Show Notes

Universal Voices is back with an all new A Heart For mini-series. In this third of six new episodes, Alissa welcomes Shannon Wimp Schmidt. Shannon is a Parish Vitality Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Chicago, co-host of Plaid Skirts and Basic Black Podcast, and author of the book Fat Luther, Slim Pickin’s (Ave Maria Press, 2022). She lives in Chicagoland with her husband, Eric, and their four children.

This episode is packed with all sorts of gems as Alissa and Shannon tackle everything from Shannon's heart for women in the Church, to what happens to the Church in America in 50 years if things stay exactly as they are now, to the importance of the Lay Church.  The two also venture into:

  • The cultural shift of the American Church
  • How  culture can enliven our Gospel witness
  • Women's wisdom in decision making
  • Removing barriers to Jesus
  • How ritual helps us NOT skip the hard parts of faith
  • What happens to the Church when one person leaves
  • God calling us before we even become us.
  • Being a lay Church who is not distracted

Make sure to follow Shannon on Instagram and Twitter. You can find her @teamquarterblack in both places. And don't forget to grab a copy of the book she co-authored and listen in to Plaid Skirts and Basic Black.
