He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

A doctor looks at crucifixion S28e151 Jn19:17
Join me for an unpleasant look at the process of crucifixion. It was meant to be horrible and it certainly was. It successfully achieved its goals of being agonizing, public, prolonged and humiliating.
All of this suffering is known as the PASSION OF THE CHRIST. But do not forget of another kind of Jesus' passion: His love for you. Only then can the official "passion of the Christ" make complete sense.

A doctor looks at crucifixion S28e151 Jn19:17
Let’s look at crucifixion today. What is it? How does a person die?
Purpose was to publically punish and then execute the condemned.
It was the means of an agonizing execution
It was meant to be public
It was meant to be prolonged
It was meant to disgrace and humiliate the
The romans were not the first culture to adopt this. It was practiced by the Medes, Persians, Greek.
The romans adopted it for NON citizens, slaves and aliens only, because it was too nasty
So they took Jesus, 17 and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. 19 Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” 20 Many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek. 21 So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but rather, ‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.’ ” 22 Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.”
We’ve spent some time on Pilate who now pronounes Jesus as King of the Jewswithout making Him King of himself. He does, however, stick His thumb in the eye of the Jewish officials by Titleing Him in the local language, the World empire language, and the previous world empire language.
What happens during a crucifixion?
The person is nailed through the wrists. The ligaments of the hand can not support the bodyweight, but the compact, strong ligaments of the bones in the wrist can. The ligamentous injury alone would be very painful. Could not help but to either transect or displace the median nerve. This alone would be unbearable. The Central placement of the nail would not cause significant blood loss from the wrists.
The person is nailed through the feet. The push and pull of the feet adds to the agony. Jesus had no bones broken, but a large nail blasting through nearby would fire the periosteum—one of the most sensitive structures in the body—to scream constantly.
How do you breathe?
Jesus suffered from near asphixiaiton and air hunger for the whole process. We see evidence of this by the few words spoken, and the length of the sentances. We’ll see this later by His brief reference to the rather long Psalm 22. He refers to it rather than quoting it.
.Jesus INHALED by hanging down. The bodyweight hanging by the arms, forces the chest to expand, allowing inhalation. To breathe, to EXHALE, the person would have to “Stand Up” on His feet This would take some of the pressure off the arms and chest cavity, allowing exhalation.
Remember, Jesus had recently been scouraged which accelerates the death process. His back, buttocks and legs would have been lacerated, exposed, and bleeding. He was already beaten and sliced to near death. He could not carry the cross, or part of the cross without falling and without help from Simon of Cyren. To breathe, Jesus had to scrape open His back wounds with every breath. So there would be severe bloodloss from His back muscles as He struggled to breathe. He had severe pain. He had asphyxiation. Dr. Truman davis summarizesJesus experienced hours of limitless pain, cycles of twisting, joint-rending cramps, intermittent partial asphyxiation, searing pain where tissueis torn from His lacerated back as He moves up and down against the rough timber. Then another agony begins -- a terrible crushing pain deep in the chest as the pericardium slowly fills with serumand begins to compress the heart. One remembers again the 22nd Psalm, the 14th verse: “I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax.” Jesus cries out: “I thirst”
Asphixiation. Blood loss. Dehydration. Organ. Failure. Heart failure. All could be formal cause of death. Excuisite torture.
Conclusions: Shocking and horrible
Your sins, and mine cost a lot of suffering.
No one ever endured it willfully except Jesus.
No one stayed on the cross when they could get off the cross
At any point, Jesus could have stopped the torture.
This is all what is termed: THE PASSION of CHRISt. It is of course his suffering, which He willingly did for the love of you.
the “passion of christ” come from His Passion for you
