Speaker 2It's uh , what is it ? Friday friday , it is friday 27th . We're close after christmas , so if you didn't listen to the last broadcast , Merry Christmas , we got New Year's . Next week we have Coswell playoff games next week , More NFL games Saturday , Actually all this week . Wednesday , Thursday , Saturday , Sunday NFL really is taking over , Like you know , just real quick before we start getting anything . You know the NFL had like 30 million viewers or something like that during Christmas Day and they like destroyed the NBA games Not surprising .
Speaker 2Yeah , but it's like . This is like the first time the NFL has really gotten into playing . Actually , no , sorry , second time Because they did the thing that Chiefs played on Christmas last year and those games are on Netflix too , and to be I to give netflix their credit after I watched the jake paul uh tyson fight where it was like issues and like buffering and all that .
Speaker 2Nothing , so much better . Nothing would like that happen during the netflix games . I almost I almost honestly looking back I wish it would have happened , because I didn't want to see the massacre that happened , um , especially for my team that day .
Speaker 2But yeah it was absolutely honestly , both games were a massacre on third , on Wednesday . So but yeah , we'll get to that . But I just want to like it was . It went off without a hitch . The they were very clear , didn't have any of the buffering issues . So give Netflix a lot of credit . Actually they're having a great week because they had all those and then they had freaking squid games come out that literally the day after christmas , so like it's a huge week for them . So if anybody that didn't have netflix by any means either got it for the nfl games or got it to watch squid game season two , so and by the way , if anybody's watching that that show is absolutely amazing does not suffer from the second , from like any type of second movie or second season uh terribleness .
Speaker 2It is absolutely monster and Jace doesn't watch it . So no reason to have a real conversation on that , because Jace doesn't watch real people shows , only animated . But no , it's awesome . So if you haven't watched it , give it a try . Definitely a fun watch . Scary watch , at times Emotional , but very good watch .
Speaker 2Alright , jace , you weren't on the podcast last time , so I wanted to first off set you up by giving you an opportunity , because you didn't get a chance to talk about any of the college football games that happened in the first round of the playoff . Not that there was a ton to talk about , I still managed to talk about it for close to an hour . So , um , again , that's me , you're you . So do you have any overarching thoughts about the first round of the playoff to be expected , to be expected okay ? Can I ask you a question ? Do you think those games would have gone much different if bama and old miss were in instead ? Let's just say in the , in this case that let's say Bama got in instead of what ? Would that be Indiana ? So we're looking at Indiana and SMU . Were the like the two . So Bama and Notre Dame . We're looking at like , maybe Ole Miss , ole Miss and Penn State . Maybe the Penn State game could have gone differently , but again , ole Miss would have had to play in the cold . Um , bama would have played against Notre Dame in in the freight , crazy , cold , notre Dame too . So you would have had two southern teams coming up or out , or South Carolina , if you want to include them .
Speaker 2Do you think those games would have gone much differently ? I don't think it would have been as necessarily as much to blow it as they probably were . But would it have been a ? I don't know , because the overarching thing was a lot of people were talking about how probably SMU and Indiana didn't deserve to be in the playoff . You know , what's funny is that nobody was talking about Tennessee , like nobody was having that argument about Tennessee not deserving to be in the play playoff , even though they got blown out the worst out of all the teams , but it's . But nobody . But everybody kept the kind of conversation was to those two SMU in Indiana .
Speaker 2But the thing is is that I don't think those other teams would have gone much better . So so you don't . So you think the games would do you think either one of those games could have been more competitive with a different team in there ? No , I think Bama versus potentially like a Notre Dame would potentially be a lot more competitive , but again , just like Bama , would have to deal with the cold . I don't know . But here's my next question to you , sir In your ideal , if you had a perfect world , what would be your perfect idea for the playoff ? Do you want it to be the 12 best teams , or do you want it to be the 12 most deserving teams ? Or do you have to put , if you put it on a scale , I think the automatic buy bullshit's stupid .
Speaker 2That's stupid . Yes , we both agree on that .
Speaker 1There's no reason I'd rather have it be the 12 best teams , so you don't want to be most deserving . No .
Speaker 2So you don't care what happens during the regular season . The 12 best teams get in , no matter what they did during the season . I think it should be more of a proper mix . Me too . Boise being undefeated .
Speaker 1Boise , they had one loss , but still there's not many one-loss teams , true , so them getting in , oh .
Speaker 2Boise would have been . Nobody questioned Boise because they won their conference and they're in , but they shouldn't be an automatic buy , oh .
Speaker 1I agree . I think a one-loss team should be considered always . If you're a one-loss , always considered Okay , you are undefeated with a good schedule , guaranteed , guaranteed . If you are undefeated with a Florida State schedule , then we can question you .
Speaker 2Florida State played fucking nobody all year and every game they played was close as fuck and they were blowing some teams out , but again Some teams , but those weren't the teams that were in their conference .
Speaker 2That one I'm totally not going to . Florida State fans do have a beef Because they used . The reason for not letting them in the playoff was their quarterback , even though they deserved it wholeheartedly . They finished it from start to finish . Florida State did the job right . Whether you want to believe that they'd be a good team in the playoff or not , they did what teams should set out to do when you start the season Go undefeated , win your conference . They deserved potentially to be in . Honestly , at the time I wasn't mad about Florida State at all because I truly thought that Florida State wasn't that . I didn't think Florida State was good enough to be in the playoff , but I just again , I would . I I do have to understand that they that , yeah , like you said , doesn't have to be a kind of a good mix between the two . I want it to be the 12 best teams amongst the teams . That does that did the job throughout the season right .
Speaker 2Bama lost three times to bad teams . They lost to bad teams two bad teams I get . One of their losses was to Tennessee , but even Tennessee didn't make any fight against Ohio State in the playoff . So it's really you can question how great Tennessee truly is , even though I do think Tennessee is really actually a good team . I just think they just weren't ready for what Ohio State in the playoff . So it's really you can question how great Tennessee truly is , even though I do think Tennessee is a really actually a good team . I just think they just weren't ready for what Ohio State had coming for them . But again they . They had two really bad losses to Vanderbilt and to whoever else . They lost to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma Like freaking . So they had their losses , they had their . You have 12 opportunities throughout the season to put up a good resume , to be in the spot where they could consider you one of the 12 best teams .
Speaker 2I just think that that whole argument is stupid . The Kirk Herbstreet part of it where he was talking about you should worry about what is your best wins . That should be what matters . The losses should matter too . Who you lost to should also matter . Maybe not the numbers , like . Obviously the number of losses shouldn't matter as much as the who you lost to and bama and south carolina and freaking old miss lost to very bad teams . And when you consider that against indiana who their only loss was to ohio state at the time , and when you consider smu , their only loss was to Ohio State at the time . And when you consider SMU , their only loss was to . I forget who they lost to , but it doesn't really matter . But I just think that it's a very hard thing to deal with . Okay , so that's it for the first round . You don't really have any other thoughts on that . You just they were blowouts . It is what it is .
Speaker 2So for now we have to talk about the second round , because I think , with the way our schedule is going to be , I'm probably going to do a reaction pod to this weekend's games on probably Monday or Tuesday , and then probably give Jace a break and then not have to have him come , and then he'll come in later on next week to do the preview of the week 17 games before we end up going to the Steelers game . Who knows when that's going to be , because sometime on Sunday hopefully , but yeah , so that'll be it . So I want to give you an opportunity to talk about the second round of the playoff games , which should tend to be much better . So we'll talk about the games as they are going to come up . So New Year's Eve , penn State's going to play Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl . I think that's in Arizona , if you had to guess , do you have any prevailing thoughts on how you think that game is going to go ? And winner is probably the two questions I probably need you to answer if we're doing a podcast about sports .
Speaker 1I think Penn State loses that game . I think they lose it after getting a lead and I think Boise does win that game by like three 17-3 is the score of that game .
Speaker 2I'm just worried about the idea that Boise State their best player is Ashton Gentry . No questions asked , he's the best player
Predictions for College Football Bowl Games
Speaker 2on the team . I think Penn State's whole defensive philosophy will be to load the box as much as possible and dare Boise State to throw the football Again ? Will Boise State want to go out and throw the football 30 , 40 times ? I don't think they want to . I think obviously they want to get the ball to Jenty , their best player . But I also think from who they played all year outside of Oregon , who they faced and got in loss to early on in the season , that game went down to the wire . So it wasn't like Boise State got destroyed by Oregon . So they know how to play tough teams like this . But I just don't know with this Penn State defensive line , if Penn State puts all their resources towards that and asks the Boise State quarterback to make some throws , will they be able to ? That's the question . Because obviously once you if Boise State , I forget the quarterback's name , let me make sure I get the guy's name before I keep talking about him Madsen , mad , madsen , madden , madsen , I believe his name is . So he has like 2000 yards passing , 22 touchdowns , three picks . So if he makes some big throws down the field it'll make the secondary have to respect him a little bit more and then it'll light up . Lighten up the box for gentee to kind of do more of his work , even though every team they've played this year has known that Gentee is the motor of the offense . They've been throwing more guys in the box and it doesn't matter to him because he's pretty much destroyed everybody . Heck , I think even Oregon they had actually a pretty decent game . So it's not like they haven't played great teams like that and still been able to run the football . But I just think with Penn State , the way that defense is built up , I do question that a little bit and I think that Boise State's passing defense probably won't be as good . But again , penn State's passing offense isn't great . So who knows , and I think Boise State's probably their rushing defense is probably the better part of their defense . But then you have to worry about the two-headed monster they have at running back , with Singleton and the other running back .
Speaker 2I forget his , why am I forgetting his name , singleton ? And it doesn't really matter . But yeah , they have a two-headed running back system . That is also great . So literally kind of like Ohio State , where they have two guys . As soon as you think one of them's getting tired , they just bring in the other one , and he's a bowling ball too . So I'm probably going to pick Penn State to win this game , and I think my whole thing was with even though I do not trust their head coach . Why am I forgetting his name now ? This is a bad time for Penn State . I'm forgetting his name now . You don't remember his name either , do you ? This is a bad time for both of us to forget his name . Speaker 2It's the most regular name of all time , even though he's black . It's hilarious , um , but yes , james franklin , even even though we've questioned all year long and I think when we did our confidence rankings as to who we thought we had the most confidence in college football-wise to actually win the whole playoff , I think both of us had our issues with James Franklin in close games . Is he going to be able to buck up in those big situations to make the right calls to win those type of games ? And obviously in the first game against SMU , it didn't matter the , they just destroyed , they rolled SMU . There really was no shot .
Speaker 2I think this game could be closer to where maybe James Franklin would be more of an opportunity . He'd have more of an opportunity to either win or mess up the game in a way that we thought he usually does throughout his coaching career , especially while he was . He's been there . But I just think their defense and here's I think the problem is with Penn State's offense . Even though they rolled against SMU , it wasn't like their offense was amazing . They didn't pass the ball that well . It's not like Drew Aller has made some plays , like he has some wow throws , especially in the SMU game where he was extending plays doing all heck in the organ game , I think is probably his best game at penn state . Extending plays running when he needs to , like he , he can have some wow moments , but he's not ever consistent throughout a good period of time to where you can just guarantee he's gonna . You're gonna get that out of him right , few and far between moments exactly . So I'm going to pick penn state to win the game . I think they're favored by 11 and a half they're they're favored by 11 . So I , if I was betting the game , I'd probably bet boise state plus the points , because I do think boise state can keep it within , especially if boise is able to run the football at all .
Speaker 2I think this game could definitely come down to the final , final moments and actually pretty close . But I think penn , think Penn State's going to win the game . That's where I'm at , especially since the bowl's in Fiesta . Well , I think it's in Arizona , so it's definitely nowhere near where you're going to think like either team's going to have a decided advantage when it comes to fandom . Like I think Penn State fans are going to travel pretty well and Boise's probably closer to Arizona than Penn State is . But again , who knows ? So that's what we got on that Next game this is going to be New Year's Day Chick-fil-A Bowl , texas going to Arizona State . The Peach Bowl is in . I think the Peach Bowl is in Georgia .

So they're going to . Even with their backups , they still destroyed Clemson running the football .
Speaker 2If Arizona State can pose any better of a matchup problem against Texas running the football , it puts more pressure on Quinn Ewers to go out there and make plays and obviously I'm not sure if you watched a lot of Quinn Ewers this year he hasn't been crazy good . I think his last crazy game was probably against Michigan . But ever since then , ever since the oblique injury and then the ankle injury , I think he was a little better last week when it came to him moving around the pocket , but it's not like he's been amazing . He honestly regressed a little bit , honestly , from what he was supposed to be when he came out of high school . So it honestly seems like at some points they're coaching around Quinn Ewers rather than actually relying on him to really win them football games , hence why they ran the ball so much and barely he barely had to pass the ball . Last game again , it works . So I'm not gonna sit here and say that they were going to run the football no matter what .
Speaker 2But if Arizona State can have any sort of fight that way , maybe the game could be a lot closer . But I don't know , I think . I think this game could definitely a rout . I think this game , I think Texas really does , especially since this game is going to be in the south anyway . So Texas is really going to have a real . Their fans are going to show out . They're probably going to take over whatever stadium that they're in and I think Texas is going to be like a home crowd for them . And I think Arizona State's offense has not dealt with a team like Texas' defense in a minute , even though I think because Cam Scadaboo , I believe , is the running back's name for Arizona State he's like their best player . Texas defensive line is scary .

If you can throw the football against Texas , you're going to be able to do crazy numbers , because Clemson threw the ball for over 300 yards against them and Clemson has struggled throwing the football all year against teams that are of their same talent . So , with that being the case , if Arizona State could throw the football well , I think they would have a better shot . But I just think their offense is way too predicated on the run and Texas' defensive line is going to be able to control this football game and I think Texas is going to win the football game . Ohio State vs Oregon Playoff Matchup
Speaker 2When he just took us to the second round of the playoff and we had to play the best team , because of their stupid playoff system and the way they had the automatic buys , it was trash . In a normal playoff system . That makes sense . We wouldn't be playing oregon in the round . We wouldn't see them until the third at least , if not the championship game , because they're the one seed .
Speaker 2Right . So in Oregon , and honestly , the other end , oregon , got screwed in this too . The fact that they had to play the second best team in the whole playoff , probably the first best . Ohio State's more talented than Oregon ?
Speaker 1I don't think anybody really questions that Haven't seen you beat them , so you were the second best . Until you can beat them .
Speaker 2Fine , I'm talking about more talent . There is not any more talent team in this playoff than Ohio State , from top to bottom . So , like the fact that Oregon has to play a team like this in the second round screws them over too .

Speaker 2How does Penn State have the first two games of being Ohio State ? No for sure . So I don't think Dave's coaching for his job . I don't think Ohio State gets destroyed by Oregon . We can lose to Oregon . I totally think that is definitely a possibility . But I do think the fact that they barely beat us at probably a worse version of us than what they were , because our defense is so much better now than what it was against Oregon last time .
Speaker 2I agree Our defense gets a lot more pressure onto the quarterback . Our corners are playing better because they don't have to guard , they don't have to play Again . Playing corners is probably the hardest position on the football field because you have to cover somebody that knows what they're doing at all times and you have to be as athletic as them and you have to react to everything that they do . And it makes your job harder when you have to cover a wide receiver for three seconds , four seconds , five seconds Like that is that's what makes the job hard . But when you , if your defensive line can actually get pressure and you , oh , oh , let's just say you don't have to blitz the safeties , the safeties actually stay back and kind of help to make sure the deep balls don't get over the top of you .

Speaker 2They can actually play safety , play deep safety and and actually help be that last stand before the end zone if a big play happens . So the fact that all that is the case , I think the Ohio State defense is a lot better now at getting pressure without having to send safeties . They can keep the front seven to stay the front seven and the back and the secondary can stay the secondary and make sure you're not having big plays over top . So I don't think Oregon has had to face this version of the Ohio State defense and I think the Ohio State offense . If they play like they did against Tennessee against Oregon , I don't think Oregon beats us because our offense wasn't nearly that good against Oregon last time . And Jeremiah Smith as much as I've been saying Jeremiah Smith is the truth all year that game against Tennessee , there was nobody in the world that had a shot to stop Jeremiah Smith from doing what he did that last game against Tennessee . There was nobody in the world that had a shot to stop Jeremiah Smith from doing what he did that last game against Tennessee . You can put it in any corner that you want in college football . It wasn't going to happen . So do I think Oregon has a corner that can stop Jeremiah Smith from doing what he wants to do . They don't . All it takes for Ryan Day and Chip Kelly to say , hey , we probably should throw that guy the ball more which is exactly what they did and he's going to eat . There is no stopping him . And guess what ? You still have Emeka and you still have Carnell Tate as well that you have to deal with , and our offensive line seems to actually be able to block . They actually blocked against Tennessee last game .
Speaker 2So I think again , oregon is a different monster because I think their defensive line is much better . But I think that the Ohio State offensive line will not be totally destroyed by Oregon's defensive line . So as long as that's the case , the towel on the outside and heck . Let's not even mention Travion and Quinshawn . Those two are monsters too , and they actually throw them the football in space . Hey , go out on a route you can actually go catch the football . He's just kind of like the last line of defense type of safety . But it didn't matter . It wasn't like Kansas City was hitting a bunch of deep shots , it was a slow but certain progression down the field . You don't know how many times Kansas City went 4-on-4 down and the Steelers had no shot , because it was just a slow , methodical drive , not just running the football , they threw the football , they had short throws . They didn't really have a bunch of deep balls , but it was just . They just kept methodically going down the field and there was nothing the Steelers defense could do .
Speaker 1It didn't help that Russ Wilson has been having stinkers of games , is having stinkers of games .
Speaker 2Is Justin Fields still hurt ? Yeah , he wasn't available in this last game . I think he was like an emergency third string quarterback . They needed him , but he was not ready to go by any means . It wasn't like Russell Wilson 23-37 , 205 yards and an interception . He wasn't playing great . Again , you're playing against a good Kansas City defense . Their defense is good , I know , but he hasn't played great for 33 games and Pickens playing great . Again , you're playing . It's a good kansas city defense their defense is good .
Speaker 1No , but he hasn't played great for three straight games and pickens came back for this game , but pickens didn't play all that great .
Speaker 2Three receptions , 50 yards , quick pickens has a lot of almost nice catches yeah , but here's my thing is that a lot of his , a lot of his game is throw the deep ball to pickens . Hopefully he makes the catch like that is the offense , because as much as I think we have a more diverse running game in the way that we do things , there's a lot of a lot of misdirection and stuff like that and the way they do their blocking schemes , but the actual passing game is not but here's the thing it doesn't change .

Speaker 2Pat Firemouth was the leading receiver in this game , like he was eating in the middle of the field . Firemuth is the truth . He's awesome . Seven receptions , 60 yards and we ran the football effectively had over 200 yards rushing in this game . Um naji had 74 yards rushing , jaylen warren had 71 yards . Russell wilson ran for 55 yards in a touchdown this game . He looked like young russ for a minute he did , but it's just .
Speaker 2We don't have enough weapons on our offense to like sustain long drives and really do it , especially against a team of Kansas City's caliber . And this is when I think having fields would potentially be an upgrade , because fields adds an element to the offense that I think when games like this happen there there's an unpredictability to it . I think Russell Wilson has been playing better when it comes to using his legs , but I just don't know . I think we need a spark and I'm like as much as Pickens is great , he's just not trustworthy and I'm like we have nobody else to make a big place for us if he's not doing it . And I just think this game was an antithesis to that . And I've been saying it all year no matter how good we do throughout the rest of the season , do I believe that in the playoffs against a team like Kansas City or like Buffalo , that we're going to be able to do anything special , like really do anything , like really do damage ? That we're going to be able to do anything special , like really do anything , like really do damage ? I don't think so . Anything anybody outside the ravens , obviously , because I think the steelers know how to play against the ravens is if they have everybody on their roster . So , like , that's , that's how I feel about that . So I'm again it just I wasn't surprised . I picked the steelers to win the game because I'm like I have to , but like I truly thought that this game could have went this way . It sucked that . It looked as bad as it did . The score wasn't as bad . If you just watch the scoreboard it wasn't terrible , but I think it was worse if you actually watched the game of how it almost felt . Like it was like a crying baby just sitting there flailing in the wind and Kansas City was just putting us in their lap and just saying , hey , well , we're going to rock you to sleep tonight on Christmas baby . That's how that game went and that part sucked .
Struggles of Steelers and Ravens Success
Speaker 2But Patrick Mahomes played well 29-38 , 320-yard , three touchdowns , zero picks . They only ran the football for 69 yards . So it wasn't like they ran the football like crazy against us , but there was that 320 yards . Travis Kelsey had 84 yards and a touchdown . He looked like his old self again .
Speaker 2It wasn't like Pittsburgh put up much of a fight , especially in the middle of the field . Xavier Worthy had 79 yards , eight receptions in the touchdown . Justin Watson had a touchdown in 60 yards , two catches . Hollywood Brown got involved . Smajay P Ryan , juju Smith-Schuster Dehop I made a bet on him to to catch the football five to four times and he only caught the football twice . And they didn't need him to because they just gave it to everybody else , like there were just so many weapons that Kansas City used to dismantle our defense throughout that whole day . And that's exactly what they did .
Speaker 2And I'm not crazy surprised , but it's just , it's disappointing , it doesn't make me mad , I'm just disappointed and it's just . And again , now we're out of first place . Now the Ravens have it , so hopefully we have a shot to get it back later on in the season . But it's not very likely . We're going to be a wild card team playing either Kansas City or Baltimore in the first round . Second game of the day Ravens-Texans . Ravens win the game 31-2 .
Speaker 2People are starting to question CJ Stroud and he's playing so terribly and I'm like I've been saying this all season , but I'm just going to reiterate it again for anybody that hasn't listened to the podcast we've done . When CJ trusts his offensive line to block for him and he trusts for every wide receiver to be where they need to go , he is a different quarterback . Obviously , they saw that in his first year when nobody saw it coming . And again , I think the offense is probably a little bit antiquated to a certain extent when it comes to how they try to get the ball to people . I think they're not very the offensive coordinator . As much as we try to give him credit as to him being a genius and all that , he's definitely not that .
Speaker 2And I think the fact that we have law they that this Houston team lost so many wide receivers this year . They lost Stefan , stefan Diggs Sorry , yeah , I was right . Right , yeah , they lost Stefan Diggs . They lost tank Dell and now they're coming in this game which is Nico Collins and then everybody else .
Speaker 2Like they didn't really have anybody else to like really be scared of on this offense , like I , obviously they have Mechie , who is like an okay receiver but he's not very effective . Robert Woods is an older guy but he's just not necessarily somebody you have to be scared of . Dalton Schultz is a great middle of the field , tight end he's great , but he's not crazy dynamic . You're worried about getting beat down the field for it Mixon , which was not effective at all in this game . Houston couldn't run the football whatsoever and I just think that CJ cannot trust his offensive line to block for him consistently and when that's the case , I think it ruins everything . You can just tell his confidence was shot by how bad this offensive line is . I'm not saying that he's never going to get that back , I just think he doesn't trust it .

The running game was good earlier on this year with Joe Mixon , but even that has started to deteriorate . So I'm just like that . That offensive line has done nothing for them at all this year . And you can tell that with Stroud , even when he has time to get the passes out , it's like he's almost antsy . It's like he's like oh , when is the next guy going to come and hit me in the back because I can't trust my left tackle to block for me , or I'm going to get this pressure up the middle and I'm just sitting there like he will get that back when he starts trusting it again .
Speaker 2And I think the offensive coordinator probably needs to . Maybe he's just lost a little bit of that being able because his offense is a lot like San Fran's , but San Fran's is built off having a good offensive line and you can tell with San Fran , when they lost their best left tackle , like their offensive line started breaking down . They're like , oh , we look lost . They're like , oh , we look lost , and that offense really started looking bad . So now that this offensive line for Houston isn't doing well , that same type of offense is really struggling . So it makes sense and CJ isn't appreciating it Like he's not having a good offensive line with him and it infects every other part of that game and everybody's starting to question him .
Speaker 2It sucks , because I really do think , like everybody should believe that he's that guy and you should see all the other issues with that team that keeps him from being able to be great . But nobody's going to believe that it's all the quarterback's fault . When they lose , they give the quarterback too much credit when they win . That's how the NFL works and this is how it goes . But you know Baltimore , though , monster game . Lamar Jackson , 10 of 15 . He only threw the football 10 to 15 times in this game . He didn't need to . They were destroying 168 yards .
Speaker 2Lamar had 168 yards passing , two touchdowns . Derrick Henry 27 carries , 147 yards , a touchdown . He was averaging over five yards , a carry . Lamar Jackson four carries , 87 yards and a touchdown . It was just they were destroying . Mark Andrews had a big play in this game , like he was caught in the open . He managed to catch one right in the middle of the open field and he got a long , 67-yard reception for a touchdown . The Baltimore did not have to do a lot in this game because of how putrid the offense of Houston was . But you know , it's just good to see that . Well , not as a fan of the Steelers , but in general , it's good to see the Ravens playing their best ball . Right now , looking like the end of the season , they're playing their best ball both offensively and defensively . Their defense is playing better as of recently . Who knows if that's really going to be the case when they go and face Buffalo and when they face the Chiefs in the playoffs . That is a different question . But as of right now , they're playing their best ball and they're playing well . You have to give them that credit .
Speaker 2And then the Thursday night game . Last night Seahawks beat the Bears 6-3 . This game was an absolute snore . It was . I can't even say a slugfest , because that implies they were throwing punches . Nobody was throwing punches . This was a couple jabs and just run away from each other all night type of game , because I putrid these .
Speaker 2Both these offenses were geno smith 160 yards , 17 to 23 . Caleb williams 122 yards , 16 to 28 for an interception . Um , both . Neither team really ran the football that effectively . Chicago had a little over 100 yards rushing . Seattle had 122 yards rushing . Zach's driving at 57 yards and that looked okay , but it really wasn't great . It was just too .
Speaker 2I'm not even going to sit here and say that the defense were playing great . This is all about the bad offense for both teams in this game and I will give the seattle a little bit of credit and say that they , like when they're playing their best , their offense can look a lot better than what they did last night , and give a little credit chicago . Their defense is good , but they have good players in their defense but they don't play well as a defense together . So I'm not going to sit here and give chicago a ton of credit . They're like they shut seattle down , but this was two teams that just offensively did not have it and it showed the game was just gross .
Speaker 2This was not a defensive battle 6-3 . This was oh my god , somebody needs to win this game type of 6-3 . Somebody has to make the right move to win this football game . The whole , like the 6-3 was in the first half . Nobody scored the second half . I didn't even watch the second half of ball because I was sitting there . Like this is bad , I'm not , I'm not touching the rest of this game . Um , but no , it was . This game was just really bad , wasn't good , it's , uh , it's . It was a gross game , gross . But again , I will give the chicago a little bit of like . They had a chance to win the game . At the end of the game I said in the game twice but that sucked . They had a chance to go out there and do the job and Caleb threw a pick in the last drive . So I don't know , he's so mid , he's so mid , but I think get him a better coach , maybe he'll play better . But it's just .

But if I have to pick a quarterback that I believe will make less mistakes in this game , it's going to be Joe Burrow Boenix . As good as he has been at certain times this year , I just don't trust him to not make any mistakes at all . He's still a young quarterback figuring things out , not a young as in his age , but young in the nfl type of quarterback . Uh , so I'm gonna go ahead and take joe burrow and the bangles to win that game . I agree , are you actually writing it down ? You just don't draw pictures . Next game saturday night , we got Cardinals-Rams . I'm going to make this very simple Cardinals with Kyler Murray is not a trustworthy football team .

And he has found that in Minnesota and watching that game last week where he just said F it , throw it up to Justin Jefferson . Justin Jefferson was double covered on that deep ball . There is no reason any quarterback should ever try that throw . But guess what ? Sam Darnold , talent wise , has the , has the , everything in the world . He has the arm . He was able to get outside the pocket this was with an ankle injury , by the way that he got that escape ability to get out , get to kind of take a step up and make that throw and he puts it on a dot to Justin Jefferson and Justin Jefferson just does the rest and gets the touchdown on that .
Speaker 2With Sam Darnold playing like this with those weapons that he has on his at his disposal , this Vikings team is absolutely scary . And as much as I think the Packers are a very good football team . Jordan Love is up and down . Josh Jacobs he's played awesome this year . He's over 1,000 yards rushing this year , 13 touchdowns .
Speaker 2You know what's crazy ? Jace loves talking about Jacobs and he hasn't really been able to say a lot of bad things this year because he's balled out too . But against this Vikings defense that knows how to play well , they play very complimentary football , they stay in front of you , they're not going to make any huge mistakes and when you have this Vikings team that can literally score any which way they want , it's a very hard day and I don't think the Packers have the pass rush to get after Sam Darnold to rattle him at all . So I think he's going to have a fun little time . As long as his ankle's fine , he's going to sit back there , make his plays , get it to the right guys , addison and Jefferson , and they're going to ball out and win this football game .

And again , I think detroit's defense is probably the achilles heel for them , because they have no hope of guarding this minnesota vikings offense . But at the same time , that detroit offense is so elite I just don't know , even with the v Vikings defense being good , do they have enough to stop all the weapons that Detroit has at their disposal ? I just don't think so either . So like that will be an absolute insane football game week 18 . And that game happens at 425 . So we're probably not going to be watching it . Probably watching it for our phones , depending on when the game is for Pittsburgh and Cincinnati . But yeah , I think that game's going to be awesome . So I think Detroit's going to go ahead and destroy San Fran here . Maybe the game might be close and we might think , probably saying it is , but I think Detroit probably still wins because offensively they just cannot be stopped , especially by the San Fran team . That's just hurt everywhere and they have really no shot to win this game , even though they probably do , because they're all paid and they're all very talented guys too . But you know , I think detroit wins and that's about it .
Speaker 2Um , oh , by the way , real quick , how did you see the clip of , uh , joelle and bead yelling at the , the ref , the female ref ? It sparked a whole thing because they were talking about because joelle b was chewing her out like not physically , it was more of a metaphorical saying when he was yelling at her because of a bad call or something like that , and she teched him up and sent him out of the basketball game and everybody was talking about how , like there was obviously see people on one side saying that he shouldn't be talking to a woman like that . That's like he's using , he's trying to intimidate her , and the other side is like , oh , but she's a woman in a man's sport and she should be treated like every other official , not necessarily as a woman , and I'm like I think it goes both ways . I think to a certain extent , you just have to treat her like another official . I did hear one person say that no one ref should be able to tech like disqualify a player from a game . That should be a group decision so you can keep stuff like that from happening . Because I think they said after the game that she was like that she said after she was like I messed up and all that .
Speaker 2But the fact that this is again , I think , women being officials is definitely being refs is a good thing , because they want to have the job . If they can do the job well , there's no question they should be doing it . But they should be treated as if they're official , no matter if they're a man or woman , because they're playing in a predominantly man sport . They can't change the fact that all these dudes in the NBA are 6'8" and look big and tall over her and when they're in the heat of battle they obviously those guys have jobs on the line Like those are the guys that get paid big money for this . Like that . That's a very high pressure environment .
Speaker 2So I don't think you can necessarily look at Joel Embiid and say he should be able to control his emotion in the moment and be not intimidating to a female official Like that's what he's thinking about . That could be an alien at the , could be an alien at the as a referee and he'd still be going crazy like that because that's what he does . He's in the heat of battle and he's out there trying to win a basketball game . That's this the night before Christmas . It's like it's definitely still a big game that people are watching , even though on Christmas Day nobody really was watching comparison to the NFL .
Speaker 2But like I think that was a weird . It was a weird thing to happen when , especially when the NBA is trying to , like you know , keep their , keep their spirits up , and you're like , oh , you still have games going on and it's like a little negative headline again . We don't really talk about basketball until after the , after football is over . But I figured that was one thing , that kind of popped up that I was just like it's the weird , weird thing to happen because even the NFL like as much we've had women officials like out there doing it . You know , it's funny that , now that I think about it , female officials have never actually they've always been sideline officials Like do you ever see like an actual female official be like the head official or anything like that that people have to talk to ?
Speaker 2I haven't , which I think maybe it's the NFL knowing that coaches and players chew out these officials all the time and don't want to have that situation happen at all . Again , I think I have to give the NFL a lot of credit that they think about everything in terms of what looks good to the audience , and I feel like they're very cognizant of that and they treat everything as if they're running a TV show , and that's how they do things in a way that the NBA can probably learn a little bit from them . But no , it was a weird story that I wanted to talk about real quick , but that's all I have here . Let's go ahead and end this podcast .
