So, when I first"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":263.28,"endTime":270.48,"body":"started posting on Instagram, I"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":270.87,"endTime":274.23,"body":"referred to myself as the big"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":270.87,"endTime":274.23,"body":"law dropout. And that term"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":274.23,"endTime":279.57,"body":"actually came from a poem that I"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":274.23,"endTime":279.57,"body":"wrote shortly after I left"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":279.6,"endTime":284.16,"body":"BigLaw. So to take a step  back."},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":279.6,"endTime":284.16,"body":"I used to work in the music"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":284.16,"endTime":288.15,"body":"business before my legal career."},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":284.16,"endTime":288.15,"body":"And I was always creative always"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":288.15,"endTime":292.83,"body":"writing writing songs writing"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":288.15,"endTime":292.83,"body":"magazine articles, writing raps,"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":292.86,"endTime":296.49,"body":"you know, I mean performing on"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":292.86,"endTime":296.49,"body":"stages, so creativity was very"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":296.49,"endTime":302.7,"body":"much a part of me  but in my 11"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":296.49,"endTime":302.7,"body":"years in BigLaw, I didn't"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":302.7,"endTime":306.48,"body":"realise it so much at the time."},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":302.7,"endTime":306.48,"body":"But as I left, I began to"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":306.48,"endTime":310.32,"body":"realise that lost parts of me"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":306.48,"endTime":310.32,"body":"had been sort of suppressed or"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":310.32,"endTime":316.53,"body":"kept down during my time in an"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":310.32,"endTime":316.53,"body":"attempt to fit the mould of kind"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":316.53,"endTime":320.43,"body":"of what was expected of being a"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":316.53,"endTime":320.43,"body":"lawyer in BigLaw, if you want to"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":320.43,"endTime":322.65,"body":"progress, you've kind of got to"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":320.43,"endTime":322.65,"body":"play the game, this was the"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":322.65,"endTime":325.35,"body":"message that was kind of put"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":322.65,"endTime":325.35,"body":"across to me, there's certain"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":325.35,"endTime":329.46,"body":"ways that you, you have to, you"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":325.35,"endTime":329.46,"body":"have to conduct yourself. I"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":329.46,"endTime":333.09,"body":"mean, for example, I was, I was"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":329.46,"endTime":333.09,"body":"told once that the way that I"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":333.09,"endTime":335.94,"body":"dressed was a bit too"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":333.09,"endTime":335.94,"body":"fashionable. And I might want to"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":335.94,"endTime":340.71,"body":"tone it down if I wanted to be"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":335.94,"endTime":340.71,"body":"taken seriously. So that just"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":341.25,"endTime":344.49,"body":"just gives you a sort of sense"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":341.25,"endTime":344.49,"body":"of some of the some of the"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":344.49,"endTime":347.91,"body":"things that were said and some"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":344.49,"endTime":347.91,"body":"of the some of the ways that"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":347.91,"endTime":352.44,"body":"people expected you to show up"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":347.91,"endTime":352.44,"body":"and to behave. So it's no"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":352.44,"endTime":355.71,"body":"surprise that when you're in"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":352.44,"endTime":355.71,"body":"that culture for long enough,"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":355.71,"endTime":358.8,"body":"and when you feel that this is"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":355.71,"endTime":358.8,"body":"where you're you have to be this"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":358.8,"endTime":362.49,"body":"is what you should be doing that"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":358.8,"endTime":362.49,"body":"you start to try to do what you"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":362.49,"endTime":366.63,"body":"can to fit into that"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":362.49,"endTime":366.63,"body":"environment. And as much as I"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":366.63,"endTime":370.71,"body":"would resist, I can definitely"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":366.63,"endTime":370.71,"body":"see looking back that there were"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":370.71,"endTime":374.22,"body":"parts where I kind of just let"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":370.71,"endTime":374.22,"body":"let certain certain things that"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":374.22,"endTime":377.16,"body":"I was into, or certain ways that"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":374.22,"endTime":377.16,"body":"I will show up, just just"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":377.16,"endTime":380.88,"body":"disappear, just get suppressed."},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":377.16,"endTime":380.88,"body":"And that's a long winded way of"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":380.88,"endTime":384.81,"body":"saying that creativity was one"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":380.88,"endTime":384.81,"body":"of them. And so actually, when I"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":384.81,"endTime":389.13,"body":"left, this whole creativity"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":384.81,"endTime":389.13,"body":"volcano that was inside of me"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":389.13,"endTime":392.64,"body":"started to erupt. And I couldn't"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":389.13,"endTime":392.64,"body":"stop writing, I was writing"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":392.64,"endTime":397.32,"body":"articles on medium. And I was"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":392.64,"endTime":397.32,"body":"also writing poems as well. And"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":397.68,"endTime":403.47,"body":"I wrote this poem about my time"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":397.68,"endTime":403.47,"body":"in BigLaw. And obviously, you"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":403.47,"endTime":407.37,"body":"can't condense an 11 year career"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":403.47,"endTime":407.37,"body":"into a two minute poem. But it"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":407.37,"endTime":411.15,"body":"definitely hits on certain"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":407.37,"endTime":411.15,"body":"aspects of things that I had"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":411.18,"endTime":417.21,"body":"seen, and I had experienced. And"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":411.18,"endTime":417.21,"body":"that poem became titled The"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":417.21,"endTime":422.01,"body":"Rhyme of the BigLaw dropout. And"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":417.21,"endTime":422.01,"body":"I don't really know where that"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":422.01,"endTime":425.37,"body":"came from, it's just like this"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":422.01,"endTime":425.37,"body":"flash of inspiration. But it's a"},{"speaker":"Ryan Spence","startTime":425.37,"endTime":431.07,"body":"term that stuck.
