Sophia Noreen:

Hello everyone. My name is Sophia Noreen and I'm here with Laura and this is our very first episode of Boss It podcast.

Laura:

So excited. Yay are so glad you're here. Yay.

Sophia Noreen:

We first would like to thank you guys for joining us on this journey. And we're here to join you on your journey of entrepreneurship and all things business.

Laura:

We're here to provide you with practical tips so that you can plan and execute in your business. Whether you have a business idea that you're want to run with, or you're already rocking a new startup, we're here to offer practical and strategic gems of wisdom and insight to get you on your right path. Exactly. So I think Noreen let's go. Let's hear about you.

Sophia Noreen:

Okay. So guys fun fact, I have two names. My first name is Sophia. Noreen's my middle name. You can call me Sophia. You can call me Noreen. Laura calls me Noreen and then I also have the business called Also Sophia. So many people actually call me Sophia.

Laura:

She's complicated

Sophia Noreen:

I'm complicated. Thank you. Yes, but aren't we all complicated. We all are. And another fun fact about me actually is that I always need my 2:00 PM coffee. And if I don't have it. Then you'll figure it really

Laura:

gets really grouchy.

Sophia Noreen:

I don't think that she,

Laura:

no, she gets sleepy. She falls. I do,

Sophia Noreen:

I can fall asleep, but yes, right now I'm so excited to have you guys here, I won't fall asleep, don't worry.

Laura:

Let's give her her 2:00 PM coffee and she's good to go.

Sophia Noreen:

There you go. What else can I tell you guys? I'm a mom of two girls and I'm actually a registered physiotherapists in Canada. And I worked as a physiotherapist for 10 years and then went into management at a local hospital. I still are part time and I still run a brand new product based business that launched into a very big retailer this past season. Laura, what about you? Tell me a little about you.

Laura:

Hi guys. I'm Laura. I'm a mom of three boys. Yes. I said it three boys. Every time I get the, Oh wow. You must be busy and yep. I'm busy. While Noreen digs her caffeine at two o'clock, I'm a more of a, well, I'm not a coffee drinker, I'm a tea drinker. I love my tea. I've got an extensive herbal tea collection and, I have known to enjoy wine as well. I'm a charter professional accountant. I've worked both in public and private practice and a couple of years ago, I decided to follow my passion and start my own business. I am now a professional photographer and I serve hundreds of clients each year, from a variety of different streams. I have wedding family, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Sophia Noreen:

There you go guys. So she's all service and I'm all product and we're going to help you guys navigate this crazy, crazy world of entrepreneurship together. Laura being the financial professional is going to jump on here as much as she likes to tell you about everything to do with money and business, because that is a place where I feel many of us entrepreneurs don't have enough knowledge. We're not very good at tracking our numbers. We don't have systems to do that and so we're here, really like Laura, why did we start this? Why did we start Boss It Why are we doing this? Like, who is this for?

Laura:

Well, I think before we get into like how we, I mean really we're business BFFs too right? So I think like let's tell them how we met and how we got to that sort of, business thing.

Sophia Noreen:

100%. Cause that will lead us right into why we are doing this, right. So you lead it. How do we meet?

Laura:

Noreen and I met, I'm going to throw out the number Noreen, wait for it. 30 years ago.

Sophia Noreen:

She's aging me

Laura:

In grade one, we actually moved onto the same street and we started in the same school and we became best friends ever since it's been a long journey of 30 years. We've had some like ups and downs, but I'd say we're pretty even keel. We're mostly just ups. And like, I'd say, even in the last 10 years, we talk at least five times a week if not more.

Sophia Noreen:

Which has been amazing both of us being on this journey of entrepreneurship, we are literally business BFFs. For my product based business, she's a huge asset, because she's been taking care of a lot of things, product space, photo photography, she's been doing the books, the financial for the company. And, I don't know if I've been helping you a heck of a lot actually in your service based business.

Laura:

I think that is beauty of having, a best friend in sort of coaching ourselves through this journey I think there's so many things that are more than just the actual to do list, right? Like we've kind of in each other support and inspiration and coaches and, you know, aka therapists along the way. Encouraging each other to get going, because as we both know, like starting a business is hard and it can be so lonely, when you're steering the ship by yourself Not everybody starts out with a big team and not everybody has, the family support or friend support. That's why we kind of wanted to bring Boss It podcast to you because, I mean, who doesn't want a business BFF? that all of that just leads us to why we're here and why we called this Boss It because over the last 30 years, don't only do we have a friendship, but we sort of also had this kind of co mentorship with each other. Having someone to bounce the ideas off of, and the decision making makes it so much easier and richer because being an entrepreneur, especially if you're in a service based business or a startup, it can be lonely because you don't have the team. You don't have a big group of people, not always around your, beside you. Having Sophia Noreen around really made a huge difference, in that whole establishing that journey.

Sophia Noreen:

Yeah, definitely. And same, I would not have been able to do many of the things without Laura by my side, because it was a big struggle actually to move out of my full time. Job and professional career. I was already moving up into a different area of the hospital. So it was a challenge. But knowing that she was there to basically walk me through the first year. She had already gone ahead of me and said, you know what? Taking this scary leap on jumping off into the unknown, she'll talk more about it, she really wanted to do her photography and rightfully so. Why not? You know, we all have to give it a shot. As women, we tend to put our families first, which is great. But we also have to remember that if we can do both, if you can own it and do both, so Boss It and do both, then why not? Right. And we want you ladies to be able to do that as well. But it's hard and you need a community and you need support. We really, we understand the journey. We understand how difficult it is and truthfully, we can listen and be inspired by those who have done this before, and that are 10 years or 20 years ahead of us. Because we are so in the nitty gritty of a startup phase, just like you guys would be or could be we know the journey, we know where you are right now. We know the tools and we have been there. So we want to guide you through this podcast and through any resources that we provide, and we'll always link it in the show notes and we'll have a link to the website. So you guys can grab these resources because there's no purpose for us to keep all this information to ourselves. Like if I've gone through all the nitty gritty to do the big box retailers, then why not share that with everyone else? Right. Laura?

Laura:

Oh, exactly. There's so many tips and tricks that we picked up along the way. And why not just bring it out into this amazing new community, which is Boss It and share it all with you? So stay tuned for some upcoming episodes. We're going to talk about our journeys in greater depth. We're also going to have some amazing resourceful guests coming on to help us with different topic.

Sophia Noreen:

All right guys. I think that's all for now. Right? Laura, we'll keep it short and sweet for a first episode and the next few episodes, you'll learn a little bit more about Laura. You learn a little bit more about me and then we're going to get right into it. We're going to talk about your fears, your mindsets.

Laura:

To talk a little bit of marketing, some finance. We've got lots coming at ya.

noreen :

Our plan is for this podcast, we're going to interview with an entrepreneur or you'll have myself or Laura come on and share our expertise with you. We will be mentoring people on the podcast as well.

Laura:

And you know, I think that we want to throw a lot of inspiration your way too. Cause yeah as an entrepreneur, you need some inspiration to keep going.

noreen :

Yes, you need inspiration. You need examples.

Laura:

So yeah, stay tuned. We can't wait to have you come along this journey with us we're excited.
