261. Biblical Dialogue of Caleb, Part 3

Nicson Silvanie & Adnie Gaudin

Send us a text

Faith requires seeing beyond physical obstacles to God's promises, even when circumstances seem overwhelming. We must remember God's faithfulness in our past to trust Him with our present challenges.

• Caleb stood apart from other spies by focusing on God's promise rather than the obstacles
• Many believers reduce their relationship with God to a mere checklist of religious activities
• We all need a "Caleb" in our lives who maintains spiritual vision when our faith falters
• Sometimes our enemies recognize God's power in our lives more clearly than we do ourselves
• At age 85, Caleb conquered the very giants that had terrified others 45 years earlier
• God fights our battles but gives us credit for the victory when we trust Him wholeheartedly

If you haven't obeyed the gospel, hear, believe, repent, confess and be baptized for the remission of your sins. Find a local Church of Christ and build a relationship with Jesus Christ. Remember that Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

Speaker 1:

Folks just go to church. Oh yeah, I went to church today. Check, I took the communion today. Check, I read my verse today. Check, I did my five second prayer, maybe 10 second prayer. Check, oh, I'm good with God. They bringing back bad report. Oh yeah, moses, you know, because God is blessing this Israel, these Israelites. But, moses, you know, these people over there, they kind of strong and it's like, I'm sure, moses probably thinking I'm just kind of like speculating, like as a leader, like didn't you not see what God did to all these gods in Egypt? Like it's nothing compared to what you just seen. So that's a negative. So we're going to go. If I could have like a animation and they messed up with that. So the next checklist they say, oh, the city is large. Oh, good news. Oh man, you talking about big cities. Oh, man, name a big city, adney, name a city that's big in America.

Speaker 2:

New York. Oh, excuse me, I'm sorry I missed the biggest one, texas, that state, the whole state of Texas, because they do everything big in Texas, everything big in. Texas Right.

Speaker 1:

Everything big in Texas, dallas is huge.

Speaker 2:

All of them cities in Texas are huge right, yes, go ahead, Continue. So they tell her.

Speaker 1:

Bozus, bozus, man. There's some land over there like hey, man, man, you, hey, god was right Land flow, milk and honey and man them. Cities over there are large, nothing to compare to where we at them. Things are huge, right, and this is what they're going to say. So not only they said, you know, in the prior verse, you know the people that live there are strong. They're going to say oh yeah, oh yeah, you know so-and-so folk, them bad boys over there. I'm talking about them, bad boys. They got a bad reputation. I'm talking about them, bad boys. They got a bad reputation. Moses, you heard about them. Annex, right, them sons of annex. You talking about the ones that came from the Nephilim, them I'm talking about. They're there too.

Speaker 2:

They're over there, moses, them dudes are like, and please no offense to any gang members. It's like saying, man, the bloods in the crypts are there, or or the, the spanish one, I think they're called um los something, they're there yeah, I don't right, I can't look no, but just to say, just to bring it to modern day, right when you're thinking about, this gang or that gang is there.

Speaker 2:

We can't take the land, because those gangs are there and Moses is like hey, you ain't see what God did with that other gang that literally showed them all that stuff that they was worshiping. As a matter of fact, the last and final one was death, like killed all the firstborns and y'all was spared. Here's the kicker. Y'all was spared. Y'all are here now in this. Here's a kicker. Y'all were spared. Y'all are here now in this land. The greatest, one of the biggest miracles, was the death angel passing and you were spared. We did not lose not one. Yep, yep, yep. So I'm sending you to the land flowing with milk and honey. So I'm sending you to the land flowing with milk and honey, and you talking about the Anax, the Amalekites the Hittites, the Jephthah.

Speaker 2:

God took out the firstborns of Egypt and none of y'all was lost. So you mean to tell me the God that did that can't handle this business for y'all? That to me and I have to bring it to me, I have to say it for me.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Like transparently, my greatest struggle since I've moved here to Atlanta has been financial and as I'm thinking about this, I'm saying, lord, you've allowed me to pay my rent. Yes, there were times I had to pay that extra because the rent was late, but you still provided for me and in your provisions it was sisters and some brothers who went and I saw, I opened my mouth and here it is the blessings flow. Oh, but you're going to go through it again and what I'm learning now, even through this, is the faith piece. If he did it for me two years ago, three years ago, four, five, 10 years ago, won't he still do it for me today? Yep, it's the faith piece and that's the part that I believe in this account that the Holy Spirit wanted us to see.

Speaker 2:

When you have faith, you don't see what's taking place around you. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Right, because they saw it. They saw the anak. They still did see the land flowing with milk and honey. They bypassed the flowing with milk and honey and focused on the giants the Anakites, the Jebusites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites. But your eyes were supposed to stay on the milk and honey. Your eyes wasn't supposed to go. Look at the people that's there. Your eyes was on what did I tell you you're going to take? I told y'all this is y'all land. If this is your land, why are you focusing on who's there? This is your land. You got to look at it and take it for what. It is your land. But you took your eyes off of the promise, because God is not a man that he should lie, nor the son of man right. Whatever God says is yours, it's yours, it's yours, yeah.

Speaker 2:

It's yours, and I think that sometimes, even when the situation doesn't look good for you or doesn't look good, god has a way of bringing the thing back full circle.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

But where is your faith? And right now y'all I'm about to cry because I'm talking to me while I'm saying this, Because the Lord showed me something many years ago and every single day it's like he's sending people to reiterate to me what he's shown me. And now it's like, okay, I'm going to stay out of your business and I'm going to have faith and know it's not going to look like how everybody wants it to look, but when I reveal it to you, you will understand what I was doing from the beginning. All right, brother, Nick, continue.

Speaker 1:

Thank you for sharing that. Thank you so much, cause, like hey, we're going all in with this, this reporting, and I tell you what. We heard the negative parts and we heard the positive parts. And I would say this although they went to go see, not every leader could see that part, every leader did not have 20-20. And I'm not talking about physically Physical.

Speaker 1:

They didn't have the spiritual 20-20 vision. Yeah, they didn't look beyond the physical. They should have looked beyond the physical and tapped into what you said earlier, adni. Yeah, that they should have tapped into the spiritual.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

That's why Khalif Caleb have this reputation that he has now, because, as y'all heard when Adni read it Numbers 13, verse 30, despite all this bad reporting, it was who spoke up.

Speaker 2:

Who spoke up? He says but the word says but Kalev, but Kalev, that transition, yeah, y'all talking all that mess, but here comes Kalev with the quiet. Yep, yep, he said, khalid with the quiet, yep, yep. He said quiet.

Speaker 1:

It was Caleb Yep. He said Caleb spoke up. He quieted the people. Caleb speaks up, uh-huh, quieted the people. Read it in your version.

Speaker 2:

Ad you read it. It says but Khalid quieted the people before Moses and said let us go up once, not later, not tomorrow. Once they go now, let us go up at once and possess it, for we are well able to overcome it.

Speaker 1:

He got it, he gets it.

Speaker 2:

He ain't say let's go later.

Speaker 2:

He ain't say next year, he ain't say next month. He said now let's, like Caleb said, let's roll, let's roll out, bro, let's roll out and go do this. And this is the powerful part to me. He said we are, we are well able to overcome it. What did he see in the people that they didn't see in themselves? What did he see in them that they didn't see in themselves? Because he said we are well, he.

Speaker 2:

He didn't leave them out, even with their bad report. He did not leave them out. He said we are well able to overcome it. There are times that you're going to be going through something and then God will send that one person to you to minister to you and let you know you will overcome this. And we won't do it together, not by yourself, because you have to have that one person in your crew that that sees God differently than you, because sometimes, when we're going through stuff, we only see the stuff, but there's that person with the spiritual eyes that say, hey, I see what you see, but let me give it to you differently.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yes.

Speaker 2:

We will overcome this. You're battling cancer. Hey, I know the doctor said that you have six months, but let's lean on the God who? Healed a woman who was bleeding for 12 years. Hey, let's lean on the God who delivered us from Egypt 430 years. He delivered us. Oh. Let's lean on the God who opened the eyes of a blind man Yep. Let's lean on the God who called out legion in one man, legions of demons in one person. He called them out. We need that person in our circle.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

Because when we only see the physical, that person says hold up, we will overcome. He's not speaking past tense, he's speaking in the present. He's speaking in the present. He said we are well, we are well, able to overcome it, that's present tense yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2:

That's present tense, so I think sometimes I don't. Let me just speak for me. That's the only way I could explain it. There are times my faith is up here, and then there are times my faith is down here. But I know there's a person right here who says Adney, I know your faith, that your faith is down here, I'm gonna have faith for you. I'm gonna have faith for you. I'm gonna have faith for you because, as that person has faith for you, guess what they're doing? They're bringing you up. You need that person and that was khalif for those people, because all them other 12 spies, all them other 12 spies was tripping. I mean sorry, the other 10 spies, they was tripping you could go ahead and edit that part.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they yeah, the 10 spies. They was tripping because all they saw was physical. They saw, they saw they saw giants. They saw giants. Khalif saw nah, here's the kicker. He didn't even mention the giants. He didn't even mention the giants, he didn't see them. All he saw was the land flowing with milk and honey. Think about that. They're describing the giants. He said let us go up at once to possess it, for we are well able to overcome it. He didn't say nothing about fighting them giants. He said let us go up at once.

Speaker 1:

Man, andy, I'm going to tell you something, man, I'm going to tell you something you know, because what we're talking about is very important. I know this is an actual, true story what happened? But you got to ask yourself and this is why Caleb had this reputation and this is why you got to ask yourself Caleb is quieting the people. There was an uproar, there was some noise, there was some fear. Why are you quieting the people? Like, what's going on in the atmosphere? What kind of news that these leaders brought to these people that terrified the people, that I believe that there was an up war. Why?

Speaker 1:

Caleb like hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. It's kind of like when Jesus Christ was in a ship and there was a storm they are, the disciples went all crazy. Jesus didn't care, he don't die, here's Jesus Christ, he's just chilling. So Caleb had that same spirit. While there, people were like bringing all this bad news, kind of like when Jesus Christ was in the ship. Jesus Christ was like come on, man, jesus is in the ship. All Jesus needs to do is wake up and just say Storm, be still, sit still. And they obey right. So Caleb is having that same spirit hey, come on, man, come on, like you said, andy, you need that Caleb in your life. When folks start complaining, when folks start bringing you bad report, like how you was just naming it, you need that Khalif in your life. That's going to be like, come on, man, just chill. Do you know the kind of God that you serve? Because you know sometimes Christians need to be reminded.

Speaker 2:

Adney, not all, because you know, you got the weak and the strong Because you know every Christian is different.

Speaker 1:

You know, sometimes you know you have folks that are going through stuff and it says he, that is spiritual, restore such a one, because the one that need to be restored is the one that's broken.

Speaker 1:

Something has been broken and you need that spiritual person, and Caleb is the epitome. Is that spiritual individual who had spiritual vision to say like I know what y'all seen, because we were all. How could it be? 12 individuals in one place but everybody seen different things? How is it? We're reading the same Bible. We're reading the Gospels about Jesus, matthew, mark, luke and John. Have you not heard that he came here? This is not a fairy tale. He was actually here on earth. He came and he died, he was buried and he was resurrected For us.

Speaker 1:

Are you trying to tell me you don't believe how I have so much faith and your faith is so little? What has God done for you? Have you forgot what he's done for you? The best thing he did for you was save you. Have you taken that for granted? Is it just a mere checklist? And we have that checklist too. Addy Folks, just go to church. Oh, yeah, I went to church today. Check, I took communion today. Check, I read my verse today. Check, I did my five-second prayer. Maybe 10-second prayer. Check, oh, I. Five second prayer. Maybe 10 second prayer. Check, oh, I'm good with God. You mean to tell me, are we serving the same God?

Speaker 2:

That and that's the important part. It's, it's the, it's the Stop putting God on your little checklist type mentality, because for them it was okay. Yeah, I saw him do that, but right, I saw him do that, but we still got to. That's Egypt. But we, looking at the Jebusites, the Canaanites, that's Egypt. Egypt is more powerful than all of them. They feared Egypt. All of those Jebusites, canaanites, perizzites, all of them, they feared Egypt and God, oh, thank you, holy Spirit, god defeated Egypt. God defeated Egypt. So those people already know who y'all are, they know who's fighting for you. But do you know who's fighting for you? When your enemy knows your God better than you? Problem, that is a whole problem. When your enemy knows that your god is fighting for you and you don't even realize that your god is fighting for you.

Speaker 1:

That's a problem. That's a problem.

Speaker 2:

that's a problem. It's like when I was in school, my, my sister, my sister, my sister was a thug. Okay, everybody knew my sister, right. When I went to school, all I had to say was my last name and who my sister was.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And everybody was like such and such is your sister, guess what? They ain't bothering me. And if they did bother me, my sister be like, don't worry, I'll be out there. I'll be out there. Tomorrow I'm going to school with you. When they see her walking with me, they like, oh, we better leave her alone. We better leave her alone. We better leave her alone.

Speaker 2:

Let's look at the children of Israel. God defeats the gods of Egypt. Oh, not only does he defeat the gods of Egypt, he defeats the leaders of Egypt. The leaders of Egypt because their gods are spiritual. Not only does he defeat the spiritual, he also defeats the physical, the one you could see, the one that had all the mouth. Who's your God, right? He defeats them.

Speaker 2:

And the people in Canaan land? They notice you and you bring in what report? You scared of what now? You scared of who? Now come on man. And that's why I said there are times that our enemies, they look, look at us and they be like she should not be in this position or in this state. But they see our God better than we see our own God. And that's the problem. Because we open our mouths, we have all these big mouths. Oh, praise the Lord, hallelujah, I'm blessed and highly favored and I'm this and I'm that, but your enemy sees your God better than you Because all blessed and I'm highly favored and I'm this and I'm that, but your enemy sees your God better than you because all you have is this you only have mouth, no action.

Speaker 1:

Mercy. Hey, sister Addie, I know we got to wrap things up because I know you got to leave pretty soon, but let me say this, let me say this and this is why Caleb and Kalev has this reputation, and this is why we wanted to highlight him, although we talked about the spies, but the main individual we really wanted to highlight was Caleb, because he did what he did y'all. Caleb was able to remain alive in the wilderness and live to see the promised land. So that's in Numbers, 1438. Caleb also conquered Hebron at the age of 85.

Speaker 1:

So in this day and age, we'll say that's a senior, that's an elderly man. He belonged in a nursery home, but Caleb conquered Hebron at the age of 85. So not only that, he conquered, he was blessed with the land of Hebron. So Caleb was an individual that followed God wholeheartedly. He really, really, really loved the Lord. And also, lastly, the most important piece all of them is important, y'all but he also conquered the sons of Anak and Addie. I want you to close out with that and Joshua 15, 14, because the very same thing that these people was concerned about, caleb backed it up, because it's easy for us, but we know it's not Caleb doing it. It's really God doing it and God gave him credit. Ain't that something? The Bible says that Caleb conquered the sons of anech. Yes, he conquered it, but it was god who did it, but gave him the credit. Let me tell you something.

Speaker 2:

Go ahead, addy, go ahead, go ahead, go ahead I know you want me to read 14, but I can't just I gotta start from six all the way down.

Speaker 1:

I know I got the Bible study going on but I have to, all right, read six all the way down and then we're going to close. Go ahead, okay.

Speaker 2:

It says. Then the children of Judah approached Joshua and Gilgal and Kalev, the son of Jephunneh. The Kenizzite said to him you know the word that Jehovah spoke to Moses, the man of God, concerning me and concerning you, in Kadesh Barnea. I was 40 years old when Moses, the servant of Jehovah, sent me out of Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I returned with such a word to him as was genuinely upon my heart, genuinely upon my heart. However, my brothers who went up with me made the people's heart melt, but I fully followed Jehovah, my God, and Moses swore on that day, saying surely the land on which your foot has trodden will be an inheritance to you and your children forever, for you have fully followed. Jehovah has kept me alive, as he said word to Moses while Israel walked through the wilderness.

Speaker 2:

And now look, today, I am 85 years old. Today, I am still as strong as I was on the day Moses sent me out, as my strength was then. So my strength is now for battle and for going out and coming in Now, therefore, and for going out and coming in Now, therefore, give me this hill country of which Jehovah spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that the Anakim were there with great fortified cities. I'm sorry. I'm getting happy, yet may it be that Jehovah will be with me and I will dispossess them, as Jehovah has said. So, joshua blessed him and gave him Hebron I'm sorry and gave Hebron to Kalev, the son of Jephunneh, as an inheritance. Therefore, hebron became the inheritance of Kalev, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite.

Speaker 1:

Wow, now read 15, 14.

Speaker 2:

Joshua 15, 14. Joshua 15, 14 says and Khalif drove out the three sons of Anak from there, sushai, hanayim and Telmai, the children of Anak.

Speaker 1:

Wow.

Speaker 2:

Now you can't tell me our God don't fight for us today. If he could do it for Khalif, he could do it for us, and I dropped the mic.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, this episode definitely, was definitely a blessing, like you mean the spirit of Caleb need to dwell in us, to trust in God wholeheartedly, to serve God wholeheartedly. Like his faith had to have been on another level. Yeah, he even said like, hey, I'm going to go among these people and God is going to be with me. That's why I said that it was God that was with them and he really believed that. Yeah, so god was fighting to fight for him and that's why I said god was fighting to fight for him. Yeah, and god said you know what? I'm gonna give you the credit yeah but god did it.

Speaker 1:

Oh, mercy. You see, you see how, how you know, you know I always say that, humanity, we're selfish. Yeah, you see how, how you know, you know I always say that, humanity, we're selfish. Yeah, you see how God is selfless. Everything else belongs to him and he's, he's, he's willing to give it to us, like, hey, yeah, yeah, I'm. I want y'all to to be just like me, selfless. Yeah, yeah, he conquered the enemy. He gave them credit.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, conquered the enemy. He gave them credit. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Why? Because of Caleb's faith. Yeah, because all the other leaders, the 10 leaders, had the people in disarray.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And there are leaders like that that will bring bad news to the people when where, on the other hand, you have leaders like Brother Daniels that say, hey, man, we got to have faith.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

We got to have faith. Let's just trust in God. Yeah, it looks ugly right now. Yeah, but I know the type of God that I serve. Yeah, the same God yesterday, today and forevermore life. Yeah, he could do all things but fail yeah, so that's how I want to end it. And he could do all things but fail yeah, so that's how I want to end it, and this episode definitely was a blessing and I hope, trust and pray that it bless you as much as it bless Adney and I.

Speaker 1:

You see, we just went on a run. You know, sunday, y'all, it's Sunday. I was filled, adney filled. Adney was going in.

Speaker 1:

It is discussions like this that makes the reason why we do what we do. So until then, y'all you know, we're wrapping it up, but remember that jesus christ, he loves you. He loves you. If you haven't obeyed the gospel, all you need to do is hear, believe, repent and you need to confess and be baptized for the remission of your sins and type into Google and find the local church of Christ. Find the local church of Christ.

Speaker 1:

But it's not only about that, but it's also about building a relationship, y'all with Jesus Christ, because anybody could do what I just said. But it's about building a relationship. If you don't know how to do that, you're being in denial, because I know at some point you had to love somebody or like somebody or lust after somebody. But we're talking about a relationship, an agape love that God wants to have with you. He got his arms open and you're constantly running away from him. God wants to establish that relationship and we know our relationship was shattered. It was broken from the foundations of this world and this is why Jesus Christ came back so he can bring us back together in a sweet communion with God, the father, and our Lord and our savior, jesus Christ. So it's a wrap. It's a wrap. Remember that Jesus Christ, he is the king of kings and he is the Lord of Lords until then, be blessed.
