Welcome to Season 3 of Iconic Seasons.
This year, we shift from college hardwood to the NBA stage, diving deep into two of the youngest teams ever to shake the league: the 1977 Portland Trail Blazers and the 2024 Oklahoma City Thunder.
In this season trailer, we look ahead to a story of belief, chemistry, and basketball beyond expectations. Everyone talked about how young this year’s Thunder team was — but no one told us how they really did it. And back in ‘77, Portland stunned the world in their very first playoff run, building a culture that still echoes today.
Our first full episode, “The Young and the Fearless,” premieres soon — a deep dive into how the 1977 Blazers built something unforgettable.

They told us this was one of the youngest teams ever to win it all. But no one told us how they did it. I, I was watching the finals this year. I. And I was blown away by how many times they mentioned the 1977 Portland Trailblazers when comparing them to this year's Oklahoma City Thunder. They were even younger than the Thunder team this year, who seemed impossibly young and seemed like they've got a whole of their careers ahead of them, like they could be a dynasty.
But that 1977 team shocked the basketball world. They were built on youth. Chemistry and a belief that they belong. And along the way, what we're gonna do in our new season of iconic seasons is we're gonna connect the dots to today's youngest contenders, Oklahoma City Thunder. I.
Hello and welcome. I'm so glad you're here. Whether it's your first time tuning in or you've been with us since the beginning, today's episode's a little different. This is our season trailer. A chance to look back, look ahead and set the stage for what I believe will be our most exciting season yet I.
In season one, of course, we revisited 1987, the Hoosiers, the NCAA title, the shot, the season, packed with grit, heart, and all those unforgettable moments. Then season two, we did it a little different. It took us back to 1979, the year that Magic and Larry Bird ignited the college basketball world on the biggest stage.
Just set the rivalry that changed basketball forever. Together we've explored the players, the teams, and the stories that became part of basketball's. DNA made these seasons iconic. And now for season three, we're shifting to the NBA. This time we're focusing on two of the youngest teams in League history teams that didn't just surprise people, they redefined what was possible.
We're going back to 1977, the Trailblazer Squad that averaged just 24.2 years. Amazing. It's a team that went from a losing record at the All Star break to winning it all in their very first playoff appearance. And we're pairing it with this year's Oklahoma City Thunder team, A team that is just slightly older, but still incredible.
That idea is what sparked this season, because while the finals told us about their youth this year, no one told us the stories, and that's what we're here to do.
Our first episode is gonna be the Young and the Fearless, how the 1977 Trailblazers set the standard. We'll break down how the team came together, what made them click, and why they still matter today. I.
And I want you to be part of this journey. As you listen, I hope you sh as you listen, I hope you'll share your thoughts. Let me know what resonates, what surprises you or what players and moments you want to hear more about. I. You can reach us all as always at hardwood history@gmail.com or just text us.
There's always a link in the description of each episode.
Make sure you follow us on your favorite podcast platform so you don't miss an episode. And if you'd enjoyed the journey so far, leave us a review or tell a friend who loves the game just as much as you do about the show.
I can't wait to dig into these iconic seasons with you to celebrate what's possible when young teams play without fear and when belief beats the odds. Thanks for being here, and we'll see you in episode one.
