Pope's Passing and Political Peculiarities

Carol Marks

TALK TO ME, TEXT IT

Easter Monday brings a mix of solemn reflection and heated debate as we discuss Pope Francis's unexpected passing and what this means for Catholics worldwide – both devout and those who've stepped away from regular religious practice.

The conversation takes a sharp political turn when examining former President Trump's recent "thinking out loud" comment about deporting "homegrowns next." This off-the-cuff remark ignited immediate controversy with political commentator Simone Sanders and Representative Glenn Ivey promoting the unfounded fear that Black Americans could be targeted for deportation. We cut through the race-baiting rhetoric to analyze what Trump likely meant about violent criminals while acknowledging the constitutional impossibility of deporting American citizens.

Perhaps most passionate is our examination of the Boston Marathon's gender division policies. Coinciding with Patriots Day's 250th anniversary, this iconic American sporting event has permitted biological males to compete in women's divisions since 2018. We highlight the case of Ria Susing (born Robert Sheen Young), who has competed in female categories over 338 times, winning medals in 140+ instances – each victory displacing deserving women athletes. This practice fundamentally undermines athletic fairness and the competitive opportunities women fought decades to secure. When even "Women's Running Magazine" features biological males on covers meant to champion female athletes, we must ask: what spaces remain protected for women in sport?

The episode concludes with a thought-provoking question about political awakening. What issues first captured your attention in your formative years? Was it military service, civil rights, environmental concerns, or something entirely different? Share your story and join the conversation about how these early influences shape our lifelong civic participation and values.

Speaker 1:

Well, good morning, happy Easter Monday. The Pope is dead and he was just seen yesterday with JD Vance and out and about. That is so weird. I know that he had been sick for a long time, I don't know. But rest in peace.

Speaker 1:

I'm not going to say anything else, except now it starts the process of finding a new one. And, yes, I'm Catholic, even though I'm not a practicing one. Right now. When I say I'm not practicing, you know, I tried my best to be a good person, but I don't attend mass anymore like I used to, and all of that I'll. You know. I know I should, but okay, we're going to move on because I have some other stories I want to talk about as well. I feel like I can't say anything about the Pope because I haven't been active in my religion. Okay, but I do want to talk about a couple of things that I wrote about, one for the Victory Girls blog. Let's go over here. I should have had this prepared for you all. Sorry, kenny, but I hope you had a great Easter too. May God bless you and grant you everything that your heart desires, and I really do mean that. So here we go Over at the Victory Girls blog I blogged about.

Speaker 1:

Simone Sanders thinks black Americans are next to be deported, all because of Trump saying out loud in front of cameras that the homegrowns are next. Oh my gosh, I think President Trump is the most think outout-loud president ever, so he might be the most think-out-loud president in American history. It's like every idea pops into his head, gets an instant press release. Who needs leaks when the man live streams his own thoughts in real time? Right, I go to the rule that Jeffy has. Just because the camera's in front of your face doesn't mean you have to talk. And I know he's President Donald Trump. I understand what he's trying to say. I understand what he's saying. We're not talking about the regular everyday criminal. We're talking about hugely awful, violent, insane criminals here that are gang members. Yes, america has gang members. Did you know that? Shocking right. He's talking about those kind of people, our very own MS-13 people here in America that are United States citizens. Now should they be shipped overseas to a foreign prison? No, against the law, the Constitution does not allow that. I am sure, even though Donald Trump says they're looking into it, I have some opinions. My first gut reaction is if they're the violent ones, just like that guy who killed Rachel Morin, even though he wasn't illegal. But if somebody like that American citizen here did that, I don't think I'd have a problem with it. But but we, then we open a door and I don't know that I want that Now. If now can we have a prison like the one in El Salvador, maybe run by Americans, I don't know how that would work, I don't know. So I wrote about that over there. She's just totally outraged, saying black people are going to be deported next Shut up. If you want to go read that, I'll read the first paragraph. Deported next Shut up. If you want to go read that, I'll read the first paragraph.

Speaker 1:

Simone Sanders is once again fanning the flames of her fear, claiming black Americans could be next to be deported under Trump, backed by Representative Glenn Ivey and an op-ed from the Nation. Her narrative is pure race beating with no basis. In fact, the Joy Reid replacement took to her MSNBC pulpit this week to drop one of the most outrageous bits of race beating we've heard in a while, and that's really saying something. According to her, black Americans are next in line to be deported under Trump. Yes, really, not criminals, not foreign nationals, just black people. And, right on cue, representative Glenn Ivey, who is from Maryland, jumped on board with his nonsense warning about the threat of Americans of color. So I think also. I heard recently that this Representative Glenn Ivey is going to go over to El Salvador and also meet with Kilgore whatever, abrea, gers, whatever his name is over there. He also wants to go meet with them.

Speaker 1:

What is the obsession? Okay, so now we got to talk about Boston Strong. The Boston Marathon is supposed to be run, the 129th running of the Boston Marathon. I guess it helps celebrate the 250th day of Patriots Day as well. And guess what? Boston Strong? Not when it comes to allowing men to compete against women in the Boston Marathon.

Speaker 1:

Jennifer Say S-E-Y is the owner of the XX slash XY Athletics and Riley Gaines is a spokesperson for them. I think too. Jennifer Say is a former gymnast and author who has been outspoken about the males competing in women's sports. Now she's not as famous as some of these other people, but you know who she is. She has the XXXY Athletics. She wrote this New York Post article which I took as inspiration to write my own blog post and I'm going to read a little bit to you now.

Speaker 1:

The 129th Boston Marathon hits the streets on April 21st today, right in step with the 250th anniversary of Patriots Day. A historic day that once celebrated rebellion and resilience is now being overshadowed by a new kind of absurdity men and women's divisions. Jennifer Say, writing in the New York Post, finally says what far too many are too afraid to Enough is enough. It's time to stop pretending that male bodies in female sports aren't a problem, because they are, and the Boston Marathon, one of the most iconic sporting events in America, is letting it happen. Now, this is not the first year. It's been happening since 2018, I believe, so it's been happening for a while. Um, in case you didn't know that, yeah, so she. She goes on and she writes, because I quote her, I pull a quote from the new york post article yet now the marathon has allowed a male to compete in the women's division because he claims to be a woman.

Speaker 1:

Ria susing, born, born Robert Sheen Young, is a man, a long-time runner, and has competed in races in the female category more than 338 times since 2009, meddling for his age group more than 140 times. In each of those races, he displaced a deserving woman, and every time he stood atop the podium, he displaced many allowing male runners in women's races undermines fairness and disadvantages female competitors. Of course we know this. It means a man could win every boston marathon category men's, women's and the non-non binary too, because apparently they have a non-binary category as well. Why doesn't he go run in that? So no space is protected for women at all, on a day meant to honor courage and freedom? This is what breaking barriers really means. This isn't now. I go on. This is my words. Now. This isn't some brand new progressive frontier.

Speaker 1:

The Boston Athletic Association has allowed males to register as women since at least 2018, as long as they identify as such. What does that mean? In other words, facts and biology take a backseat to feelings and ideology, and they're getting away with it under the banner of inclusivity. Even the media has been playing along for years. So Women's Running Magazine actually put a transgender, biological sorry, put a biological male on the cover of their magazine, championing women, spotlighting men. Oh, it's just the insanity. You can go finish reading that if you'd like, because I need to wrap it up here. I you know, I just don't understand. I don't understand as much as I've been covering this and talking about the trans cult, the ideology where women want to accept that men can become women is just absurd to me. I don't understand this at all and as many as much as I've been covering it, I still don't understand it. You'd think by now I would understand this, but I don't, because I'm a regular, normal person who believes the truth. Male and female, and that's it. Men cannot become women, women cannot become men, period.

Speaker 1:

All right, we've got to go to the question of the day. Okay, I have a good question. It's a political question. In your growing up, of coming of age type thing, what was probably the first political event or cause or issue that caught your attention early on in your youthful years? I'm not sure what mine was, maybe probably military and veterans, probably. So I mean, I joined the Navy when I was 18 years old. So there you go. What was your early on as a youthful young person? What caught your attention in the political realm to make you think, hmm, maybe I need to go vote. That's the question of the day. All right, thank you for listening. Have a great day. Love y'all Bye.
