Be With Me: 7 Minutes of Biblical Wonder

Lessons from the worst day in history S28e159 Luke 23:39

Michael Smith

Please join me today as a humble podcaster tries to make sense of Good Friday.  We'll try to give some weight to the day by looking at people who felt its weight. Some responded in fear and some with courage. The thief on the cross comes to the conviction of sin, specifically his own.

All roads of Christianity lead thru the suffering, the death, and the cross of Jesus.  Please join me there on this Good Friday.

Lessons from the worst day in history S28e159 Luke 23:39

How does a simple podcaster produce a “good Friday” podcast?

How can the weight of the day be felt? By looking at those who felt its’ weight. In general: All roads of Christianity lead thru the suffering, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus.  Either this stuff is true, or we are totally deceived and most to be pitied.

As we face the reality of good Friday which is the suffering and death of Jesus I think it is helpful to remember those who were there and to appreciate what they learned:

From Pilate:

What we judge Jesus, is ultimately how we are judged.

Pilate sits on the judement seat of HIMSELF.Don’t we all?

And that when we get an immediate notification from heaven that we are sinning, we’d best heed it immediately.

That every day will not be a day of liberty to receive Jesus in faith, BUT TODAY IS

From the mockers as They are telling the King of kings that He is not their king. They are telling the king of the world that He is not the king of THEIR world. Watch my idle, cursing words.

From Barrabas They Chose one who breaks the ten commandments in the stead of the One who WROTE the 10 commandments.

He receives undeserved mercy so that you and I could receive undeserved mercy.

Jesus had to pay an undeserved penalty so that you could get off without penalty.

From Peter: that Eventually, the rooster crows for all of us

Our behavior and faith are seen, and evaluated

though he starts poorly, he ends righteously in REPENTANCE.

From Jos. Aramathea: Take courage and GO

From Nicodemus: that the Spirit helps, the wind blows to help those who come to the cross in repentance and faith.

From the Women at the cross. Mary Mag. Faithfulness ministry

From the Centruion: Don’t let this crucifiction go unnoticed.

What will you do After you look at the cross? Spend some time.

He come to the crucifiction and he changes his mind

From Ps 22, that He is NOT despised. NOT abhorred. Fr.s face was NOT hidden

THIEF on the cross Luke 23: 39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Fear God. How can you not? We are dying here. Noone in history ever “got off a cross successfully”. We are hours from death here.

There is a payment necessary for sin

I am justly the one who should be paying it. It is right for me to pay this penalty. I deserve this. Sin has a consequence.

It is JUST that I am on this cross. I should be on this cross.

I am due this punishment in this world and next41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”

Acknowledge the holiness of God by ack. The sinfulness of me

I am due the punishment of God

I am going to need some help at the judgment seat

When You come into Your heavenly kingdom, Your right judgment seat…REMEMBER ME

Not because I have earned it—for You know I don’t

But because of YOU. NOT: remember me because of my righteousness.

Remember me because I agree with you that I deserve punishment. That sin has a consequence. And…Remember me that my sins may be paid for by your suffering.

As you pay the penalty for the sins of mankind, INCLUDE ME.

Make me a part of this divine substitution.

I want to be a part of what You are doing on the cross: which is: Innocence is substituted for guilty

From the thief: heaven is immediate, and paradise and being with Him

And that it is my sin that I must associate with His suffering

That I deserve the penalty that He innocently bore.

If that is the only thinkg you knew about death it is enough

Thank you for joining me, and all these characters at the cross as we think of the goodness of the Good One on Good friday.
