Today we will conclude our series on the prophecies concerning the Messiah. We first looked at how the Messiah, the Anointed One would come from the lineage of Abraham, the father of many nations. He would also come from the line of the second king of Ancient Israel, king David. This would fulfil both prophecies and promises given to Abraham and David many centuries before the Anointed One’s coming.

We also looked at the prophecies concerning the Anointed One’s arrival on earth. He would come as a vulnerable baby, born in Bethlehem. He would not be born of the seed of humanity, for He will be the Eternal Almighty God Himself. The Eternal Almighty God would personally be with humanity as the Anointed One. He would be a covenant and light to all people.

The Eternal Almighty God would personally come from eternity into our finite world and experience the full human condition. He would willingly lay down His life and be the suffering servant, a man of sorrows aquatinted with our grief. Out of His unconditional love, the Anointed One would pay the cost for all humanity. He would do it all to set humanity free.

Let us pause for a moment and remember that all these prophecies were centuries before they were fulfilled in Jesus’ coming.

There are some aspects of the many prophecies of the Messiah’s coming that are yet to be fulfilled. They remain sealed in eternity until the appointed time by the Eternal Almighty God the Father. For He is waiting until all have heard the truth and those who choose to come to Him have come. As they are the promises of the one who is faithful and true, Jesus is coming back again. This time bringing the fulness of judgment which includes the total eradication of evil. Bringing true justice and peace on earth. When all those throughout the ages have received Jesus, received God, receive their eternal physical bodies. That is bodies that never get sick, never wear out and never die.

Let us read another prophecy given many centuries before Jesus came from heaven to earth. When He lived, died, rose from the dead and ascended back into heaven. Having defeated death, evil and humanity’s selfish desires.

Zechariah 12:10 “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

This prophecy is very specifically about the Anointed One being pierced and those of Jewish lineage looking upon Him. Those of Jewish lineage who had rejected God, rejected the Messiah, the Anointed One. They knew Jesus was the Anointed One, yet they plotted to kill Him. They demanded that Jesus be crucified. So to appease those of Jewish lineage who had rejected God, rejected Jesus, they sentenced Jesus to death.

However in amongst the crowd that screamed out crucify Him, crucify Him, were those of Jewish lineage who had received God, received Jesus. They mourned, weeped and lamented. They looked upon Jesus tortured body. Seeing His blood pour out as He hung upon the cross. When Jesus had given His last human breath, He placed His spirit into the hands of the Eternal Almighty God the Father. As a sign that He was dead, His side was pierced.

The Apostle John testifies of that time being fulfilled at Jesus’ cruxifixction John 19:33-37. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.” And again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”

After Jesus’ resurrection and ascension when the Apostle John was on island of Patmos for the word of his testimony, the resurrected Jesus appeared to John. Jesus showed John what must take place in the future. No one except the Eternal Mighty God the Father knows the time, but when it happens it will be very quick.

The same John who witnessed Jesus being pierced on the cross testifies of Jesus’ resurrection, ascension and return.

Revelation 1:7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

So even though John testified that Jesus’ side was pierced fulfilling the prophecy given to Zechariah, there is also a future event that has yet to take place. This will occur when Jesus returns.

Suddenly at that moment, every eye will see Jesus coming on the clouds. All the tribes of the earth, that is those from the 12 tribes of the Ancient Israel, meaning those of Jewish lineage will mourn because of Him.

When Jesus walked the earth as a man, before He was crucified talked about His return and explains the word that has been translated as tribes is those of Jewish lineage.

Let us go to that time and see how Jesus refers to the tribes of the earth as those of Jewish lineage.

Matthew 19:28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus explains to the Apostle Peter, who is of Jewish lineage that when He returns and the new heaven and the new earth have become one and evil is totally eliminated, Peter along with the others of Jewish lineage who have followed Jesus will judge the twelve tribes of Ancient Israel.

Before this takes place and immediately after the great tribulation Jesus will return and those of Jewish lineage will see Jesus and mourn.

Matthew 24:29-31 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

This word that has been translated as mourn in this passage of scripture is the primary action word. It means to lament because of loss or be cut off. When Jesus returns there will be a moment when those of Jewish lineage who rejected Jesus as the Messiah will mourn or be cut off. For Jesus is the Messiah, the Anointed One of the Eternal Almighty God.

Yet all those of Jewish lineage and non Jewish lineage who have received Jesus, received God throughout the ages will be gathered together.

The prophecy of the sign of the Messiah’s second coming is: He is coming with the clouds and all will see Him. Even those who rejected Him will see and they will mourn.

Another sign of the Messiah, the Anointed One’s coming is that nation will rise up against nation. That is continual wars and anarchy on earth never seen before.

Let us read what Jesus says will be the sign of His second coming and the end of the age.

Matthew 24:4-8 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Jesus’ concern is that none of His disciples shall be deceived or troubled by the end times. That is the time before His second coming. There will be an unprecedented time of violence and chaos upon the earth. All this is what Jesus calls the beginning of sorrows.

Another prophecy of the sign of the Messiah’s second coming is: There will be wars and rumours of wars where nation will rise up against nation.

Jesus continues.

Matthew 24:9-14 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

There will be great persecution against aspects of the church who are the disciples of Jesus. They will be persecuted because they have received Jesus, received God and His right to rule and reign. This will cause an offence to those who have rejected Jesus, rejected God. But Jesus assures us that whoever receives Jesus, receives God and His right to rule and reign, giving total allegiance to Him will endure to the end.

Another prophecy of the sign of the Messiah’s second coming is: There will be intense persecution, false prophets and lawlessness will abound. Yet the gospel shall be preached in all the world.

Jesus continues.

Matthew 24:15 “Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand)…

Verses 21-22 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.

The abomination of desolation literally means a detestable thing, specifically in this instance, the image or personification of evil. In the end times apocalyptic literature books of Daniel and the Revelation of Jesus, this is referred to as the image or mark of the beast. This image of the beast will be setup in the place of God. As Jesus said the love of many will grow cold and they reject Jesus, reject God on a scale never seen before.

Another prophecy of the sign of the Messiah’s second coming is: There will be great tribulation in the earth.

To sum up: One of the prophecies of the sign of the Messiah, the Anointed One’s second coming is that He will come with the clouds and all will see Him. Even those who rejected Him will see and they will mourn. Before His coming there will be wars and rumours of wars where nation will rise up against nation with an intensity never seen before. There will be intense persecution, with many false prophets attempting to deceive the people. Lawlessness will  abound and there will be great tribulation upon all the earth. Jesus assures those who have received Him, received God to not to be troubled for these things must take place.

Yet in amongst it all, God is with every disciple of Jesus. The gospel will continue to advance across the globe and shall be preached in all the world. For everyone has the right to hear and the right to choose who they worship. But first they must hear the truth. For Jesus is coming back soon. All those who have received Him, received God throughout the ages will enter into life everlasting. With no more tears, no more sickness, no more dieing and no more pain. Together forever in perfect harmony with the Eternal, Almighty God and Jesus the Messiah, the Anointed One, who is faithful and true. Praise His mighty name!
