Hello, I am Joshua P. Warren, and this is Joshua P. Warren Daily. Back in 2020, I decided to do something that I had never done before. I decided to create and sell a doll. And that's because I was looking for something that I thought would be a fun Christmas product, and I've always been interested in the mean old crumpus, which is kind of the anti-Santa Claus. When you're good, Santa brings you gifts. When you're bad, crumpus comes to your house and beats you up and drags you off to a cave. And I thought it would be cool to make a doll that had an interactive purpose. So the idea was that you would get this handmade crumpass doll in a nice gift box, and it would also come with a chain and a lock. And the idea was to take this doll out every Christmas at your house as a tradition. And toward the beginning of the season, you take the chain and you wrap the crumpass up in the chain. Therefore, you're binding him, and then you put the lock on it, and you are symbolically locking away all kinds of uh bad fortune or uh stress that you might have around the holidays or depression or any of that. It's really a ritual and a fun thing that the whole family can participate in. Every year you lock up the mean old crumpass and then you put the the lock, uh when you have the locked figure done, you put him maybe somewhere on the shelf or near the Christmas tree. And I actually hired an artist in South Carolina named Bill Eggleston to manufacture the dolls. And uh these are just you know original designs, and he just did a fantastic job. When you get the doll, though, um I wanted it to come with something that would sort of explain the reasoning behind why the doll has the chain and the lock. And so I wrote this short poem that comes with the doll, and it actually is printed to look like a little tiny leather bound book with an old fashioned font and like an old world image on it. And it's just called The Story of the Mean Old Crumpus. So I'm going to read to you the poem that I wrote in twenty twenty called The Story of the Mean Old Crumpus by Joshua P. Warren In the old world when children behaved through the day, Santa's sleigh would arrive, leaving toys for their play. But when children were bad and refused to behave, Crumpus would drag them away to his cave. As the years passed old Cumpus became even worse. For fun he'd raid towns to be foul with his curse. He'd spoil your holiday, love, cheer, and feast. Even Santa would cower in fear of this beast. In the icy and sparkling mountains up north, the snow fairy elf summoned her workers forth. She demanded of them an impossible task. Make a chain that will bind up the crumpas, and fast. Day and night the small craftsmen worked almost insane, and when done they had forged a miraculous chain. It's made from the armor of angels they held. A wicked thing wrapped in these links is in jail. The snow fairy elf flew to Crumpus's den. While he slumbered she wrapped him from ankle to chin. With a lock on the chain the old Crumpus was beat, and the villagers partied and sang on each street. The spirit of Cumpus can influence us all. But your Crumpus spirit is inside this doll. Wrap him tight with a chain, snap the lock on it strong, keep him out on display, and good luck lasts years long. So that's the story of the mean old Crumpus. And you know what? I think my sister Jessica Warren may actually still have uh some of these Kumpus dolls.
