Sons of God: Understanding Divine Lineage

Send us a text

God has always had a divine family hierarchy that existed before humanity, with supernatural beings called "sons of God" who witnessed Earth's creation and were given rulership responsibilities within His kingdom.

• The oldest book in the Bible, Job, reveals that "sons of God" existed before Earth was created
• Psalm 82 depicts God standing in a divine council among "gods" who failed their responsibilities
• Jesus referenced this divine council when explaining his divinity to religious leaders
• All humans are made in God's image and likeness, possessing eternal spirits and creative capacities
• Only those who accept Christ become children of God, adopted into His family through redemption
• Fallen sons of God (principalities and powers) still influence nations and territories today
• The cross disarmed these fallen powers, removing their authority over believers
• God's ultimate plan is to replace fallen spiritual beings with redeemed humans who will rule with Christ

Keep looking up. The King is coming.

Welcome everyone. This is Russ Scalzo Chronicles of the End Times. Thank you for being with me today. I hope you're doing well and living for the Lord.

Today we're going to talk about some pretty interesting things. One, what did God have in mind when he decided to create the human race? What does it mean to be a child of God? And what does it mean to be made in the image and the likeness of God? Is there a difference? Are the two the same? And we're also going to look at the other gods in the earth, the spirits that rule the nations of this world, that influences the news that we see and hear every single day, these horrific things that are going on around us.

Speaker 0: 0:56

Let’s dig into it. We're going to begin in the Gospel of John, chapter 1, as the Apostle John begins to declare, under the power of the Holy Spirit, just who this Jesus Christ is, that we follow that which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and touched with our hands concerning the word of life, the life that was made manifest, and we have seen it and we testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was made manifest to us. That which we have seen and heard, we proclaim to you so that you too may have fellowship with us, and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ, and we are writing these things so that our joy and your joy may be complete. We've touched on this before, but we're going to go deep into it today. And we know that the Word of God is alive because the Word of God is Jesus Christ. He had a mission, and that was to reach out to the entire world, bring salvation for all those who would call upon his name, and with that, he wanted to develop children of God. He wanted to adopt, through the blood of Jesus Christ, those who would come to him, because God is all about family. Did you know that God had family before he created the earth and before he created human beings? Let's check it out.

The book of Job is the oldest book in the Bible, and you might think well, wait a minute, I thought Genesis was the oldest book in the Bible. I mean, how could it be any older? That's the beginning. The dates for when the book was written are estimated between 1440 and 1400 BC. But now the book of Job, many believe was written possibly 400 years before Genesis, but we don't really know the author of it.

Speaker 0: 2:56

It's about Job and his friends and all that Job went through and how his friends gathered around him and tried to come up with all these reasons why Job was suffering like he was. And then, finally, God intervenes and rebukes them. Then he talks to Job face to face. It's a great story. But in chapter 38, he answers Job and all these arguments and all these discussions that have been going on. He says where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding, who determined its measurements Surely you know or who stretched out the line upon it, on what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy. So here we see that they were sons of God before the human race was created, and when you think about it makes sense. I mean, God is an eternal God. What do we think he was doing for those eons of time before he created mankind? And God is all about family. So, he wanted to have a family around him. So, he created these other beings. They may be angels, or they may be different supernatural beings. Whoever they are, they're called the sons of God.

Speaker 0: 4:12

We see that several times, especially in the book of Job. Let's read just a little bit of that in Job, chapter 1, beginning in verse 6. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. And the Lord said to Satan From where have you come? Satan answered the Lord and said From going to and fro on the earth and walking up and down on it. So, let's jump back to Genesis, not so much in the time it was written, but more in the time it represents the beginning In Genesis, chapter 6, a scripture you may be familiar with. When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were attractive, and they took as their wives any they chose. That's another reference to the sons of God. There are others, but for time's sake, we're going to march on. Now we're going to move to an undetermined time period.

Speaker 0: 5:15

The story is recorded in Psalm 82. Let's read that God has taken his place in a divine council. In the midst of the gods, he holds judgment. How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Give justice to the weak and the fatherless. Maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy. Deliver them from the hand of the wicked. They have neither knowledge nor understanding. They walk about in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken. I said you are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you. Nevertheless, like men, you shall die and fall like any prince. Arise, o God, and judge the earth, for you shall inherit all the nations.

Speaker 0: 6:00

This is a very revealing psalm. It talks about God being a divine counsel. We've talked about this a little bit in other podcasts, but God does have a divine counsel, and there are other gods. Now it's interesting that when we see the name God, we immediately add all the attributes to the Almighty God, the only God. But if we check out the entire Bible, we'll see that the Hebrew word Elohim is used many times to describe different spirit beings, and here in Psalm 82, we see it used again. There's the Almighty God and then there's the lesser gods. These are the spirit beings that God created. He called them sons, just like we've read in other scriptures, but here he's rebuking them. Many interpret this as he's rebuking the elders of Israel, but here he's rebuking the heavenly sons of God, these spiritual beings that he created, and he created them because he wanted to share his kingdom, which goes right along with what we know about God, what Jesus displayed about God In the Gospels and in the book of Revelation.

Speaker 0: 7:10

We are going to rule and reign with him. I mean, it doesn't seem feasible. When I think about it, I'm like I'm not worthy to rule and reign with Jesus, that's for sure. But that's what he wants for us. He's replacing those sons of God that disobeyed him with us. We are now the children of God. Those of us who accept Jesus Christ, repent of our sins, and are covered in the blood of Jesus. That's our righteousness now. As you can see, the plan is clear. Jesus came to the earth because God yearned to have more family, and the only way he could have more family is if those family members were righteous and the only way, we could become righteous is through the blood of Jesus Christ for his one and only son. And really that word only is more properly defined as unique. He is unique, one of a kind. And that takes us to the explanation that Jesus was making to the Pharisees and the Sadducees in John, chapter 10, where they are really coming after him and they're saying just tell us if you're the Messiah. Just tell us, stop beating around the bush and talking in circles that we don't understand. Let's take a look at that scripture now, john, chapter 10. We're going to pick it up in verse 22.

Speaker 0: 8:29

At that time, the feast of dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter and Jesus was walking in the temple in the colonnade of Solomon. So, the Jews gathered around him and said to him how long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly. I told you, and you do not believe the works that I do in my Father's name. Bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.

Speaker 0: 9:16

The Jews picked up stones again to stone him, and Jesus answered them. I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of them are you going to stone me? The Jews answered him. It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you, but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God. Jesus answered them. Is it not written in your law? I said you are gods. If he called them gods to whom the word of God came, and scripture cannot be broken. Do you say of him, whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, spoken? Do you say of him, whom the father consecrated and sent into the world, you are blaspheming, because I said I am the son of God? If I am not doing the works of my father, then do not believe me, but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works that you may know and understand that the father is in me, and I am in the father.

Speaker 0: 10:10

Again, they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands. So here he uses the scripture on them. Let's keep in mind that the men he is talking to know the scripture inside and out. That's their job, their only job. The scribes, the Pharisees, the Sadducees, all of them. They live in the word, they meditate on it, they read it day and night. They are the ultimate in knowledge of God at this time. They know full well what he's saying. And he's not telling them you are gods. He's telling them what they already know that there are other sons of God. And then he goes on to say that I'm not one of them. I'm the one and only son of God. I am in the Father and the Father is in me. He's telling them I am God. I am God in the flesh, and of course that's why they want to kill him and eventually do.

Speaker 0: 11:04

The point here is when we read about what the Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians and other books. He talks about principalities. He talks about powers in high places, heavenly places. This is who he's talking about. He's talking about the fallen sons of God that God put in charge of different places on the earth to do righteous things. He gave them responsibilities, just like he's going to give us when we get to heaven, when we rule over this earth. And they chose to seek their own worship, just like their father, Satan.

Speaker 0: 11:40

You can look into this further in Daniel the scripture that many of you may know well, where Daniel is praying in chapter 9, and the angel comes to tell him that he is considered in high esteem in heaven, that his prayers are being answered the moment he started to pray them. But he was withheld by the prince of Persia, which is a demon prince, one of the sons of God who fell, who were supposed to rule and reign over areas, and decided to do it their own way. Now, as we turn to current events, what's going on in Israel now, and how the war is just widening by the day, I hope we understand that these demon princes, these fallen sons of God, are still in control. They control these areas around Israel, they surround Israel, for their desire is to crush and destroy Israel, as it has been since the beginning. The whole world is under their power. The only ones who are not under their power are those who are washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, those who are committed to him, the true sons of God.

Speaker 0: 12:49

Not everyone in this world is a son of God. Everyone in this world is made in the likeness of God, which means they have an eternal spirit, which means God has given them gifts, gifts that he has, gifts to sing, to create, to feel, to touch, to understand, to make decisions, to reason. These are all the gifts that God's given. That makes them in the image of God, but it does not make them children of God. Jesus explains that very well in probably what is the most famous chapter in all the Gospels John, chapter 3. He explains to Nicodemus that he must be born again, that the flesh, yes, comes first, but then the Spirit. You are born of the flesh, but you need to be born of the Spirit as well. All those who call upon the name of the Lord and repent of their sins, God has given them the privilege and the power to become children of God. That's the difference, and we have to understand that.

Speaker 0: 13:52

At the cross, the scripture tells us that God Almighty, in the form of Jesus Christ, made an open show of Satan and his followers and he disarmed the sons of God that fell. He disarmed them of their power, not over the world, but over you and I, those who follow Christ. They no longer have that power over us, but they still hold the captives, and that's why Jesus said I've come to set the captives free. It is a spiritual battle, it is real, and God wants his family to stand up for him, his children that he's redeemed, for he has a future for us that is going to be incredible beyond words. I pray that you are encouraged today and know that God desires you to be part of his family, not just for a moment in time, but for eternity.

Speaker 0: 14:47

And think about it. Who gets the good jobs from the king? Who gets the good appointments? It's his family. It's his sons and daughters, and so it is with Jesus. He's going to give us the appointments that he desires, not because we deserve them, but because he loves us, and he has brought us in and adopted us as sons and daughters. God is amazing.
