Mathematical Myths with Professor Alf Coles and Professor Nathalie Sinclair

Toria Bono Season 5 Episode 10

In this episode, Toria talks all about maths and the myths that surround this subject with Professor Alf Coles and Professor Nathalie Sinclair. Together they  wrote the book 'I can't do maths' and it is based on one core belief: maths doesn't have to be scary! Over the course of the episode, they talk about many of the dogmas that surround the subject. From 'maths is always right or wrong' to 'maths is for some people not others', They explain why these common dogmas inhibit learners and contribute to the maths anxiety that many children and even teachers face.

Dr Nathalie Sinclair is a professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. She holds the Canada Research Chair in Tangible Mathematics Learning at Simon Fraser and was previously a middle school teacher of mathematics and French.
