welcome back to his podcast. Today is wednesday, august the 28th. We're back for the podcast we're back.
Speaker 2It's been another two weeks. Again it's 95 degrees outside. What? The fuck hey, it's well, you're getting close to fall time, it's all good fuck it what the fuck hey may not be fall weather yet, but again, I take this I still take this over freezing cold I just I truly and genuinely disagree with you I know we're firing ice on this one, because joe, we're big men, so we're big ass space heaters.
Speaker 1I get it so like I'm walking around at work. I was standing in the shop and and I was sweating. I wasn't moving, I was just sweating.
Speaker 2I know. But just like when you're outside and you're frigid like I'm talking, your mouth shivers so much Like it's involuntary that it's that cold. There's no way in hell I'm going to be convinced that that is okay.
Speaker 1No, that's better. It's so much better Because I'm going to be convinced that that is okay. No, that's better. It's so much better Because I'm not really. You've never really been that cold. Since you don't have to go to the bus stop, no more have you been that cold.
Speaker 2Yes.
Speaker 1Bullshit. I've never been that cold.
Speaker 2This last winter when we had to go outside and do all of our cars all at the same time and it was like negative, that was like legitimately the coldest day possible.
Speaker 1Negative that was like, legitimately the one of the. That was the coldest day possible and we had to go outside to make sure our cars worked and our hands were shivering through our gloves. We had to make sure our cars worked. Those days are so few and far between, again, those it was negative 25.
Speaker 2So bad.
Speaker 1It was negative 25, with a wind chill that made it feel like negative 31.
Speaker 2Yes.
Speaker 1Again. See this. So you say that. But a younger brother was out there chilling, vibing, playing in snow.
Speaker 2Because he's an idiot.
Speaker 1Okay, yeah, what's wrong with that? I wasn't upset. I had to put my car to get hit.
Speaker 2No, it's fine, but it was cold. It was cold. Again, it's my problem. Again, I'm not saying that you're insane.
Speaker 1I'm saying that I'm one of those people that I could live in winter all year round, and honestly, fall ain't that bad.
Speaker 2Fall is amazing. You get crisp weather, get to wear a hoodie, maybe some shorts if it's a little bit warmer out. Fall is the perfect kind of middle ground. It's fall and spring are two perfect middle grounds.
Speaker 1See, this is another problem I have I like wearing pants year-round. Yeah, this is the other thing. I really enjoy wearing pants. So year-round I'm wearing pants, especially because when I go to work I have to wear jeans and they're the big, bulky ones. So when it's hot, it's hot For sure. So I like unlike you fucking lily-livered.
Speaker 2I got to work. No AC, hey, it's all good. Like I said, it's been a minute since we've podcasted. We're here, we're having fun. Starting next week, it'll be two podcasts a week because we'll then be talking about college football again. Well, we're already talking about college football again on top of NFL football, because next week, thursday, first game of the season. So football is upon us. We'll be talking football all the time. Baseball take a back seat. Basketball was gone a while ago.
Speaker 1Judges at 50.
Speaker 251.
Speaker 1He hit his 50th, 51st home run ball. Did you see the video of everyone on the team winning the touchdown? Yeah, everybody was so excited.
Speaker 2That was with the 1,000th hit.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's what it was. It was his 1,000th hit, yeah.
Speaker 2No, he was awesome.
Speaker 1Everybody wanted to touch the ball. Glaber touched it, volway touched it, everyone touched the ball. It was great.
Speaker 2Since you mentioned the Yankees, they have a two now we're like in this little stalemate with Baltimore and I'm like I just want the season to end. Now we're playing some good baseball. We're losing some stupid games we probably shouldn't lose, but there's still a whole monthly worth of games left. There's like 28 more games. So I'm just sitting here like man that baseball season way too long. But again, that's never gonna change. So but yeah, baseball will still be going on. As obviously as they get into the playoffs we'll talk about that more and more. Uh, especially the yankees, because we're, you know, diehard yankee fans here. But uh, yeah, football is gonna be king and that's it'll be mostly our podcast. So we're not. I'm not gonna delay anymore, let's get into our stuff. We have some college ball to talk about.
Speaker 2That already happened. Week zero did happen. There was one marquee game that did happen I keep saying happen and there was a couple other games that went on. I didn't really watch those as much, but I do want to talk about this one because it's a big one. Georgia Tech upsets Florida State 24-21. It was in Dublin, ireland, so it was a neutral site game and from the get-go, I think JC, you and I both kind of mentioned this at the same time. Georgia Tech beat the crap out of Florida State on the offensive and defensive lines. Georgia Tech.
Speaker 1Look, the announcer said it Georgia Tech does not look like a football team that is going to lose today. Right, because Georgia Tech went in there and at first they were just kind of doing what they normally do. Then they started throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sucked and they found something that stuck and they kept doing it. They kept running the football man. They did, and they went straight down Florida's throat. Man.
Speaker 2It was insane, no questions asked. When you have DJ Uyunglele as a starter for Florida State, you kind of know what he is right now, right. So, like when they brought him in as a transfer from Oregon State, which he's been at, this is third school. Now the question for most Florida State fans and fans in general is can he push the ball down the field? Can he be a more prolific passer? And going into this game he really wasn't that like.
Speaker 2He had one drive he was able to kind of push the ball down the field a little more and that was like the last drive Florida State had to kind of tie the game back up. He was gonna push the ball down the field a little bit but, like for the most part, it seemed like they didn't trust him. I think there was one at one point in this game. They were averaging negative one error yards per pass, so most of their pass was going to their running backs and I'm not totally sure if it was they didn't trust DJ enough or it was they don't trust their wide receivers enough. Who knows how that kind of goes.
Speaker 2Obviously, a coach will never say that. They'll never say exactly who was the cause for not having that trust in the offense to kind of do their thing. And not to mention, I think Georgia Tech had to give them a lot of credit here. Not only they run the football extremely well, like that, like down their throat, and oh, also, to mention, both quarterbacks didn't really throw interceptions like they both kept, they took care of the football because they weren't really putting the football in harm's way. They didn't like they didn't throw any like passes that you're like oh that should have been a pick.
Speaker 2No, they were in support of the football.
Speaker 1It's raining, so I'm going to be controlled and concise with the football and they were.
Speaker 2There was only one sack that happened in this game and it was for Georgia Tech, and the running backs got a lot of work for both teams. So back to what I was saying about Georgia Tech, Haynes King, the quarterback for them. He not only was able to throw the football and like put it in some good spots when necessary, but he also was getting a lot of tough yardage rushing the football. He had 54 yards rushing and like it seemed like every time they needed some, like it was like a broken play he was able to get out and get a couple, get a couple yards off of it. So he played very well.
Speaker 2And Georgia Tech's defense it just seemed like every time they needed a big stop. And Georgia Tech's defense it just seemed like every time they needed a big stop it was their linebackers and their corners having a one-on-one tackle where it's like, hey, it's either I tackle you or you get a first down and extend this drive. They were making a lot more one-on-one tackles to kind of end drives in a way that Florida State was not able to, and a lot of people were talking about how Florida State might have one of the best defensive lines in college football this year it did not look like that. They were getting beat off the ball a lot. They were getting the ball rushed down their throat and it all seemed like they just weren't getting after the passer as much as you think they probably should, with the hype that they had coming into the season, which is something.
College Football Team Building and Predictions
Speaker 1I do want to say this they showed where they got all their players from, which is one thing I want to talk about. Florida State built an entire team to a transfer portal. Yeah, most of their team was a lot of transfers for sure, and it doesn't unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. There was no cohesiveness. That team didn't play like a team. It played like a bunch of individual players.
Speaker 2You know what? I heard this and it kind of made sense. Florida State was playing like a team that was still trying to figure out what they are.
Speaker 1And.
Speaker 2Georgia Tech came in with a lot of guys that came in from last year. They know who they are Sophomores.
Speaker 1You have probably a couple seniors. It's a team that is built to be cohesive. They gel well together in a way that if what Florida State is trying to do is what Michigan State used to be really good at, but Michigan State was good at, we're going to bring in 20 transfers and then have 35 guys we've already had and we're going to mix them in. That's how you build a team like that. There wasn't a single player on their defensive line that came from their school. It was University of Miami, alabama, alabama, georgia, texas. Their school there was. It was uh, university, miami, uh, alabama, alabama, georgia, texas. Every single one of their players did not come from their school unless I'm talking about their offense.
Speaker 2Dj, like I said, came in from coming from oregon state. Their best running back came from alabama. Obviously, their wide receivers and I think the good portion of them were all from other places too. So, like they have a lot of and, like you just said, it's hard to bring in a bunch of transfers and kind of have a cohesive team like in again, like we're. We'll start trying to figure out what we are.
Speaker 2And when you're going into the first game of the season, you feel like, hey, we should be able to not have our best game and still beat a team like georgia tech. But georgia tech come, came in knowing what they are. And when it seemed like Florida State, when they tied that game late in the fourth quarter it was like with six minutes left they gave the ball back to Georgia Tech. You know what Georgia Tech did. They were like, hey, this six minutes, we are going to use every single second of it by running the football down their throat and we are going to kick the game-winning field goal to end this out and make sure Florida State doesn't get that ball back. And it was a time where Florida State, with whatever pride they had left on defense should have been like, hey, we need to stop here. And they weren't able to get it against Georgia Tech. And that's the biggest thing against them is that you can have all the talent in the world, but at the end of the day, you need football players to go out there and do the job right. So you can have all the stars, but you need you need real football players to go out there and make plays, and Georgia Tech had more of those football players than Florida State did. And that's just how it goes and it's not like like. I think the going thing was that, hey, georgia Tech is better than Florida State. I don't think you can necessarily can say that if you play this game five more times, who knows how many more times, who knows how many more times Georgia Tech kind of comes out and wins that game, but they took advantage of their one shot and they went out there and shocked the world. So all the credit goes to Georgia Tech. Florida State has some work to do. I never looked at them as like a playoff contender in the first place, but there were some people that did look at them like that. Now they have some reevaluating to do. But again, I just think with all these transfers it is not going to work all the time. Especially when you're kind of putting piecing together your team one one year at a time, it's not necessarily how things should go all right.
Speaker 2Um, next thing, there's any other other games talk about. So well, at least not from that we already watched. So I want to do our predictions for all this and then talk about the next week's games that sound good, well, this upcoming games this week. So next we can just give our predictions for the conference championship games, winners and wild cards. I will give mine, jason. Did you actually do this one, the? You have your 12, but did you do, like the championship games? Who you think would be playing for the championship for each conference?
Speaker 1I have the 12 because I thought that would be the winner of their conference, the first four, the winner of the conferences you're not wrong.
Speaker 2I think I just went one step deep once you did both teams.
Speaker 1Yeah, I could think of a second team. I'll just go with mine and you just gotta give you because that's the thing the second team's gonna be in the 12th. Yeah, that's why I was a little and I have wildcards too.
Speaker 2So I went a little overboard.
Speaker 1Maybe I don't know college football, the 12 teams on my list, I didn't know half of them existed.
College Football Playoff Bracket Discussion
Speaker 2I'm not gonna go crazy but I'm just gonna let you know SEC championship game I, texas and georgia, with georgia being the champion. Um with I think tennessee is the wild card team in the sec because they have, uh, nico ayami yava. I is the quarterback for them. He's like looked at as like the truth. He's supposed to be very good for them if he can be that guy coming out this season. He plays very, very well, not trying to football over. Tennessee can be a very explosive team that can beat a lot of teams. They do have to play Georgia, they have to play Alabama so they can play spoiler for a lot of teams as well as they can. I think I look at them and see they can potentially win nine, 10 games in their season and definitely be in the playoff. Or they can just be another Tennessee team that has a lot of hype and doesn't really do all that well and lose a few more games than that. But that's the wild card team I have for the SEC. Would Georgia be the champion? Big Ten I have OSU and Oregon facing off in the Big Ten championship game, obviously Ohio State naturally being the Big Ten champ, and I have Nebraska as the wild card for the Big Ten because they have Dylan Rayola, the freshman phenom, coming in. He was committed to Ohio State, flipped from there to go to Georgia and then he flipped from Georgia to go to Nebraska and it just seems like, with a guy as talented as he is, if he can come out and just play okay football, on top of the fact that Nebraska has a bunch of their defensive players coming back Offensively they weren't getting great last year but again they didn't have a quarterback to really run their offense. So if he can come in and play decent football they can have a chance to start the season 7-0. Going into Columbus to have to play Ohio State, so they could really play. Spoiler for a lot of teams they're not going to beat Ohio State, but they could have an option to really make some noise throughout the Big Ten this year. So I have them as a wild card team, or Dylan Rolo doesn't play as well and they have some growing pains, especially on offense. So they are a wild card team for the Big Ten.
Speaker 2Acc I have Miami and Clemson playing in the championship game for the ACC. I have Miami winning that game, winning the conference, and I have NC State as the wildcard team for there. They have a lot of hype behind them, becoming one of the better teams in the ACC and I just think, with some of the big boys ahead of them, I just thought that NC State would be a team that could play spoiler for a lot of teams, if not make the ACC championship game and make some noise there. So that's the wildcard team for them. Last but not least, I got the big 12. I got utah and k-state going at it, with utah being the winner of that one, coming in from the pack 12 and winning the big 12 the first season. Uh, and then I have oklahoma state as the wild card for that, because oklahoma state's always a very good team. They have Ollie Gordon as their running back, who's a very good player. Will they overuse him? Will they use him just enough? Because he's a very explosive running back. If they use him enough and he's able to have a great season, they could be a team that can play spoiler for a lot of teams, potentially make the Big 12 championship game, and I think the big 12 being a team without like an obvious blue blood superpower Now that Texas and Oklahoma left, I do think that this is a conference that is kind of wild, where it seems like every team has a shot to go ahead and make some noise if you're good enough.
Speaker 2So, like, the big 12 is going to be a lot of fun to watch, especially with all the different types of offenses that they're going to be playing in this, in this conference. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch, especially with all the different types of offenses that they're going to be playing in this, in this conference. It's gonna be a lot of fun to watch this, uh, but I just think utah, with consistency with the great head coach they have, is going to be able to come in and win the big 12 in their first year there. Um, and that's all I got. Jace, have any thoughts on that? Or you just want to go to the 12th?
Speaker 1I don't know ball, bro. I don't know college football.
Speaker 2That's okay, that's okay.
Speaker 1Goddamn nigga. I don't know shit about college football. You named like three teams that ain't on your motherfucking list. Because I don't know shit.
Speaker 2Again, I went too far. I said I did. I said I was the one that kind of took a few extra steps. I've been doing this for a couple days, trying to make sure we have a good podcast here today. All right, 12 team playoff going in a national championship game. You want to go first or you want me?
Speaker 1to go. I'll go first. I have Georgia, I have Ohio State, I have Miami, I have the University of Tennessee. Yeah, tennessee, that's Utah, is it?
Speaker 2Tennessee yeah.
Speaker 1Tennessee, that's Utah, it's Utah, utah, ut, utah. I have Oregon. I have Notre Dame, I have Tennessee. I have Texas. I have Florida State, I have Penn State. I have Penn State. I have other team, I have Liberty. You say other team, Other team. I didn't have 12. I couldn't think of 12.
Speaker 2You just listed out the 12 in order. Huh, you didn't even try to bracket them up. Who do you think is going to win the national championship?
Speaker 1Oh, Georgia, you think?
Speaker 2Georgia is going to win the national championship. Yeah.
Speaker 1I think it won't be you.
Speaker 2Okay, thanks for being a hater at all times. I know, I think it's your quarterback play.
Speaker 1I think your quarterback play is going to hold you back, in the same way that I think your wide receiver room has only gotten worse without Marvin Harrison being there. Marvin Harrison is your perennial star. Currently, emeka Ibuka is your only veteran wide receiver. Jeremiah is supposed to be that dude, though I agree. I'm not disagreeing with that. Your team is not going to put unproven product onto the field, especially at receiver.
Speaker 2Oh no, especially at receiver oh no, he's starting. They already said he's starting, I understand. Okay, stop sucking them off and let me finish the statement.
Speaker 1My bad, my apologies. Your team's not going to put an unproven product on the field, but I don't know what your ass secondary is going to be. It's not going to be, not that I don't know. Again, I I don't know.
Speaker 2I don't know football.
Speaker 1I don't know college football. I don't know. You know what? I do know Georgia's one of the two national champions. They've been back-to-back national champions, so I don't know. I know what I can see. I know what I have seen. I saw you miss the kick.
Speaker 2That was two seasons ago and it still hasn't hit the goalpost.
Speaker 1It haunts me.
Speaker 2Yeah, that was two seasons ago and it still hasn't hit the goalpost. It haunts me, yeah, I know it haunts me to this day.
Speaker 1It haunts me too. Happy New Year to me. That was too happy New Year's ago, bud, and it'll never happen again.
Speaker 2It comes down to it, boy.
Speaker 1If it comes down to it, I will beat your fucking ass.
Speaker 2Yeah, but if it was your team, you'd be doing the exact same thing never be my team, and I'm okay with that.
Speaker 1So I put Georgia as one. I believe they're going to win the national championship.
Speaker 2Again.
Speaker 1I don't know what the fuck's happening. I don't know who the fuck's on Georgia's team. I don't know who the fuck's on your team. I know Emeka Obuka.
Speaker 2Most talented team in the college football. Sure, that's who. Ohio State is, whatever.
Speaker 1I don't give a fuck, because Ryan Day has not proven he can coach in the biggest moments. He has lost the biggest game. It's not his fault. The kick was missed. No, it's not, but he definitely had a more talented team.
Speaker 2Yeah, the Ohio State played better than Georgia in that whole game.
Speaker 1And you didn't win.
Speaker 2Yeah, because they knocked out Marvin Harrison and didn't give them the penalty, and I agree.
Speaker 1But again, your team was so much was overtly more talented. It should have never been close and it was.
Speaker 2It would have been if Marvin Harris was in the game and I know, but again, your team was more talented.
Speaker 1Despite the fact he wasn't there, your team was still more talented. The game should have never been that close to begin with. With or without Marvin Harrison, you had the better offense. Your defense was solid. It should have never been that close.
Speaker 2Our defense led up with too many big plays that year. I agree.
Speaker 1And that's fine, but again, all I've ever seen Ohio State do is lose to Georgia. So I don't know. Okay, and then I don't know anything about the rest of these teams. I didn't even spell out their names right. I didn't spell Oregon. I spelled Oregon, not Oregon.
Speaker 2Yeah, I got you.
Speaker 1But Oregon. Yeah, notor, n-o-t-o-r, I spell Tenassi, taxes. Florida, okay, penn, but P-E-N Goodness gracious. And then I don't even have 12 teams, I have 11.
Speaker 2You said other team, that was wild, I didn't have.
Speaker 1I couldn't think of another team name. All right, let me give you mine the only one that kept coming to mind was fucking Yul Monroe, and I was like I can't think of shit.
Speaker 2I'll give you mine. I'll give you 12 through 1. Liberty at 12. Ole Miss at 11. I got K-State at 10. Yeah, kansas State, I have CleState at 10. Kansas, yeah, kansas State. I have Clemson at 9,. Tennessee at 8,. Penn State at 7,. Oregon is a 6 seed. 5 seed is Texas. I have 4 seed being Utah. I have the 3 seed being Miami, the 2 seed being Georgia, the 1 seed being Ohio State. I got, and then so I have those, because obviously I did my whole bracket put out and everything. So Texas and Liberty play in the first round, texas won, clemson and Tennessee play in the first round and Tennessee wins that game You're hard on.
Speaker 1For college football it's unreasonable.
Speaker 2Yeah, it is. I have Ole Miss and Oregon playing in the first round. Oregon wins that. I got Penn State and K-State playing each other.
Speaker 1Yeah, it is as you smile hard as shit bro.
Speaker 2What the fuck? I love this stuff.
Speaker 1I don't see you getting more excited about anything else but college football. Bro, you're fucking bursting at the seams, yeah.
Speaker 2It's only because I can be less excited because of how the Steelers season is going to go. I feel like it might go bad. K-state and Penn State play in the first round. I have K-State winning that game, even though Penn State's a better team, because Penn State likes to lose games they probably should be good in. So they get to the playoff. They'll get what they've always wanted. They'll get into the playoff and they'll lose each other.
Speaker 2I got Texas winning that one. Tennessee gets the unfortunate matchup of having to play Ohio state in the second round. Ohio state will win that. Oregon has to face Miami in the second round. I'm going to go with Oregon. Um, and then K state ends up playing Georgia in the second round. Unfortunately, they're going to get their butts kicked by Georgia. Semi-final, the final four. I got Texas playing Ohio State. Ohio State wins that. And then I have Oregon playing Georgia. I got Georgia winning that. And then the national championship game. I got Ohio State beating that demon. Ryan Day is going to get that big win he needs and we're going to win the national championship. That's what I got. That's everything I know you don't think it's going to be Ohio.
Speaker 1State. Sorry, I just realized I'm going to have to go through the same bangles situation that I went through with Cincinnati, that I'm about to go through Michigan State. I'm always going to be just on the outside looking in, because I'm not as good as the best teams in my division, but I'm not as bad as the teams outside my division.
Speaker 2Not division. There's no more divisions.
Speaker 1Are we still the Big Ten?
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Then it's the division.
Speaker 2That's conference. What's the difference? Conferences used to be separated into divisions. Are we a?
Speaker 1different division of football from the ACC.
Speaker 2Different conference.
Speaker 1Are we a different division? No Are. Are we a different?
Speaker 2division no.
Speaker 1Are division and conference synonymous? Yes, okay, they can be. I guess they are.
Speaker 2Depends on how you look at it.
Speaker 1It depends on how the fuck the dictionary works. What the fuck is wrong with you? I ain't got to look at shit. If I pull up a book called fucking synonymsorg, it'll bring me fucking synonyms for divisions, and one of them is going to be whatever the fuck. The other one was called conference, dumb nigga.
Ohio State Football Season Preview
Speaker 2All right, any big problems with what I had? You already said you don't know, nigga. I don't know what the fuck we're talking about. I was giving you an opportunity to hate. I was giving you an opportunity to hate.
Speaker 1I was giving you an opportunity to hate on me.
Speaker 2Hate on what? Ohio State? Because you hate me at all times.
Speaker 1Again, I don't know. I don't know, I'm trying to beat FAU tomorrow.
Speaker 2We'll talk about that in a second. But let me get my rocks off for Ohio State real quick and then I'll let you talk about Michigan State. No, no, no.
Speaker 1Anything but that.
Speaker 2Let me get my rocks off.
Speaker 1No do it later, do it off podcast.
Speaker 2I got blue balls.
Speaker 1Dude, just talk into the mic off podcast please.
Speaker 2No, I got scarlet and gray balls. Right now I have to release. I fucking hate this team bro.
Speaker 1I fucking hate this team.
Speaker 2So Ohio State bringing in Will Howard to be the starter for our team.
Speaker 1I'm going to shoot myself and it will be more enjoyable.
Speaker 2I think he will play well. I think he will be better than what we had last year, because I think his running ability is going to be a very big add for this team, on top of the fact that he's played five years in college football, so he's seen a lot of football and we all saw how the Heisman went last year. He had a bunch of players that have played a ton of football, kind of there at the end of the season playing their best ball. We have the best running back room in the nation. We have a great wide receiver room. Yes, it may be unproven, but I do think, with Emeka Buka leading, it will definitely give us some veteran leadership. On top of that, we have JJ Jeremiah Smith coming in being. Everybody talks about him being the best wide receiver prospect to come into college football since Julio Jones. We have Carnell Tate, who was another great wide receiver that honestly nobody talks about, but he came in and played as more as a freshman than Marvin Harrison did as a freshman when he came in freshman than Marvin Harrison did as a freshman when he came in. So the fact that he was able to last year, able to break the lineup and play as much as he did only means he is that talented of a guy and coming into year two, I think last year the only thing that really stopped him was injury. So coming into year two he should be that much better and be ready to represent for zone six, and then our offensive line should play better.
Speaker 2I feel like we have a ton of guys. We only had to replace one guy on our offensive line this season. We brought in a transfer from Alabama. He's going to be very good. He had a snapping issue last year who was like what everybody talked about when he was with Bama, but from all that I have read and seen, he has fixed it. It hasn't been an issue. He'll be ready to go and he's going to be a welcome voice of veteran leadership for that offensive line to kind of gel together and play very well. They're going to be able to run people over.
Ohio State Football Dominance Ahead
Speaker 2Let's not talk about the fact that they have Chip Kelly. That came in as the offensive coordinator. He was a great hire. He's going to be able to Ryan Day as great as he is as an offensive coordinator and his passing game concepts are amazing. He coordinator and his passing game concepts are amazing. He's able to put together a passing game very well, but what Chip Kelly brings in as the new offensive coordinator, he's able to supplement in the running game in a way that Ryan Day wasn't necessarily the same when it comes to his creativity and stuff like that. So Chip Kelly will be able to come in here, get the running game going and he will be able to not only bring physicality, toughness, because he's done that. Wherever he's been, no matter what place he's been, he's been one of the best rushing offenses in college football in the NFL. Wherever he's been, he's brought rushing offenses better. He made them better. So I do think he's going to be able to do that on top of what Ryan Day already has in passing concepts, and we're going to be able to gel that to become a freaking juggernaut on offense, maybe not to start the season, but by the end of the season. We are going to be a juggernaut to stop, especially in the red zone, with us being able to run the quarterback as well.
Speaker 2Defensively, we're going to have the best secondary in college football. We had a good secondary last year. Guess what? We added Caleb Downs, the best player from Alabama. We just bring him in to our roster to come play safety and be kind of like the versatile piece that can pretty much do whatever is necessary. If you need him to be a ball hawk, he'll do that. If you need him to sit there and run somebody over and stop the run, he can do that. And for, as athletic as he is, he never makes a bad mistake when it comes to his technique or being in the wrong spot. He's not that. He's a very smart player and adding him to an already good defense is going to be amazing.
Speaker 2We already had a great set of corners. We are three to four deep in the cornerback room to where all of them can come in and play right away and play against a number one wide receiver and they can hold their own. So the fact that we can have that in our cornerback room is going to be amazing. And not to mention, there's not going to be a lot of wide receiver rooms that are going to be able to challenge what we have in our quarterback room. And then defensive line we have a veteran JTT is back, jt Tuamalau. We have Jack Sawyer is back. He's going to be great. He kind of came on at the end of last season started playing well, started playing very well. He'll be ready to go from the start of the season this year.
Speaker 2And then we have amazing defensive tackles. We're three, four or five deep on that and I feel like we're going to be bigger. We're going to be able to stop the run where we get after the passer and we're going to start. I think the one problem with Ohio CZ from last year is that we didn't cause a lot of turnovers because our defensive line wasn't really getting after the passer as well. I do feel like that's going to change this year. On top of the fact that our secondary is already good, our defensive line will be able to get after him, not to mention at linebacker.
Speaker 2Sonny Stiles made the switch from a safety to linebacker, so now his 6'4 frame. He fits perfectly there. He can eat a little more, he fills his body out a little better. He's going to be a monster playing at linebacker. Cj Hicks is going to be a monster going after the quarterback. We have talent oozing from everywhere. So I do feel like, as long as we handle this season well, we play our young guys when necessary to kind of build some necessary depth.
Speaker 2When we have this opportunity. Our schedule works out very well to where we can start off the season slow. Our defense will be able to manage and our offense will be able to come on slowly and then by week seven, when we play Oregon at Oregon, we'll be able to be our best selves and go and win that game and we will show everybody Ohio State is going to be the best team in the country and we're going to be able to do it without cheating and stealing signs. The best team in the country and we're going to be able to do it without cheating and stealing signs. Sorry, I got my rocks off about Ohio State. Now we can go on to Michigan State. What are you looking forward to? Tomorrow, jace? Not tomorrow Friday, jace, I'm done now. I've got my rocks off. We're all good.
Speaker 1I have to look forward towards something.
Speaker 2Michigan State plays FAU on Friday. I feel like that should be something to look forward to. Fau's not a bad team. They're good offensively. I think defensively they're a little lacking. But I do feel like you have Aiden Childs quarterback. I feel like you can be very excited about him. He'll probably be the best quarterback that you've seen since Cook. Connor Cook no, what's his name? He was your quarterback when you guys got to the playoff.
Speaker 1Dude, I was 10.
Speaker 2You weren't 10.
Speaker 1What year was that? That would have been 2015. I't 10. What year was that?
Speaker 2That would have been 2015.
Speaker 1I was 10. I wasn't even 11 yet, I was 10.
Speaker 2I'm pretty sure it was Connor Cook. You were old enough to root for Michigan State at that point. I was old enough to hate you.
Speaker 1We both know what that was.
Speaker 2You haven't had a good quarterback since then and I do feel, like Hayden Childs, my hate for you created my undying fucking dumbass for Michigan State.
Speaker 1Same reason why I love the Bengals, because I hate you.
Speaker 2I know.
Speaker 1I'm aware. I'm better because of it, I'm a Super Bowl contender, now that you lucked out for Joe Burrow yeah, I get that. Lucked out? Yeah, you did. We lost 15 games that season. We didn't luck out, we earned that and then lost 12 games. The next year and got tomorrow's chase and we went to the fucking Super Bowl. You know what our whole plan was. We're going to sling that bitch downfield. You know what our whole plan is about to be Sling that bitch downfield, but better.
Speaker 2I'm talking about Michigan State right now. What are you looking forward to?
Speaker 1The end of the game.
Speaker 2With a dub hopefully.
Speaker 1We're not beating FAU. You'll beat FAU, you're 14-point favorites.
Speaker 2You should do that. We're not beating FAU. You'll beat FAU. You're 14-point favorites. You should do that. You should get the job done. You'll have a better coach. You'll have a better quarterback.
Speaker 1We almost fucking lost to Eastern Michigan last year. That was with a different coach, a different quarterback. We did lose to Central Michigan last year. No, we beat Central Michigan first game of the year. Stop talking about the past. We lost to Eastern Michigan, stop. We lost to Eastern.
Speaker 2Michigan. Stop talking about the past. It's only about the future. New quarterback, new coach, new system. You bring in a new culture. It's all good. You may not be the best.
Speaker 1He didn't even know where our team was located when he got here.
Speaker 2He had to have if he got here.
Speaker 1True, but he didn't know anything about East Lansing. I don't know shit about East Lansing, it doesn't matter, didn't know anything about East Lansing?
Speaker 2I don't know shit about East Lansing, it doesn't matter. He's a great coach. That's done very well everywhere he's been. I do feel like he'll be a good. Where was he last? Oregon State.
Speaker 1What division is that in?
Speaker 2Pac-12.
Speaker 1Oh See, over here in the Big Ten there's more than two teams.
Speaker 2Well, now. Oh so you can't be. The Pac-12 had a full conference last year. So Of who? Usc, Washington, Oregon, Stanford, yeah, a lot of teams.
Speaker 1Okay, was he within the top five?
Speaker 2Yeah, no, he won 10 games there.
Speaker 1That's not impressive.
Speaker 2Yeah, it is. It's more than what you've seen.
Speaker 1We're in a harder conference.
Speaker 2Yeah, that you had to play Michigan and Ohio State every year, but guess what? You don't have to do that this year.
Speaker 1And yet I'm still playing both of you this year. So please go fuck yourself.
Speaker 2I don't think you are.
Speaker 1Okay, go, I don't think you are Okay. Go ahead and pull that up for me. I have it right here.
Speaker 2The game's pinned. You play Ohio State for sure. Yes, oh yeah, you do.
Speaker 1Holy crap, I know you got screwed schedule-wise, oh wow, thank you, thank you so much, thank you so fucking much. I have to play in a row, by the way. Ohio State, oregon, iowa, michigan.
Speaker 2What the fuck? What do you mean, dude? Those are four bad ones, but I bet on you to win six games.
Speaker 1I don't think I can beat Maryland. I might beat Boston College. I might beat Indiana. I might beat Boston College. I might be Indiana. I will not be Illinois, okay, and I might beat Rutgers One, and I might beat Purdue.
Speaker 2I only need six wins for my bet to hit. So I bet on you, I bet on your team to do the job we are going to go six and six.
Speaker 1That's all I need, like we do every year and do nothing else. We don't win seven games. Okay, because we got y'all four niggas right in the middle. Just be a little positive bro, it is a four-game losing streak Guaranteed, yeah.
Speaker 2Dude what the fuck am I.
Speaker 1What do I be positive about?
Speaker 2It's a slow burn. You're gonna build. This season will build into next season, which will build into the season after that.
Speaker 1This season will build into the next season, where you start to play all these fucking teams, but now they're still better than you.
Speaker 2Yeah, You're just trying to get it a little better inch by inch, bro. Inch by inch. You should know this. You play EO Monroe in college football. You should understand that it's a slow burn. But once you get there, you'll get there bro, I got you.
Speaker 1That is a simulation where I'm going to sling that bitch downfield as many times as I fucking want.
Speaker 2Because you know what happens if I start losing, I can leave the fucking game.
Speaker 1I'm restarting this bitch. I played second-ranked Tennessee 31 times 31 motherfucking times I did not beat Tennessee.
Speaker 2I can only imagine Jonathan Smith, the coach for Michigan State, after they're down 21-0 to Ohio State in the first quarter, him going across the field like hey, ryan Day, can we just restart this game?
Speaker 1right, quick, like bro. There's a difference With you and Monroe. The thing was that team was so bad, the expectation was I was going to lose nine games, right. So the fact I won eight games was impressive. Eight straight up games. The next year, when they gave me a ranked opponent and then ranked me, guess what happened? I got my shit kicked in and I was like let's go to the big 12. I'm not nigga. And guess what fucking happened that first year, 6-6. Right now I am at 7-0. I'm third in the nation. I played the Sun Devils eight times before I figured out how to read a fucking linebacker. You saw me play that game. I could not, for the fucking life of me, could not figure out why the fuck I kept throwing interceptions because I couldn't read a fucking linebacker in safety. Yeah, you know what I just learned to do during that game Read a linebacker in safety. Oh shit, that motherfucker's breaking.
Speaker 2I shouldn't chuck this bitch Right.
Speaker 1I should just run for it, Take the couple yards Camper or check that yes, Check that yes.
Speaker 2No.
Speaker 1I can't do that. They can't do that in real life. No, they can't, that's not an option. We can't be down 42 at halftime and be like hey, all I'll say is quit being a bitch, bro, let's reset. No, we got to take that L and then go to next week to fucking Iowa and take a bigger L and watch them. Niggas only score eight points Like that is.
Speaker 2They'll score 17, but you'll score three.
Speaker 1They may score 10 points, but I'm not scoring more than 10.
Speaker 2Yep.
Speaker 1So I'm going to have to watch this defensive slugfest, where my defense ain't that good, yeah, but Iowa's defense is so good that there ain't shit I can do. I just have to sit here and watch Die. I have to to sit here and die I have to die slowly Die, slowly they're giving, they're stabbing me with, like the fucking retractable knife, yeah, and it won't stick. Yet it won't stick. It's sharp, it just won't stick you yet yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah no, I don't want to fucking do that. This is why, if my season's going, if I ever go off and I'm losing eight games and I start losing eight games, I'm sending the season. Fuck. Recruiting them niggas ain't committing anyway. Fuck it, I'm done. You can't do that in real life. I know I have to. For 12 fucking weeks I have to live with this shit. Yeah See, there's a fucking difference and I'm guaranteed four fucking losses. If I lose seven, I'm not making a bowl game. And if I don't make a bowl game, we're going to be looking at this nigga like I think you're going to make a bowl game.
Speaker 2I truly believe it. I truly do.
Speaker 1I haven't graced six wins in three years. I bet my hard-earned money that this motherfucker, kenny Walker's coming up on a contract year before I'm about to make another fucking bowl game. I got you, you're going to be good.
Speaker 2I swear, and you wasted your money.
Speaker 1Yeah, I did. You, dumb fuck.
Speaker 2You're going to win six games. All I need is six wins. All I need. That's all I need.
Speaker 1Name three offensive players on my team right now.
Speaker 2AGiles. Oh, I might have another one for you, you could probably name the running back. Oh, I might have another one for you. You could probably name the running back, oh it starts with an N Carter, carter Nate. Carter yes, let's go. You need one more, I got.
Speaker 1Let me preface this I cannot give you one more. Antonio Gates Jr. He does not play for me yes, he does.
Speaker 2Yes, he does. Yes, he does. Ha ha, I did. Yes, he does. Yes, he does. I did it. Antonio Gates Jr. Wide receiver, son of Antonio Gates, senior, the great tight end from the Chargers Aha, I win, dubs.
Speaker 2I just want you to be a little bit positive about your team, man.
Speaker 2That's it, because, guess what, when Friday comes and it's 7 o'clock and your team will start playing, I'll be watching because I have money on the line and I'll be rooting for your team to win and I, honestly, am a decent person as of right now.
Speaker 2I haven't said I've always been a decent person when it comes to cheering and not cheering for your team, but I do usually root for your team to do well as long as they're not playing Ohio State. So I'll be watching the game with you and I'll be ready, ready there, ready to root for you like crazy, because I want to see you be able to watch your team and have some fun with it. That's it, and I do feel like with the better quarterback, with a new head coach, is able to kind of put a team together that you'll be able to have some fun, watch some games. That's it. That's all I can ask for. When it comes to your team, my team, team I have crazy expectations. I'm like my stomach's in knots and all that. So you know all that, it'll be fun.
Speaker 1I can't spell Michigan.
Speaker 2Want me to help you with that?
Speaker 1No, it's just something I feel like everybody should know. I cannot spell Michigan.
Georgia vs. Clemson Preview
Speaker 2All right, I'm going to run through some of the games that are going to be good for this upcoming week. Give my thoughts on them. You can jump in when you like. So this upcoming week, we already talked about the Michigan state game on Friday, saturday, august 31st. We're going to just go go down the list, give some thoughts and all that. So, one of the biggest games of the day Clemson going to Georgia Actually, no, this is in Atlanta, so this is actually not at Georgia, but again, it's in the state, so it doesn't really matter. Clemson Georgia. Georgia's like a 7-point favorite. No, georgia's a 14-point favorite in this game. Is Georgia going to be the same on defense or are they going to be a little bit young and not able to play all that well? Clemson? Can they play better offensively? Can K-Club make their quarterback play mistake-free football and not turn the football over? Who knows? Is their wide receiver going to look like what Clemson used to have a wide receiver? That's a question that has yet to be answered.
Speaker 1I think their most recent really good receiver was T Higgins.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1And that was four years ago. Yeah Damn, at least that's the most recent receiver. I can remember them really having.
Speaker 2Right, I think, with the quarterback that they have for Georgia. Why am I forgetting the guy's name? It's Brock.
Speaker 1Oh, no Bowers, nope, purdy Lesnar.
Speaker 2Nope, I'm stupid. Carson Beck. Carson Beck's our starter. That's not Brock at all. I know I knew it as soon as I said it I was wrong, carson Beck being one of the better quarterbacks In college football. Coming back, it wasn't even fucking close. I know I knew it as soon as I said it I was wrong, carson Beck being one of the better quarterbacks in college football coming back Wasn't even fucking close. Yeah, I know, as soon as I said it, I'm like, oh, that's wrong.
Speaker 1And then he jumped on it.
Speaker 2He looked even more stupid. Carson Beck coming back, will he be able to take the next step and really be that dude to kind of lead this Georgia offense, really be that dude to kind of lead this Georgia offense? I'm not sure. They're not sure whether they're going to have their top two running backs for this game, so they might be a little bit thin at running back. Their wide receivers are known to be like they're looked at to be, a little more explosive than they have been in years past. So can Georgia play against that very good Clemson defense and keep making plays and get down the field and get into the instead of field goals is going to be the big question for them. I would probably pick Georgia to win this game, because Georgia just never comes out and plays terribly in the first game and I think Clemson might have a little bit more of a grace period that they need in order to play some better football. But I do think that Clemson defense is going to be very good to make this game close. It's just, can that Clemson offense come to play some better football? But I do think that Clemson defense is going to be very good to make this game close. It's just can that Clemson offense come to play and play some good football is the big question for me and I'm not sure about that. So that's why I'm going to Georgia.
Speaker 2Penn State West Virginia play, also at noon. Penn State should win this game, but again they're at West Virginia, so they're going to be in a hostile environment. Can Penn State make some strides offensively, with Drew Aller being their quarterback? He played decently well last year, but not against the best teams they played Did not play well, but he was able to feast on teams that are not as good as them. Can he take that next step to really be a well-developed passer that can kind of make throws all over the field and not really just feast on the bad teams? That's going to be a question for Penn State. Penn State defense is always pretty good. Their secondary is going to be kind of young and inexperienced, but they're going to be talented. So is West Virginia going to be able to take advantage of that secondary? It's going to be a big question. Not to mention Penn State's defensive line is going to be very good, beefy, ready to stop the run. So West Virginia is going to be able to have to make their make a lot of damage offensively through the air. Are they going to be able to? Is going to be the big question for them. Penn State should win this game but again, Penn State likes to lose games when it if a team tends to play decently well and be matched up against them. So who knows how that's going to go Next game? Obviously, Ohio State already mentioned them. They're not really playing. They're playing akron. They're 50 point favorites. They should blow them out without much of an issue.
Speaker 2Miami and florida play each other this one. Miami is coming in think with a lot of hype behind them that they're going to win the conference. You got florida coming in with a freaking insane schedule that they have this. It's insanely hard. So is this an opportunity for Florida to come in and get a win early on in the season, Because later on this year it's going to be a little bit harder for them to get those same wins.
Speaker 2So this one might be able to give them a leg up on this season. That may not be great for them, but it's a win that will help morale. Or will Miami come in with their great quarterback and all the money they spent in an IL and a very talented team Miami is. Are they going to be able to go into Florida hostile environment and get the job done like they should? Miami is a two and a half point favorite in this game, so they are giving Florida a lot of credit for being a hostile environment to play in. So is Miami going to be able to take care of business, or is florida be able to get an early season win that they definitely need? You want to see the, want me to tell you the florida schedule yeah insane.
College Football and Gaslighting Analysis
Speaker 2They play miami, they play samford, they play texas a&m. Week three, mississippi state. Week four, they play ucf. Week five, they play tennessee at tennessee. They play kentucky, they play georgia, they play texas, they play lsu, they play old miss and they end the season with florida state. Their over under is like four games like they are not looked at going to be have a great season. But that's a the fact that to play Tennessee, kentucky, georgia, texas, lsu, ole Miss all in a row is insane. I think they do get one buy in there, but still that's a crazy track to have to go through. The SEC did not do Florida any favors with their schedule. So, like I said, that game against Miami is a big one that they can get that win early on in the season. It just helps them out, not maybe with morale later on in the year Next game.
Speaker 2I do think Miami's going to win that game, though I think they're just too talented Getting their new quarterback. Why am I forgetting his name, noah Lyles? No, it's Cam Ward, very talented guy, but he likes to throw the football to the other team. But can he make those explosive plays without giving the ball up is going to be a big question. If he can do that, then Miami should win this game handily. If not, it might get a little hairier than that. Let's see.
Speaker 1Is anything said on this podcast on the mission of guilt if I have legal trouble? No, okay, so I've been dealing cocaine.
Speaker 2Sorry, I had nothing else to talk about so I need to say something I want more gospel game, and then we can go to nfl, where you'll have a lot more to talk about. Notre Dame plays at Texas A&M 7.30pm on Saturday. This is a big matchup because Texas A&M is coming off of a really bad season, plays their head coach, have a new quarterback, but they're still a very talented team, and then you have Notre Dame being ranked at number 7.
Speaker 2They have a new quarterback coming in. I think they've had like seven. You know, at the last seven years they've had seven different quarterbacks. Damn.
Speaker 1It's insane.
Speaker 2That's a lot. Exactly so, like they're going to, they have to break in a new quarterback. Hopefully you can put Riley Leonard is going to be their guy. Can he throw be? Hopefully he can put Riley Leonard is going to be their guy. Can he be better at throwing the football downfield is a big question for him, because he really has not been good at that when he was at Duke. Can he be better at that?
Speaker 2Can Notre Dame run the football against this Texas A&M defense? Because Notre Dame is like their offensive line that's going to be starting this game. You know how many total starts their offensive line has Six, damn. So they're a very young offensive line playing. It's a very talented texas a&m defensive line. So are they going to be able to run the football, on top of the fact they might have some trouble throwing the football? Um, I don't think so, especially if they have to play at texas a&m, a very hostile environment to play in. I'd probably go texas a&m when to win this game. A&m's a three-point favorite here, but Notre Dame's defense is very good. So are they going to be able to force some turnovers and get you some short fields for their offense? Maybe the equalizer here. But again, notre Dame just likes to lose these games, sometimes against teams that they are matched up well against. So I'd probably go Texas A&M here, but I think it'll be a very good game to watch and I think that's about it. Michigan plays Fresno State.
Speaker 2I don't know why I had to mention it. I watched the doc. I don't think I've ever been gaslit before and honestly, I don't think I truly ever believed when somebody said they were being gaslit, what that feeling truly felt like. But watching this Conor Stallion's doc an hour and a half, it seemed like a mockumentary pretty much, because of how much like oh, that really wasn't me, you know. They showed him the picture, the guy, uh, the Conor Stallions. They showed him a picture of himself when he was on the central Michigan sideline in the, with the goatee and the hat and the glasses. He's like that doesn't even look like me. And then in the next frame, dave Portnoy, who, like they became friends after this whole situation happened, who was a well-known Michigan guy, all that very popular he's like. He told he we've talked about this. Connor Stallings told me that, yeah, that was him.
Speaker 2Like this, this was a sham of a documentary and it was pretty much. You know what the origin of gas lighting is like. How it came to be was that a man was trying to make his wife think she was going insane. So they had a bunch of uh oil lamps that you just have to turn the light on light, uh, up and down. So what he would do is is, as she would leave the room, he would turn the lights down on oil lamps and she would come in like, is it darker than what it's supposed? Like what it was earlier, and be like, no, you're insane. So it's like doing little things here or there to kind of make a person believe they're insane when they really aren't.
Speaker 2That's what gaslighting is and that's what I felt like going through this, this documentary pretty much, where I know mich, michigan State's denying everything that they didn't know anything about, the cheating and all that, and I hated it. It was the worst thing ever. And Conor Stallions was like they were trying to make him a sympathetic figure. I love Michigan because my mommy loved Michigan and my daddy loved Michigan and oh, I just want to see them do well. And the biggest, one of the biggest things at the end of the thing, end of it all, they ask him would you do it again? He's like I would do it. I would gladly do it again. And I'm just sitting here like this is the biggest sham of the thing I've ever watched in my life and it infuriated me to my bones to watch that whole game happen. Uh, watch that whole thing. It was so bad I had to watch it in pieces because I'm like I don't want to do this. So I kept watching a 20 minute burst and then like for like, saying, forget it this, I don't want to do this, no more. But yeah, oh, by the way, I mentioned I have one more game I want to talk about.
Speaker 2Monday night, sunday night, usc goes to lsu to play a big game. Actually, no, it's not, it's not to LSU, they're actually playing in the Raider Stadium in Las Vegas. Usc LSU. Can USC's offense post Caleb Williams play well? That's probably going to be a good thing, because Riley why am I forgetting his name?
Speaker 2Pat Riley, not Pat Riley, lincoln Riley, lincoln Riley, the coach for USC, is a very good offense coordinator. That's had very good quarterbacks, even if they weren't of the caliber of Caleb Williams, he has had very good offenses. So can that offense play well against the LSU defense that is going to be pretty good in the front seven but in their secondary is going to be very weak and young. Can LSU's secondary kind of hold up against the USC wide receivers is a big question. Can LSU offensively, can they replacing Jaden Daniels, the Heisman winner from last year, can they be better? Who knows? Their offensive lines will be very good so they're going to be able to kind of give their quarterback time to sit back there and make plays. Uh, obviously, in their at wide receiver, lsu is always very talented.
Speaker 2So I think the big question is can lsu's defense put up any fight against usc? But if not, it'll be a freaking. They're going to light up the scoreboard and it's going to be a first to 40. It's probably going to win this game and it's going to be a very fun game. So I think I'd probably pick LSU, just because I just like what their offensive line is going to be able to do and I feel like USC blocking LSU's defensive line is going to be a little bit harder than what LSU's offensive line is going to have to do against USC. So I think USC LSU's defense may not may give up big plays, but they're going to be able to against USC. So I think USC LSU's defense may give up big plays, but they're going to be able to get after the quarterback a little bit more and kind of cause some havoc back there. So I'll probably give it to LSU.
Speaker 2Lsu is a four-point favorite in this game, and then Florida State coming off their loss. They do have to play Boston College on Monday, but they should win that game pretty easily. But again, we all said that about Georgia Tech too. So who knows how that's going to go. Bless you, thank you. And that's all I got in college football, ready to talk about NFL. Yes, I'm very excited for college football. Obviously, it's like me, all this rambling going on and I feel like this offseason has gone on very quickly. Bless you, thank you. So I'm very quickly, thank you. So I'm very excited, ready to go. Time to talk about NFL football now.
Negotiating NFL Player Contracts
Speaker 2So Jace can talk more and maybe give me a break. Okay, so let's start off with the big news that came out the last couple days CeeDee Lamb signs a four-year $136 million deal with a $36 million signing bonus to do it signing, which is the most that any player has ever gotten, and he gets $100 million guaranteed. He gets an average new money per year of $34 million, which is the second highest non-quarterback salary per year, just behind Justin Jefferson at 35. What's your thoughts? I think this is too much. What's your thing Fuck.
Speaker 1That's my only thought. Fuck. I'm looking at Mike Brown like you're a stupid fuck. Demar Chase going to want that or more. Oh yeah, and unfortunately for you, you got to get it to him.
Speaker 2You have no choice.
Speaker 1Because, also unfortunately for you, we can't not pay him. I'd love to say we can. I'd love to say we're better. I'd love to say we will be okay without him. But I can confirm and I know we will not be, so you know Fuck.
Speaker 2I think this is overpaying for CeeDee Lamb for what he is. I agree.
Speaker 1I absolutely agree. I think CeeDee Lamb's a mediocre receiver who's going to probably end up at 1,000 yards most of the year, but he's not really that talented. When you give a guy 96% of your targets, he's going to have that many yards Right. There's a reason why Tee Higgins and Jamar Chase both end up right above 1,000 yards, but neither of them is really going to end up with more than that.
Speaker 2I feel like the Cowboys put CeeDee Lamb in a position to have all that stats, all the stats that he had last year. So it gets to a point where, hey, I have produced so much, you have to pay me this amount of money, what I truly don't think that without that type of production like that production is very hard to get, without the opportunities that he got and he got so many more opportunities based off the offense that he was in I just don't think that's going to be repeatable on an every year basis. And the fact that he held out this whole off season to be able to get this money is not going to help, because every player that holds out to get their money and has to wait till pretty much the beginning of the season to get it means that they usually have a very slow start to the season and they don't play as well. But I just think, with all this, they were gonna have to pay him anyway, which is why, for me, looking at jerry jones and him like having going through this whole net why, if you're gonna pay him anyway which the cowboys always do they always end up paying these players. Why take your own fans through the song and dance when the ending point is going to happen. You're going to pay these dudes. There's no other option, right? So like, why even go through all this, especially when it only gets more expensive?
Speaker 2If they would have signed him last year, they could have signed him at $27, $28 million and he probably would have taken it. But guess what? It only gets more expensive. Justin Jefferson gets his money, you get AJ Brown and um Devonta Smith getting his money. It only got more expensive as you wait. So the idea that you're gonna sit here and make this whole thing happen and then, next thing you know, you're paying millions and millions of more dollars because of your own arrogance and your own stupidity is insane to me. It's insane. And they're only going to do this with Dak too. And like, maybe I have a little bit more confidence that they actually may not sign Dak because they don't believe him in it as much. But like, here's the thing If they don't sign him, they have no other options either. Are they going to go with Trey Lance? Right, and I'm like he's? He's already proven to be kind of booty cheeks. He's very meh, right, he had one good preseason game and everybody's like, ooh, maybe this is a chance for them to not have to pay.
Speaker 1Dak, I'd say he showed flashes of being mediocre.
Speaker 2Right.
Speaker 1But not flashes of being good.
Speaker 2So they have no other option. They have no other discourse. So you're going to end up paying Dak too, and Dak's going to look at you. And this is where Dak's been a shrewd operator. He wants every dime. There is no such thing as a hometown discount. He don't care, he wants everything he can get. And guess what? When the end of the season comes up and he's going to be a free agent, guess what Dallas is going to do? They're going to offer him over $.
Speaker 1One should offer him 65.
Speaker 2No one should, but somebody might, but somebody might, and that's what the Dallas Cowboys are hoping that nobody does and they just have to pay him 60. But again, they would have just paid him last year or the year before that. Yeah, they could have paid him a little bit less, but guess what? They waited and now they're gonna have to overpay to keep him and they, they're probably going to end up paying him. I just. And back to your thing with Jamar Chase.
Speaker 2Jamar Chase goes to practice yesterday and your coach is like hey, looks like we're in a good spot. He's going to be practicing from now on. Comes in today he's holding out again. So like I just. And then your coach has to come out and pretty much say, oh, I jumped the gun on that, it's not as going as well as I thought. Pay these dudes.
Speaker 2If the option is, at the end of the day, is that you're going to pay him, no matter what, what's the point in delaying it? What's the point? It only gets more expensive. Let's just say Jamar Chase plays great this year and he takes you all the way to the Super Bowl and you win the Super Bowl. You're going to be paying him $37 million a year or you're betting against him playing well and he sits there and plays crappy and then you don't have the season you need to have and then you go into next year without Tee Higgins and all the talent that you had already.
Speaker 2So I just don't get. You're betting against your own player when you're doing business this way and I'm like why don't you just pay the man the money you know he deserves, he deserves? Try to strike a deal there, but don't sit here and just be dumb and be as the owner of the Bengals say. We're not going to pay you until next year, no questions asked. Pay the man now. Pay him now. It doesn't make any sense to me. I just don't get it and I I would hate to be a fan a bangles fan sitting there, be like, hey, this is stupid. Just pay him. You already know you're letting t higgins walk after this year because you're all you want to pay jamar chase. So don't make this more painful than it has to be. And yet that's exactly what's happening in it and it kind of sucks I agree this is dumb.
Speaker 1Why are we doing this? Let's just not do this. Pay t higgins and we can go home, but pay jamar chase, we can go home. You're not gonna keep t higgins. You gotta pay one of them, can't hold out on both of them.
Speaker 2Uh, I don't know, man, this is all fucking stupid man, if Joe Burrow at some point is going to be like, hey, you have to pay him, he's going to have to go to the team and be like, hey, let's stop playing games.
Speaker 1He's going to sit back and be like hey bro, I need someone to throw the ball to.
Speaker 2Right.
Speaker 1So I need you to pay one of them.
Speaker 2Even Mahomes. Even Mahomes, he's had Kelsey like, he has his main guy right and I feel like and they have one of the best offensive coaches probably in the history of the NFL and I don't think you have that with the Bengals. So it makes it even more imperative that you keep a guy that Joe Burrow loves and has that connection with and Jamar Chase is that dude. And unless you're gonna get the next freaking Bill Gates when it comes to offensive play, calling to come in there, be able to help joe burrow lift up some under achieving receivers and be able to do stuff like that, then you have to keep a guy like jamar chase on the fold and just go ahead and pay the man. You're going to end up paying him anyway. So all this is only you're delaying, inevitable for no reason and you're causing discon like you're causing discomfort, causing discourse for no reason and you're causing discomfort with Chase.
Speaker 1You're causing discourse for no reason.
Speaker 2Right, and Jamar Chase is only going to become less happy about this whole situation. Why make him unhappy if you're just going to end up deciding him anyway and the next thing you know he's going to carry these negative feelings into seasons in the future. Instead of him just being happy, he's in Cincinnati with Joe Burrow, his quarterback.
Speaker 1You want people to be happy to be a Bengal. He's in Cincinnati with Joe Burrow, his quarterback.
Speaker 2You want people to be happy to be a Bengal Right and you're not really giving that. They're taking you through all this madness just to give you what you wanted anyway. And I'm like, why have all the discourse for it? Why make this so hard? You don't have to make it that hard, it's very easy. As soon as Justin Jefferson got his money, pay Jamar chase a little bit less than that or right above that. Whatever he's asking for they, the money is right there, the everything's right there in front of you. All you have to do is agree to terms. Yep, it just sucks.
Speaker 2All right, um steelers, name russell wilson as a starter going into week one. And it was funny how that I kind of mentioned this already before we started podcasting that when Mike Tomlin did announce it today, he did not say the starter for the season. He said Russell Wilson will be the starter going into week one, which is a crazy way to put that, because it kind of leaves the door open for Justin Fields to kind of come in and earn the job later on in the season. And I think the way I think about this is that if you bring Justin Fields into the season to start the season early and he doesn't play well, it's harder to take him off the field and bring in Russell Wilson and then bring him back. But if you start Russell Wilson to start the year.
Speaker 1You can justify. You can justify going Justin Fields in when Russell Wilson ain start the year, you can justify. You can justify fields in when Russell wasn't even that good, exactly.
Speaker 2And then Justin Fields come in, play better, be the hero and all that. So I just I do feel like this is a better, probably for Justin Fields, but I just wish this wasn't kind of like built up to be a quarterback competition, because I truly don't think it was, especially when in that third preseason game Russell Wilson would have like said it was supposed to still be a competition and Russell Wilson comes out and plays one series, gets a touchdown, then doesn't play again. I think it just kind of showed the writing on the wall that Russell Wilson was going to have the job no matter what, pretty much invalidating the whole idea of the quarterback competition from the get-go. And I just feel like that part kind of sucked, because I really did want Justin Fields to have a shot to win the job. And I just feel like that part kind of sucked Because I really did want Justin Fields to have a shot to win the job. And I just think the whole, the idea, the plan, the whole time was to slow play the Justin Fields part of this and I hope it goes well Because if not, there's a lot of things going negatively for the Steelers right now.
Speaker 2Isaac Sayamalu, the guard for us has a pectoral injury. He's avoiding the season-ending version of that injury, but he can miss some serious time, so who knows how that's going to go.
Speaker 1Why am I?
Speaker 2forgetting the one lineman's name.
Speaker 1The tackle.
Speaker 2Oh, I know, I know, let me get the name. Let's see Roderick Jones. He's kind of regressed because they keep moving him. They started out the offseason playing left tackle, which he started playing well, and then they tried to move him back to right tackle and he ends up regressing. He hasn't really been playing as well as he did. Uh, fatanu got hurt early on in the in the preseason, but he should be back by the start of the year, like I just feel like. And we lost our center, nate herbig um, he ended up getting an injury. So that means we're going to be starting our rookie center and zach frazier, which I think he'll be good by the end of the season.
Speaker 2But to start the year might cause a little bit of issues. Our wide receiver room is still bare behind George Pickens, like everybody's talking about how we need to trade for wide receiver and that hasn't happened. I just feel like there's a lot of things going against our team and like this thing could burn quickly to the ground. Our defense is still good, but again it's just like I did this last year Our defense was good and they were holding on winning all these games, ugly, and the next thing, you know, they just kind of break down and then lose these games and then getting beat out and getting shut out and not playing well.
Speaker 2So I'm just like, can our offense put up a little bit of a pulse to help out our defense? And I'm just losing confidence that they met. That may happen. So, um, I'm just kind of feeling nervous in general about everything. So, um, I'm just a little feeling a little weary about the start of the year. So, and not to mention, our schedule kind of sucks when it comes to being very difficult. After week 11 we pretty much play every all of our division games and then you add in the Eagles and the Chiefs, so like second half of our schedule kind of is insane.
Speaker 1No, your schedule is very hard. I think it's you Browns, then the Ravens have the hardest schedule.
NFL Quarterback Rankings Discussion
Speaker 2It's insane. So all right, let's get into it. Our final rankings for the NFLfl. We've pretty much been podcast by podcast, we've been ranking different position groups, um, and we are at the last one. We haven't ranked. Uh, so we're at the quarterbacks, save the best for last and we'll kind of go in and, uh, we're ranking 1 to 32 and uh, let's do it and hopefully not hate each other by the end of this. All right, sorry, I had to take a big deep breath there. I feel like I was losing my breath there for a second. All righty, jace, you want to start at the beginning, at the top or at the bottom?
Speaker 1Let's go from top to bottom.
Speaker 2All righty then Would you like me to start? You start. I can start okay we'll do this by four. We'll back this up by fours alright give me your top four, my boy top five, okay, five we'll do it by fives, then we'll do it by fives got.
Speaker 1Patrick Mahomes, joe Burrow, lamar Jackson, justin Herbert, matthew Severed. Okay, fine, we'll do it by fives. Then we'll do it by fives got patrick mahomes, joe burrow, lamar jackson, justin herbert, matthew severed okay, okay, I got patch mahomes.
Speaker 2Joe burrow, josh allen, lamar jackson, matthew severed, lamar Jackson, matthew Stafford. Thoughts on mine, thoughts on yours. I think I got Herbert a little high, I think you have Allen too high.
Speaker 1This is based on going in the next season as well. Last year, next season yeah, who the fuck's he throwing the ball to?
Speaker 2Your favorite wide receiver of all time.
Speaker 1And that nigga's not that good. At least with Lattam McConkley I can say he's pretty fucking good. Yeah, you know, you're not wrong and you know I'm just saying Herbert's on the lines better. Herbert's, a new coach.
Speaker 2Herbert has more, but Herbert's also Coming off injured, not being able to play Any of the preseason, and Jay Herbo's still that nigga, that's true, but he's gonna walk up there like that 45 yard throw To the side Running to my left Across field.
Speaker 1I can make that, cause he's that motherfucker, joe. See for it, josh Allen's ass.
Speaker 2No, he's not.
Speaker 1Okay, fine.
Speaker 2I'll go. I'll go with my next five. I got CJ at six, herbert at seven, jared Goff at eight, jalen Hurts at nine, tua Tagovailoa at ten. Okay.
Speaker 1Sorry, talk about Lowe at 10. Okay, sorry, yo. I have Jalen Hurts at 6., cj Stroud at 7., josh Allen at 8. Come on bro.
Speaker 2Come on bro.
Speaker 1CJ Stroud is more talented than niggas fucking pinky toe than Josh Allen will ever have. Why you?
Speaker 2gotta put him against CJ Stroud. You know I love CJ Stroud. That's a plan by you.
Speaker 1I don't like that.
Speaker 2I don't like that bro.
Speaker 1CJ Stroud is so much better, trevor Lawrence at nine and Jordan Love at ten. You have Tua way too fucking high.
Speaker 2I think with Tua I put him in a spot where I'm like he led the NFL in passing yards last year. Oh, I'm sorry, who are his receivers? Again, that's true, I get that.
Speaker 1Okay, so cool. So let's be real, if you take him, he's the one dude on this list that I truly believe you benefit from your system more than anybody In a way that if somebody really needs you to be better, you will not. In a way that I think Brock Purdy could be better. I think he could actually do well in a game if he wasn't in the greatest system ever. I think if he could hunker down, make the throws I need to make and be okay, I think Tua would have a meltdown. I put Brock Purdy and Tua in the same kind of category. I agree, but again, I think Brock Purdy is a better overall quarterback. I think Tua would have a meltdown and we've watched him have meltdowns.
Speaker 2Because it was cold outside. That's a fucking problem.
Speaker 1Yeah, it is, you're not wrong. You can't play in the fucking cold. What the fuck what?
Speaker 2Yeah, you're not wrong.
Speaker 1Dude, every other team that's not in your fucking specific division. Don't play in the fucking cold. Oh, you're fucked. You gotta play an AFC North team. Oh yeah, what do you have to play? Four of every fucking year AFC North teams. You're fucked for four games. They don't play.
Speaker 2AFC North teams every year.
Speaker 1It doesn't matter A lot of.
Speaker 2AFC teams are cold in cold weather and a lot of NFC teams are no, the Giants ain't cold, the Jets ain't cold.
Speaker 1Look at that shit, frigid.
Speaker 2Yeah, but their own. In their own division. They play a lot of teams In warm weather or in a dome.
Speaker 1Neither of those two teams have domes.
Speaker 2Who.
Speaker 1The Jets or Giants.
Speaker 2No, I'm talking about For the, I'm talking about For the Niners Again.
Speaker 1You mean the Dolphins?
Speaker 2No, that's what I was. I was comparing the two.
Speaker 1The Dolphins they can play in the Golden. I know CMC can play in the Golden.
Speaker 2Well, run the football, but I'm talking about when it comes to throwing the football. They did show a little bit of Iffiness when the weather wasn't great.
Speaker 1Their defense didn't? That's true? No, you're not wrong. Whatever dude, go ahead, continue. 11 through 15.
Speaker 2I know you go 11 through 15?
Speaker 1what if Jared Goff went too fucking high? Where was he at again? I had him at 8, you're fucking high. Um, at 11 Dak Prescott, at 12 Brock Purdy, at 13 Tua Tungvalayo, at 14 Aaron Rodgers and at 15 Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 2Okay, at 11, I had Brock. 12, I had Jordan Love. Again, only half a year of Jordan Love. Being that dude, if I get a full year, then it's a little bit different.
Speaker 1I've never gotten a full year of Tua doing that. He did it last year. He threw to the best receiver in the NFL.
Speaker 2Yeah, but Brock Purdy was doing the exact same thing. I have them both right next to each other because of that.
Speaker 1Go ahead, continue Fuck tour.
Speaker 2Move your fucking legs Move your fucking legs. 13,. Kyler Murray, 14,. I had Dak Prescott and then 15, I had Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 1This nigga don't know football.
Speaker 2How do I not know ball? I don't know ball. How do I not know ball? What did I do wrong, Nigga?
Speaker 1you had Jericho for the eight. You don't know football.
Speaker 2What did Jared Goff not do last year?
Speaker 1Continue.
Speaker 2I went to 15.
Speaker 1Yes, dude, now you have to do the rest. This is why we just do one fucking list at a time. This shit's stupid. What did?
Speaker 2Jared. What did Jared Goff not prove? Like what did he Like? What's his problem? He got them. He took a Lions team.
Speaker 1He is an average quarterback. He is an average quarterback. He is an average quarterback with great coaching. He is average. That's why he's with people like Brock, Purdy, Tua and Baker. You are an average-ass quarterback.
Speaker 2You have him at eight. He's better than the guys he's in front of.
Speaker 1No he's not. At no point do I think Jared Goff is better than Baker Mayfield. I think Baker Mayfield can will his team to a win, jared.
Speaker 2Goff has a much bigger arm than Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 1That doesn't fucking matter. If he can't win a game. I genuinely think Baker Mayfield can will teams to win. He willed a fucking Browns team to win. He willed a seven and two. He won a fucking Browns team to win. He won a 7-2, a 7-. What they were? 7-10? Or like 8-9?. Tampa Bay team to a fucking playoff, to two playoff games.
Speaker 2He won a whole fucking playoff game how well did that fucking go.
Speaker 1Last hour call was a fucking kill shot.
Speaker 2Get the fuck out of here. In last year with the Detroit Lions, he played great football Again that team was so overtly talented.
Speaker 1Baker Mayfield took Mike Evans and Mike Evans to a second round fucking playoff. That team's ass. He took Mike Evans and who else?
Speaker 2The NFC was incredibly weak last year. Don't do that.
Speaker 1And Baker's team was one of the weakest teams. They were expected to lose like 13 games. He did not lose 13 games. He forced them into the playoffs. Baker went out there playing out of his fucking mind.
Speaker 2And you think Jared Goff's shitty ass.
Speaker 1No, fuck out of here. Your list is out.
Speaker 2Jared Goff is more talented than Baker Mayfield. No question asked. No question asked. Yes, he is. No question asked.
Speaker 1Yes he is. You're a stupid dumbass. You're a fucking dumb, fucking, fucking, stupid bitch Fuck you Fuck your life.
Speaker 2He has a better quarterback than Baker Mayfield. You are fucking insane. No questions asked. You are insane.
Speaker 1You are insane. If we were to ask 10 NFL fans, they'd look at you like this nigga is on crack. Because you are.
Speaker 2No, I'm not.
Speaker 1Dude, you single like fucking Browns fan. That is like fuck, we should have kept Baker. Every Browns fan is like fuck, we fucked up, dude, he was lights out last year. Guess what that's because they paid Deshaun Watson $38 million.
Speaker 2Sorry, $40 million.
Speaker 1No, I'm not, you're tweaking, you're still tweaking. I want whatever you smoke.
Speaker 2I'm not smoking anything Bro.
Speaker 1You are fucking PCP that Galaxy Gas and crack. You have a fucking trifecta combo right now.
Speaker 2I think Jared Goff, as the quarterback of that Lions team, took them to a very good height. They went and made an NFC Championship game last year, I think.
Speaker 1if you put Baker on that team, he wins that NFC Championship game. No, he doesn't Fuck you, yatos?
Speaker 2No, he doesn't.
Speaker 1Fuck you, yatos.
Speaker 2You don't know ball. You're on crack. You don't know ball.
Speaker 1You don't know ball You're on crack, you don't know ball.
Speaker 2I do know ball I know you don't.
Speaker 1I know ball more than you. You clearly fucking don't. Yes, I do, you do not 16.
Speaker 2I had Aaron Rodgers. 16. I had Aaron Rodgers. Okay, Do you know? I can tell you why. I don't care If you don't like it. He's 40 years old and hasn't played good football in three years, continue, just keep going, you're fucking me. 17. Kirk Cousins, 18. Baker Mayfield, 19. Geno Smith. 20 20 Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 1Nigga, you do not have him between Gino Smith and Kirk Hudson. Okay, yeah, of course I do.
Speaker 2That's where he belongs.
Speaker 1Alright.
Speaker 2Give me 16 to 20.
Speaker 1I have Jared Goff at 16. I have Kyler Murray. I have Big Kirko at 18. I got G Goff at 16. I have Kyler Murray. I have Big Kirko at 18.
Speaker 2I got.
Speaker 1Geno Smith at 19.
Speaker 2And I got Derek Carr at 20. You have Derek Carr way too high. You have Derek Carr way too high. Bro, what happened? What season you watched last year? You say I don't know ball.
Speaker 1I was looking at Derek Carr like. I have no fucking clue what to play this to you, but I feel like you are better the guys behind him. I feel like he's better than the guys behind him because he's a more proven quarterback. But yeah, with the motherfuckers behind him it's a bunch of unproven quarterbacks and rookies, and Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 2Where did you have?
Speaker 1Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 2At 20.
Speaker 1That's too fucking high.
Speaker 2The talent that he is is not too high. Oh, when's the last time you've seen that talent?
Speaker 1That's true. It's been three years. In all honesty, I've seen Will Levis has played better than he has. Will Levis in his one year played better than Deshaun Watson in the last three and you cannot tell me he hasn't, because I've seen Will Levis play more. I think.
Speaker 2Deshaun Watson, for you might be too high. I just think I'm trying to give him a little bit of credit that maybe he only played eight games last year. Exactly, he'll have a full offseason.
Speaker 1He won't, though. We both know this dude's going to sit around, be like I'm injured and take a.
Speaker 2Again, I don't believe it either. This is my last little sense. Of giving him a little bit Of the benefit of the doubt Because of the player he once was, I'm done.
Speaker 1I never really gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Speaker 2I think the player he once was Is far gone and I think Maybe I'm just giving him A little faith, I'm giving him one last to jump up there. No, I don't have him much.
Speaker 1Where'd you have him? You had him at like 20. I don't have him much lower. I have him lower than that, but again, he is a more proven quarterback than the guys behind him. So that's the same reason why I have Derek Carr ahead. He had a bad season, yes, but I've seen what you can be, and what you can be is an okay quarterback, and I think the Saints will be better this year, which is I'm planning for the future.
Speaker 1The Saints were already good which I agree, and I think he will play better. He was the weakness for that scene.
Speaker 2It wasn't the same. I think he'll do better. I just I don't. I've given, I've well given up on Derek Carter that one I'm okay, on uh 21, I I had Richardson, anthony Richardson, 22, I had Russ or Slash Fields. I already told you, I kind of put them together 23, I had Caleb Williams, 24, I had Jaden Daniels and then 25, I had Derek Carr 21,.
Speaker 1I also had no, no, sorry, sorry, sorry. 25,. I had Will Levis, okay, 21,. I also no, no sorry, sorry, sorry, 25,.
Speaker 2I have Will Levis.
Speaker 1Okay, 21,. I also have Anthony Richardson 22,.
Speaker 2I also. Again, Anthony Richardson is ready to jump up very high if he can stay healthy and have a full season.
Speaker 1I agree 22,. I also have Justin Fields 23,. I have Deshaun Watson 24,. I have Gardner Minshew.
Speaker 2Oh God, he has Mark Minshew very high Again.
Speaker 1I've seen him in a playoff game. Okay, you can't. You rank rookies too high. I don't care how talented they are, I haven't seen them play a down event of a football.
Speaker 2I'm just I'm going off more their talent. I haven't seen them play a down event of a football.
Speaker 1They can't be that high. If I've never seen you play, caleb Williams is the only one that's actually decently high, and again, it's because your team's so much more talented than the other rookies that you're going to be better than the rest of them.
Speaker 2I just think those two in general are so talented and they're in a good spot and that's fine when they'll be able to play well, caleb Williams is a good spot. Jay Daniels has no line, yes, but he can run around a lot more than any other quarterback I've ever seen.
Speaker 1Okay, ask RG3 how that went.
Speaker 2Not real fucking well, but he is a lot better. He knows how to slide, unlike RG3.
Speaker 1No the fuck. He don't. That's his biggest problem. He don't slide, he takes hits. That's that's what. That's what his biggest thing was coming out of college is hey, you gotta get down. He don't get down. That's his biggest problem. What do you mean? His biggest problem is that he won't slide.
Speaker 2He wants to keep running that was his problem in college. Yeah, you're not wrong on that.
Speaker 1So I'm looking at rg3 2.0 with a better receiver on the outside. That's what I'm looking at. And then they traded their second receiver and then they have no, they don't have a great O-line. They're running back, they have a running back room, but none of them are really like stars. None of them like really jump out. And that team has no fucking defense.
Speaker 2Yeah, they do. They have a running back, they have a Eckler, a great receiving back.
Speaker 1This nigga did not just cite a running back that hit a wall so hard. It should be fucking studied.
Speaker 2But guess what? They had no other weapons outside of him and they were able to focus on him. They won't be able to do that this year because they have a quarterback that can run.
Speaker 1They have actual wide receivers on the outside. This is. Austin Eckler's first year as a commander. Yeah, okay, cool. It should be studied how hard he hit the fucking wall.
Speaker 2And the offensive line honestly won't be that bad. Whatever you want to say, bro, I just screwed you on this one, so you didn't, so you had a, so you have a problem with Levis being at 25 for me.
Speaker 1No, I have a little less than 25.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1I had a problem with Gardner Minter being so low, but I don't know where he's at yet. I think he's. I think you rank rookies too high. Rookies truly are at the end of my list.
Speaker 2I couldn't do that because I am going. That's where I rely on the talent that I saw, because I've watched him play so much college football.
Speaker 1I agree. I know your talent. I think they're going to be very good, but college football talents don't always work out in the NFL.
Speaker 2Yeah, but I think they will. They should. Again, you say will they should? I'm making a bet. I'm making a bet that they will, and that's fine. I think you're not ready to make that bet.
Speaker 1People made that same bet about Sam Bradford, josh Rosen, fucking Sam Darnold, all these guys that were supposed to be good and they just weren't. And I don't like making a bet on a talent I haven't seen play in the NFL. Nfl is a very different breed. That's fine, but I'm not saying you're wrong. Caleb Williams definitely has a much better team.
Speaker 2That's just not a bet you're willing to make yet.
Speaker 1Yes, and that's fine and I understand that.
Speaker 2Now did I rank.
Speaker 1Joe Burrow in the top fucking ten his first year. I absolutely fucking did. But he was that nigga coming out of college. I kid you not. There was no one called the Bengals on that night. No one called the Bengals on that night, because it's like oh yeah, it's not happening. No, it's not happening. Don't even call us. If you call us, I'll hang up. You need to call us to congratulate us, and that's it. There's no chance you get up here to one, true and there wasn't.
Speaker 2Now did some teams benefit of that, the Chargers.
Speaker 1Yeah, you got. Tua was taken at 11. Still is the most wild thing in the world. Herbo wasn't 13. It was 7. Yes, that's right, but still, tua was taken at 5.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Which is still. The Dolphins are probably trying to kill themselves over that.
Speaker 2They could have had a Herbo.
Speaker 1Yeah, that was a very different world. All right, I'll give you 26.
Speaker 2Can I?
Speaker 1just give you 26 through 32?. That's fine, I have Caleb Williams at 26. Okay, I have Sam Darnold at 27. Okay, I have Jayden Daniels. I have Drake.
Speaker 2May, actually at 28. Okay, so you just settle on Drake May being the guy.
Speaker 1Yeah, I would assume he is going to be the guy. I don't think.
Speaker 2I think the coach said that it was. Why am I freaking out on the one? Jacoby Brissett, brissett. He said Brissett's been the better quarterback in. Well, that's the thing.
Speaker 1If it's Brissett, I feel like he'd be higher. I'd probably put Brissett higher because I've seen Brissett be pretty okay. And then I have Jaden Day on the 29. I don't think he has great coaching and I don't think he has a great team overall. I think his team overall is worse than the Patriots. Okay, oh, okay, okay, okay, I think that team's comparable.
Speaker 2I think those teams are very comparable. The Patriots are much worse. They have no talent around, whatever quarterback they have. Again, i— they have no talent.
Speaker 1I don't disagree, but I still think Drake may have a better situation. I don't disagree, but I still think Drake may have a better situation. I don't think, so that's fine.
Speaker 2I think that's incredibly wrong. I do not.
Speaker 1Okay, fine, I do not see a way Jaden Daniels is really set up to succeed. He has an old Austin Eckler and he has Terry McLaren, who's just going to go out there and receive the ball for 1,000 yards, and then he has nothing else.
Speaker 2He has a better offensive line with the Patriots. How?
Speaker 1many. Okay, okay, how Do they add to their offensive line? Like, what offensive line talent did they add? Because Sam Howell was the most sacked quarterback last?
Speaker 2year.
Speaker 1Let's see here, you say that they have a good old line, but I don't recall them making I think it'll be better.
Speaker 2That's why I was claiming it'll be a better offensive line.
Speaker 1I don't recall them making any improvements to their offensive line.
Speaker 2Let's see here. So NFC East Commanders was a roster, okay Offensive line. So let's see, I feel like they.
Speaker 1You're not wrong.
Speaker 2So they have the same O-line from last year they added a tackle in Brandon Coleman Is he?
Speaker 1starting.
Speaker 2He's a rookie.
Speaker 1Okay, so that's an unknown. So they didn't upgrade their O-line at all, not majorly. No, okay, that was the worst O-line in football. Sam Howell threw the most interceptions because he had the least time in the pocket and he was sacked the most times last year. He was sacked like 32-something times.
Speaker 2But I also think I think you know this from playing college football a lot is that if you can have a quarterback run game, it'll help the offensive line play better, even if they don't have the talent to.
Speaker 1But it also causes more mistakes to happen, Maybe Because he's trying to do something downfield. I think he like all rookie quarterbacks do they? Get in their head of I want to throw downfield, I don't want to run.
Speaker 2And he can and I think he is a beautiful deep ball passer.
Speaker 1It's just now that Jahan Dotson isn't there, no more, it's just Tara McLaren. They traded John Dodson. You didn't see that? Yeah, I saw it. So they don't have a two receiver. They don't really have tight ends. They got Luke McCaffrey, true, but again, rookie. I think he probably has very short hands, yeah, but is he the physical free Christian?
Speaker 2is no, they have Austin Eckler who's a getting hit a wall. They have, but is he the physical free Christian? He is no. They have Austin Eckler who's a. Again, he hit a wall. They have Brian Robinson Jr, who was a very good, very productive running back last year.
Speaker 1Again, that is a running back. Brian Robinson Jr ain't a receiver. He's not a good receiving back.
Speaker 2No, but he was a receiving back. He had close to 1,000 yards receiving.
Speaker 1Okay, but this is all still coming behind a very poor O-line and not a great coach.
Speaker 2I feel like they'll have a better offensive coach than this year.
Speaker 1They'll have better, but I don't know With Jaden Daniels. I don't know what he is yet in the NFL, which is why he's lower than Drake May, because the Patriots are almost exactly the fucking same.
Speaker 2I think that Washington has a lot more talent around him than the Patriots do, and I'm not denying that.
Speaker 1But the Patriots stayed the same and were better than Washington. Last year they had a better record than Washington did.
Speaker 2They had one of the best coaches in the history of the NFL. They don't have that anymore.
Speaker 1He wasn't there last year.
Speaker 2Yes, he was. Was he? Belichick was there last year? I don't fucking remember. Yes, belichick was there last year and he's the offensive mastermind that can kind of have these slugfests where they'll be playing better than what they're supposed to. But what? But?
Speaker 1the patriots have no talent around them and I understand what you're saying, but when washington's going with almost an entirely new regime at one, you, the GM office, the fucking coaching office, basically everywhere that team's a whole bunch of unknowns, but at least they're talented enough to actually do something. The Patriots are not, but the talent doesn't always fucking matter if you can't do anything with it.
Speaker 2Yeah, but they don't have the. But they're going with a brand new head coach. That's never been a head coach anywhere. The Patriots are. They're going with a brand new head coach. That's never been a head coach anywhere. The Patriots are. They're going with a brand new head coach in Gerard Mayo. He's been in the Patriots regime but he's never been a head coach. They're going with a new guy. They have a brand new GM. They have brand new everything as well. They have a brand new quarterback. They have not really drafted him any type of help with skill players around him.
Speaker 1Again, we're arguing on a spot. You have them in two different spots. They're flop-free, right? It's J Daniel Thinmay.
Speaker 2No, I have New England's starter because they actually haven't said Drake May is going to be the starter. I have them at 32.
Speaker 1That's wrong. There is a worse quarterback than them.
Speaker 2You're saying Daniel Jones? Fuck yeah, I put Daniel Jones higher than that just because I've seen him play. I watched that nigga struggle against twos. I get it. Get him the fuck at 32.
Speaker 1Fuck every other statement. Daniel Jones is the worst quarterback in the NFL. If I can rank every single quarterback in the NFL, he wouldn't be in the top 40. I've seen Daniel Jones throw 40 touchdowns and how many interceptions.
Speaker 2It wasn't that many that year he had 40 touchdowns. Okay, okay, okay.
Speaker 1Now, at what facet did the Giants get better?
Speaker 2They added a wide receiver and they added offensive linemen.
Speaker 1Yes, they added a receiver that Daniel Jones is about to miss. And they added offensive linemen to help protect him. That doesn't change the fact that Daniel Jones is still ass. No, I get it, he's still bad.
Speaker 2I truly do believe so. Where's he?
Speaker 1at for you.
Speaker 2I have him at 20. I'll give you mine. I'll give you mine. I'll give you the rest of mine.
Speaker 1I didn't even give you the rest of mine. Okay, I have Drake May, jaden Daniels, bryce Young.
Speaker 2Bo Nix, daniel Jones. Okay, I had so Derek Carr 26, bo Nix, 27, daniel Jones, 28,. Bryce Young, 29, sam Donald at 31.
Speaker 130.
Speaker 2And then I had Minshew at 31. And then New England, starter at 32.
Speaker 1Okay, you have Daniel Jones at 32.
Speaker 2I thought about putting Daniel Jones at 32. I really did, but I also said that at his best I have seen him play good football.
Speaker 1And at his best.
Speaker 2Hold on, I'm going to talk on the mic and I get what you're saying.
Speaker 1We haven't seen that in years Now you are going and that was with Saquon Barkley being at the height of his powers. You are also going based on the talent they are At his best. He's not talented in any of the 32 quarterbacks in the league. He is not as talented as they are.
Speaker 2He is a talented guy, he can run.
Speaker 1At his best, at everybody's best. On this list there's 31 quarterbacks better than he is. This is going to be the one where I think the Drake, may, jay and Daniels I can see you're coming from that, but this is the one where I truly believe with my heart of hearts that there are backups better than he is.
Speaker 2Maybe I think he'll prove that this year. But I just think, with the talent that I've seen, I've that, I've seen, I believe he will be that bad this year?
Speaker 1oh, yeah, I yeah, okay. So going into the future and what he was last year, how do you put him any higher than 32?
Speaker 2because that's where we had him last year he was 32 because I was mixed I I think I'm just trying to be a little bit more. I'm trying to understand that the talent that he is and what he has shown on the field is different and I just think he is a more talented guy with his God-given gifts than Bryce Young. He maybe is a more talented guy than Sam Darnold. I think Sam Darnold and him are very equivalent talent-wise. But Sam Darnold has played so bad and throw so many interceptions that it doesn't matter and I feel like he's going to be playing in a bet with a better team, with Minnesota. But I do think that I just seen so much bad of Darnold in a way that I've seen at least seeing a good season out of Daniel Jones. I've not seen a good season out of Darnold. Minshew is a straight up backup that keeps falling into these starting situations and again, I think Minshew's better than Jones.
Speaker 1I think Minshew has forced his team to win. I've seen him push his team to win, but he's played on good teams, though, and I agree. But that's the thing Daniel Jones has never shown me any promise that he will be a good quarterback in the NFL Coming out. Everybody was fucking bewildered that they drafted Daniel Jones and not Dwayne Haskins Me agree.
Speaker 1I agree, I was first off. My team picked three that year. I was pissed we didn't pick Dwayne Haskins. I was livid. It turned out to work the next year. Rest in peace. Rest in peace.
Speaker 2It did turn out to work next year, I agree. I'm not no.
Speaker 1I was saying I was pissed we didn't pick Dwayne Haskins.
Speaker 2Yeah, but then he said it turned out to work.
Speaker 1No, I said it turned out to work for us next year because we ended up getting Joe Burrow.
Speaker 2No, I'm not saying it works for you, I'm being overtly cool about it. No, you're cool.
Speaker 1I'm not disrespecting him. I'm about to disrespect Daniel Jones because they disrespected him. The picked Dwayne Haskins. There was nothing that said he wasn't the better quarterback in the draft. Now, that draft was shaky at quarterback, but Dwayne Haskins was definitely the best quarterback in that draft by far and the fact that they took Daniel Jones at eight. I remember that draft. You sat back like who is that? You know everything about college football and you said who is that? Yep, I had no clue who this guy was. Let's go at eight and I just, ah, dude, uh, 32 is the only spot I can see for him because, I'll be honest to you, at the end of this year he don't have a job no, I, I could totally, I totally see that world, because I believe the giants will be up there in draft, in the draft and I believe they're going quarterback.
Speaker 1They're trying to go quarterback this year.
Speaker 2Hey, yeah, they tried. They tried trading up to go get Drake man.
Speaker 1So if their team does not believe in their guy, I'm not going to believe in your guy. I believe he is the worst quarterback in the NFL. I see no other way around it. I believe the Giants are going to be the worst team in the NFL. I think that team has very little redeeming quality. I I think that team has very little redeeming quality. I think that defense is pretty good. That defense is stout.
Speaker 1They're a good defense that needs some DBs which they did try to alleviate, yeah, but Malik Naber is going to run the most crisp of routes and outrun his guy, and the Angels are going to miss him by a fucking fortnight. He's just. That's why Malik Naber is one of those untouchables in fantasy because you're not gonna get the ball, you're gonna get a hundred percent of your targets. There's no one else on your team and the ball gonna hit you probably 15 of those thousand targets you about to get. Because daniel jones is that bad. You see, he's not great. The giants don't believe in him. I can't believe in their fans don't believe in him.
Speaker 1No one believes believes in Daniel Jones and I think it's just. I think it's warranted. I think Daniel Jones is atrocious and I think he is the worst quarterback in the NFL. That's it. That's all I got.
Speaker 2Okay, okay, that's it for all the. So probably your biggest thing for me was I had Jared Goff too high. I think my biggest thing for you was that you had Probably Derek Carr Derek Carr too high, I think you had Baker a little too high.
Speaker 1I disagree. I think you had Baker too low. Then again you had I think it was Jared Goff then Baker.
Speaker 2I know I had Jared Goff at eight Jalen nine?
Speaker 1Never mind, let's not talk about it, because I want to hit you with this fucking mic already.
Speaker 2Two at ten. Dude, we're done. Brock at 11. I'm going to close the laptop.
Speaker 1I'm done talking about it.
Speaker 2I'm already pissed at you All right Before I make this any worse. All right, so we're have to jump on and talk about all the NFL games. What?
Speaker 1day is the 5th. Is that Friday or Saturday? The 5th September 5th Is that Sunday? Let's see here.
Speaker 25th is Thursday.
Speaker 1Oh, the Bengals play a Thursday night game, so we're going to have to jump on it.
Speaker 2Yeah, we play.
Speaker 1Thursday night, are you sure?
Speaker 2No, I think that's just no, because I thought Kansas City played Baltimore Thursday night. I think that's just the kickoff game. No, Kansas City and Baltimore play Thursday night.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's just a kickoff game. I think my brain was so fixated on football.
Speaker 2And then Philly and Green Bay play Friday, and then the Sunday games we play. You guys play New England on Sunday at 1 o'clock.
Speaker 1We about to smoke a fucking pack.
Speaker 2Yeah, you are no for sure.
Speaker 1Oh, my schedule's fucking cake. I face so many rookies.
Speaker 2All right, so next Cake, I've faced so many rookies. Alright, so next week we start doing the two. We'll do an early on podcast, we'll talk about college football and then we'll probably preview the Thursday game. Tuesday, thursday, yeah, and then Thursday we'll talk. Well, thursday or Friday we'll talk about the games that happened, we'll talk about the games that potentially happened on Thursday and then we'll preview all the Sunday games.
Speaker 1Thursday we will pick all the games for the week. Yeah.
Speaker 2I think we might do the Thursday pick the Thursday, just in case we don't podcast before the Thursday night game. We'll probably pick that game on Monday or Tuesday on the early podcast.
Speaker 1That's how we always do. Yeah, for sure, and Thursday we'll pick all the rest of the games.
Speaker 2Exactly so. We're back to our two-podcast-a-week schedule. It'll be a lot of fun. Talk about a lot of NFL football, talk about a lot of college football. Back to our regular schedule. With that I will go Next week. We think on the first pod we just give our division winners who's making the playoffs. We'll just do that. We'll make it simple.
Speaker 1Which NFL teams are making the playoffs then with the playoffs, and the bangles then with the super bowl, what it will? There you go. Okay, it's all done I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 2I can't be too mad at that, because I said the same thing about how I was uncomfortable. Um, so I I think we just do what team make the playoffs next week on the early podcast no, that's really just do it yeah, we'll do that I have to to pick what eight AFC teams when four of us in the North can make it?
Speaker 1Yeah, I don't want to do that.
Speaker 2We got to challenge ourselves sometimes. So with that I will go ahead.
Speaker 1I can't even pick who's going to be the best team in the AFC. Yeah, it's going to be hard. I can't say it's going to be the Chiefs, they'll be in the playoffs for sure, yeah, but I think they'll have a down year.
Speaker 2Travis.
Speaker 1Kelsey is only getting older.
Speaker 2Yeah, but they've added more talent. Why? Receiver was.
Speaker 1Allegedly, allegedly they've added more talent. I haven't seen them play yet. They have a lot of unproven receivers. We'll see.
Speaker 2Okay, if you've listened to our podcast for a while, we appreciate you. If you're just now joining in, hopefully you you like our podcast and and with joe bro being back, I'm about to end.
