Hey guys, and welcome back to another episode of your Brain's Coach podcast. My name is Angela Sharina, I'm your host, I'm your Brain's Coach and it is my job here to bring to you, share with you, learn with you all the best well research, the most exciting, applicable and effective brain-body tools so you could take better control of your thoughts, of your emotions and, most importantly, of the actions that you take every day. So you get out there and create the life experience and impact and legacy and results and things and enjoyment that make you feel fulfilled. That's what we all hear about self-leadership, basically, and self-leadership does depend a lot on a well-working, well-trained I would say brain. And anything you want to do, all the actions that you need to take, all the results that you want to get, they all start with motivation. And motivation, guys, sometimes I hear this and I talked on this podcast about this a lot. Sometimes you hear like motivation doesn't last or it doesn't matter, but motivation, the translation of it, the origin of it, is something that gets you moving, it's the spark that makes you take action and without that spark there is nothing. Even discipline starts with motivation, with a reason for you to act. Without motivation, there is no motion, no motive, no reason to move. In fact, when somebody really doesn't have the ability to create motivation in their brain, like in some diseases Parkinson's is one of those, and there is a bunch here, even depression it's the lack of molecule of motivation, which is dopamine. Without motivation, you're not even human. So motivation it's actually very important to learn how to self-motivate yourself and how to maintain the right kind of motivation and how to ignite it for the hard things that your brain, by default, doesn't want you to do. Motivation it's super important to master it if you were to achieve any goal. That requires hard effort Achieving big goals in 2025.

I asked Chad GPT a couple of days ago for the best strategies to achieve goals in 2024. I'm like till this day, what are some best strategies? I'm a coach. I help people to achieve results, to make progress, to move beyond a point where they are today. And I'm always interested in like what's the latest, what's the research, what are the best tools, what are the best strategies? And so I asked Chad GPT so how do we achieve big, challenging goals in 2024 based on all the science, research and best practices? 2024, based on all the science, research and best practices and Chet Gpt gave me quite a few ideas and I'm more or less familiar with all of them, and one of them was smart goals and smart goal-setting strategy, and it is useful and I'm going to share with you how and when it is useful.

Speaker 1

But it's not really that human Smart goals specific, measurable, achievable, relatable, what it is for our I always forget this word and timed right. So we have a time frame Smart goals. It's basically a bunch of numbers. Time frame Smart goals it's basically a bunch of numbers and I don't know about you, but numbers, just mere numbers, never motivated me. It might seem like, oh, I'm motivated to make one million dollar consultancy happen, but that's not the number that motivates me. It's the lifestyle. It's the things I can give to people I care about my family, my sister, my nephews, my friends, people who I can support. It's a lot of fun stuff that I want to learn how to do, like flying airplanes or going into space. It's legacy, it's impact, it's making the world a better place because I'm here. It's all of that and that's what motivates me, not the number.

Speaker 1

I worked a lot and still help people with getting into the best shape of their life, whether that's losing fat and getting a six-pack abs, or getting super strong and fit and on fire, feeling vibrant and confident every single day. So I do all of that and it might seem like getting to a certain body fat percentage that can work a lot with guys. They're like I want to be beyond 10 or below whatever that number is, and very soon they realize, when things get hard, they realize, like you know, that number doesn't actually motivate me, like it means nothing to me. I thought I wanted that but actually I didn't want it that much so I would work that hard. And then we have to dig deeper into their reasons for why that number was important for them. What does it represent? What does losing certain amount of weight, getting into certain body shape, getting to certain fitness levels, getting certain amount of income in your bank account? What does it represent? Why does it matter to you?

Speaker 1

You see, chat GPT will not relate to that because for chat GPT any number is equally important or unimportant. Chat GPT doesn't have a life experience, cannot relate to the human condition, to human struggles, cannot relate to the human condition, to human struggles. And that's why for CHAT-GPT, smart goal setting is just as good as any other good strategy, but it's not entirely human. Humans, human heart and will. They're not motivated, they're not driven by pure numbers, they're driven something different in life.

Speaker 1

And so if you've been failing on a certain goal like weight loss, ask yourself have you ever asked yourself why is this number important? What does it represent? What pain does it cause you? What does it allow you to do? And during this questioning, you might even find out that there are other things that are important and you feel like you got to get to them, like maybe you're getting in relationships or again certain career or certain confidence. Maybe you feel that the weight is what holds you back, but you might find out that actually there is something else that holds you back. And hey, I'm all for fitness and health goals, I love working on them, but that's not because the number represents who. I am right Anyhow. So Chet GPT gave me this list of strategies, and smart goal setting and achieving was one of them. And then again I realized it's not entirely human and Chet Chibiti cannot relate to that. Metrics make poor destinations. Smart goals are fine, but they should also be inspiring enough to motivate the elephant, your emotional brain. Same goes for financial goals Return on equity or gross margin Targets won't inspire many people.

Speaker 1

This is a quote from the book Switch how to Change when Change is Hard. Highly recommend picking it up. There is another one coming from the same authors Reset, I believe on January 6th, from Dan and Chip Heath. Amazing guys write so well about the science and practice of change change of behavior, transforming cultures, changing your tribe, your society, governments, countries. They have a lot of resources. Just check them out. But anyhow, back to our conversation about smart goals. So smart goals, isn't that smart? It's actually quite stupid. And, funnily enough, the universe is full of serendipitous coincidence happening just at the right time.

I heard and stumbled upon this new episode of Tim Ferriss' podcast. If you're a fan, say whoo, we're Tim Ferriss fans here. I stumbled upon this podcast episode that he released a couple weeks ago maybe, and podcast episode is an extract from his book for our work week, an audiobook version, and in this abstract on his podcast that is available for free online Tim Ferriss podcast Tim Ferriss show. On this episode he introduced this concept of dreamlining, which combines dreaming and streamlining, or creating an effective strategy to achieve specific results. Dreamlining, a concept from Tim Ferriss' book, the 4-Hour Workweek, helps you define and achieve dreams by turning vague ideas into clear, actionable steps with deadlines it's kind of dreaming with smart strategies turning them into reality. It's the perfect blend of dreaming big and planning smart. Ferris says Dreamlining combines dreaming, thinking big about what you want in life with planning, mapping out how to get there, how to stay motivated for big, hairy, audacious goals in 2025.

Speaker 1

As a human and not chat GPT, whenever you feel your motivation slipping, you gotta ask yourself what is the dream behind the goal, behind the number, behind any metric? What is the dream that it represents? Dream of me. Why does the number matter? What does it represent? Who? What kind of version of self does it represent to you? Guys? Numbers don't inspire dreams, do. And if you want to plan smart, like a human, big, hairy, audacious goals that you are serious about achieving and guys, don't kid yourself, big, hairy, audacious goals will not come easy. You will struggle, you will suffer. Audacious goals will not come easy. You will struggle, you will suffer. What are you ready to suffer for? Be carry audacious goals.

Speaker 1

Again, numbers don't inspire dreams, do the formula for achieving those dreams. It's a smart strategy, but not a guarantee. At every step, just like in some computer game. You can die, you can fall and then sometimes you might not even return. But it's your risk to take and your choice to make right. So the formula to dream big and achieve those dreams.

Speaker 1

Number one dream big and unreasonable. Start with why and dream beyond what feels possible. What is your dream? What feels unachievable? But some part of you ask what if, outside of laws of physics, most things are achievable, especially in the world today? Number two smartify your dream. Break it into clear, actionable steps. I highly recommend going to that Team Fairy Show episode which, in the last 15 minutes, he outlines the process of dream aligning, which I did, which involves a couple more steps beyond smartifying, which combines, again, big thinking with smart planning. So, smartify your Dreams and again, additional resource here is Tim Ferriss' podcast, especially the last 15 minutes. And then never forget the why. Reconnect with your dream.

Speaker 1

Whenever you are stuck, whenever you feel like it's too hard and you feel like you don't have the motivation, the discipline to continue. You know there is this thing when it gets hard, remember why you started. When it gets hard, remember why you started. When it gets hard, remember why you started. And it actually has legit neuroscience research supporting this statement that this statement actually is very effective, because your why is the reward promised to your brain? To release dopamine, to give you the energy, the motivation to take action right now, to work hard to get what you want. When it gets hard, remember why you started. Why is the promise of reward as easy as that, the promise of reward as easy as that?

Speaker 1

So dream big and plan smart, because setting goals in a smart way from the get-go is kind of stupid, it's kind of unhuman. And, again, chat GPT will never be able to relate to that. I will never say never, but as of now. That's why asking for chat GPT for how you can achieve X where X is your dream, you will get some strategies, some smart tips and ideas, but understand that you you, the person that you are will have to do the work, and you have to think of and plan for and figure out the human factor in the equation, because you know there is this saying given more information was the answer, we'd all be billionaires with six-pack apps. We'll talk more about that in the next podcast episode. And what is the most important skill set you need to possess in order to achieve all of your goals in 2025 and beyond, and why chat GPT won't help you. But on that note we're going to finish today.
