Selina Davis:

Hey, it's your girl, Selina Davis host of Butt Naked wisdom coming to you with another episode. And this is continuation on our Be bold series. And I want us to really talk about magnify your potential, what does that mean magnifying your potential, we focus on weaknesses quite a lot when you either are having a review at work, they tend to focus on your weakness, when we analyze ourselves, we tend to work on the things that we believe are weaker points and never really highlight where we are strong, and how we can maximize the potential within that strength. So I want us to take some time to really look at how we can magnify our potential. And that's really looking at who you are, and the skills that you have. And these skills don't have to be big, they don't have to be groundbreaking. They don't have to, you know, be innovative in a way that nobody else has the skills because you are the human being you are today in the air you are in this world today in the country, you are in the position you are today for the very reason that you were born. So I think is really important that we have to see ourselves as part of the bigger picture of life, and really look at ways that we can magnify the potentials that we have. So I want to give you an example I realized, you know, randomly I was making cakes. And you know, as you do when you have kids, you make cakes. And then it came to me that I really wanted to make a cake that is based on my heritage. And I'm from our part Jamaican, and I know there was a cake that we used to eat quite a lot when I was younger, although it had a lot of alcohol in it is something that was at weddings, christenings and all sorts of stuff. So I attempted in 2019, to actually start making these cakes, which are basically Jamaican rum cakes, and I had soaked the fruit like you're supposed to do. And I actually made these cakes, and I sampled them at my workplace. And I was very intentional with the people that I sampled the cakes with, because I knew that they had a history of this cake in their lives. So they'll be able to give me some honest feedback. So I did that. And the feedback was actually really good. And this is the first time in my whole life. And it's 40 years of living that I had ever made this cake literally ever made this cake. So it really encouraged me that I had an opportunity in my hand. So 2020 came, and I had this cake, the fruit still soak in, but I did nothing with that skill, literally nothing. The whole year nearly came to an end. But looking back at September time where something in my life really triggered me to really start looking at multiple streams of income. So multiple ways in which I could generate finances. So for those that don't know, or don't know, I left my corporate job back in March, the end of March 2020. And this was before the whole world decided to shut down because of COVID and Corona. And I went to pursue my business and my business is in the field of retail merchandising and events, etc. But because the world is closed, a lot of these things weren't happening. So I had to really look at other things that I could do. But when my lights turned off in September, and I was not able to pay my bills, I had to say to myself, I need to find different ways to make money. So I did is I made a decision. And I had done a few things I had written a book, which is a whole nother podcast. I had then decided I'm going to actually set up a store. And and this is on st sapper store. And I did that. And it was such an amazing experience that I realized there was great potential in what I was doing. And of course you are now giving yourself to the world. So no, I'm not controlled by the small people that know me. Now. I'm now exposing myself to over 130 odd people that I have now given my cake to not given it but they purchased my cake to their opinions to whether they like it or they don't like it. And overall the feedback has been great. I have of course received not so great a feedback but something that my adult has told me and this is on another episode that mistakes make your brain grow. And I have utilized those what's not so great reviews or feedback as market research and ways in which I can potentially improve on what I'm doing. So I'm using this as an example to let you know that no matter how small your skill may be, the skill has potential in your life. Now if your potential is writing, you know we are in an era where a lot of things are on digital and people need content so you can utilize your skills With content and engaging with people that potentially need content online, and you could be that source for them, there are so many different skills that we have that we overlook, because they may not require a title or they may not be something that we deem as a extraordinary skill. But it's definitely something that other people need. You may be great at organizing, you may be great at bookkeeping, and you may be great at your own finances, that you can educate other people on what has allowed you to sustain your current situation potentially not being debt, or get out of debt, whatever it may be, you have these skills and need life experiences that other people can learn from. So I hope that this shows you that we can maximize our potential in so many different ways it could be on social media, it could be within your job plays. Now a great Another thing is, you know, I think sometimes we stick into our roles and don't sometimes push ourselves out of the role to learn other skills. Now, you may know that there is a job out for, you know, advertisement, or they've got a vacancy, but there are some skills in that job that you potentially could do. Now, I know, this may mean that you're not going to get a raise. But does this elevate your skills to now put those skills on your resume? Absolutely. So I don't think we should negate opportunities because of finances. But I definitely think that we should seek to push ourselves to maximize our potential in life, and not to be you know, cushioned or in a circle. And I call it like a rat race where you are constantly doing the same thing over and over again, but no within yourself, you have greater skills, or greater potential in life. So I hope that this helps you in a small way to see your full potential to maximize your potential to becoming bolder, so that we can be much better human beings to become much better versions of who we are. So maximize your potential. God bless you speak to you soon, and look forward to speaking to you on our next episode.
