In today's meditation we explore how color affects our brains and in what way might specific color be used to help provide us with inner stability, calm and increased confidence. 

Best Self Meditation for Meditate for Life Episode 4 
Hello! Welcome. I'm Charlene your host here on Meditate for Life. 

Today we'll be moving into colour meditations with specific purposes. Does color affect us? You bet it does. 

From the paint on your walls to the light outside your window color inspires, uplifts or pulls us inward. More, when we imagine color, we have the same neurological effect as if we looked at or bathed in those colors in the physical world. 

True! The neuroscience for this is easily accessed in my book The Healing Power of Mind: Medicine Buddha Medicine Mind. But now, let's pay attention to color for a particular reason. Let's see if we can play with color to help us become more steadfast, more confident, more aware of our best selves. 

First, prepare for meditation as before. Gather your notebook, a pen, or pencil and sit or stand or lie in a comfortable position. Allow your mind to rest gently on the top of your breath. If this doesn't really make sense just go along with the idea. It took me many years before I felt my awareness move toward the top of my breath. 

Now let your breath do whatever it is your breath wants to do: inhale, exhale, take a deeper breath, take less breath. Just follow. And find your feet. 

This one secret in meditation and in life will take you a long way toward being grounded and maintaining calm in life. Breathe and focus on your feet. Focusing on your feet instantly allows your awareness to open up to all parts of your body. 

Really. Try focusing on your feet right now. 

Next just come slowly up your body through the different parts. If you don't get all the parts or you miss some, no problem. No way can you do this wrong, except by missing out and not doing it at all! 

Now we'll just sit for five minutes. Let's start now. 

Come back to the room you are in. Feel your body. Notice your breath and center in your heart for a moment. Notice if you feel any different from when you began, from before you meditated. 

Now, we'll do this again for five minutes but this time I'll suggest something you to paint in your mind. Find your feet. Go to the soles of your feet. 

Now imagine another you attached at the soles of your feet. This you is an exact embodiment of you in your best self. Color this image in with Peach Colored light. Let me go through this one more time. 

Find your feet and focus on the soles of your feet. Now imagine an exact replica of you but embodying all the best aspects, the parts you try to accomplish. Feel this as true. Fill in the replica with the color peach. Now we sit for five minutes. Let's start now. 

Come back to the room you are in. Notice your breath and feel into your body. Stretch your fingers, wiggle your toes, squinch your face to wake yourself up. 

This Peach Best Self meditation was given to a group of people by my meditation teacher many years ago. I have used it for therapeutic purposes, to help people gain a sense of confidence in their ability to manifest their best self. 

What we imagine stokes the neural pathways of our brains. When we imagine failure or struggle our pathways light up in accordance. This doesn't mean stop thinking about those things! 

That is nearly if not totally impossible. Your brain will keep going on and on and sometimes will take a deep dive into fear, insecurity, aversion, anger and more. After all these qualities so the pundits tell us, helped us get through the earliest years of our time on this planet. 

It takes conscious focus and some determination to try and try again to use the pathways of our brains that allow us to feel secure, to let go and really relax. 

But the truth, now scientifically proven, is we have the power to think ourselves into feeling better and doing better. And with the addition of a peach-colored image of yourself already manifesting exactly what you want to manifest, your brain pathways are busily creating 
a more fulfilling life for you.
