I feel like we're in the era of like the internet DJ right now. It's like the time where um, you know, you had the the Spotify's and the Apple music and the playlist where everybody was consuming new music, where I feel like we're in this bubble of like everybody's like listening and consuming music through YouTube DJs. Um and so brands of the operation over here, he was like, bro, you need to do these YouTube sets.

He was like, Yeah, he was like, yo, you need to like he was sending me videos of like just examples of other people doing it. And it's funny because it's like when he sent it to me, there was a lot of people doing it, but it like even in this time, like we started what, like a year and a half ago? Like, it was like the first one was November of 2024. From then to now, it has been so many more like platforms that have become like legit platforms too. Sure. Um, but yeah, I just feel like we in the era of like that's how people are consuming music, right? It's just put it on their TV, put it on their computer, put it on their phone, on their tablet, whatever. So yeah, it was just like started with that, put the first one out in November, second one got deleted, as quiet as it kept. Nobody know that.

But um, great shooter in Jersey if you need it, Al Kwan. Um, but we shot two. The second one got deleted because he thought he gave me the files. Oh, and so he he like he's like, he's very organized with his files, so he don't like keeping extra files that he don't need. So he deleted it off his drops completely. And I was like, yo, remember to upload that. He's like, yeah, I got you. He's like, wait, I didn't give it to you. I was like, nah. That's completely gone. And so it was gone. And so, yeah. So that was that was your intro to creative. So yeah, so we shot the first one. The first one was fine, it's up now. You can watch it, but the second one got deleted, so then we didn't shoot another one till like five months later in April, and that became my most viral one. And then you just kept going with it, and then from there, yeah. How often do you do it? Like minimum once a month, kind of now. Okay, but um, yeah, we trying to we're trying to ramp up for sure.

So every time you do it, do you have a crowd with you? Or you ever do it solo?

No, I I they're traditionally done solo, okay, but then we do sp special like ones where it's like with people at dinner party, like my homie Connor Kane, he's a pro chef. He actually is on the Gordon Ramsay show. Next level chef is out right now. You can watch it. Um, little plug, a little plug. Um, but yeah, that's my homie. Like, we do so much content together as well. But we've done two, and so that was the one you saw with with Brit in there. That was the first one for Friendsgiving. Um, that was great, and then we did another one in New York. Um, yeah, with a with a couple homies, and that was dope as well. So, like yeah, trying to have more with people in it for sure.

But like I've been seeing a lot of that. Um, I'm sure you know playground. Like, I think they were just down south. Um, I haven't been to one physically, but I I definitely want to because it's like you're in a lounge or a club or whatever, but you know, you're the DJ's playing the set, everybody in the background having a good time. So that's my type of vibe. Yeah.

So in general, um, it was what like COVID? COVID 2020. Um, I just got like let go from my job. I was living in South Florida at the time, uh, went back home to Jersey. And um, we got a homeboy, uh, Drock. Shout out to Drock.

Uh we were we were talking about um, you know, just like stuff he had going on with music. And it's just like we were talking and he was like, bro, I just got like so much like administrative stuff I have to do. And I was like, yo, you don't have like a manager? And he was like, nah, I was like, shit, I'll do it. Oh, like yeah, I needed something, you know. Like, so we started working together. I ended up getting my job back crazy enough, went back to Florida, and like I spent all my time working, like trying to learn about music business. So I was just like, yo, I'm gonna just jump off the porch and just try to make it happen. Um ended up moving out here in like 2022. Shout out to Vance and Kev.

But um, but yeah, so moved out here, ended up getting a job as little TJ's personal assistant first. Oh wow. And then from there, I went to just a regular. Morgue the guy. And then we um I I met with I met Neil Dominique who runs just a regular day. He was manages Bryson Taylor, Ryan Trey, a bunch of other artists, and I was his personal assistant. And then that's where like I feel like I really like honed in on kind of what the music industry was, like learning you know, ups and downs, twists, turns, whatever it may be. Mind you, I'm still like on the side, like trying to work with Drog. He hadn't come into the fold yet. Um he was still doing his own thing. And from there went back to another company in New York. And then I think I got how I managed another artist named Cousin Stiz, and one day we were talking, and he was just like, yo, Morg, like, I think I'm gonna I'm gonna start DJing. I was like, alright, cool. Like, he was like, yo, so if you ever like Stiz ever doing anything, you need anything, like, holler at me. I was like, cool, say no more. So like maybe a a month or two goes by, Stiz ends up dropping a project, and we're doing a release party. So I was like, yo, God will sound now, go get it. God will sound now.

So um we hired, we had like a small budget, so but we needed someone to cover like the first, what was it, like probably like the first hour and a half. Yeah. The first hour and a half, and then the first hour. The first hour. It was just the first hour. It was a four, mind you, this is a four-hour event. So just the first hour. It was like, yo, like I don't have a budget, bro. Like, if you just want to come do it off the love, he was like, Bet. Boom, he's doing his thing, he's chilling. There's another DJ who uh shall not be named. He uh he he ended up not showing out to the gig. So thank you for that. If you're looking and you're watching, we appreciate you.

Shout out to you, but he didn't show up. Um and I walked up to him, I was like, yo, like you're doing your thing, bro. You you're going crazy. Uh, but the bad news is uh I'm gonna need you to keep DJing the rest of the night. And he was like, Word? I was like, Yeah, I'll like I'll give you the money that we were gonna get, bro. He did the full three hours, and bro, he was like, say no more, and just locked in. And like midway through the set, Stiz is like, yo, what the fuck? He was like, Yo, more, who is this, bro? I was like, This is my boy Josh. We grew up together. He was like, bro, he's nice. Like he said he gets it, like he just gets it. Mind you, this is like the first like outside gig he's done in front of like any of our homies. So fast forward maybe like another month or so. We kind of like, it's nothing really crazy. My co-manager, one of my boys, Tim, who I manage S with, calls me and he was like, yo, um, they're best friends with Carl Anthony Towns on the Knicks. And he was like, Yo, Kat just called me and said that they need a DJ for Jordan's birthday party. And he was like, Yo, you think Josh wanna do it? I said, Yes. Is that when you went to New York? No, no, no. This was out here.

So he wasn't playing for the Knicks at the time. He was still in Minnesota. He was still in Minnesota. This is before the trade. And um, yeah, he was in LA.

So we were like, I was like, I was like, yeah. Didn't even talk to him. I called him, I was like, look, bro, this is the play, you doing this shit.

You're like, you gotta do it, bro. So we're like, all right, cool. We go up there, whatever, have a good ass time, he kill it. They were like, yo, we about to do an after party. You want to come do the after party too? Boom, did the after party. And then the next day I called him in the morning, I was like, yo, like, I think, I think you should take this serious, bro. I think we could do something of it with it. And he was just like, Bet, like, what's up? I was like, yo, like, I don't know much about the DJ shit, but like I'd I would love to learn, bro. I'm quick on my feet, and like we can we can figure it out. And we went crazy after that.

So when this happened, how far into like the YouTube journey were you? This was how it started. How'd it even start it?

SPEAKER_01 10:31

Oh wow, like the car Anthony Towns gig he's referencing is like that's like that was my first paid gig. That was like that was that was like end of 2024. Um because yeah, Stiz dropped the album in August, and then that the release party was in August, and that was like my first time DJing in front of all of my friends at and like really DJing in front of a lot of people like that, but and then September was the next month, and then that was Jordan was birthday party at fucking uh Soho Malibu. Soho Malibu. And it was like that was like practically an eight hour set. And like that was like that led, I think that gave both of us the confidence because it was just like, well, you could do shit. Do eight hours I could do anything, you know what I'm saying? Like, you know what I mean? Like, what's a two-hour set after eight hours? You know what I'm saying? So that I think that was like, because I feel like that was probably the most nervous I ever was, because it was like one, it was like pay gig, didn't even know what to charge, didn't know like no, you know what I mean? Like, I won't say I didn't know what to play, but uh definitely just was like, I need to download more music and all of these things. Like my craze wasn't like really set up, and like so yeah, just feeling like almost underprepared, but just like nah, I got this, like I could do this. Right.

And so yeah, question questions for you, because you said you were like a little nervous at first. So do you feel like there's like a pressure to perform? Like if you're an actor or uh a stand-up comedian, do you feel that same pressure as a DJ? Or do you feel like people are more like tuning into the music?

SPEAKER_01 12:08

Yeah, I think I heard Chris Rock say a long time ago. He was like, being nervous just mean that you care. And so I think that like if you care, then you always a little. I I think anybody, it doesn't matter how bad, I'm sure Justin Bieber just did Coach Hall, I'm sure he was a little nervous. You know what I'm saying? Like, and he done he done rocked how many stages. It's like I think if you actually care, you're gonna always want to do a good job. And so when you're doing a a a big performance or even a small performance, you're gonna get, you know what I'm saying? If you care, you're gonna be a little nervous, right?

No, it's crazy. I had someone on earlier today, um, and he does some acting, so that's why I was asking, but he said it's actually uh you get more nervous with a smaller crowd opposed to the big ones.

I would, I would, I could definitely see that smaller. Yeah, it's more intimate, it's more like you're more vulnerable. You can't hide.

So let's say, for example, you're doing the window. Do you get nervous with like a small crowd like that? Or because it's all for sure, for sure, for sure. Is it all your people or random people too?

Well, when we're shooting it, it's it's usually our people. It's like friends. Um, the one we did in New York, there were a lot of strangers. It was a lot of people I didn't know. I was, it was more people I didn't know. I was than people that I did know. Whereas like the one we did at LA, it was like all it was definitely all of the homies. But um, yeah, I think it's all again, like I really like not to sound like that person, but I do care. So it's like I do get a little nervous, but like um I think when we're shooting, it's a little easier. Cause like usually I kind of know where I'm gonna go with it. Okay. Um, I think it's when it's like I know that I'm gonna like freestyle a set, is when I get a little nervous. Cause like if I'm DJing four people, I don't plan a set list. Like, I'm just gonna play to the room. Gotcha. Um, but like if I'm filming a window, traditionally I'll have like a playlist that like I, you know, can can help guide me so that it's not because it's such a production to edit and do that. You make one mistake, you gotta start over. You know what I'm saying? So it's like I ain't nobody got time for that.

But are you saying with the set list? If you make a mistake, yeah, yeah.

It's like it when we're recording the windows, like if I make a mistake, like this needs to flow throughout. Like, if I make a mistake, we gotta start over. So it's like, you know, I try to mitigate that by having somewhat of a playlist, but anytime I'm DJing with if it's not just me, then I'm not really going off a playlist. I'm a I'ma play to try to fit what's happening around me. Um but anytime you see me by myself, then yeah, that's usually like a playlist that like I come with. I still might freestyle like on you know while I'm shooting. Yeah, like while I'm shooting, I might be like, uh, I don't think that song should go next, and then switch it out. But like traditionally, I don't ever really go into it with like a plan set list.

Well, because you might have a different one. I I'm not gonna say this is the craziest, but I'm gonna say just is this one. This is just the first one that came to my mind. The first one that came to my mind was definitely um we did like a private thing for like um his pops. And bro, it's already sound bro, bro, bro. To this day, like that that day haunts me. And it was like, you know, everybody's like, he did such a great job. Like, people asking me for business cards, and I cannot let go of what happened. They so in the party, they had like a salsa moment. And so yeah, so like, you know, they had saucered, like teachers helping everybody to dance. Like, it was a fly party. Like, shout out, shout out Doc, man. That was a well-curated event. Um, but the dancer, like the teacher, she had asked me, like, yo, I need you to have these songs preloaded. And so she was like, Yeah, like she was like, I just need a uh saucer song, a bachata song, and like let's just start with the electric slot. And I'm like, Yeah, bet. That's easy for sure. I got all of that. Um we get to that moment. It occurs to me right at that moment when she tells me to play electric slot, because she was like, everybody knows electric slot, it's and like dancing bachata is and is like effectively like the basic roots of that is like the electric slot. So I'm like, Bet. I go to play electric slot, and it hits me like wait, she said electric slot, not cha cha slot. And for whatever reason, when she asked me to play, did I have electric slot? I registered as cha cha slot. I had never downloaded electric slot. That was also a mistake on my part. Like, why don't you have electric slot with karate?

But like, you need to download this, bro. Like, turn it into a hotspot or whatever it may be. Like, you gotta do it. So I'm not up there at this point. So, like, I guess, like, busy yesterday or whatever. He was like, yo, like, I'll Josh, like, yo, I'll hype the crowd, whatever. And he was like, no, don't worry about it. Like, Chase will come, like, just swap out with you, and Chase will do it. Like, all right, bet. So, bro, out of nowhere, bro. Like, I'm not, mind you, I'm not by the stage at this point. Like, I'm probably like a little like on side. I just hear like them just start going crazy. Like the fans going crazy, and I walk up there, bro. And like it had just downloaded at that point. Like, it had just downloaded.

So then I just went, I found one person that had uploaded the album for download. So I download it. Um just to have it. But I didn't even put it in Serrado. Cause I'm like, they're not, it's not, they're going to do a transition, right? Chase gonna come up, because like he said, I asked busy. I'm like, yo, if you want me to die, he's like, nah, don't worry about that. Chase gonna do that, get the crown rolling down. I'm like, bet. Bro, I'm just DJing. I'm like, I'm just keep playing songs. Just keep playing the songs. You know what I'm saying?
