Carol Marks:

Well, good morning, everyone. This is Carol Marks of the more remarks podcast. Welcome, welcome. And it has been a while. Look, I got distracted by life in the holidays. In COVID, I didn't have COVID, I do not have COVID never had COVID knock on wood, hopefully I will not have it. However a family member did. But she is doing fine. She texted me this morning and says she's feeling great. So that's a relief. The other thing is that we did have to put jack down our little puppy. I say puppy, he was 12 years old. And forgive me, but I'm walking outside, I just finished rowing. And I will get to that in a minute. And you're gonna probably hear some cars in the background. But I wanted to get on here and get to it. So I wouldn't procrastinate anymore. And this will be a good opportunity to see if the magic mastering from buzzsprout will drown out the cars. I doubt it. Because that would be a big task. But anyway, so yeah, we had to put our dog down. I hate to use that term because it sounds terrible. But he was getting to the point where he couldn't walk. And he was wetting himself where he lived and he had kidney disease. So Oh, that was a terrible day. It was November 23. And we did go ahead and use the surface, we got his ashes. And we have it in a little box late, but we have a little shrine form in our house. We still talk to him like he's still alive. Bless It is really we still have not gotten used to it. And that was November 23. We still come home and think he's gonna be there for us. But anyway, let's move on, shall we? I think I will pause it for just a second to get by. I didn't realize the cars would be this loud. on this end of where I'm walking. Someone hit pause for a minute, and I'll be right back. You won't even notice. But anyway, standby. Okay, I'm on the back side of the townhomes. Now. Maybe I got out of the traffic sound. Of course now we're probably going to have wind in our microphone. Oh, well. I have started this rowing holiday rowing challenge. Put on by concept two. If you just Google concept to concept and the number two, it's it's the brand name of a rower that I have in my garage. And they do challenges I think every month. But back in November, before Thanksgiving, I saw the holiday rowing challenge. And the money raised goes to a charity that you choose. They have like four or five you can choose from. And I chose them a most beautiful thing inclusion fund put on by the George pokok Foundation. And a most beautiful thing is a documentary. And it's a book about these teenagers in the west side of Chicago. Back in the 90s, I think first high school first black High School rowing team from West Side of Chicago. That's where all the gangs are. And anyway, if you watch this documentary, it explains everything and talks about their lives and how they grew up on the west side of Chicago where there's a gang on every single block. And they see people getting shot kids getting shot all the time. And what struck me was one of the guys was talking about seeing a kid shot right there on the sidewalk in front of his high school. And the interviewer was asking, how did that make you feel? And he said, you know, if I'm being honest, I didn't feel anything. Because that's was our life. And that's what we saw all the time. And I just sat and watched that documentary with my mouth hung open. I mean, you know, you hear about that you see stuff in the movies, but to actually see real people affected by that and what they went through. And their entire families their mothers being on crack.

Carol:

Oh my god. Oh my gosh, it was eye opening. Let me tell you now, everybody came out better. In the end, I'll tell you that the mother's got clean and sober and all that, which is great. But watch the documentary. I want everybody in the entire world to watch that documentary. It was eye opening for me. And now I had already picked that. I had already picked that charity to roll before I even saw the documentary, because of a quote by Dr. Shay Cooper. He was one of the rowing members from manly High School, back in the day, one of the first black High School rowers. And he said, I can't remember the code Exactly. But it's on my blog at Carroll remarks calm. And it's something like you know, here we were first black High School, we thought we would be like Jackie Robinson and change the whole game and change everything because we're the first black rollers for high school and do this. Hey, so what happened was it changed us? And I was like, Oh, my gosh, it was it was just a good quote. And it's on my blog at Carol remarks calm, it just brought tears to my eyes. And that's what I'm doing. I'm doing is started doing the holiday rolling challenge. And it started on Thanksgiving Day. You had two levels to choose from 100,000 meters or 200,000 meters. And good morning bird. And I chose the harder one. I chose the 200. And you know what? It is December 10. And I am on track. I am on track to make it. I've already hit 100,000 meters. I'm actually at 136,000 meters. And if you translate that into miles, that's 84 miles. Now that is from Thanksgiving day until December 10. I even did a half marathon on the rower at one time. Oh my gosh, that was awesome. But as so it's like rolling the 84 miles is like rolling from Huntsville, Alabama, to Birmingham, Alabama. I think that's funny. It's only taken me about how many days since Thanksgiving Day to December 10. Funny, I'm just excited to be doing this. I know I'm gonna make my goal and to be raising money for a most beautiful thing. Inclusion fund. It goes to help kids that don't necessarily have the opportunity to do something like this takes them outside their environment and gives them something new to try and do and yeah, it's good. I like it. Go check it out. Anyway, I'm coming up on the bumper buses and their dogs are barking like crazy. So I know magic mastering can't fix that.

Unknown:

But the gent and I are going to go to Tunica

Carol Marks:

soon. And I will probably do a podcast from there again. It's good to be back on the podcast. Just you know got busy with some stuff in the holidays and everything. Tomorrow is my birthday. I will be 54 years old. I'm actually having a hard time with that. Turning 50 didn't bother me. But why is turning 54 kind of wigging me out a little bit. 54 I don't feel 54 whatever that's supposed to feel like.

Unknown:

Anyway.

Carol Marks:

I guess that's all I have to say. Stay tuned and I'll be back again. Y'all have a great day. Go check out my blog at Carol remarks calm and have a good week. See ya.
