SPEAKER_03One, two, a check one, two.
SPEAKER_00Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
SPEAKER_03With two minutes to go, it's fourth and thirty-two. Hello and welcome back to the Fourth and 32 podcast. I'm your host, Cole Smitson, the locksmith. And join me, it's the wettest man in podcasting. It is Slick Willie, Will Einfeld. How are you doing, bud?
SPEAKER_02I'm good. I'm good. I'm uh I'm glad to be back on here. We got a lot of fun stuff to talk about. And yeah, all's good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Big trades around the NFL. Uh, we got some NFL drama to discuss. You know, we love to do that on this show. And yeah, it's been way too long since we did a podcast. We're in the the slow part of the NFL season, but the NFL season has officially begun uh because June 1st just passed. That's why some of these trades were able to get put through. And uh yeah, uh it this is a gambling show traditionally, but in the offseason, we got to talk about some news. I wanted to just say game one of the finals just happened. Shout out the Knicks for getting a win there. That's just a needy fan base uh that would love a championship, and a needy in a good way, like uh a tortured fan base that would love a championship. And being a Northeaster and being a Raiders fan, I kind of feel for them. And I I feel myself pulling for him, even though I'm surrounded by Spurs fans. I'm just I just want good basketball, and uh I know Will's on the other side there, just to bring up some gambling, because I know I know he's got a big bet uh for the Spurs. So you want to discuss that for a second?
SPEAKER_02Back in March, I picked the winners of the three major sports. I picked the Spurs to win the NBA championship, picked the Dodgers to win the N MLB, and then I picked the Rams for next season. Um, and yeah, I've been riding the riding the Spurs all the way through the playoffs. They're they're in the finals here after uh taking down OKC, and I'm cheering for them. I love watching Wimby and and all the the dogs that he has around him.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's a perfect transition into the first story. I I love watching the Spurs too. I'm just rooting for good basketball, but uh that's a perfect transition because the Rams are a great pick for next year's Super Bowl because they're clearly loaded up. Uh, they're getting players, and I mean they made a blockbuster. This is uh this is an all-timer level trade, especially for a team that is in all-win mode like the Rams are. They go out and they get Miles Garrett. Kind of a shocker. I mean, the rumors were starting to swirl a little bit. Uh, I think people were kind of iffy on whether or not he would get traded. And he gets traded to the Rams for Jared Verse. I was shocked that he was put in the deal, but they didn't have to give up too many first-round picks with him. Uh 27 first, he's probably going to be late in the draft if everything goes right here. And then a third rounder in 2029, which uh Will confirmed uh from his sources, uh, that only becomes a first round pick if they trade Miles Garrett back into the AFC North. So I thought I thought that was an interesting stipulation in the trade. It makes a lot of sense. They don't want to have to go against him twice a year when he is as good of a player as he is, kind of gives them some assurances that he's at least gonna stay out of their division, but absolute blockbuster here for the Rams. I mean, they loaded up that secondary, trading a first round pick for Trent McDuffie. And it's it's it's win now or you know, die trying for the Rams. They're definitely in fuck them picks mode again. So yeah, I mean, a lot to discuss here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, probably a just the first, second, and third, and then and then first. But yeah, it's Dodds. I got them at plus 700. They're already now the favorite at plus 550. And uh yeah, I I think this is a great trade for them. I know Jared First has has been a pro bowler and he was their leading sack guy um for the last two seasons, but it's different when you have a guy like Miles Garrett. And uh yeah, you know, he's it's gonna be it's gonna be insane to see him on this Rams team. And there's even rumors of Aaron Donald potentially making a return there. So I know that would be so scary.
SPEAKER_03That would be terrifying, yeah. He posted a video of him working out saying, Oh, this trade's got me feeling things. He obviously trade for the guy who had the most sacks in a single season last year of all time, um, and a guy that's still very much in his prime. I was actually talking to some guys I play basketball with, and they're like, Oh, how many years does he really have left? And this is a a guy who's an absolute athletic marvel of a human being. I wouldn't be shocked if he's got five prime seasons left in him.
SPEAKER_02Um set the sack record last year. Yeah, he's he's still in his prime.
SPEAKER_03No, 100%. But I I how long can this go to like really make the trade worth it, especially given up Verse? I I think he's gonna be good for a while. Like, I it feels like he's gonna retire a Ram and be there for the long haul. I mean, they're they're uh guys that do the cap are probably scrambling right now. Gotta pay Puka Nakua. Uh Drake Lemon just got a fat bag and and you got to make that decision. Obviously, some people are rumoring maybe they want to move on from Puka, uh, which makes it all more interesting that they do draft Ty Simpson in the first round. They'll get a receiver that was available there. But if if this team's healthy, I don't see how they're not the best team in the NFL.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for sure. Yeah, I um I mean, even if it is only three more years with Garrett, that's that's probably how long you're getting with Stafford to Exactly. So yeah, this is this is win now mentality. This is exactly how they loaded up when they when they beat the Bengals um a few years back. And yeah, no, this team is awesome and it's gonna be a lot of fun to watch.
SPEAKER_03A hundred percent. I wouldn't be shocked if they go get a veteran wide receiver to add to this room. They got some guys that that have shown stuff uh as sort of you know side pieces, if you will, uh, in Jordan Whittington and Mumfield, Xavier Smith, uh, but I I I think like a Stefan Diggs on a one-year contract to win a Super Bowl kind of similarly to Odell Beckham or Antonio Brown. I know it was a little longer contract, uh, but when he went to the Buccaneers and won a Super Bowl there, I wouldn't be shocked if they go get a guy like that that's still hanging around, a veteran that can still play, but you don't have to sign long term. And the GM Les need already came out and said Matt Stafford, like they signed him through 2027, but this is a year-by-year thing. They're gonna see how good he feels. And when he's ready to retire, you got Devontae Adams for one more season, guaranteed money. So this is this is load up. You have a two-year window, pretty much guaranteed. Maybe you can push it to three, but it's go win these Super Bowls now, especially with all that talk. Sean McVay, does he want to walk away, go to broadcasting, maybe come back later? He's so young, you know, he's got a family. It's it's curious to see what the future holds. But I I know for 2026 and 2027, like this team's absolutely loaded. Their defensive line is crazy. They have good linebackers. Like Landman was awesome last year. Yeah, he was. And then that secondary, like McDuffie, Cam Curl, Quinn Lake, Cameron Kitchens. Mm-hmm. That's just that's uh Jalen Watson, the other chief. Like that's that is a scary, scary defense. And then the other, and that was probably their weakness last year. And then the other side of the ball, you got Sean McVeigh coaching up this offense with all the superstars that we know in Matt Stafford, you know, Puka Nakua, if he can keep his head on straight, Devontae Adams, uh, the the uh I don't know, I was gonna say trio, but the the quadrant of tight ends. Yeah. Now with their new rookie tight end. Like I mean, I guess you could say like weakness, but I wouldn't even call it that, is offensive line, these aren't household names by any means, but this is offensive line that that kept the MVP upright last season. Yeah. And I Matt Stafford's MVP odds have to be number one at this point as well, honestly.
SPEAKER_02And and they really could take their pick of these these veteran receivers that are still available. And Tyree Kale on this offense. Oh my god. So scary. Oh my god. Keenan Allen, I think, still available. He, I mean, he can go catch passes for you. There's maybe goods.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. I mean, you can still do something. Uh if you can stay on the field. But yeah, they're why wouldn't you go? This is classic, like uh Warriors in the in the late 2010s when just random veteran guys want to go play for this team because they have a chance to win the title. Like that, this is what happens when you have a lots and loaded team. A guy like Aaron Donald comes out of retirement, he probably wouldn't be playing you know, 90% of the snaps at 35, but we get Aaron Donald's pass rush downs. I'm sure he could. I mean, the man's still a beast, but you play him half the snaps and and you get Aaron Donald stuff in the excuse me, stuff in the run and rushing the passer, like yeah, Miles Garrett. Like, this team is just unfair. It just shows you like the power of a of a good front office and the and this awesome head coach. Like, I I think that was one of the complaints some people had about uh drafting Ty Simpson is why wouldn't the next veteran quarterback want to come play after Stafford leads? Yeah, yeah, that's fair. Because they just do things the right way, you know, and they were they were a play away from being in the Super Bowl last year. I doubt the Patriots would have had much more success against them. Yeah. Yeah. So I mean, I know their divisions loaded. Obviously, the Seahawks won the Super Bowl last year. That's gonna those two games are gonna be primetime television next season. But where we where where are you feeling on their chances? Like obviously they're the favorite right now from Vegas, but you you all in, you have that bet going, you're like, all right, Spurs win the championship. I'm not cashing out. Like I'm I'm watching this play through.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I'm I'm I'm pretty in on it. I think if I get a nice cash out option, maybe when they're in the playoffs, I might think about it. But yeah, now this team is is ready to to rumble. And I I the only thing I think that really holds them back is the same question we had last year is can Stafford play? Can he play every single game? Can he play every down that they need him to? And I mean he he showed us all last year.
SPEAKER_03So and if they were ever gonna be a Tom Brady situation, I know it wasn't drafted late like Brady was, but you have a team this loaded, and Ty Simpson comes in, he's got Sean McFay as the head coach. Like, why couldn't it be this Rams team? So yeah, I mean it's it's gotta feel good to be a Rams fan. Um, my dad kind of roots for the Rams. He he likes him just because his dad was a Rams fan, you know, because LA, the Rams leave him, and him being a Raiders fan, that's how I got it. But you got the affliction. I really wish he he picked the Rams, you know what I mean? Sometimes. But uh it's always it uh, you know. I I feel like sometimes when good things happen to the Rams, it's like uh, you know, that's for you, Gramps. He's dead, by the way, for context for people. I think that's didn't make any sense. It's like call him, you know. But uh uh anyway, uh just puts a smile on my face. I like rooting for that team. So uh yeah, I think the other big trade, uh the Rams were in the mix, but there's no way they're gonna be able to make it work once they did the Miles Gare trade. Uh shout out Diana Rossini for having this story early, I guess. Uh uh we won't bring that back up, but AJ Brown traded from the Eagles to the Patriots for a first-round pick in 2028. I think that was the sticking point. They didn't want to give up a pick in 2027. Kind of makes sense with how good the draft might be. And the Patriots being honest about their chances of falling back to earth with a first place schedule, um, and a fifth round pick in 2027, I believe. So big trade for the Patriots. Uh, they're not quite as locked and loaded as the Rams are, but they needed this number one receiver, especially with Dick Sleeve.
SPEAKER_02This feels like more of the team that that I could see in the Super Bowl now with AJ Brown. I love Romeo Dobbs too, as a number two alongside him on the other side. And you're not saying more than the Rams. No, not more than the Rams, but more than the Patriots were last year.
SPEAKER_03Sure, sure, sure, sure, yeah. Yeah. They kind of had a lucky run to the example that makes sense. Yeah, no, I I forgot about the Dobbs acquisition, but uh that kind of resets this whole receiving court because I think the other guys they do have will play nice roles for them. The younger guys, maybe one of them pops really is the the for sure number three uh guy there, and then that defense should be pretty good again. I mean, they spent a ton of money last offseason, they still have a quarterback on a rookie contract. This is how you avoid being the team that goes from a Super Bowl exit and kind of a lucky run to be being seven wins or something like that. Kind of like the commanders last year. I know Jaden Daniels got hurt, but I don't think they're gonna be that good anyway, just because first place schedule and and you know, or they had a second place. It doesn't matter. You know, better, better schedule and uh losing some of these players and just not equipped to make a deep run like you were the year before.
SPEAKER_02Definitely. I and I kind of love this on both sides. I mean, the Eagles kind of pretty much got what they got back what they traded for Brown initially. Um they got two soup they made two Super Bowls, they won one. Um and uh yeah, and I I think it's gonna help them kind of reset um with their receivers. Devontae Smith can can take the number one role, and then on the other side, the Patriots. I mean, yeah, no, I love this. You're getting a happy Vrabel um who's reuniting with AJ Brown, who didn't, I mean, he didn't want to trade him when Tennessee moved on from him uh a few years ago. So they're reuniting. Um AJ Brown looks so happy. I don't know if you've seen any of those pictures. He's just he's smiling at training camp. And yeah, no, it's I mean, he's a true, he's a true deep threat and and number one receiver.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, a hundred percent. Yeah, not quite training camp yet. It's whatever they call it. Off-season uh uh OTAs, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Off-season team activities or whatever. But yeah, I'm sure he's happy to be out of there. We gotta bring up the drama from the Eagles. You've heard the rumors, right? The I mean, probably AJ Brown, Jalen Hurts rumors, why they had a falling out? I um I don't have a no. No, what I don't know if this is true, but I've definitely seen people talking about it. But basically the rumor, because people had speculated for a while that they had a falling out. Because I want to say Jalen Hurts is the godfather of AJ Brown's kid or vice versa, one of those. And AJ Brown got married this offseason, and Jalen Hurts wasn't there, right? Like, not in the party, like not there. And so, like, that's a pretty big falling out, right? Yeah. And apparently it was because AJ Brown and Hassan Reddick were both banging the same side chick with a massage therapist. Okay, this isn't a Deshaun Watson situation, but consensually. Okay. And AJ Brown got upset about it and came to Jalen Hurts as his friend, like, hey, tell him to knock it off, or whatever happened there. And Jalen Hurts was just so focused on football, you know how how he has all those robotic responses. Well, it's like one of those. He was just like, you know, God's great, man. And you know, uh football's a team game. And he's like, dude, what the fuck? So, like you he was mad at him for not being on a side. I can't believe you didn't see this. I did not now. Yeah. This is news to me. Yeah, but uh that's the that's the rumor of their falling out. So now he's with potentially a better quarterback, you know. People have mixed feelings on that. Um, Jalen Hurt's obviously limited in some ways, so he can throw the ball. I don't think Drake May is at all.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's fair.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, I can't believe you didn't see that. Any thoughts on on that? That seems silly, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh I could totally see Hurt's just pulling something out of his ass that means nothing. And he's like, give me a real answer. And he just couldn't. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03People are saying the rumors are false, but that's what people are saying. So who knows who makes up a story like that? Doesn't even make sense. That's fair, yeah. It's a love triangle, yeah. Love triangle triangle with a side chick. Come on. Can't get your feelings hurt over a side chick, AJ. You should know better than that. But he's married now and in a better spot, hopefully. So and he could talk to Mike Mabel about it. I don't think that's being brought up very often. You think the guys ras him about it? You know, like just locker room talk, boy stuff, like probably a little bit. You would think so, right? Like if he was close with him, or do you think it's like, don't bring it up? Like he's not cool about it.
SPEAKER_02I feel like he's pretty cool about it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah, we talked about that. Uh, shout out Diana Rossini for breaking the story. Had no inside information. Nope. Nope. We talked about this, but uh I think the I think the partners knew about it. Yeah. I stand on that. I think it was just it was messy that it got released publicly, but anyway. Uh so you think fair value for AJ Brown trade uh on both sides.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I kinda I look at it, I kind of agree. I think if I'm the Eagles, I wish I got a 27 pick just because there's that possibility that the Patriots fall off. Yeah. But I'm not too upset about it. And then if something happens in in the next season, like say they're really good this year, and then they that Drake may get hurt, whatever, you still have that opportunity to have a really high pick. Definitely. What were you gonna say? Uh I don't I don't even remember. It's all good. What uh what about the Miles Garrett trade? What did you think about the value for that?
SPEAKER_02Uh I kind of wish the Browns got another first rounder out of it, but I do like Jared Verse a lot. He is a first rounder.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. I I saw people saying he was not happy about it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Wow. I mean, he's going from a contender to uh a top five pick, and just the Browns are toxic.
SPEAKER_03And he's a very different player than Miles Garrett, also. Like he is. 12 sacks in two seasons, but he did have that playoff run where he was awesome. Mm-hmm. Messed up Sam Darnold's day, was pretty good in that Eagles game uh two years ago. So has the experience. He can, I mean, he walks in there in age 26 season. He's kind of already like a veteran in that Brown Sock room just because a lot of that team's so young, especially with Miles Garrett leaving, he's got that playoff experience. So something like that could actually help the team a lot. But that's why I think they didn't get the other first rounder, obviously. What did it end up being? It was him a first and that third, or you said it's something about a second.
SPEAKER_02There's yeah, it's a 27 first, 28 second, and 29 third.
SPEAKER_03Oh, interesting. So they got one every season. Mm-hmm. Yeah. You think they're I think Jared Verse, you counted as a first rounder, so it's like two firsts next year. Because you know he's a good player, right?
SPEAKER_02So still on his rookie contract, too. Exactly. Yeah, he's cheap and he's good and yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh maybe they could have gotten more from him. I'm shocked the the pick the next season wouldn't be a first.
SPEAKER_02The 28. Yeah. Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. But I don't know if the Rams had that. Well, yeah, I don't know. They're saying fuck them picks, so it there's not a whole lot of picks. Yeah, I like that. What is it, the last 10 years? They only have one first round pick on their roster and it's Ty Simpson. Is that even gonna play?
SPEAKER_03So Yeah, it's pretty insane. What was their last first round pick before that? Was it Aaron Donald?
SPEAKER_02He was a first rounder.
SPEAKER_03But one second. It was golf in 2016. Was Aaron Donald the year before that or was he 2014? I thought he was like 2014.
SPEAKER_02I see.
SPEAKER_03This just for the football nerds out there. Little football nerd side story. Uh 14. 14, yeah. I played the college football game a lot. I'm on like my tenth season. Yeah, I've made Delaware Powerhouse and nobody cares. But uh Ivy caught me. I was in the off season. It's my girlfriend. We're she was watching a show or whatever, and I'm playing in the off season at when players leave because there's no like keeping track of players that leave. I take uh pictures of their stats and like their records and everything, and I just had a lot of guys. Leaving like seniors, I had a ton of juniors getting drafted or whatever that I couldn't convince to say. And so I was I just sitting there taking pictures for like, I don't know, probably like an hour or something. She's like, what are you doing? And I'm like, and I tried to explain it to her. I'm like, no, this is like the nerds get it. Like, I just wanna like my my second string running back for like four seasons who is awesome, averaged like 1,500 total yards a year. He's great out of the backfield. It's like he's not gonna break any records, but I want to remember him. You know, putting up 1,600 yards and 22 touchdowns is my number two. Like he's fucking think I want to forget Ray Sean Vilma. That's a guy that doesn't exist. He was a five-star recruit, baby.
SPEAKER_02I wouldn't you should start putting these pictures up on your wall behind you.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, dude. I think about every day I think about just starting one of those like TikToks or reels or both or whatever, where the guys that do the playthrough and narrate and everything. I'm like, I'd have fun doing that. But yeah, the pictures on the wall, like yeah. It's like I'll get little plaques for them. Yeah. I'll never forget your your six touch, 230-yard gate, four touchdown game against like Iowa or whatever. Uh plaques, that's great. Anyway, um, yeah, so I think I think pretty fair value all around. Every team got what they wanted. But uh on the Browns, so I I asked our Browns correspondent, uh great friend of the show, Jacob Burkhardt, to come on. He's he still felt a little raw from the Miles Garrett trade. He said, I'll come on closer to the season, talk Browns. I was like, Oh, that's fine. Uh, I get it. That's that's your guy. You're Browns fan. I I'm sure you like getting Verse back and getting some value, and you're probably not going to win with him just because of the way your team's setup, but it hurts. It's it's like how I felt about Max Crosby getting traded. Now I'm glad he's back, but you know, I was like, eh, it sucks to see a guy go, right? That you didn't get to win with. He goes, this is just covering up for the story of Brown's rookie tight end, 24-year-old Joe Royer, dating an a recent high school graduate, 18-year-old, who is the daughter of his positions coach in college. What? I did not know that story before he texted me. And you can Google it. It is very public. And she's wearing his jersey to games. It's that that dude's weird. And that coach is weirder. Like that's that's a weird family dynamic. And I I'm sorry, but it's not like this guy's 20. It'd still be weird, but 18, bro. And there's some speculation that they were in communications, let's just say, uh, before she turned 18. And so uh yeah. Gross. Yeah, super gross. You can't even do the thing like, oh, you're you're honey, you're gonna marry an NFL player. He's a fifth round pick by the Browns. Like he might be out of the league in a year. Imagine that guy in the locker room, right? Like uh the rookies are doing their little skits or whatever. It's like, how do you like that guy? You're like, you're dating who? Like you're all in the NFL. A lot of dudes are, you know, dating models and child, like, you know, of age adult women. And he's like, here's my girlfriend. Riley. I just went to her graduation.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, later on. Oh, nice. With a major.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Actually, she's going to college next year.
SPEAKER_03Oh, gross, dude. Gross. Like, what dorm is your girlfriend staying in? Like, ugh. Do you remember at was it capstone? No, it was Cola Hall. So me and Will, long story short, we uh lived in the same dorm room in college. Uh you were the floor below me, right? Yeah. Yeah. 14, 15, whatever. And all a bunch of our friends lived in the dorm room across the hall, Cola Hall. But one of the resident managers, the RMs, had a picture, like they all had pictures like describing who they were. And it was like, oh, I date Pharaoh, was it Pharaoh Cooper or Pharaoh Brown, the South Carolina guy that went to the Rams? Remember he was like the kick returner for South Carolina? He was Pharaoh Cooper. And we were all like, okay, like this this young guy in like LA.
SPEAKER_02It's like, you might you might say you're his girlfriend, but I thought you were talking about the girl that was on your floor that was dating the 33-year-old.
SPEAKER_03No. I forgot about that, but no. That was also weird. Oh, college rent. Yeah. Oh, I just looked up Pharaoh Cooper, NFL. He played for longer than I remember. He was playing in 2022. But I I looked him up uh his nickname on Pro Football Reference. You'll never guess.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03The South Carolina Pharaoh. What? Just a descriptor. That's a stupid ass name. But yeah, don't uh don't be an adult in date high schoolers. I don't know what to say. You're not Jerry Seinfeld, you're not gonna get away with it. You know what I mean? Uh the internet's brutal, man. Like nobody talked about that. He's in college, like nobody said a word, no matter how weird it was. He gets the NFL. Now everybody's like, oh, backlash, back. You gotta read all these articles in the online about how you're I almost said in the paper uh online about how you're a creep. Oh gross. Dad's a creep, too, yeah. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02I mean, he probably had some long conversations with his wife, with his daughter, with the player.
SPEAKER_03Not enough.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Not enough conversations. He must have just given up. Yeah. Love will find a way, so Romeo and Juliet.
SPEAKER_03This bitch, yeah. Uh I wish that I wish them the best of luck. Uh anyway. Uh sorry, I had to bring it up. Uh let's move on. When he's out of the league in two years, she'll still be in college. Yeah, literally, dude. Oh my god. He's gonna retire. It's just gonna be like biology 203 is hard or whatever. Um anyway. Could you imagine? Like, we're 28, I guess it it's it would be weirder, but it's still all it's all weird. Uh but dating a fucking 18-year-old girl right now? No. No, no. What do you do? Can't go out and have a drink. You can't. That's true. Yeah. You can't, but too much. You can't talk to them. Like, I wear like my my part-time bartender gig. Like, you talk to all these kids, like, they're fucking dumb, dude.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03They're dumb. It's goddamn phones. Uh more NFL drama. I know. Very sad for your dynasty fantasy team. Ugh. It looks like I was right trading Josh Jacobs to you a couple years ago.
unknownThat trade.
SPEAKER_03I did. That trades like better and better. God that has never been in trouble. Like, no, no stories about him ever. But we gotta talk about it. Uh, unfortunate, he was arrested on domestic violence charges. The neighbors called the cops. We'll listen to the audio.
SPEAKER_02I've not said there's some There's some screaming, there's some fighting. People were throwing things, and yeah. That's all we really know. He's denied all the claims so far. But and she also hasn't said anything yet. Or something is kind of weird, but yeah. I guess kind of wanna you don't want to air your dirty laundry.
SPEAKER_03That's also like you're in a situ I think they have kids together, if I'm not mistaken, or at least one kid. It's one of those situations where do you really want to how many good earning years do you have as NFO player, let alone running back? Do you really want to mess mess up his life? I'm not saying that's right. I'm just saying that's what happens sometimes. Apparently he's practicing with the team while they consider whether or not to file charges. Nothing's happened yet. But we have seen the NFL step in and and uh suspend guys regardless of of uh whatever charges being filed. So I wouldn't be shocked if he got a pretty lengthy suspension, because can't be doing that. It's wrong. It is wrong. Yeah. Me and Will always on the right side of history. Go back and listen to our podcast about Deshaun Watson. I was the only one that said he was gonna suck. It doesn't matter, but yeah. Um yeah, just a weird story. Classic NFL offseason. It always it got a feel for, you know, Packers fans. Obviously, the woman, probably first. I'd sound like a monster right now. Uh, but you just it in every offseason, you know, you're gonna get a few guys snake bit by uh, you know, bad things. So don't don't hit women. That's my that's my advice.
SPEAKER_02I don't want to well, yeah. My uh one of my one of my good friends is a Packers fan, but this came at the end of one of his worst weeks of his life. He uh he got fired from his job. His girlfriend broke up with him via text, and then he got the alert that said uh Josh Jacobs uh is under arrest and yeah, it's not looking good. And oh my god. He just texts and he's like, God damn it, life is bitch slapping me right now.
SPEAKER_03That's terrible. Yeah, no. Obviously, shouts to your friend. We don't have to drop his name on the pod.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But uh yeah, no, hope he turns it around. Yeah, stuff always comes in threes, and uh that's a that's a bad week. Overtaxed. Overtaxed. Yeah, that's just a bad look. How long are they together? Pretty close to two years. That's that's brutal, dude. Yeah. That is brutal. All right. Uh more Packers News, I guess. Uh Micah Parsons, apparently, just I guess more bad Packers news for your friend. Uh also had a meniscus procedure and will miss start a season. So a team that, you know, they they hope to get into that upper echelon of teams. I think we all agree they've been right outside of it the last couple years. Did they go nine and eight last year and squeeze into the playoffs? So yeah. Something like that. They I guess they're they lost a lot of games down the stretch, right? But anyway, uh, he's gonna miss the start of the season and then potentially, allegedly, uh nine, seven, and one because they had that Cowboys tie. That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But uh they keep winning nine games, right? Every season. So they want to take a step up, and you're missing maybe your two best players, you could say. Uh to start the year, that's that's just a tough spot to be in in a really tough division. So yeah. Obviously, feel worse for the woman if that's what happened, but bad for Packers fans as well. Especially with a pretty loaded up uh NFC at this point. So yeah, hope hopefully Michael Parsons will be on the field sooner rather than later. Um more NFC North News, Caleb Williams, the Madden cover athlete. We're talking about this. The Iceman, yeah, the real Iceman. Fuck Drake. Uh, but Will texted me and he goes, uh, Madden curse is coming for Caleb. And uh his girl's uh a Bears fan, so yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That is we'll see. We'll see. Hopefully he can he can outdo it. But yeah, I think he's the first bear ever to be on the Madden cover, and he's also the first number one pick since Vic, I think, is what I saw. So maybe he can turn around the curse.
SPEAKER_03Um there have been some people that have broken it. Like Mahul.
unknownHuh?
SPEAKER_02I didn't even get Madden last year.
SPEAKER_03Um, that's an old article. I looked it up. Hold on. Who is the cover athlete?
SPEAKER_02Oh, it's Saquon. Yeah, shit.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but Brady won the MVP when he was on the cover. Yeah. Uh uh Mahomes went to the Super Bowl. That's when they got blown out by the Bucs. But he still went to the Super Bowl. I mean, it's a pretty good year, all things considered. I think Bears fans would be giddy to lose in the Super Bowl. Um, so there's been some times, but I asked Michael Vick how his career went after he was on the Madden cover. So Yeah. Yeah. Uh pretty shocking Madden cover, but Vince Young had his power stripped. Famously Peyton Hillis. Oh man. Yeah. Yeah. There's some bad ones, but not all bad. So we'll we'll see how it goes. I still have high hopes for the Bears. It's cool that he got the cover, I guess. Um, what else going on here? Got some guys that got paid. Uh, speaking of Drake, I guess, Drake London got a big old contract from the Falcons. Makes a lot of sense. Uh, it could be worth up to 150 million, 100 million guaranteed, four years, 141 million, I guess is the sticker price, but it was that that means like what three years guaranteed. Makes a lot of sense. He's a really good receiver, and if they can find someone that can throw him the ball, which might not be on the roster, unfortunately. Ah, I still got hope for Penix. I don't think he's very good. I'm gonna be honest. He missed a lot of those easy throws. Yeah. And uh apparently the coach is talking up Tua like that's just uh it's a bad situation. Yeah. I heard some positive Tua buzz. I was like, that's a rough spot to be in in GM. Yeah. I know. I was like, I you better hope it's not Tua. Yeah. Like that's the worst case scenario because we know what Tua is.
SPEAKER_02I did I did see a video that was them taking back-to-back snaps uh uh throwing to the receivers, and uh yeah, Penix kind of overthrew the receiver, he still caught it, and then yeah, Tua underthrew the shit out of it. So you can combine them, they're they'll be perfect. Unfortunately, one or the other.
SPEAKER_03No, um, I see, yeah, he's working very hard, fits in really well with our guys, skill sets, what you see from his Miami days, very accurate, fits in real well. Maybe that's just Coach Speak. Then I see an article from eight days ago where he gets brutally honest on Tua's accuracy accuracy. Oh no, he's saying it's an innate god-given ability. Oh no, that's terrible. Oh no, this is bad. This is very bad. We all know what happens when you have two quarterbacks and they're Tua and Michael Pennex. That's ugh. Sorry, Falcons fans. Bijan's gonna be great this year. Draft number number one in fantasy. Um, what else we got here? Uh Nate Herbig got paid from the Steelers. Makes a lot of sense. He got like four years, 100 million. I forget how much is guaranteed. Don't feel like it's that important to check. Um, oh, Russ retired. Got uh got uh got the bag from CBS Sports for broadcasting role. I'm just gonna be the first one to say I think Russ is gonna be an egregiously boring broadcast guy. I could see that. Unfortunately. He's so clean-cut, like made for TV. It makes sense. Cheesy. Yeah. He's just awful, dude.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03Like, I've never liked Russ with the media. Maybe he'll like let it lose. Maybe he'll be one of those guys that goes the other way. And then finally, like, I don't have to be like he had this mindset, like, oh, I'm the leader in the locker room, like I gotta be a certain way, kind of like Jalen Hurts does. Uh, and you know, good for him. I guess kick in the wrong. I don't really watch CBS.
SPEAKER_01I watch C NFL Network uh or ESPN like pregame show, so it doesn't really bother me. But I've never liked the CBS uh broadcast team.
SPEAKER_03Who's CBS typically? Um it they've changed it a lot recently, but like Shannon Sharp used to be on it. I like Shannon Sharp now, but I I just never liked it. Like when we were a kid, I would always watch Fox. And now like they have you know NFL Network, ESPN, whatever. I just always think they're better.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Romo who's kind of falling off.
SPEAKER_03He started great, but he's on the games. Yeah. I'm trying to like who's the C. Oh, you're thinking like oh. I oh, is he gonna be in the booth? I didn't even think about that. No, I don't think so. I thought he was gonna be uh like the pregame. I'd think I'd like Russ even worse in the booth. It's a uh what is a broadcasting role? Well, I'd think it could mean anything. Yeah, it could mean anything. Studio coverage right now it's uh James Brown, Bill Cower, Nate Burlson, and Matt Ryan. Oh, I found I find Matt Ryan pretty boring. Yeah. So what's Russ gonna slide in with them? I like Burleson. He used to be on ESPN, I think.
SPEAKER_02Terry Bradshaw.
SPEAKER_03And no, that is not James Brown, the famed uh singer. The other James Brown. Uh yeah. Yeah, I'm not seeing Russ with the lead game crews, so I imagine they're gonna find a role for him in the studio. Yeah, we'll see. This might be Romo's last shot. Clean up his act. Well, the internet's just been hating on him.
SPEAKER_02He's gotta be able to name the players that are on the fields. He can't just say 91 when it's he's drunk. What do you want him to do?
SPEAKER_03Is he that was I mean, there's a lot of rumors that he's he he's got a drinking issue, but hey, it's it's 1 p.m. on a Sunday. Want me not to be drunk? Because I'm at work? Come on. Football's up. Uh yeah. Gotta put the work in. I mean, I just think his whole superpower was that he knew the game so well because he just retired. He could like know exactly what teams are doing. The league's passed him by at this point. It's gotta have been a decade since he's retired. Dak's been playing for 10 years, right? Yeah. Um, we got a couple more little fun stories, unless you want to talk more about Tony Romo. Odell. Odell, yeah, going back to the Giants. Sharp. I thought he put in his retirement paperwork. I know that doesn't really mean anything, but um, it seems like they're really scared about Malik Neighbor's knee.
SPEAKER_02It looks really bad. I don't know if you've seen any videos from him running, but it it looks like it's gonna take him a lot longer to return from this knee injury. And he's not supposed to be ready yet, though, right? No. But he I mean that I don't know if you saw that celebrity softball clip, but yeah, he is hobbling and he could just be trying to take it really, really easy, but it does not look like he's ready to run yet.
SPEAKER_03I mean, they signed they got Malachi Fields in the draft where people were mixed on in like the third round. They got Darnell Mooney. I think Mooney's good. He's kind of disappeared the last couple years, but he had a really good season in Chicago. Juju. Juju, that's bad at this point. Braxton Barry.
SPEAKER_02Oh Calvin Austin, who can't fucking catch the ball.
SPEAKER_03Like, they have like 12 receivers. Like it's like the quarterback's thing.
SPEAKER_02Like Darius Slayton's still there.
SPEAKER_03Jalen Hyatt's never worked out. So it's like supposed to be this big reunion, but oh, here's my take. Oh, we didn't talk about this. Uh Jackson Dart introducing Trump on the thing. Yeah, that was and then Abdul Carter coming out, and the the guys say they they've quashed it, but like that's it's a bad look. I'm not even making it political. You you know what the feelings of a majority of the locker room are about that situation. Any locker room, probably. I just think it's a bad look. And then people trying to be like, oh, like you're allowed to get political ease, but it's you just don't want that mess, especially with the the market that New York is. Yeah. That's gonna lean left. You you gotta understand that. And Jackson Dard, good old boy, you know, like I'm I'm introducing the president. It's like, dude, with all the shit that's going on with him, it's like we're all pretty confident he's a pedophile, you know, it's pretty bad. Like it's I'm not even it's not political. Every comedy clip I see on reels is like a guy, someone saying that Trump's a pedophile. It's just like we're kinda all there, right? So not a good luck, right? Uh allegedly, if I have to say that.
SPEAKER_02I think Greece is quite Was he thought that it was AI, an AI video? And then he quickly took that down. And yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, it's there's a lot of big personalities on that team.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And here's my take also. A lot of people are just assuming Jackson Dart's good. And I don't know why. He's okay. Like, did did we see he ran really well and effectively? Almost 500 yards, nine touchdowns, and he went to the medical tent every single game. Every game. Yeah. Every single game.
SPEAKER_02His does not avoid hits. He likes to get hit. And they lost. It's not going to keep you in the NFL.
SPEAKER_03They lost. Do we remember this game? Where they lost to the uh Vikings. I want to say nine was starting. The proverbial nine. Did Jackson Dart play this entire game? I remember them losing this. Yeah, Jackson Dart played an entire game against Brian Flores. Meaningless game. Both teams out of the playoffs. Seven of 13 for 33 yards. Yeah. I remember, I mean, we do the the recap every every time. Was that the one where they where um They lost to nine and Brosmer? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Is that the one what? Where um now I think he would have uh shoot, I just have his name. Uh the head the previous head coach pulled him out of the medical tent twice.
SPEAKER_03I don't think I feel like that was earlier in the season. This was the second to the last game, but yeah, so you're gonna be a good one. You're playing for pride, then you're playing for pride and like took five, so he five sacks for 20 yards. Oh, you know, we love these. So he had 18 dropbacks for 13 yards. Yeah, that's against a real NFL defense, a really good defensive coordinator. I don't think Dart's good. He got out dueled by Brosbur and McCarthy. Like that's yeah, like, yeah, he had some good games here and there, right? Like he beat up on a shitty Raiders team. Congrats. I think it'll be he'll be okay if he can actually stay on the field. I don't think he's gonna be a good quarterback. Like, and I I people have just like locked it in because he what? Because he beat the Eagles that one time. Yeah. Like, look at his stats. Like, I'm looking at it, like, there's some good stuff in here. He had that good Denver game, and then Denver came back and won. Threw 45% completion percentage of that game. Like, I don't I don't think he's gonna be very good. Took 35 sacks and takes all these hits, goes to the medical town all the time. He's a small, like relatively small guy for an NFL quarterback. You know. I don't know. I don't know. That's my that's my take there. Might be seeing a lot of James Winston this year. Oh, speaking of quarterback controversies, uh, did you we didn't talk about the JJ McCarthy Kyler Murray thing?
SPEAKER_01Mm-mm.
SPEAKER_03That was pretty funny. I don't know if you want to get into quotes. No, I want to get the quotes. Quotes are good. It's basically like them both being asked the same question, like, oh, what's it like to work with Kyler Murray? What's it like to work with JJ McCarthy? Kyler Murray's like, you know, I'm a veteran, I've been in the league eight years or whatever it was, and like um, you know, I th I think I'm helping him, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And then JJ McCarthy's like, we're both students in the classroom.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's he sits on one side, I sit on the other. And it's a coach's responsibility to teach us and cook us.
SPEAKER_03It was so bad, dude. He's so bitter that Kyler got put there. I mean, to be fair, it was a first round pick two years ago. Like, quarterbacks don't like when they bring in competition. Here's the thing: nine, this isn't a competition.
SPEAKER_01You are the job.
SPEAKER_03You are the backup. Exactly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's you're done.
SPEAKER_02Like, this is the NFL. This type of attitude does not fly. You have too many people watching you.
SPEAKER_03Talking about JJ McCarthy.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Yeah, pulled some of the quotes because it is. Oh man. Well, Kyler said, uh, let's see.
SPEAKER_01I just had it.
SPEAKER_02Now all the ads are popping up. That's killing me. I fucking hate trying to find an article, dude, nowadays. Yeah. It's been, oh, here's Murray's response to it. It's been great, obviously. I know he's a younger guy, so I just any way I can help him, obviously. I know I'm considered the veteran, even though I don't see myself like that. But we're both competitors. I know we both want what's best for the team. And uh, yeah, McCarthy. Uh let's see. I want to give kudos to Kyler. He comes across mature. It sounds like good leadership. It might be coach speak and right thing to say, but there's a reality to that with JJ's answer. I like JJ. I'm rooting for JJ at times, but it feels like it's an act.
SPEAKER_03Uh I think everybody's on to him, right?
SPEAKER_02With the feels like he's trying to divide the locker room. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03What is JJ? I don't know if JJ McCarthy. Let's see if I can't pull this up real quick. It's just two guys in the classroom. He sits on one side, us on the other. It's the coach's responsibility, teachers, and coaches. Uh awkwardness, it's just the same feeling when you're in high school, and there's another person on the other side of the room. That's just how it is. So I wouldn't say there's any awkwardness. Yeah, that's like really bad, dude. And he's got this like, oh, I'm a competitor, I'm a fiery guy. Like, and it's so fake. Like, he does it with like all the other quarterbacks, like all these good quarterbacks are like that, but they're alphas. Yeah. Right? Like a Mahomes and Allen say that, like, they're an alpha. And I'm I'm sorry, but like in your room, like in your quarterback room, Kyler's the alpha. Definitely. There's no question about that. Like, yeah, has his NFL career gone the way he's wanted it to? Like the Cardinals wanted it to? No, but he got a second contract. You'll be lucky to be in the league in three years. That's just honest.
SPEAKER_02Ultra ego, where he pa, yeah, he he paints his war paint on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's when the war paint comes on. It's like I'm ready to die on the field. I'm ready to do anything possible to get that win. Okay. Yeah. Except for throw it to your teammates.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Kyler's a guy with 20,000 pass yards, 3,000 rush yards, 153 total touchdowns. Like that he's a real NFL quarterback. Is he perfect? No. He's a real I don't think JJ McCarthy is. I think he knows that. Mm-hmm. You know? So.
SPEAKER_02I felt like I proved that I was an elite QB last season. I know I'm the future of this organization. He did not say that. No, he didn't. I hope this is real. This is coming from the Minnesota Vikings Reddit page. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03No, he didn't. He did. He recently made headlines saying I feel I got proved I was an elite QB last season. No. Heavens. It's like when a child like thinks they can fly, like, oh no. He fell off the roof. I'm going to read some stats. Yeah. 57% completion percentage, 11 touchdowns, 12 picks, 35th out of 43 qualified quarterbacks in passing grade, and uh QBR among the lowest for quarterbacks with at least 10 starts. I'm seeing some people say, like, uh, despite late season flashes, like, what late season flashes are we talking about? When their defense just destroyed the Lions. He had they beat the Cowboys and he threw for 250, two touchdowns at a pay. I remember that game. They killed the commanders, but the commanders just didn't show up. Do you remember that one? 31-0? Yeah. Mm-hmm. They won four straight games, but then like beat the Giants in that game. He he got hurt, but you know, nine or fourteen, 108 yards and a pick. Not exactly like a stellar performance. He played a Packers team playing nobody. Remember that last game of the season?
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03To go to 9-8. And here are stats against a team that was not trying that started Clayton Toon, who Clayton Toon has some of the worst starts you've ever seen. This is just fun because, you know, football's not here. Uh 15 dropbacks, negative seven yards for Clayton Toon. I feel like that's not the f first time in his career he had negative yards, but Kyler Murray 14 to 23, 182 yards. And Brosmer came in at some point. So like he's just not you got one of the best quarterback coaches as well. Yeah. Just not good. Yeah, Clayton Toon had the the negative seven, and I believe as a rookie against the Browns, yeah. He had the seven sacks. Oh, what is the sack yards? I gotta find this game. It's one of my favorite bad quarterback games ever. Oh yeah, he had 27 dropbacks for 17 yards and two picks. Yeah. Not negative, but anyway. Yeah. Nine. I'm going down a rabbit hole. I just need to get off of this. Yeah, no, it's bad. I can't believe he said he felt like he proved he was the only quarterback. Yeah. There's like there's a line between believing like you're the best player out there and like just being a clown. And JJ McCarthy has like gone so far on the other side of being a clown. You know? Oh, Puka says that rehab helped him out. I did see that. Yeah. Uh he's going to meetings.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03That's good.
SPEAKER_01Can't be biting women. Nah.
SPEAKER_02Without their consent.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, exactly. Hey, my guy. I think that's a good spot to end the podcast. I don't think there's anything else to talk about. No. We got through all the news. Yeah. And don't bite women without their consent. Certainly don't. Punch and or choke them.
SPEAKER_02Or throw stuff.
SPEAKER_03Or throw stuff. Even if they throw stuff at you. I know you wanna. No. That's not funny. That's very serious. That's very serious. Oh God. Well, if you're here, you'll you'll love us and we love you. So that's good to do it. Uh we'll be back when more news pops up. Um, I mean, we're we're getting there. Like post 4th of July, you know? Gotta start putting together our our season previews. Maybe we'll do something fun this year. We gotta cook up something. Maybe we'll do maybe we'll do like uh it was kind of the original concept of the show. I would love to go back to it, but maybe we'll do like 20 minutes every team. Okay. And we can do that, like get the boys on. Yeah, exactly. Get everyone on for their teams when that works for them. Um, bring on like Ron for the Raiders, maybe we can get Barry for the Jets, that kind of thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You got friends that are fans of these teams. I think I can find like a Cowboys fan down here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, that'll be fun. And then we can record like four at a time or something.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Yeah, do division by division.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, maybe that'll be what we do for the next couple months while we wait for the gambling stuff to come down the pipeline.
SPEAKER_01So Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Oh, I have a guy I play basketball with, he's older, but he uh he puts a thousand dollars on each over-under. So yeah. Obviously got some bread, but Okay. Yeah, he's uh Does he win? I think he did well last year. Okay Yeah, he was talking he was already talking to me about it. So love that. Maybe we'll get him on the over-under stuff. But yeah, I mean that'll be the podcast for the foreseeable future, and then you know what, we'll be sitting back in these chairs. I guess you'll be in a new place, but we'll be sitting back in these chairs and chair. Yeah, same chair. It'll be the season and no time, man. No, it was it was so funny. Last thing, uh, when uh we were doing the dynasty stuff, and I was calling you, talking about like traits, and we were doing our rookie draft for anyone out there listening. Um, and I Ivy got home and I was like walking the dog, and I gave her the dog, and I was on the phone with you, and she's like, Well, who are you on the phone with? I was like, Oh, it's Will, like we're talking about football, uh the fantasy football. And she's like, It's not back yet. She just no, no, no, no, no, no. She looked like she had PTSD, dude. She like face went white. I know. Every Sunday, it's like we gotta do stuff now because she knows she knows the season's coming. But uh, it's it's a good time. But uh anyway, yeah, that's the show. Uh know yourself, believe in yourself, but uh maybe not as much as J.J. McCarthy believes in himself. I like that. Women of age consenting and don't hit them. Let's go. That's the lesson. I'm getting off before I say anything I regret. Uh, from the Cold Smiths at the lacksmith from Slick Willie Will I felt the what it's been in podcast if you want to make podcasts of special.
SPEAKER_01Peace.
SPEAKER_03Peace.
