Hey guys and welcome back to another episode of your Brains Coach podcast. My name is Angela Shurina, I'm your host, I'm your Brains Coach and it is my job here to bring to you all the best recent, interesting, cutting-edge, most important, often very applicable to your life and the next level on your journey very applicable to your life and the next level on your journey brain-body tools so you could take better control of your thoughts, of your emotions and, most importantly, of your actions, so you could shape the life experience that you truly love living. You know one thought that was going through my mind recently it's about not what you have in life, not what we have in life that makes us somehow happy, fulfilled and just feeling successful. It's not a certain thing or a certain amount of money or a certain lifestyle or relationships or health. It's about what makes you feel the most alive and fulfilled right now, and that's going to change and it's going to be different at different times in your life and it's very different to every single human being.
Speaker 1I was reflecting some time ago, not that long. I was reflecting on my life's journey and thinking when did I feel the most alive, fulfilled, like I was just happy to live my life every day. It's not when I had the most money, it's not when I had the most recognition, when things were the easiest, it's none of that. It was nothing really specific, but what made me feel that way is doing the work that I absolutely love, feeling like my life is of service, matters and means something. And that feeling I actually had two times in my life. I have it right now and I had it when I was at the beginning of my coaching journey, when I just got into fitness coaching and I would feel like I would be lost in my days, like it didn't matter what was in the past, what was in the future. I was alive every single moment of my day. I was just happy being there. And then, in the present moment, and for the past I guess decade I somehow lost it. And then I was chasing that feeling and trying to experiment with different things to figure out like how can I get better to that feeling? And now I think I finally got it back feeling. And now I think I finally got it back.
Speaker 1Every day I wake up and I feel like I'm living the life that I absolutely love and the rest just doesn't matter. I love my work, I love my clients to pieces. I love the struggles, I love the content creation on Sunday mornings, like I just love how the life is unfolding and that is like better than any drug out there even though I haven't tried many, but I cannot imagine that anything can feel better than it is right now. So I wish you to find that feeling and never stop until you do so. That's the prelude to our main content of today, which is not going to be long, but it's going to be very useful to help you to get to that feeling of aliveness and presence and fulfillment every day and also will help you to progress, to grow to where you feel you need to be growing into, like your next level.
Speaker 1If you feel a little bit itchy, that you are in your old skin, so to speak, and it's time to remove that and create a new version of you, the next level version of you, then listen up. I'm going to give you the most important tool you need to apply more and more often in order to keep growing into your new skin. And over the course of past few days, I was talking to a friend and we talked about how, actually, if you want to grow the fastest and never want to stop growing. You are never going to be done. Going through the process, leaving behind your old skin and growing a new one, you're always going to be on this edge of discomfort, leaving the familiar, leaving the comfort, and then being unsure where exactly you're going to be going and where are you going to end up. But feeling that, yeah, you are on a journey, you are growing that new skin, you are building that next level version of you. So the process is never going to stop.
Speaker 1And I guess the message from this piece of the podcast is that get comfortable with being uncomfortable. It is normal to feel that way and actually feeling like you are done. It's a feeling of being dead, and Tony Robbins always talks about that. In life, you're either growing or dying. You know, tony Robbins always talks about that. In life, you're either growing or dying. So if you're feeling that you are done, you're probably I don't know dead. That's what makes me feel. But feeling that discomfort, that anxiety, almost that you're not going where you're supposed to go, or you're not growing, or maybe you don't know where you are, that's actually a normal thing in life. So let's first normalize that, that feeling somehow just at peace like some bodice monk. That's not what life is about. Well, unless maybe you are a bodice monk I've never been one, so I don't know but it seems that the people who feel the most fulfillment in their life get comfortable with that feeling of mild discomfort and anxiety and all this feeling like they are not done yet and they have a lot more to give, to grow into, to contribute, to create. So get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Speaker 1And let's dive in to the purpose of today's podcast. What skill do you need to train in order to keep growing? The most important skill, the meta skill of growth. At least, that's what I believe right now, after listening to reading about a lot of self-talk that people who build themselves from zero to hero have. This is the meta skill of self-growth, self-development and getting to the next level and leaving as soon as possible the comfort zone, the old you, behind. So what's the skill? Well, let me go back a little bit.
Speaker 1Have you ever been in a situation where you motivated yourself to do the dumbest thing ever, like you're staying up late on Saturday and all of a sudden you're feeling like getting some specific ice cream that you can get in a specific shop and this is the only thing that you want right now and for whichever reason it feels right. In the middle of the night, you get dressed and you go and get to the shop, even though it takes you 20 minutes to walk there. And you get dressed and you go and get to the shop, even though it takes you 20 minutes to walk there. And you get there and you get it and you feel like, oh, you know, that's amazing. You motivate yourself to do all this uncomfortable, dangerous thing for the dumbest thing ever that ice cream flavor. Guess what guys? You can also motivate yourself to do the hardest, the smartest thing when you learn how to push your own buttons.
Speaker 1I have this phrase that I love using with my clients learning to push your own buttons. It comes from, I guess, my family experience. It's like you know, you are spending time with your parents especially it was, in the past, a lot of that. You are spending time with your parents especially it was in the past, a lot of that or with your older sister, and they know exactly what to say to put you in this state of discomfort. And as an adult, I learned that if you know how to push the right buttons yourself to generate the right kind of emotions. You can make yourself do anything, not just getting that you know silly ice cream flavor that, for whichever reason, feels like the most important thing in the world at that moment, but also do make yourself do the smartest, the hardest thing you're capable of. You can make yourself, motivate yourself to do that as well.
Speaker 1A few really good questions to ponder upon this weekend what makes you tick? What are your main drivers? What lights a fire under you? And then the most important question how do you connect that like what makes you tick? What drives you? How do you connect that like what makes you tick? What drives you? How do you connect that with what you need to do in the moment to go to where you need to go to create the life you absolutely love living. And this, my friends, is the meta skill of success being able to do that. Connecting what you need to do right now, that uncomfortable thing, the thing that you don't want to do, that Connecting what you need to do right now, that uncomfortable thing, the thing that you don't want to do, the hard thing, to what matters the most to you. And once you do make this connection, you're going to be able to push that button and get yourself going.
Speaker 1Success is hard, guys. It's really hard. It's not supposed to be easy and there is no shortcut there. So if you're looking for easy money, an easy career path or a fast track to the greatest life you ever can imagine, there is no such thing. The earlier you can understand this, the faster you can start working on the right things that actually going to bring you the things that you want, right. So success is hard. It's supposed to be hard. There's no easy way to mastery. So, whether it's life, health, business transformation, relationship transformation, it's never going to be easy. So give up this idea and start working. I always you know this is the biggest lesson that I learned as an adult Stop looking for shortcuts and start doing the work. And then so if it's hard and you know it's going to be hard so what's your game plan for when it gets hard, when it gets tough? When it gets hard, when it gets tough, how will you motivate yourself when everything in your brain is screaming for the easy way out? Do you know what motivates, what drives you, what makes you? Tick Back to those questions Again, as I listen to more people who made themselves to great successes from scratch.
Speaker 1As I listen to their inner dialogue, their inner game, one thing I hear over and over and over and over and over again I hear that same story. Everyone feels the heart. Even the most successful people in the world, even the most successful people in the world, like whoever you admire guys, they all feel the heart and their brains also try to make them take the easy route. That's how our brain is wired to save energy and to keep you alive. And so this battle to wanting to take it easy and then knowing that the way to your dreams, to your goals, is the hard one, that battle you have to win it over and over and, over and over again, and it never stops for anyone.
Speaker 1Just the most successful people learned how to win it over and over and over and over again. So how do they do it? What makes them different? Well, people like Elon Musk, or the greatest rugby captain player in South Africa, currently Sierra Colisi or even the mom who lifts the car to save her child, they all exercise the same skill set that most successful people learn how to do on demand, over and over and over and over again, for whatever needs to get done. So the skill set is they know what they want most and which actions will take them. There they feel the urge to quit and they have a way of reminding themselves what truly matters, what truly matters to them.
Speaker 1Guys, we're not talking about what truly matters in life for the whole humanity, but what matters the most for you at this moment in your life Long-term thinking, the game changer. So that's what I also wrote about this meta skill, the long-term thinking and doing. I wrote it in the article that just came out in Bold Journey magazine. That is linked in the show notes, so check it out, guys. So I wrote there about long-term thinking and doing and this meta skill of success, as they call it Successful people, what separates them from the ones who just never achieve what they want?
Speaker 1The successful people learn and practice how to do the thing, how to remind themselves at the hardest, toughest moment that this is what truly matters to me long-term, and this is why I'm not choosing the easy way, but the hard way, and there is no one else pushing me towards that but myself, and you have to do it consistently, over and over and over and over again, and the only other I don't know person or entity who knows where you need to push yourself is your own soul, something in you guys, this voice inside knows what you need to do next and it's not going to bullshit yourself. And I believe that a lot of people engage in all kinds of self-destructive behaviors because they want to numb this voice that's nagging them. Hey, here's a step you need to take to grow, take it and to stop hearing this nagging voice. I believe that's where a lot of people either overwork themselves, don't sleep or drink too much or do too much I don't know social media, get into all kinds of live drama, just to not hear that voice that asks them to do the biggest leap, the biggest jump, to trust the universe that this is your way, this is your path and it's all gonna work out. So that's me getting philosophical.
Speaker 1If you want to read more about other what I believe traits, the meta skills of success, are that I learned on my journey that I believe also contributed to me never stopping and just going and growing. And now a lot of my friends asking me like how did I end up being here, right? So what contributed to my never-ending growth and what I'm going to be using, to never stop growing and until or I guess, until I die, but getting the results that I want and going beyond what even I can imagine these meta skills, this inner game. I wrote more about this in the article in Bull Journey magazine, so check it out. You might pick up a few ideas to help yourself to keep growing into the next level of you training the right mindset, skills, the operating system of your life, getting the upgrade. So check out the article.
Speaker 1But for now, just remember the number one skill meta skill that I believe is the most important one actually is that ability for you to think about the future, think about the long-term, think about what you want to create in your life, thinking about that very often and making the choice based on that, not based on the comfort that you want to have now and again. It's very natural for your brain to want an easy way out to save energy. That would kept us alive as species. But guess what? You can override that. You are the creator, you have the power and if you're not using it, you're not actually using your own brain to its fullest capacity. There are self-preservance mechanisms in your brain to keep you safe, to keep you comfortable, to keep you alive. But in our life today, keeping yourself safe and fed and comfortable aren't actually the challenges that we need to embrace, that we need to endure. The challenges are to create the future, a better one for yourself, for people you love and for the whole humanity. So the challenge is to override that safety setting and get into the uncomfortable zone, spend there most of your time and create the impact, the legacy that you desire, the life that you want to live, and also take care of people you care about.
Speaker 1That's it for today, guys. I hope you found this useful. Check out the article where I write more about the long-term thinking, with examples, with backstory from my Siberian upbringing. Check out the article and ponder upon these questions today what makes you tick, what are your main drivers? What lights a fire under you, and how can you connect that to what you need to get done, that to what you need to get done to get going towards the life you absolutely love living every single day. Thank you, guys. Please do share this podcast with at least one other person who might want to listen to it and might be the exact thing they need to hear to get going to their next level.
