This week we chose to talk about horror movies based off of or inspired by a true crime!
Sav watched the movie An American Crime, leading her to tell us about Sylvia Likens. With their parents chasing the carnivals, Sylvia and her younger sister were left in the care of a complete stranger. For months the devil herself, Gertrude Baniszewski, along with some of her children and many of the neighbor children tortured, abused, bludgeoned, and eventually murdered 16 year old Sylvia.
Mads watched the movie The Town That Dreaded Sundown based on the Phantom killer in Texarkana in the 1940s. Killing couples along lovers lanes, the Phantom Killer committed a string of murders and murder attempts that were eventually all tied together, although the mystery of who this serial killer was remains unsolved.
