Welcome everyone. This is Russ Scalzo Chronicles of the End Times. Thank you for being with me today as we are looking at what's going on in Syria and how it plays into Bible prophecy. We've talked many times about Ezekiel 38 and 39, but what's happening in Syria right now is the fulfillment of Bible prophecy in the sense that Turkey is the key country in the invasion of Israel that Ezekiel declares in chapter 38 and 39. Way back in December 2017, the state-run Turkish newspaper ran an article calling for the United Army of Islam to invade Israel, and more recently, president Erdogan emerged as one of the most vocal opponents when President Trump made the decision to recognize Jerusalem as the undisputed capital of the Jewish state, and he has even said that Muslims should embrace the cause of Jerusalem to the death. This is the president of Turkey Now, you might say. Well, I thought Turkey was a more moderate Islamic state. It's a member of NATO and has been an ally of the United States.

By all accounts, turkey has now emerged as one of the primary antagonists of Israel in the Middle East, and many people familiar with the teaching of Ezekiel 38 and 39, they know this prophecy speaks of the military invasion of Israel led by a figure known as Gog in the land of Magog. Many times, you hear about Gog being a part of Russia and it's also further described as the prince of Rosh, Meshach and Tubal. It has been believed for years, and I have said it myself in some of my studies, that Rosh was Russia and the cities that Ezekiel mentions are part of Russia. It is becoming quite obvious that in verse 3 of Ezekiel 38, the Spirit of the Lord is talking about Turkey. It talks about this Gog, this individual, this leader, as the prince of Meshach and Tubal. There have been many books written on Ezekiel 38 and 39, when this invasion was going to take place, how it was going to take place. What are the countries involved? Invasion was going to take place. How it was going to take place. What are the countries involved? And the debate has always been: is Turkey going to lead the way or is Russia going to lead the way? And scholars have been divided on this for some time, but over the last few years it has fallen out of favor among many scholars. There is near unanimous agreement in the scholarly Bible communities that in Ezekiel's day, Magog, Meshach and Tubal were all in what is now modern Turkey.

I'd like to read something from the Jewish Voice, and this is from February 2020. It is bone-chilling when you think of it in the light of what's going on right now in Syria. This critical prophecy in Ezekiel 38 and 39 may explain why Turkey has recently become one of the primary enemies of Israel on the world stage. Now, of course, we do not want to jump to conclusions and say that Erdogan must be Gog. However, those of us with an interest in the signs of the times should definitely keep a close eye on Turkey. Based on Ezekiel's prophecy, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that key prophetic events will transpire in Turkey in the days ahead. Wow, and that was written four years ago.

So, what exactly is going on in Syria right now, and why do we believe Turkey's involved? Let's get to it. President Erdogan has always had it in his mind to restore the Ottoman Kingdom and if you know anything about history, the Ottoman Kingdom was divided after World War I by England and France. It was known as the Sykes-Picot Agreement. It was an agreement between France and Britain in 1916. It divided the Ottoman Empire into spheres of British and French influence. President Erdogan has always thought of himself as the one to bring all that back.

So, who are the rebels that are supposedly bringing freedom to Syria? If you know anything about the news over the last 20-30 years, we know Assad was a killer, a murderer of hundreds of thousands, some say millions. Between the years 2012 and 2019, a study confirmed 336 attacks involving chemical weapons in Syria. The study attributed 98% of the total chemical attacks to the Assad regime. This man was a murderer. In 2015, President Obama had described Assad's potential use of chemical weapons as a red line that would have enormous consequences. Well, Assad kind of just chuckled at that, crossed the red line and nothing was ever done. So, when you hear on the news that Israel is bombing areas in Syria, the reason for that is they don't want those chemical weapons getting in the hands of those rebels. Russia left a lot of weapons behind as they fled the area, flying their fighter jets out and other materials, but they didn't get them all. In the northeast portion of Syria, where the Kurds are, there are many Christians. There are communities that are being run democratically and, as of this morning, some of those rebels were attacking those people.

On the outside, to some people it may look oh, this is great. You know people are being set free and all those prisoners that Assad put in there and the terrible things that he did to them? They're finally going to be free. That may be the case. I hope it is, but we can't be naïve about this situation. We've heard so much about Iran's proxies Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and so many more. Now Turkey's involved and they have their own proxy groups. Turkey will not send in their troops that would be too blatant, but this is a good way to get what they want. Turkey has the second largest standing force in NATO after the United States. That makes them a formidable enemy of Israel, and since they have declared their intentions many times through the years, we should not wonder why Israel is so concerned and why they want to destroy whatever armament the Russians left behind and whatever chemical weapons were stored by the Assad regime.

For someone like myself, who has been studying Bible prophecy for almost 50 years now, I always find it amazing how things can change in a moment's time, many trying to figure out when this battle of Ezekiel 38 and 39 could take place, and then, all of a sudden, over the last year and a half, we see cataclysmic changes being made. This latest turn of events in Syria is really eye-opening. You have three main groups of rebels whose ideology is different. They say they want to bring everyone together in Syria into one Islamic state. But we know how addictive power is. But that Turkey is behind it, I believe we will see them take a major role on how this government is formed. But one thing they do have in common: they all want to see the destruction of Israel. The table may be set over the next year, we don't know, but pieces continue to fall into place.
