. The Anointed One would bring His righteousness and salvation in the earth.

His righteousness that is His character and kingdom. Creating a place of true justice of equality and respect. A justice that is not determined through selfish motives or the unjust hierarchal systems of this world. It is the justice and peace of the Eternal Almighty God Himself. For He alone is eternal, all powerful, just and true. Only the Eternal Almighty God can determine what is just and true, as that is His nature or character.

So the first prophecy of what will the Messiah do is: The Anointed One of the Eternal, Almighty God would execute judgment of evil and true justice, bringing peace in the earth.

The Eternal Almighty God will personally be the righteousness, the redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. He will gift His righteousness to all who receive Him. The Eternal Almighty God also shares His heart and plan with the prophet Isaiah.

Let us read Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD.

Earlier chapter 54 of Isaiah, the Eternal Almighty God reveals that the Anointed One, is the Holy One of Israel who is called the God of the whole earth. For He is the creator. The Anointed One is the giver of righteousness to all who receive Him and accept His right to rule and reign. That is to every tongue, tribe, nation and people group, the Anointed One gives His righteousness. That is His rightness, His justice of equality and respect.

So the next prophecy of what will the Messiah do is: The Anointed One of the Eternal, Almighty God would be holy and gift His righteousness of equality and respect to all who receive Him.

The Anointed One’s coming is intricately woven into what He will do. As everything He will do is determined by who He is. So again out of His great love, the Eternal Almighty God shares His heart and plan with His prophets, the Ancient Israelites and to all people. They testify He would bring salvation and healing. That is physical, mental, emotional and spiritual salvation and healing.

Let us read Isaiah 35:4-10 Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.” Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing.

For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert. The parched ground shall become a pool, And the thirsty land springs of water; In the habitation of jackals, where each lay, There shall be grass with reeds and rushes. A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray. No lion shall be there, Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; It shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there, And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away

The Anointed One will right all wrongs and bring His kingdom on earth. Creating a place of safety. The Anointed One will pour out His living waters into the dry ground. Streams will burst forth in the wilderness. The wastelands shall be filled with life.

The Anointed One will create a pathway that is both sacred and safe. The exiled ones of Jewish lineage will also walk this path. Following the Anointed One to the heart and throne of the Eternal Almighty God. There will be no more sorrows. Instead there be singing and great joy.

The Anointed One will bring His salvation and deliverance from evil. With salvation comes the judgement and eradication of evil. The Anointed One would do all this, for He is just and true, the Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counsellor, Almighty God, Everlasting Father, redeemer and new life everlasting.

The next prophecy of what will the Messiah do is: The Anointed One of the Eternal, Almighty God would give salvation and new life everlasting.

At the Anointed One’s coming, blind eyes and deaf ears shall be opened. The nonspeaking shall sing and the lame shall leap like a dear. That is full salvation - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The Anointed One would bring complete healing.

The next prophecy of what will the Messiah do is: The Anointed One of the Eternal, Almighty God would heal - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

To sum up: The Anointed One of the Eternal, Almighty God would right all the wrongs and make everything right once again. He would execute judgment of evil and true justice, and bring peace on the earth. The Anointed One would be holy and gift His righteousness to all who receive Him. Giving His salvation and new life everlasting. He would bring His healing and victory - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. For that is His nature.

There are many more prophecies written in the Old Testament of God’s love story the Bible about the Messiah, the Anointed One who is the Christ. All of them are fulfilled by the Eternal, Almighty God, personally and intimately in Jesus. They are testified about in the New Testament of God’s love story the Bible. One such eye witness was the Apostle Peter.

Let us read Acts 10:42-43 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all— that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”

Another Apostle that is the Apostle John testifies. By the Holy Spirit his eyes were opened into the unseen future time of Jesus’ second coming.

Revelation 19:11-16 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Another Apostle who testifies Jesus is the one, the Messiah and what He will do is the Apostle Paul.

Romans 5:17-18

This is a letter by the Apostle Paul to the disciples of Jesus in Rome.

For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.

The Apostle John recorded Jesus’ own words that were directed towards a rabbi or teacher of the law who was of Jewish lineage. Jesus opened his eyes that He is bringing His salvation and healing to all people.

John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

To a woman of Jewish lineage Jesus reveals what the Messiah will do.

John 11:25-27 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

Another time and place, when Jesus walked the earth as a man before the cross, He responded to the question, ‘are you the coming one?’

Luke 7:22 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.

When Jesus walked the earth as a man He did many things. The Apostle John declared that if all of them were written one by one I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Praise His mighty name!
