Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder

The Last Spiritual Dice Role S5e8 Acts1:26

Michael Smith Season 5 Episode 8

The disciples need a 12th guy.  They know that the Lord knows who it is.  Their problem is how do THEY get the message all the way from heaven to the room they are in. How do they do it?  You'll never guess.  It is DICE.  Spiritual Dice.  They rolled lots.  You just can't not enjoy the Bible.

They believe the prophesy of David from a thousand years before, "Let another take his office", in referring to Judas. Of note, for 2000 years, since Moses, these spiritual dice have been a crude way of answering some very important questions: "How do we find out your will Lord? What would you have us do? What would please you in this situation?" Moses even charged the Levites with being specialists in this area of discernment.  We ask similar questions today.  Why don't we use dice any more?  Stay tuned, we will be learning about the relationship and benefits of the Holy Spirit all through this book.

And Matthias.  He gets selected.  Dear Matthias.  Literally, his name is going to be inscribed on the foundation in heaven.  He is faithful to the end.  He helps establish the church.  He is a spiritual hero of world-class proportion.  He's the decision ever made in the Christian Church by using spiritual dice.  Say his name:  Matthias.  Save a spot on your lunch calendar in heaven for this guy.  Share his name and this podcast.  Subscribe at bewithme.us .  Listen again tomorrow if we are both still here.

Michael Smith:

Good morning, my brothers and sisters, welcome to episode eight of Season Five of be with me. Yesterday we talked about why there were 12 disciples originally and let's just quickly answer that question that is because Jesus said so. And then Judas happened and why were there 11 disciples after the Last Supper because Judas said so. And then we get to the book of Acts, and now we're going to find out why were there 12 disciples after the ascension. And that is because David said, so 1000 years before Jesus, and of course, the Holy Spirit who was working and writing through David. And then we find that these 11 guys and the 120 people that they lead, in the early church, their people have the book, they look at the Bible, they refer to it. They know it, they quote it, they find it authoritative, they believe in it, and they trust it. And then here today, we see, well, okay, those are all fine and good, theoretically, how do they actually obey it? So they're obeying the scriptures? And how do we get another to take his office? Because that was the prophecy from Psalm one a nine. And you're never going to guess the answer. After the new disciples decide to pick the new the new apostle and disciple of Jesus, how do they pick him? They rolled dice, that gives new meaning to the to the term holy rollers. So I think the title of this is going to be the last spiritual roll of dice and we'll see why here in a second. Okay, let me read it to you. It's in Acts, chapter one. They're saying about Judas, he's going to die in his guts are going to be spilled and let another take his office. So one of the men who are accompanying us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of john until the day when he was taken up from us, one of these men must become with us, a witness to His resurrection. And they put forward to Joseph called burse sabas, who was also called justice. So the guy has three names Joseph Barr, SAVVIS of justice, and the other individual is Matthias. And they prayed and said, Lord, you, you, Lord, who know the hearts of all show us which one of these two, you have chosen to take the place in this ministry, and apostleship, from which Judas turned decide to go to his own place. And here it is, and they cast lots for them. And the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the 11. disciples, love an apostle apostles, excuse me. So there's this job, okay, there's a job there's, they're posting a needed job. And that is, they want someone to be a witness to the resurrection of Jesus, and someone to share in the ministry, and the qualifications for the job as they had to be with with Jesus from the baptism of john, essentially, from the beginning of his ministry until the resurrection, and two names are put forward one, Joseph basarab is justice. That's one guy. The second guy is Matthias, confusingly, there's already a guy in the remaining 11, whose name is Matthew, and they pray. So this is good. So you like what they're doing? They claim certain characteristics of the Lord, which are true, this is always a good principle, and prayer, Lord, You are and here's what they say about the Lord, your Lord, you know, the hearts of all. And then they asked what they're asking for is, we think that you've chosen one and you Schumer's, please show us, humbly they say this show us which one you have to chosen. So let's talk about this office that they're electing into. It's a full time position. There's no retirement, there's no steady pay, you're probably going to get beaten in prison threatened shipwrecked, maybe it's certainly going to end in your death. There'll be opposition all the way along, you'll probably be cold, and you'll and you're going to be hungry. So why in the world would you want this job? Why? Why would Matthias and Joseph or Savvas justice want this job? Well, you get the Lord, You are my portion. What's the real payment, it's a relationship with the Lord, I will be with you. I will walk you through it. There's another one long term benefit in the retirement plan that is you name gets in strike, inscribed on the In the walls of permanent Heaven, which is pretty cool. But basically, it's a crazy job, and nobody would want it absent the presence of the Lord. So what is this deal about rolling dice, we have to talk about that because this is the last time it's ever going to happen. Because the Holy Spirit is going to do this. Eventually. It reminds me of a passage in Deuteronomy 33 eight where the Moses is on the way out, the Lord has told him, he's going to die. And he blesses the people of Israel. And he goes tribe by tribe on who gets to leave, it says, to leave by your thumb and thumb in and to end your urine to your godly one. What he's saying is give to leave I, the people have lived by the tribal leave, I give them your thumb and your your M, which were Old Testament dice that they used does to discern. So what Moses is saying is, give them your wisdom, give them your discernment, give them your will show them what your will help them to, to go into the right direction, help them with your guidance, help them with your presence here. And the interesting thing about this moment in time that we're here in the book of Acts is this is the last time that this is ever going to happen again, they've used 2000 years of somewhat using these dice the spiritual dice, to discern the will of God. And that's going to be totally discarded. Why? Because the Holy Spirit is coming. And that is we need your direction, and your purpose and your clarity. And those are the things that this Holy Spirit is going to enact. Clearly, they need a better system than rolling dice a minute to seem so crude and ancient and unsophisticated. And it affects everything. It even affects the decorations in heaven. Because these guys names. This is from Revelation 2221, verse 14, and the wall of the cities is talking about the heavenly Jerusalem had 12 foundations, and on them were the 12 names of the 12 apostles of the lamp. So Matthias, let's say his name, Matthias, his name is going to be decoration in heaven. That's kind of the reward that this guy gets. So let's appreciate this guy Mathias. He was sort of an unknown to my heart, but he's not. And so this is how Jesus is going to complete the picture of working with the 12 tribes in the Old Testament. Now he's going to work with the 12 disciples in the New Testament and build his church, and we get introduced to a guy we've never heard of before, at least to my knowledge, and that is Matthias let's say his name today Matthias thanks for listening. No more dice.
