Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

Today you will be with me in paradise. SAVING
Woman behold your son. Behold your mother CARING
My God, why have you forsaken me? REFERENCING
It is finished Jn 19:30 ACCOMPLISHING
I thirst Jn19:28 SUFFERING
Jn19: 28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Ps 22: 15 my strength is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death.
Ps 69: 21 They gave me poison for food,
and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.
Jesus accepts some liquid to fix the dry mouth problem
Jesus accepts the liquid not to prolong His life, or decrease suf but to announce His final statements: Victory, intimacy, triumph of Ps 22
It is done. It is finished. I (Jesus have done it)
Jesus wets His whistle to announce the greatest accomplishment in world history
I have come to save. I have paid the penalty to all who receive
It is done. It is finished. Mission accomplished
Into your hands I commit my spirit. Lk23:46 Ps31:5 ENTRUSTING
44 It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.
He does so Voluntarily
Jn 10: 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
At the arrest Matt26: 53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels
At any moment of the suffering and crucifiction process, Jesus could Petition the Father, and He would have AT ONCE sent 12 legions to stop the arrest, mock, suff, or crucif.
Jesus ENTRUSTS Himself into Your hands
Puts Himself in the care of, gives over to Father, Arranges Himself specifically in a location. “I’m with you” votes with the feet of His intention to place Himself into the care, hands of the Father
Nuclear Power Plant of 1 Peter 2: 22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Jesus continued entrusting Himself-not His first moment of entrusting.Jesus lays down His life voluntarily. Even willfully.
He’s gone through great trouble to be here on the cross.
He’s PURPOSED to be there from the garden of Eden and probably even before that.
What / where/ Who does Jesus COMMIT Himself?
Into the hands of the Father
How does He commit Himself? LOUDLY. Perhaps with last breath?
Father forgive them for they know not what they do FORVING
Today you will be with me in paradise. SAVING
Woman behold your son. Behold your mother CARING
My God, why have you forsaken me? REFERENCING
It is finished Jn 19:30 ACCOMPLISHING
I thirst Jn19:28 SUFFERING
Into your hands I commit my spirit. Lk23:46 Ps31:5 ENTRUSTING
Who are you entrusting yourself to?
Oh brothers and sisters. Trust Jesus today. Trust the Father and Spirit. ReceiveHim so He can receive you into His Kingdom
When are you entrusting yourself?
Today, now, or Are you waiting for a day of crisis?
On Jesus’ critical day He CONTINUED entrusting. Nothing new here. Committing Himself to the father…AGAIN. Continuously.
Do you agree this is the greatest act in world history?
If not, can you name another?
Makes what is impossible for you possible. Access. Forgiveness. Clean slate.
Jesus died for a reason. Reason is you. Killing Jesus for you.
