Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder
Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’

The Women at the Cross S28e156 Jn19:25
Join me as we admire the women at the cross, especially Mary Magdalene.
Why? Because she was there. She showed up. She ministered. She was faithful. She was generous. She was thankful. She was FOUND WITH Him before, during, and after the crucifixion.
Let's be like the women at the cross. They are wonderful examples for us.

The Women at the Cross S28e156 Jn19:25
We have been placing ourselves as witnesses to the Passion of the Christ. This means His final teachings, His arrest, His mockings, beatings, scourging, trials, binding, crucifiction and death.
We affording ourselves the opportunity, the agency, to respond correctly, devotionallyand decisively to the Lord.
We are placing ourselves at the foot of the cross, walking nearby, bearing witness and then considering the implications for ourselves
Yesterday, the centurion is man enough to change his mind
The hardest thing in the world, as he stands before Jesus
A few days ago we similarly saw saving faith from thief
Heard the revolutionary, theologically complete. Treatise on heaven: Today you will be with me in paradise
We are striving to not let this crucifiction go unnoticed
And to not let it ourselves go undecided;unmoved; unchanged
Let’s start with the bad news: How do the guys do? At the arrest in garden, they lay hands on him and seized;after Peter cuts off an ear
Mark14: 50 And they all left him and fled. WHY? BECAUSE THEY WERE IN A SEIZING MOOD. KILLING
51 And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked.
All remaining 11 fled. + Judas =12
One young man follows at a distance and runs away naked.
This possibly/probably is Mark, who doesn’t id himself
Later, we’ll find John back near Jesus at the foot of the cross
Mark 15: 40 There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Marythe mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. 41 When he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him, and there were also many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.
Women at the cross.
Many women came up to Jerusalem from Galilee. 80 mile women
Made the trek all the way to Jerusalem WITH HIM ON WAY
I am travelling in Jesus’ caravan
What were the women doing BEFORE?
Followed Him—listened with their ears, followed w their feet
MINISTERED to Him—used their HANDS to help
To attend, be there. Take care of needs, be at service for, wait upon
They did whatever was necessary, needed, at the practical ready
Luke 8: 8 Soon afterward he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 3 and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.
Disciples and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities
Mary Magdalene,Jn 19: 25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
from whom 7 demons had gone out
I wonder how appreciative that might make you
Not everyone Jesus healed returned but Mary did
Mary returned, provided, followed, went to the end
How far? To Jerusalem. How long? She was found in Him at His end. (Col3:9 our job is to be found in Him at OUR END)
Mary Magdalene was found WITH HIM before during after endI know you aren’t supposed to read ahead, but spoiler alert, Jesus is resurrected on the third day. Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene Mark16:
9 [[Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons.
Why to Mary Mag? Well, she was there. She showed up. She ministered. She was faithful. She was generous. She was thankful. She was frequently FOUND WITH Him. Before, during, and after death.
CONCLUSIONS
The foot of the cross is a great place for both women and men
Everybody should spend a few minutes there
Authors go to great lengths to tell us of the women
They are there
Named element. Faithful during the hard times.
Like the women at the cross:
lets show up there during our consideration of the Passion.
Let’s show up other times. Be found in and with him.
Follow Him practically, daily, listen spiritually.
Support Him, worship Him by supporting His work.
Let’s all be one of the “women at the cross”
Be like Mary Mag. Faithful, generous, thankful, found with.
Could your activity in the church be described as: To attend, be there. Take care of needs, be at service for, wait upon
They did whatever was necessary, needed, at the practical ready
Let’s be like mary mag. To such come the resurrection in a special way.
