Bonner County Daily Bee

In this episode of the 7Bee Podcast, sports editor Dylan Greene sits down with Mel Dick, a past president of the Sandpoint Rotary Club, to discuss his recent cycling trip across the U.S. Mel traveled from Sandpoint, Idaho, all the way to Key West, Florida, and along the way got a taste of the sights and sounds of rural America. He visited some memorable places and stumbled across plenty of people who left an impact on him and rejuvenated his American spirit.  He shares those experiences on the podcast and details how the 5,000 mile trip didn't quite go as planned. The pandemic, forest fires and hurricanes were all obstacles he encountered along the way, but he never gave up mainly due to two reasons — the youth services he was riding for and the kind, caring people he met on the ride. Through his ride, Mel raised about $14,000 for youth programs in the community. At the end, Mel also discusses the return of the CHAFE 150 this year after the event was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
