Phone rings twice

REDGE’S VOICEMAIL: Hello friend, you have reached Mr. Redge’s hotline. What are you curious about today?

REDGE: Shall we begin? Our first question is from Emmanuelle.

EMMANUELLE: Hi, my name is Emmanuelle and I’m 6. Jonathan, do you ever need help from your friends? And Mr. Redge why are you happy after all of the stories?

JONATHAN: She’s got a question for each of us, Redge. I’ll go first: Emmanuelle wants to know if I ever need help from my friends. Absolutely, Emmanuelle! I lean on my friends and family all the time, especially when I’m feeling down. They know just how to cheer me up, whether it’s with a laugh, a big ol’ bear hug, or just being there to listen.

Now it’s your turn, Redge. Emmanuelle wants to know why you’re always so happy at the end of every story.

REDGE: Oooh, great question! I’m happy because every story Jonathan tells is a new adventure! Some are silly and fun, others are so inspirational, and sometimes, I even get to be the storyteller! Each story teaches me something new about being a better hedgehog. Thank you, Emmanuelle! How about we celebrate with a quick happy dance for stories right now?

(Redge improvs a dance)

JONATHAN: Our next question comes from Kirin for you, Redge, and it’s also about stories. Let’s listen…

KIRIN: Hello Reginald, my name is Kirin. I’m 6 years old. My question is: What is the most important story Jonathan told you. Thank you Redge (pauses) and Jonathan!

REDGE: Wow, Kirin, what a thoughtful question! The most important story Jonathan has told me changes all the time. So, what’s the most important one today? Hmmm, let me ponder that. Think, think, think, think, think, aha! Today, I’d say it’s Episode 26, The Great Acorn Incident. I was very worried and called Jonathan in the middle of the night. He told me the story of Henny Penny and it really helped me to understand my big worries and how to handle them. After that, I slept like a baby hoglet.

JONATHAN: Mischa, age 8, had her grownup text us, “You are amazing, and the hedgehog is really funny. I hope your episodes will go on for decades.”

REDGE: She thinks I’m funny! Did you hear that Jonathan? She thinks IM funny! I do LOVE making people laugh.

JONATHAN: You always make me laugh, Redge! Mischa, you’re amazing too! It makes us so happy to know you’re enjoying our stories. And as for making episodes for decades? That would be a dream come true! We’ll do our best to make it happen.

Redge, Josephine wants to know, “Why does Reginald T. Hedgehog have a T. in his name and what does it stand for?”

REDGE: Excellent question, Josephine! My middle name is… Tiberius.

JONATHAN: NO WAY!

REDGE: Yes, WAY!

JONATHAN: Redge, did you know that your favorite Star Trek Captain, James T. Kirk, also has Tiberius as his middle name?

REDGE: NO WAY! Beam me up, Scotty!

JONATHAN: The Listening Flower from Australia is curious about how you could have windows in your underground burrow, Redge. Wouldn’t they just face dirt?

REDGE: Great observation, Listening Flower! You’re right—most hedgehogs live in burrows underground. But I’m not your average hedgehog, and I live in the magical realm of Once Upon a Time, where anything is possible. I built a cozy little hovel in a Folktale Forest tree, so I’ve got windows and a lovely door with a view.

JONATHAN: It’s a bit like the cozy homes in the Shire where the Hobbits live!

REDGE: Really? How Middle-earth of me! And for all of our curious listeners, you can see my home in an illustration for our Season 2 episode, Jolly Holly Hedgehog. I’ll share a link in the show notes, or with your grownups permission, you can email me at Dorktalesstorytime@gmail.com and I’ll send you the picture.

JONATHAN: Hey Sadles! We see you and are so happy you’re listening. We love having you as a part of our Dorktales community.

REDGE: You are the awesomest!

JONATHAN: As for your question about whether Redge has any younger siblings, Redge has a lot of family throughout Once Upon a Time (you may remember his city cousin Rodge, who has visited the Folktale Forest a few times). We hope you get to meet more of Redge’s family in future episodes so be sure to stay tuned!

REDGE: I spy a listener who uses a number as their identity on Spotify, beginning with the numbers 1261. YOU are a true Hedge Knight in training, my friend, standing up for your friends, helping others, and being kind. You’re ready to take the Hedge Pledge! Huzzah!

JONATHAN: Let’s finish up with some shoutouts. Some of you emailed us, some left comments in Apple Podcast reviews, and some are Spotify account names. Ready to help me out, Redge?
